[Q] N5 won't change to ART... - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it's been a little bit of time, and I'm curious to try out the new runtime. Problem is, every time I try to make the switch, all it does is reboot. I don't get the 5-10 build time, and I'm still running dalvik. Stock ROM, Franco r16 test kernel, rooted, unlocked boot loader, etc. Any ideas what could be preventing me from making the change? Or a method to find out for myself?
TIA

Are you sure the kernel that you are running supports ART?

I don't think that's it, as I flashed back to stock to see if that was the case, and still no luck...

Not sure then, i have switched from Dalvik to ART and back to Dalvik several times with no issues.

Do you have Xposed framework installed?

I do not. I've reverted back to an old nandroid, and that worked. Topic can be closed/deleted.

Lost HDR+ camera mode.

Hello all,
So far loving the N5.
I need some help. I seem to have lost my HDR+ setting in the Camera. I did have it and now it is missing.
So far I have rooted my device and changed the compiler to ANT. Would any of those remove it? Maybe I'm being stupid and changed a setting in the camera, but I have tried everything. I know when using flash it was greyed out but now its completely gone.
Any one else lost it?
Be easy on me its my first Nexus and been searching for the last hour on XDA
I'm running ART and still have access to HDR+ so i don't think it's that.
Thanks for the reply DirkGently Are you rooted? I'm going to reset my phone in a moment to see if that fixes it.

I have HDR+ using the new runtime ART and rooted so I can only think that it could be either down a software issue or hardware issue if a reset doesn't fix it then I would return your phone to where you bought it and get another

try clearing the cache maybe?(cache may take a long time to clear)
if that doesn't work, i can pull my Googlecamera.apk and upload it
If you are rooted, try going here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516061
There is a modded camera zip and a stock camera zip. Maybe try flashing the latter to see if it helps.
So far i have cleared all data from gallery and camera. Now I just reset my phone and no luck if someone could upload the camera apk I could try that.
Is there a way to disable it?

Thanks, I just tried that and it doesn't seem to be the whole APK and just some files. Has anyone got the APK?

Thanks to everyone that helped out.
I found the culprit. I changed my build prop to be a Galaxy Note 3 so I could run Polaris Office.
I have changed it all back and after a camera data wipe it all returned.
So if any of you want to change the device name for any reason, it will disable the HDR+ mode.

[Q] Camera not working with ART

The stock camera app stops working when using ART, getting a message "Unable to connect to camera". It works fine again when I switch back to Dalvik. Running 4.4.2 stock, Franco Kernel, TWRP recovery.
How do I troubleshoot this?

[Q] Viper4Android doesn't stay on

I've installed Viper4Android on my N5 (Carbon ROM, ElementalX kernel), and when it works, it works great. However, it doesn't always kick in automatically. Sometimes I have to open the app in order to get it to run.
I've uninstalled the driver/app and reinstalled V4A multiple times. Same issue.
Any ideas on what's going on?
Could be the 4.4.2 0bytes running services issue.

I'm on Carbon. Interesting...can you shed some light on this issue? I'm assuming there's no workaround.
Also had this issue on slimkat.
Converting to a system app in titanium backup solved it for me.

We've got a whole viper4android thread in themes and apps which even has flashable zips in it.

[Q] Do you have to install a ROM to get xposed?

Do I need to get a ROM with xposed on it or can I install it myself without one? This is my first nexus device so I'm new to this territory! Sorry for the newbie question
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Xposed isn't nexus specific so the same rules apply to any Android device.
The point of Xposed is to be able to apply custom features without having to change rom or edit your existing rom, so nope - you can use whatever rom is there now
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Your device does, however, have to be rooted.

Okay thank you - so don't HAVE to have a ROM right? I am on Vomers stock ATM so in theory I can just flash xposed on and done?
Just confusing because all the other phones I've had its just always been a part of the Roms I've used and I don't see one in the nexus specific Roms!

Xposed is an apk that you install. Then from there, you install frameworks. I've never seen it included in any rom.

It's included in a few ROMs which are just small modifications of the stock ROM lol.. And they usually come with GravityBox which is kind of pointless and you might as well use a full AOSP/CAF custom ROM.

Ah the sorts of ROMs I stay away from then
To be honest, if you're including it with a ROM, it means you either cannot be bothered to or do not have the skill to add teh functions to a rom, in either case - perhaps you shouldn't release a "rom" hahah

Can't Update nexus 5 past 4.4.3

I Need help updating my nexus 5 to 4.4.4. I touched the notification notifing me of the update and it switched to the twrp recovery screen and failed. I then switched back to stock recovery. Now it keeps saying my system is up to date. Any suggestions?
it failed because you are not running 100% stock rom/kernel.

fastboot.
There has to be a better way besides me doing a fastboot or restore to factory. There is an app or script I remember having to cleardata/clear cache . I have too much important data that I can't seem to back up.

Fastboot flash a recovery then use that recovery to flash a rooted stock ROM.zip
Pretty easy really.

I wanted to reset the app that controlled updates. I had a similar problem with me rooted galaxy s4 and HTC One and it was as simple as an app reset.

Oh right. So to be clear you don't want to be updated / rooted / recovery ?
Because our assumption was that you did want those things and that's the advice we've been giving
App reset? No idea, they changed how it works.
If you use search, there are other threads discussing that. Probably get this one locked
Edit. Oh so you mean the reset that forces OTA updates to be checked again? That was always considered a bad idea and it still won't help your issue of your ROM is modified.
If you want root, what I said is the best way bar none. If you want stock unrooted, fastboot flash system.img to clean up your ROM.

Well thanks for helping me to help you. It's been a dream it really has.
Everyone else don't do what the OP has done. It has been linked to some pretty bad software issues... This was just a case of "OP knows best" unfortunately.
