[Q] Help: may have bought a HTC Desire C Test Unit - General Questions and Answers

Hi All,
I bought a HTC Desire C phone for 100 and sounded like a good deal but when I rebooted the device it displayed a message:
"This build if for development purposes only and should not be distributed outside HTC ...."
Also when trying to restart, it gives four options:
Normal
Hot restart
bootloader
Recovery
Also when booting, it displays HTC One tm ....
years ago I used to work for Motorola and worked on devices like MPx, MPx220 and Moto Q, back then our test
unit displayed similar messages but the device use to lose any user data including contact list, settings ets
this one doesn't - the seller claimed that this started happening after he "unlocked' the device from the HTC's website.
Motorola's test units use to mention that its "test" unit next to IMEI number, this one doesn't and infact the sticker
looks just like my HTC Raider (nice and clean)
So my question to the gurus is, how do I suppress the "development" message and how do I make the restart option simple
Do I need to reset it somehow? etc
thanks in advance
Z

You could always find a RUU for the Desire C and flash it. then everything should go back to stock.

He was correct, it shows that message after using the bootloader unlock method on HTCDEV, flash an RUU as stated above. Go to settings>about>software information and it should tell you if your using a custom Rom.

Your phone is running the Nameless custom Rom which is fine, and on the matter of the RUU it depends where you are and what carrier your on, also it depends if you have NFC, if you want to flash a stock Rom for NFC or non-NFC let me know
If I helped, just press thanks

[Q] Root with S-OFF

Hello everyone,
This is my first post and sorry if this question was already answered, but I couldn't find the answer to my particular question when I searched for it. I just recently got my Sensation for T-Mobile a couple weeks ago and rooted it but do not have the S-OFF because of the OTA update to 2.3.4 so I used the HTC unlock method. Is there any way I can get the s-off because I am finding it difficult to flash a lot of ROMs I want to try since a lot of them either never load or they just go into an infinite boot loop? Thanks for all your help and advice and I'm hoping I can gain more knowledge thru you guys since this was a big leap for me from a Blackberry 9700.
I recently rooted my HTC Sensation and got the s off following the directions provided here on xda. Then installed Revolution HD. No issues with that either. I just followed the directions there also. Did it not work for u?

No, it didn't work for me. My friend told me that the alpharev method used here on the forums wouldn't work because I downloaded the OTA update to 2.3.4 when I first received it out of the box. He told me that only the htc unlock method would work to root my phone but I wouldn't have S-off. My phone is currently rooted right now with no s-off so certain ROMs won't flash or they will butt I'll hey errors in them.
I find that strange. I'm no expert but my Sensation was running stock Android 2.3.4 before I rooted and it reads that s is off. I went to revolutionary.io/ download for Windows filled in the info for the beta key save the zip file and and launch it then enter the beta key. Then just follow the prompts from there. Did u do that?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
Yup, I did exactly that a number of times but it didn't work. That's weird. Maybe someone else on here can help me get full s-off on my sensation. What's your service provider ? Cuz mine is T-Mobile and it came stock 2.3.3 but I did the OTA update and was able to root it but get no s-off
hi,
just to share my experience ... On Asian Starhub
i have updated to 2.3.4 via OTA before i root and s-off, and eventually supercid.
Followed the guide step by step.
The rooting , s-off and supercid process is smooth as butter ( as some dev quoted ).
Flashed Bulletproof 1.4 and now InsertCoin 3.3.0.
Perhaps u can provide more phone details like your current Hboot version and which part of the process you are stuck so that some experienced member can help u out easier.

Same here. 2.3.4 OTA and I am fully rooted with S-Off. Followed the guide step by step. Used Revolutionary.io with no problem. Be sure you enter your beta key in exactly, its case sensative. I'm also on TMOUS.

