Hi all gurus!
Just purchased galaxy s5830i for tethering purposes only. I have HSDPA 21 Mbit/s connection and I get around 900kB/s to 2 MB/s download speed with my galaxy s3 gt-i9300 (cm11) via wifi or usb tethering. And with s5830i only around 650kB/s while it still supports and connects HSDPA. It does have stock rooted rom on it.
My question is how much CPU this kind of download speeds requires? Is my s5830i even capable of handling it? And how much cpu wifi / usb tethering requires? I dont wanna stick my s3 for that purpose because I have that lower end device for it.
Sorry for my english and being probably bit unclear

Both phones has full signal and attached to charger if it means anything.

Hi.
I'd like to ask if the galaxy note 10.1 3g models support:
1. Creating your own wifi hotspot
2. Using it as a usb modem on a pc
I'm asking this since I know that my 3G iPad can't do this without jailbreak hacks. ...and yes I may end up using the tablet as my phone.... cause I'm sad on the inside...
On a side note, is LTE worth it price-wise and performance-wise in your respective countries? I'm not really considering the future LTE version but maybe this tablet may last longer on me than I'm willing to say cause I'm cheap. LTE's not quite up in my country so far and 3G is very limited in my country. As in they offer unlimited 3G on all 3 major networks but they throttle the connection speeds from dial-up to 256kbps at best. I'm on the worst network (signal-wise) but my 3G connection is at least dependable compared to the other 2 (I can use viber with high quality sound) as long as I stay in the capital region (which is always).

try looking up "wifi hotspot / wifi tether" app from innodroapps. i use it to tether my note 10.1 to my computer all the time with no problem. I only have the wifi version of the tablet though, so the 3g version may have the option to tether built in somewhere

I use Fox-Fi on my SG Note without rooting. Should work on the 10.1.
I own Blade II and I am not currently using it so I thought I could use it as Wifi HotSpot for my Gnex and nexus 7. I live in Poland and we have here carrier Aero2 which is providing free internet access, you are paying only for sim card around 6$ and you can use free 512Kbps internet, it only works on 900Mhz 3G towers but blade is supporting this frequency. I would like to use my Blade strictly as Wifi Modem only and I am wondering which is best ROM and Wifi Tethering software for such a use. I would like to have decent battery life and true wifi connection, not AD-HOC which is provided by play store apps. I tried to underclock CPU to around 300Mhz and I was ok with tether speed, but native wifi tethering in GingerBread is still battery hog. Is there any 3rd party software with non Ad-hoc hotspot and good battery consumption? Which is best rom for saving battery? Best thing would be modded android with modem feature only but i don't think there is anything like that. Thanks for help and greetings from Poland
There's no such thing as a best ROM because everyone has different things they like in a ROM.
My best advice to you would be to just test out different ROMs and see which one you like the most.

Got a new S4 yesterday and running a few speedtests since, my preliminary conclusion is that this modem gives me slightly faster down and up speeds.
I have seen two tests that I have never seen before: two at 8 mbps and one at 9.7 mbps down
Two nice up speeds as well 1.65 mbps and one at 2.2 mbps
There is no LTE here.
I am comparing this with a Galaxy S2 also on AT&T with a variety of custom ROMs (task, derteufel, etc)

The S4 has a HSPA+ 42 mbps. The AT&T S2 (i777) only has 21mbps. Even though AT&T's HSPA+ network tops out at 21, you'll still get faster speeds since its it 42mbps.

I'm seeing a similar boost in speed for no explainable reason. The normal maximum in my area using my i777 on H+ had been roughly 3 down and 2 up, give or take a Meg. Now I am getting speeds up to 7 down and 4 up in the same places. I suspect it might have something to do with the new APN and the LTE-access data plan? Perhaps the network is giving priority over bandwidth to these customers to give a perceived speed boost after getting a new phone?
For a reference, my friend with my old Infuse is still getting the "old" speeds...

I have long suspected that AT&T is playing with dataspeeds of most of their customers.
speed up new clients (for a while);
slow down those that have 'modified' their phones;
etc.

Lol....slow down those who have 'modified' their phones. You have got to be kidding. A) They can't tell unless you are tethering and even then there are apps that will allow you to tether without rooting. B) Why would they care if you aren't running stock os. It isn't their os, but rather samung, htc, sony, etc. with att tossing in some apps and bloatware. They can slow your speeds if you are using a large amount of data, but not just because you're rooted or running a rom
Also, why would they slow down your data speeds after some time. It simply isn't a good business plan. You want consistent quality service for your customers so they will sign on the dotted line, contract after contract.

