My co-worker at the aluminum smelter bought Moto g and is experiencing problems do to the magnet. We have a magnetic field at work and his phone thinks the case is closed and screen turns off.
Is it possible to turn it off?? I did it on my LG G2 which had the same problem in magnetic field.
Thanks.

It his phone rooted?
Xposed mod oportunity
I don't think that you can.
However you can use some tool to either keep the screen awake all the time (battery drain).
Or use something like Tasker (Llama is still free i guess) and set a rule with magnet detection : if magnet is lower/greater than default value then screen on or off.
I don't have a magnet at hand, but this xposed module should do it

yep, it works
It's so easy to change stuff with Xposed, should came with the stock Android

Yes, you need root to be able to install the Xposed framework app. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
What my xpose module does is to bypass the function that checks if the cover is on and puts the phone to sleep.
Is it enough to just root or do I need to unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery??

Currently there is no root method which does not need unlocked bootloader.
Unfortunatly you need to first unlock your BL, then install a custom recovery to finally root your device.
But trust me it's worth it.

When shell close, the phone doesn't go to sleep mode but if I manually turn the phone to sleep and open the case it wake the phone up.
Any idea guys?

That seems to be a problem with CM, you should ask the builder about it.

So it's been a little bit of time, and I'm curious to try out the new runtime. Problem is, every time I try to make the switch, all it does is reboot. I don't get the 5-10 build time, and I'm still running dalvik. Stock ROM, Franco r16 test kernel, rooted, unlocked boot loader, etc. Any ideas what could be preventing me from making the change? Or a method to find out for myself?
TIA

Custom recovery like cwm and then flashing supersu is better in my opinion.

Firstly great choice leaving that other OS behind that's the best decision you have made.
Secondly the moto g is another great decision as its an amazing phone..
Yes root it, install xposed framework and gravitybox and customize your heart out.
I followed the guide over at modaco forums to root mine:

There are two methods to root either work fine.

IMHO, you should use your phone without making those hacks for a while. You need root if you want to change something really specific on your phone or want to run some really specific apps. The vast majority of people doesn't need any of those.
That said, since you already rooted your phone, you might want to try using Xposed Framework (with gravitybox), Greenify and Titanium Backup. Search for those to see if that is something you might think is useful.

I would read on xda a good bit before attempting to do anything as it's not for the faint hearted but as soon as you have enough knowledge you'll be fine.
I'm the sort of person who likes to root but even I haven't gotten around to unlocking the bootloader on the Moto G yet and I have it a month now, I only use it as a second phone after my HTC One, plus I only use a tablet and not a PC /Laptop so you can't do anything like this on a tablet which frankly I find bizzare given more people use tablets now then desktop computers and laptops but anyway read, read and read more and you'll be fine

Leo. Root your phone with @geohot Towelroot and then install Xposed and X Tether. Native app FTW.
Use Android Device Manager
An easy way to get back fingerprint lock is to use the android device manager to disable the lockscreen lock outs. You also have to install the certificate first and do not remove it or you will have to do this again.

Found another quicker way to do this:
1. Goto google.com/android/devicemanager and locate your phone.
2. Click "Lock" and chose a new number password.
3. Type the new password on your phone and it will unlock.
4. Now it should let your change the lockscreen to anything, and foxfi will continue to work

I wanted to know if CF rooting, i can underclock my device so i could save battery? And yeah i havent rooted my n5 yet. I need an easier way :/ those adb drivers driving me nuts with my windows xp(i know i broke my laptop with win7)
So yeah can i? I also wanted to try the display control(color changing) so does cf rooting do it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Hi,
You should read what CF-Root does: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/nexus-5-cf-auto-root-t2507211.
It only unlocks your Bootloader and root your device, it's not something to control the kernel (CPU) settings.
To underclock and use the coulour control you need an app (easier) and a custom kernel that includes the colour control feature, see the dev sections.
For battery life you should take a look at your use, settings and apps if you have a "bad" battery life, maybe something is draining your battery as unusual (it depends what is your battery life actually with what kind of use).

You need to flash the custom recovery via fastboot...
However, once you are rooted, you can use Flashify to flash things!

Just get the drivers fixed. If you run into trouble whilst modding your phone, you'll need your computer working with drivers to fix it so it's best to address that issue first. If you can't get the drivera working, DON'T ROOT. There are no useful shortcuts.

I don't use PA, so I'm not sure. However, the PA team has made a complete overhaul in their approach towards the rom. That's why you can't see any specific PA rom settings anywhere.
Besides that, the align thing needs to be done either at source or by decompiling the systemui.apk afaik.
