Moto G is my first Motorola phone ever, so I don't know if this is normal.
When I have the YouTube app open and the video paused, the screen never turns off.... even after 10, 20, or 30 minutes.
On my other phones, such as the Samsung Note 3, HTC One and iPhone 4, the screen turns off after 30 seconds
(if that's what i chose in the "Display" setting).
With video paused in the Netflix player or MX player, the screen turns off after 30 seconds. It's only when the video is paused in the YouTube app.
I looked into the Moto G's display settings, but still couldn't figure out why it's not turning off with YouTube video paused
like the other phones.
Thanks!
noboy has experience this "problem" ?
Don't have this problem with my Youtube app.
Have you tried it with Chrome or another browser? Edit: Ah, nevermind. Just read that you tried it in the Netflix player.

I didn't think to try YouTube in a browser.
I opened up Chrome app and wen to YouTube. After the video starts playing for a few seconds, I hit the pause button. 30 seconds later, the screen will turn off.
So I guess the problem is the the YouTube app. Just tried the same video using the YouTube app... the screen would not turn off with the video paused at all.
I first discovered this "problem" when I was watching a YouTube video on YouTube app and had to leave the office. I hit pause and left the Moto G on my desk. When I came back about an hour later, the screen was still on. It can't be good for any LCD screen to display a static image like that.(or for battery life)
Why would you just leave it paused over a period of time?

see my post above(#4). When I was playing the video, someone called me, so I paused the video in the YouTube app. It was an emergency and I just ran out of the office. Obviously I wasn't about to stop and turn off my phone.
I just conducted another test... I left a video playing. It was 10 minutes long... after the video completely finished playing, the YouTube app also prevented the Moto G's screen from turning off. Basically the screen won't turn off whenever the YouTube app is open. (with or without video playing)
Not really sure what the problem is, but it does not occur on my Note 2, Note 3, or HTC One.

Hello,
Has anyone noticed that when watching a video on youtube, and you pause / wait for it to load or whatever and the display goes to sleep. When hitting the power button (literally seconds later) to wake the device, the youtube app is still there, but it has not only NOT finished downloading whatever video I was watching, but the video is GONE and I have to d/l the damned thing all over again.
Maybe this is just my device, but it has done this will all ROMs I have tried. Perhaps there is a software fix for this? I have a euro touch pro in Canada, no 3G and a youtube vid can take 5-6 minutes sometimes, plus a lot of data. I hate to watch 9 minutes of a video, have to pause, turn it back on to find I have to start again!
Thanks in advance!
i believe that is just the app itself mines does this to the youtube app needs work
Anyone know how to lock the screen while watching a video so that when you touch the screen by mistake the video doesn't stop playing? I saw a youtube video that showed how to do it on the GS2 but that dosen't work on the skyrocket.
If you hit the power button while it's playing it will lock the screen. Hope that helps!

Just tried it and it works when playing video files on the phone but it doesn't work when playing through an app like HBO go, any idea for when watching that way?

I noticed that as well. It seems that if we are streaming videos we can't lock the screen. I guess only on ones from the gallery or phone will allow us to do it.

When I'm connected to Bluetooth speakers and watch a video on YouTube from the phone the screen gets dark and had the cast sign shows up the whole time.

I would LOVE to know this. I've found a workaround that involves:
1. Kill YouTube from recents (if you've already got the cast icon over videos)
2. Turn off BT
3. Open YouTube and start playing the video
4. Turn BT back on and connect
It's as if YouTube always assumes you're connected to a BT display?
This isn't specific to the N5. Has happened throughout the last two Youtube app updates...
Supposedly google knows.
Yeah. I think they are trying to force us to use the Chromecast.

my work around is lock your screen orientation (i.e landscape) before playing the video.
wonderful that google is ignoring this problem when there's thousands of ppl complaining about this already.
or they never use bluetooth speakers before.

I had this issue as well. Happened to me twice now. Started to install some apps I had. Problem hasn't come back yet. Don't know if it's app related or not.

I actually had a similar issue, but within the Samsung Video Player itself. When I would play any video, the screen would kind of flicker on/off or have horizontal lines on it. That started about the time I was playing with a Miracast receiver. Didn't have any issues with any other video player. The video player had also started giving me a message like, "cannot play while on call" or something. Clearing RAM/Apps fixed that. But it took a reboot to resolve the video player issue.
Since today, whenever I watch a video on twitch/YouTube (Pop Up enabled on both), the app sometimes just minimizes and goes back to where I was before. Leaving me with the pop up player of twitch/youtube.
It happens every 3-4 minutes and I do't have any idea why it's happening.
Any help here? Thanks!