But I still suspect they could have different bandwidth pools for their different APNs... If that is the case it might be just that there are less people on this APN...

Isn't that achieved via MIMO (dual router connection)? Which currently only tmobile does. So that should not matter when testing AT&T's network.

Here are my first 10 speedtests on the AT&T S4
There is no LTE here. Never ever have I seen such high speeds. My guess is down speeds are 30% better and up speeds 20% better.
9.6 1.26
6.1 1.28
8.6 1.22
4.1 1.27
11.6 1.28
9.2 1.26
8.3 1.27
9.7 1.65
7.3 1.27
8.0 1.27
My wife's Galaxy Note 2 is still on the typical old speeds I was getting before.
Amazing

Correct. AT&T only has hspa speed, not hspa+. They implement some of the improvements from hspa+, but they don't support what is broadly known as "mimo". Aka, the speed tops out at 14.4, despite technically being an hspa* network.
Hence the comparison is interesting, though I'm always loathe to take any one user's experience as a trend.
Still, definitely a good sign for the modem/firmware/antennas in the GS4.

Hi Everyone,
I seem to be having a real problem with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 wifi link speed.
I have 3 of these tablets connected to my router.
I also have a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone connected.
The WiFi link speed on the phone is 433 Mbps but none of the tablets will connect above 150 Mbps
All devices are connected via 5Ghz. When I had 2.4Ghz switched on the tablets wouldn't connect above 72 Mbs.
So can anyone please tell me what I need to do to get the speed on that tablets up to similar to tge phone please.
Many Thanks
MP
You're limited by the capabilities of the tablet, not the network. Unfortunately our tablets are old technology so of course your newer s4 connects with better speeds.

So is 150 Mbps the fastest I can expect to get?
If so maybe that's the excuse I need to upgrade to the new Galaxy Tab S 10.5
Cheers

I can't answer to that, I don't have near those speeds. What service do you have? I'm at 22 here with stupid Time Warner.

Uh oh this could turn highly political on my part. Lets just say you DONT want to live in the US under its current (mis) "management". On the topic of your speed, I haven't found a limit at my current speeds on any of my devices: s3, note 10.1 og, n7 lte, skyrocket, note 2. Only because the most they can get is the 22mbps that is provided me. I'd take your 150 if we even had those speeds offered around here.
Hello friends
I have purchased my mi4i two days ago.
But i noticed that i m getting very low speed(400_500kbps)on 3g mode.
I m using idea sim. At the same time when i m using the same sim on my Redmi 1s and Samsung galaxy s2, i m getting 800kbps to 1.2mbps download speed. Have anyone else noticed this?
Then i again when to mi india page where top 3g speed is shown as 3.6mbps (ss atteched) thats so pathetic as other devices have 21mbps or 14mbps top speed.
Please correct me if i am the only one who is facing this problem.
Now m feeling checked...
I once used 3g and i got more then 1.5 mbps speed on idea

Can u please post ur speed test results on 3g mode, as i got this. .
Speed test via OOKLA crosses 3.6 mbps with ease but while using apps that require constant data connection I feel as if its being throttled to 60 kbps - 75 kps. I can't pin point the issue.

What plan are u using 2g or 3g??
Your speed is too low i think u r using 2g plan.
I have noticed this problem too. 3g speeds are almost as slow as the Edge speeds on my old sGS3 --'
4g speeds are good though but the coverage over here is not that great so this really gets annoying :/

I have provided ss, the H + indicates it's on 3G also the speed test 8 mbps +. Check ss
Ohh now i have seen, your ping is good but 599kbps is still slow, plz try to do the same on different phone with the same sim. Then post results.
Coz i still think that it has a bad 3g modem.
Thanku
Same problem here, download speed is under 7 Mbps on H+, the same sim in other regular phone i get ~27Mbps.
Switched to 4G, i get ~35Mbps and in other phone i get ~100 Mbps...
I am using this phone since 2 days ANd yes ! the 3g speed is quite less as compared to speed given by my old phone (moto g1)
Yup @gigiunu and @akshaysalunke13
If u got any proper solution ir reason then please don't forget to share
Think its a Hardware problem (bad Hardware) or can be solved with a Software update ??
same issue
hi i also bought a mi 4i...everything is great except 3g...speed is almost non existent... cant even open facebook... when i used same sim on mu old samsung duos 2 3g works fine... so i had to setup a wifi hotspot from my old phone... now it seems i cant get rid of the phone i replaced...
have you guys tried change to 3G only ?
*#*#4636#*#* > phone * information and change network to WCDMA only.
try and post result please.
