Pls help me. I maybe bought faulty HTC One X. - General Questions and Answers

So this is the story.
I have a friend who went on a vacation from Croatia to the UK. In the UK, he bought the HTc One X there, locked on o2 network. He sold that device to me, and he told me that i can unlock the device by purchasing unlock code from eBay. I purchased several codes, but i keep getting error - incorrect password.
I really have no choice, i cant sell that device to anybody, neither i can use it on Croatian networks.
Also, i have made factory reset, but it seems that neither this helps me.
Also, when i try to update software to 4.2.2, in middle of installation red exclamation mark shows up, then phone reboots. Please help me.
Device is not rooted, has stock recovery installed, bootloader is relocked, and stock 4.1.1 is installed.
Is there any other method of unlocking the device except entering the unlock code.
Thanks in advance

Id Simeone working on a way to unlock the one S without htcdev?

Hi there!
I really would like to unlock my one S but I don't want to loose the warranty, I have seen this thread regarding the work that is under development for the one X http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604300 and I was wondering if something like this exist here too

There isn't really any active work toward s-off for the One S. I think the hope is that anything the Att One-X guys come up with will work on or phone also. So there is still hope.
Also, you can unlock your phone without going through HTCdev. Therefore not losing your warrenty but you would need files from someones phone who is unlocked. The link below explains it but DO NOT try it with the files in the link as it won't work. You need the files from a One S.

Well, I think that an exploit for the one X cannot be used for the one S because of different chip used on the devices... We have a Qualcomm one while the one X has tegra. I would check the link that you have pass me but I think that it will be hard to find someone who would pass me the right files...

The AT&T (and some other NA carriers) One X (AKA One XL) has the MSM8960 which is also a S4 Krait+Adreno 225 combo, just with an LTE modem.

It would work for sure. If someone has a device going back to t-mobile or HTC for replacement we could use their partitions.

TAMPERED isn't such a great issue. It goes away by just flashing a RUU.
The real issue is the RELOCKED message you get when relocking the bootloader. To prevent this RELOCKED message, and to have it displaying LOCKED isntead (this way the bootloader won't appear to have been ever unlocked), you have to achieve S-OFF. That's what they're working on, if I'm not mistaken.

It would still show tampered. The only reason you would want to do it this way is so your phone wouldn't show up in HTC's database of phones they unlocked. When you unlock through HTC Dev you agree that unlock the phone may void parts of your warranty.
And as the other poster above stated even if you locked the boot-loader again it would say Relocked instead of Locked. So there isn't really much a reason to do it this way.
Well I hope that a way to unlock the phone without leaving traces will eventually cames out. I do not want to use htcdev because I have to keep this phone for 30 months as I have taken it with an operator contract, so if something happen and I have unlocked it then I would have no warranty.

[Q] Help with update !!

HEy everyone,
I have an HTC One S with Fido and after getting sick of waiting for 4.0.4 (which still hasnt realeased to us) i sim-unlocked the phone in hopes of getting hte update. However to my bad luck it still shows that there are no new updates.. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong ??
P.S: I know a lot of people will suggest me to flash a custom ROM but I just want to know if i can get it the normal way.
Thanks in advance
What country are you in? A little more description with your question might help

The reason is because to sim unlock you have to have root. You can't update with root. I would flash an ruu that matches your device, tmobile, europe, rogers, etc... andmatches your bootloader. (1.06, 1.09, 1.13, 1.14) (You must lock your boot loader prior to the ruu. "fastboot oem lock") Run the ruu > update > root > new rom(Optional) > sim unlock again. Hope this helps

I am in Canada and my build number is 1.84.631.9 CL64348.
I did some research in other threads and what i seem to understand is that my phone is still bound to my carrier's updates unless I change the CID.... Tell me if i'm wrong.
And @Qs5 I'm not rooted yet and the bootloader isn't even unlocked, when i said i sim-unlocked my phone i was talking about the old fashioned way (with the unlock code).

[Q] Help: may have bought a HTC Desire C Test Unit

Hi All,
I bought a HTC Desire C phone for 100 and sounded like a good deal but when I rebooted the device it displayed a message:
"This build if for development purposes only and should not be distributed outside HTC ...."
Also when trying to restart, it gives four options:
Normal
Hot restart
bootloader
Recovery
Also when booting, it displays HTC One tm ....
years ago I used to work for Motorola and worked on devices like MPx, MPx220 and Moto Q, back then our test
unit displayed similar messages but the device use to lose any user data including contact list, settings ets
this one doesn't - the seller claimed that this started happening after he "unlocked' the device from the HTC's website.
Motorola's test units use to mention that its "test" unit next to IMEI number, this one doesn't and infact the sticker
looks just like my HTC Raider (nice and clean)
So my question to the gurus is, how do I suppress the "development" message and how do I make the restart option simple
Do I need to reset it somehow? etc
thanks in advance
Z
You could always find a RUU for the Desire C and flash it. then everything should go back to stock.
He was correct, it shows that message after using the bootloader unlock method on HTCDEV, flash an RUU as stated above. Go to settings>about>software information and it should tell you if your using a custom Rom.

Your phone is running the Nameless custom Rom which is fine, and on the matter of the RUU it depends where you are and what carrier your on, also it depends if you have NFC, if you want to flash a stock Rom for NFC or non-NFC let me know
If I helped, just press thanks

Can't check for software update after relocked bootloader

I unlocked , installed custom on my phone, then I relocked my bootloader and flash stock att2.20 by running ruu.exe. now, everytime I checked for software update, it always says service unavailable. Do you guys know anything about this problem? Btw, my phone is unlocked and use T-Mobile.

You realize you can't update a stock AT&T device via T-Mobile, even if you're using a T-Mobile sim card?

It always puzzles me why do people on custom ROMs want to get OTAs?
AT&T JB isn't rolling out yet. When it does, it will get posted in Development in a TWRP-flashable rooted form.
I also doubt the OTA will feature much (if anything) that is not already present in the JB Sense ROMs already up in Development, plus all of AT&T's bloatware crap and other meddling. Possibly including a new hboot that will mess up even more stuff this time.

Help! Identifying My E8 Model

Hi E8 users! I hope you can help me identify my model and how to fix it. But I don't know how to troubleshoot since im knew to android (came from ios). The problem is I know that there are some missing like blinkfeed in my os. Tried to reset/restore but still missing. I foundout also that i cant go to fastboot menu (power + volume down). Also no fastboot setting in setting>battery. See my version in attached screenshot.

Dude use this RUU to restore to stock if that's what you want. You seem to be on a custom build at the moment. From what your screenshot tells us you have M8sw on a custom build ROM. Did you flash it with anything?

Im glad someone replied. I will download and follow your advice. I bought the phone 2nd hand and i don't know the history. Can i flash ruu even my boatloader is locked? By the way when i tried to go to recovery (power + volume up) i got the recovery with a android lying down with a text "no command". Is that ok?

As long as you bought this phone in China and know it to be a China dual GSM SIM, the RUU should work for you and you should be good. But remember that if you had it unlocked by anyone or anything, that will go away.
This is my first HTC device and I haven't flashed RUU since HTC Desire, so you will need to Google around a little.
Just a lil weird, as per my research M8sw model should be dual sim but mine is single sim. Btw, i attach the photo of my recovery

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Because no custom basebands are out for E8 yet.
Wow.. You really get fake phones there? Can you share pictures?
