Titanium and an External SD Card

I use MyBackup Pro and it can store its backups on an external SD card. I've searched but haven't been able to discover if Titanium has this same capability. If a phone needs to be replaced, what good is it to have the backup internally? I know I can perform a copy of the TitaniumBackup folder to my external SD card (or my PC) along with its files, but can it be done automagically as a program option during the backup?
Titanium allows you to change the name of the backup folder, so I went so far as to keep the TitaniumBackup folder name but point the folder location to the SD card (\sdcard\sd). No luck...unless my syntax is wrong.
So, in summary, I want to have the Titanium Backups deposited on my external SD card as part of the normal, one-step backup process. If it can't be done, I wonder why it hasn't been implemented as an option since it seems logical (at least to me ).

Drop the sdcard and use a relative path. I have several directories on my external card. I have a main titanium directory with subdirectories for the roms I load..for example here's my current path:
sd/TitaniumBackup/JH7

Thank you! I just heard back from the developer and was about to post his reply (which equals yours). My backup is now at sd/TitaniumBackup.
For others, here's what you do - assuming you're using an external SD card. In Titanium's preferences change the backup folder name to sd/TitaniumBackup. If you need to exchange your device you can then put your SD card in your new phone and restore the backups contained therein.
Don't forget to delete the existing backups and TitaniumBackup folder that's, by default, internal to your phone. Then create your "portable" backups.

so after you make the change, when you open up and see stats page, backup directory should say: /sdcard/sd/titaniumbackup ?

Yes, plus the first two directory items should read:
Data directory: /data
External storage: /sdcard (ok)

Alternatively, download ROM manager and use it to do a NANDroid backup of all of your data. Titanium is nice but NANDroid back ups will save every single setting where as titanium cannot save widgets etc. If you chose to go the NANDroid backup method to get the backups on your comp, plug it in and mount it as USB storage, open the drive and copy the files in the clockwork recovery backup folder to your comp. I also suggest you name them something that will let you know what the backup is in (I use a simple method: ROMThemeKernelapps, eg: CM7Trin15apps for CyanogenMod 7 with the Trinity 1.5GHz kernel and of course all of my apps).

Titanium backup question

Newly rooted xoom and have free Titanium backup installed and would like to backup to sd card but I cannot find an option to backup to the sd card. It is backing up to /mnt/sdcard/titaniumbackup now.
I cannot find an option to change it to the external sd card.

Create the folder on your sdcard first, then go to the options menu, backup folder...hit detect. It should detect the other folder then. If not you may have to backup a file and move it into the new folder first, then hit detect.

Preferences, Backup Location, change to /sdcard/external/TitaniumBackup
Spaces are not supported.

I emailed TB support and found that I could hit the soft back key on the zoom and it would see all the files instread the few on the screen. I then found the file I would to backup in /mnt/sdcard/external and TB created the backup file there.
The key was finding that I could search for the file using the soft "back" button.

[Q] What's on my SD Card?

I wanted to start this thread because I am having trouble, (and I assume other noobs are as well), understanding what's on my SD Card and how to navigate through it.
I've attached what I see when I open my device and check the internal storage.
My main reasoning for trying to understand all that's on my SD Card is because it's important! And because I'm trying to figure out where all my apps are stored. I recently installed the venom custom ROM, and since then have lost the knowledge of where my .apk files are stored. That's really what I'm after trying to find those files. I've searched every folder but still no dice. I used Titanium Pro to backup all my files but there is nothing located in the Titanium folder.
Can anybody help me identify where my .apk files are located?
I also have a few .apk files I wish to install on my phone. From what I've gathered the way to do this is to add them to where the other .apk files are located and then Fix Permissions. If I cannot locate my .apk files is there another file path I could save it to?
Lastly I have these two files I have not recognized before, BUGSENSE and .profig
What are these files?

So if you're downloading the apks off a website they'll be in the downloads folder if you downloaded then through Google play..they won't be on your sd unless you manually backed up them up through titanium

Right okay, so if I choose to back them up onto the SD card then my .apk file paths should appear? Because as you can see now I have no app folders on my phone (sd card) currently.

