Unread count - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got a black 32 gig and I'm loving it. I noticed there doesn't seem to be an unread count on anything. So I'm using apex launcher pro with apex notifier and this has got my count on missed calls and hangouts but doesn't seem to working for gmail or stock email exchange... Am I missing something or is this not functioning yet since KitKat is still relatively new.
Thanks Ryan

Interesting...I assume that's with apex notifier...do I need to enable anything in accessibility? Does your stock email counter work?

I only use Gmail so no idea about stock email app but should be fine after installing the notification add-on and selecting the correct app

I know eh....did all that but no joy. You think googles own email client would display an unread count without the use of a third party app.

Double notifications

Every time I receive a text message I get two notifications in the bar. It is becoming very annoying and I can't seem to find the settings or app that's causing it. Any suggestions?

Are you using a custom rom? Are you rooted? Are you using a third party messaging application?
I am using cm rc1 with the honeybread theme. I am not using a third party messenging app

Was this occurring before on stock or on a previous rom? Did you do a full wipe when switching to CM7rc1? Did you restore apps?
If you answer No, No, Yes to those questions then here is what you need to do: Full wipe, reinstall the rom do not restore apps through titanium backup or any other third party backup app.
This wasn't occurring until the last few nightlies. I don't use titanium to back my apps up. They resync when I enter my email address. Ill give your suggestion a try

Text message solutions

Hey guys, one of the things I was looking most forward to with the JB update was to have quick reply to text message capability in the notifications. I'm stock not rooted, obviously I was wrong to think we were getting this functionality. My question is this.. Is there an app that will allow me to quick reply to text messages from the notification pull down? Without rooting? This is a small feature I know, but it is something that would very useful to me. Appreciate any feedback.

I don't think there is one to allow you to reply from the notification pull down, but Go sms has a quick reply notification feature.

Req messaging app???

Is there a messaging app the would give a real time alert (stated "typing") when in text conversation to notify you that the other person is responding to your message. Any help or thought and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Yeah but that's an app where both parties need to have that installed where I am looking for more of an sms app. How does that app even work and forgive my silly questions
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Hmm, idk if the facebook messenger app does that, u can use it to text people and both parties don't need it
Sent from my SCH-1535 using Tapatalk 4
I use whatsapp and it does that. Possibly one of the best messaging apps there is. Both parties need it, and it is a dollar, but you can use wifi and it is rock solid stable. One of the best purchases I've made in the play store.

yeah you are only going to get that functionality when both parties are using the same app. And it would have to be a messenger/chat type app not a strictly sms/mms type app

Kitkat for the Nexus 4 already comes with a messaging app. You just have to set it as default.

I uses SMS+ to back up my SMS messages from my old phone to GMail. I can't seem to restore them t 8SMS or Hangouts. Has anyone else been able to restore their SMS messages from another device to their Nexus 5 successfully?

So I don't have cell service yet but I'd like to get my voice messages through hangouts. Is it possible? I'm on paranoid android with Franco kennel.

Yes. Go in your Google Voice settings and under sync and notification, select messaging app under where you'd like to receive your messages.

But then I can't send messages out without cell service.

You will need to be connected to WiFi. Test it out and post your results back.
Google voice will just reroute you messages to hangouts but it will still use wifi to send the messages.

I've already tried the suggested in this thread. No bueno at all. It don't work it stays stuck on sending when I start a message to a contact.
That's the only way I know of getting GV messages in Hangouts.
I've never tried it without service. I guess hangouts itself is totally dependent on cellular networks by default. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
Sit tight. I'm sure someone else will have another idea for you.

Voice+ in CM10/CM11 will do exactly what you are looking for!