So it worked ok for the Sensation XE? I'm about to upgrade my phone from the Desire (s-off, root, leedroid hd 3.3.3 data++) and was wondering if the revolutionary route would work (really want the XE!). Had no issues at all with the Desire and would wait to upgrade if there were issues.
Thanks.

Sorry if I'm asking the obvious or if this has already been covered, but did you first go to the HTC dev. site and follow their specific instructions for unlocking the bootloader? If not, do that first, then use Revolutionary to root/s-off, wipe your phone to factory (I always wipe dalvik cache and cache partition, too), then flash whatever ROM and kernel you want.
Let me know if that helps any.

Very cool. Can't wait to upgrade to this phone. Sensation looked great before, but these latest two (LE screen too big for my tastes) are looking amazing!
Ok guys, thanks for the input. I'll be sure to fill you in if I'm havng any difficulties...I'll try it again today.
I'm also on Tmobile 10 plus years. After following the steps and entering the beta key added the Su zip and it kept s off. You are prop missing something in between. Make sure u are entering the right hboot of your phone otherwise the beta key will be incorrect. Did u set up connection to HTC sync when u did it?

Ok guys, I tried getting s-off again tonite. Mind you my phone is already rooted but has s-on. I have a custom ROM flashed on it currently, I ran the revolutionary app and it suddenly closed on me and i also got an unforseen FC on the home screen of the phone. I flashed back to my nandroid backup of my stock rooted ROM and still the same thing. Suggestions? I saw on another post I should try doing this on a different computer. I tried different methods of connecting the phone via usb with mounting it as a drive, charge only, htc sync but to no avail. I did have htc sync running and it did sync up properly.
I tot we should uninstall HTC sync .... Only leave the HTC drivers alone ....
Maybe someone can advise on this ....

Yes, uninstall HTC sync, leave HTC drivers alone.

Is there specific drivers I need to install? It doesn't say in the guide.
When u install , then uninstall HTC sync . The HTC sync drivers will be removed but HTC drivers remains . That's the drivers we want to keep. Alternatively , u can just install the HTC drivers. But u got to search for it elsewhere. I think its HTC 3.7.0.01 drivers or something .... ( if I can remember correctly )

Hi,
Yes,you can flash Sensation ROMS on Sensation XE.
It does matter whether it's GB or ICS,beccause they require different firmwares.
ARHD is good ICS ROM.
Yes you can... Sensation and xe are the same phones with a different cpu clock... And beats obviously

simply put
MOBILE hardware ----talks with-----firmware-----talks with-----ROM
now for GB there is GB firmware(s)
also for ICS there is ICS firmware(s)
and GB firmware cant run ICS ROMS
ICS firmware cant run GB ROMS
so to move from GB to ICS ..you need to update your firmware to an ICS one
to chk your firmware
settings->about phone->soft ware information->build number
if its 1.xx... then its GB firmware
for ICS you need to have 3.32.xx firmware

How did it fail? What did it say?
My suggestion is that you run the process again but look at your serial number carefully and also copy and paste the beta key provided when you entire in the serial number into the revolitionary tool box when it asks for it to reduce any chances of error.

Hi Sensation lover,
The Zerging root says, it failed to get root. The Beta Key gets accepted. Hence I am sure my serial number and beta key are correct.
Thanks again for your support.
Thanks,
Ahmed
Sometimes its best to copy and paste beta key into area to assure its exact. I'd try to start process again and be absolutely sure ALL numbers are correct.get new beta key, copy paste key see if it helps. Revolutionary is pretty straight forward. Just make sure numbers are exact! You should be good to go then. good luck!

Hi All,
In the process of upgrading, I bricked it I belive.
My phone just loops now while booting. The HTC screen comes and then goes back to the booting mode.
I have a fresh micro sd card as well. Now I need to restart the phone.
When I try to HBoot the phone, the message says as Model ID incorrect. I understand that this is due to the incompatible zip file in the root folder.
Can some one guide me to get the right image file? I tried many threads with no success.
Looking forward..