I've backed up my phone via titanium still nothing in there is an .apk file.
I'm also interested in keeping my phone clean of useless things (another reason for this thread).

As file explorer. Settings allow up to root allow root. Go up from sd card. System/data folder

If you go to titanium backup location on sd card and open it you will find what you looking for. Its pretty easy to restore backup in titanium app itself.....also a true backup should be done in twrp recovery as it backs up everything (file partitions,kernel,radio,apps) it will save a copy (known as a nandriod backup) on your sd card that you can recover if your rom won't boot or you just need to restore .

Make sure you enable writing to the root folder as well. System apps are in system/app.

[Q] Clockworkmod not restoring backup

Searched all over before making this thread but I couldn't seem to find an answer. Rooted my phone to install PAC-man mod. When I finished I made a backup of my original system with CWM. I flashed PAC-man but I'm havign issues and I wanted to go back but CWM can't seem to restore the backup. I checked, and it's still there but when I try to restore I get:
Couldn't open directory.
No files found.
Any ideas?

Is your backup stored on the phone storage or an external card?

Edit: before you go about following the steps I wrote below there is one other options. If you are using an app to try to restore the backup then this way should work. Manually boot into recovery mode click on backup and restore then restore from SD card and under the file labeled 0 there should be a folder listed as clockworkmod. From there you should be able to restore your backup if that doesn't work then follow the steps that I wrote about moving the file to the external card. Either way in the future I would recommend always backing up to the external card.
Assuming you're coming from a 4.1 build when you install a 4.2 ROM it changes the file structure of the internal drive. This is due to the fact that 4.2 roms support multi user functions. So most likely when you try to restore your backup it's located in a different path then it was originally.probly something like sdcard/0/clockworkmod instead of sdcard/clockworkmod. My advice would be move your back up to the external card manually reboot your phone into recovery and restore your backup from the external card. If you use DUP you have to move the backup and the blob folder. If you used a tar backup, just move the backup. When in recovery mode select restore from external SD card and navigate to the folder you put it in.
From here on out if you do your backups from recovery make sure you back up to the external card. If you use ROM Manager make sure before you do your next backup that you select under the settings panel to use external storage. The newest update of ROM Manager allows you to do so.
One other thing, once you restore your backup and your back to a 4.1 build it's going to look like your internal storage is wiped. It's definitely not use a file manager to browse the internal storage there will be a folder labeled 0. That's all of you data. Open that folder up highlight and cut all of the contents go back to the root of your internal storage(the folder you just came from) and paste it there. It will ask if you want to overwrite certain files just click Yes the only files that will be overwritten are the ones that were just made when you rebooted on the 4.1 system you will not lose anything.

What's the size of the back up? Are all the required files in there? Try updating your su app, then try making another back up and make sure it works. What version of cwm are you using? Is your system r/w?

the SU binary and the clockworkmod version should have little to nothing to do with restoring a backup especially when it says the file cannot be found. Thus far is the size of the backup goes unless you opened up the file and started jacking around with stuff that was backed up there's no chance that he's missing information. When it says the file cannot be located it's because rom manager/ ROM toolbox is looking for the file that was originally placed in a specific area and is no longer there hence the 4.2 file structure I spoke of.

You're assuming you know why I was asking those questions, and as a result that you're more knowledgeable than I am in this subject area. Besides human error, there are still numerous ways cwm, su, and the back up size can contribute to a failed recovery. We're both just trying to help.

I agree everybody just tries to help everybody that's what makes this website great. The only reason I said what I did is because I ran into this exact problem about 4 months ago so I know exactly what he's talking about. Sorry if I came off as a ass, I didn't mean to.

This would make a lot of sense! That's my situation exactly. I don't want to try it just yet because I'm still trying to get a ROM working properly on my phone (PAC-man, having issues but that's for another thread). If I end up throwing in the towel and this checks out, I'll be sure say thanks.
