Double notifications - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every time I receive a text message I get two notifications in the bar. It is becoming very annoying and I can't seem to find the settings or app that's causing it. Any suggestions?

Are you using a custom rom? Are you rooted? Are you using a third party messaging application?

Was this occurring before on stock or on a previous rom? Did you do a full wipe when switching to CM7rc1? Did you restore apps?
If you answer No, No, Yes to those questions then here is what you need to do: Full wipe, reinstall the rom do not restore apps through titanium backup or any other third party backup app.

This wasn't occurring until the last few nightlies. I don't use titanium to back my apps up. They resync when I enter my email address. Ill give your suggestion a try

Try clearing data go to settings application and clear data in gmail then in google voice. Might also have to clear cache partition and dalvik cache.

I am currently using transparent black and white facebook, google+, google search widget, gmail and google voice and they work fine. I couldn't get the transparent mms to work it would force close but I'm going to try again. Haven't tested the others yet.

yo lenny, how did you get yours to say facebook at the top left corner? Mine has like initials on them like BT.
Is your facebook just like the one I have in the picture? My wife has the pink one and I think her is just fb. But I just installed hers. Her phone isn't rooted she has the mytouch 4g.

I had a similar problem for the market. I went to manage applications and I uninstalled updates and cleared data. replaced the apk and checked to make sure it had the right permissions. Then I rebooted recovery and wiped cache, dalvik and fixed permissions and it started working. Not sure if this will work for you, but won't hurt to try it. Hope this helps.

Freezing stock messaging app no mms

Hey guys I just found a little problem with freezing the stock messaging app and using gosms. It seemed to happen only recently with no other changes but I couldn't receive any mms, but I could send them fine. Anyone else run into this?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Yes. You shouldn't freeze or uninstall the stock app. Just deactivate the notifications.

I'm pretty sure in the disabling option in GOSMS there's a message saying that it can cause instability issues with MMS.

So what is the problem? Just don't uninstall the stock SMS/mms and you'll be fine. The stock is part of android and is needed.

Just trying to save ram and bat lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
You don't need to save ram with android. If your using a task killer that's probably where your battery drain is coming from.
Read this and you'll understand a little better.

Worried about RAM? Why? Just curious. What exactly are you doing with your Infuse that you need to spend time worrying about RAM?

[Q]Default SMS notifications not working.

So I recently switched from Gosms back to the default and now I get no notifications for SMS. Any idea on how to fix this.
It's just a plain g2x no root.
Go to settings in the message app and make sure the notification option is checked

It is, but still no sound not even a vibrate.
Did you uninstall GoSMS? If you didn't deselect out as the default, maybe that's the problem? (I'm totally just spit balling here)

Sounds like a logical spit though, as I was about to suggest the same thing. Make sure GoSMS is uninstalled.

[Q] productivity screen. SMS not working anymore?

Hey,
As mentioned. In my productivity lock screen the message feature for my sms stopped working since the last time I changed the background picture. I changed it since then several times but it doesn't help...
Any ideas?
I'm on stock rom with sense 4+ and android 4.1
Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers

I guess you either have to clear the cache of the sms app or the cache of any lockscreen-related app. Take a look in the app list and clear the cache of what seems the most related to the lockscreen.
Cache cleaning didn't work...
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
What do you get exactly in the lockscreen? No sms or nothing at all (email,. lost calls, etc)?
No just the SMS. Mail, weather etc everything works...

You probably did this but, have you checked the productivity lockscreen options? There you can choose what must be displayed, sms included.
Yeah that's the reason I'm writing. It just stopped working even though checked in the option list. Don't know what it could be

There is also an option in the sms app options. I just noticed this. It should be on by default, though.
Thank you!!! That was it

8sms Alternative Messaging App

For anyone using Omar's or JellyAOSP and wants a fairly AOSP sms app with working mms, try 8sms! It looks much better than stock sms, and has quick reply pop-ups.

Thank you.
I am using it now on stock ROM. It works really good but not correctly in stand-alone mode.
Yea, stand alone doesn't work for me either. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

This is a nice app! You can use mmsdependencies from omar or mercurio and get this as a standalone... kinda
This is exactly what I was after, thanks. It's a bit annoying having two messaging apps but the AOSP app is loads nicer than the moto one.

Just keep the mmsdependencies.apk and place 8sms. You still need to enable standalone mode, though, otherwise it wont save your mesages

instead of 8sms you can use textra (seems a little bit leaner than 8smms).