Hi,
What ROM did you try to load?
Did you superCid?
It is step 4 of the s-off guide.
This will avoid Model incorrect ID problem.
the ONLY difference between the two phones is the colour of the back door/battery cover
and the red capacitive buttons..

What firmware are you running on?
I advice you to check here if you are running on the correct firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
You need to use tacoroot method to get around the Zerging root failed message. Use this guide.
Except, use
Code:
adb shell chmod [COLOR="Red"]777[/COLOR] /data/local/tacoroot.bin
Instead of
Code:
adb shell chmod [COLOR="Red"]755[/COLOR] /data/local/tacoroot.bin
Then, after the S-Off, you need to follow the normal steps to install the ROM, as previously stated.

[Q] Root on One XL?

Hello,
I am running One XL 4.0.3, the NON-ROGERS/AT&T VERSION, its the Asia version, i just received that i can upgrade to 4.0.4, but idk that if i can still get rooted if i upgraded to 4.0.4(or later on 4.1).
P.S.: I don't want to go for the official Bootloader Unlock.
Thanks.
Depends what version of 4.0.3 you're running...
Go to Settings, About, Software Info, More, Build number.

i would just do htcdev unlock, i assume u know what you are doing and i assume htc will honor anything that isnt from an idiot flashing the wrong thing. so just do an htcdev unlock.
I don't want to lose my warranty... (in case of any screen damage, etc)
I have ROOTED, running of 4.0.3, but i know that i will lose my root when i upgrade to 4.0.4, and i am wondering if i still can root my phone on 4.0.4(without htcdev.com)

Flash the boot.IMG first through fast boot then flash the ROM.
Also rooting will void your warranty. Once the phone is unlocked it will be "tampered"

Recovery error on HTC one S

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to install a recovery on HTC ONE S (S4-1.7Ghz).
I've installed all fastboot/adb drivers needed, adb recognise the device and I've flashed successfully many recoveryes img.
The problem is: I'm not able to ENTER the recovery.
In bootloader, i press the power button when "recovery" is highlighted, so the phone tries to enter the recovery (pink text "Entering recovery...") but remains stuck on the "HTC - quietly brilliant" logo and a red text under it:
"This build is for develoment purposes only.
Do not distribute outside of htc without HTC's written permission.
Failure to comply may lead to legal action" <-- What?? Why?? What I've done??
I've bought this phone from expansys (UK model)... unlocked from any carrier.
Please help me :/
If your default clock speed is 1.7 then you have a s3.

First of all, if that is your stock cpu speed, than you have an s3, not s4
Second, that message is normal, you'll see it everytime you boot into recovery.
It'll take some time to boot but you'll get used to it

First make sure if you have a S3 or a S4 (there are several threads which explain the differences)
If you have a S3 you have to be sure to install a custom recovery that works with S3.
I had the same problem, because I have a S3 and tried to install the wrong recovery!
Try with TWRP for S3 if you have one!

Just wait for it. Every day the S3 community is growing bigger.
So there will be either more devs who get a S3 or more devs will port their Roms to S3.
Until then, I can recommend to you TrickDroid 4.0. It is still Sense but there are enough ways to customize your phone.

Pls help me. I maybe bought faulty HTC One X.

So this is the story.
I have a friend who went on a vacation from Croatia to the UK. In the UK, he bought the HTc One X there, locked on o2 network. He sold that device to me, and he told me that i can unlock the device by purchasing unlock code from eBay. I purchased several codes, but i keep getting error - incorrect password.
I really have no choice, i cant sell that device to anybody, neither i can use it on Croatian networks.
Also, i have made factory reset, but it seems that neither this helps me.
Also, when i try to update software to 4.2.2, in middle of installation red exclamation mark shows up, then phone reboots. Please help me.
Device is not rooted, has stock recovery installed, bootloader is relocked, and stock 4.1.1 is installed.
Is there any other method of unlocking the device except entering the unlock code.
Thanks in advance
