Sounds sketchy...
He was asking $375 but said it was negotiable because it didn't include anything but the phone. Would it be recommended to use any micro usb charger or is there one specifically built for this phone?

Why not box or charger? Because it's probably stolen.

i can only agree with fellow XDA member.
if you buy new device (high end) you will defon keep the box... maybe the charger can kinda get lost (in work, school, or something) but defo not the box... and the price he is sellling it at is not a "steal"... so save few more bucks bro and get your hands on brand new boxed nexie.
take care...
My friend just bought a Black 32GB just the phone and cable, no box or charger, for 300$ of CL here in the Seattle area, he just made sure he checked the IMEI using Swappa.com (they have a free IMEI/ESN checker, be careful with other sites that claim to check IMEI/ESN's for you, cause some of those are just phishing for these numbers, and once you put them in, they will tell you its ok, but then copy the number themselves and use it for cloning devices, or for changing the IMEI on a blacklisted phone, to the white-listed IMEI you gave them. Also once you use a legit IMEI checker, call your service provider and tell them you are purchasing this right now and have the dude talk to them to verify this, you could also call whatever provider he was using, if any, so that way there's record of him selling. or you could just meet at one of your service providers stores. If they aren't willing to do that, and are absolutely set on not meeting there, then yea, somethings up. But I would at least try the approach I suggested cause you may end up getting a very good deal, and if not, then you didn't lose anything cause you took steps to ensure your protection, so no harm no foul.
AND NEVER GO ALONE ! Guy or Girl. I am 27, 6'3", ex-military, and a Guitarist who is well known in the local scene so most people in the area know me, but I still don't do CL deals by myself. I even have my CHL and carry either a Glock 19 Gen 2, or a FNH FNP Tactical .45 (not always, but sometimes, I am an opencarry adovacate, but i wont get into that here lol), and still dont go alone, can't stress that one enough. a dear friend of mine was raped in Tacoma, WA while trying to buy a crib for her daughter and i wish everyday that she woulda called me or one of our friends to go with...
The final bit of advice I can give, is trust your gut. Sounds cliche, but its true. If you feel like somethings off, it prolly is, and even if it isn't, is your life, or overall well-being, worth getting less then 100$ off on a phone, ya dig.
Not sure I agree with the people who say if you don't have a box, its probably stolen. I sold a phone without a box because when I bought it, the person at the t-mobile store told me that I would get a $10 bill credit if I let them recycle the box. Sounded sketchy to me, but I did actually get the credit.
And running the IMEI through swaapa just proves that it hasn't been marked as stolen YET. The seller could stop paying payments (if they have tmo) and the IMEI gets blacklisted then.

No go people. It's not about being stolen, I've had my phone stolen before and I needed to send my box and service agreement into Asurion. It could be that he has the box and may sell it but then report it stolen after the fact. I've done business on craigslist plenty of times and actually learned this the hard way about a year ago when I bought a Nexus 4 blacklisted from T-Mobile about 3 days after I bought it and was working. Always get the box with the IMEI sticker still attached when buying phones on craigslist, in most cases your better off than not.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I read a post on HoFo today that said HTC is now equipped to sell original accessories for the Nexus One including the original Android sleeve that ships with the phone.
If you want to give it a shot, the number to HTC's accessory sales department is 1-888-716-3594. I tried calling them today, but they were already closed. I'd call again tomorrow, but I work during their same business hours. For those interested please post if you find out whether or not we can order replacement sleeves instead of haggling with other XDA members for each others.
I called to price out a replacement battery and they took my info and said they would either email or call me with pricing information and could take my order at that point.
What are the chances they're selling the mythical car dock?
(I'm kidding, I assume we'd have heard about it from Google if it was ready).

I would love to hear the prices, if anyone gets any information at all, please share
Just got off the phone with them. I asked if they carried the stock Nexus One sleeve, he asked if I needed one sent out to me. He asked for my IMEI number, confirmed my address, and said he would send one right out. No charge. I also asked if they carry any other Nexus One accessories and was told only the other original accessories that come with the Nexus. The entire conversation lasted 3 minutes.

oh yeah! i didnt go for the sleeve, i asked for a new pair of headphones! my left earpiece was yanked off at work last week..
first rep. denied my request coz i told her it was my fault my left earpiece came off. DAMN IT!!!! i hate being so honest!
the next day i called again and told the other rep. my headset was defective. THIS TIME I LIED! the rep then processed my request and sent me a new pair. FOR FREE
im not tryin to scam htc or anything, i was ready to buy the stock headphones i like how i can skip rewind play and pause my music with the stock headphones and i think the sound quality was alright. BUT HEY IF THEY ARE GIVING THEM FOR FREE ILL TAKE IT ANYTIME OF THE DAY!
its weird they are not selling them but rather give them to nexus one owners.

What do you mean you were ready to buy??? You just admitted you called in, and chose to lie, to trick them into thinking it was a warranty replacement and send it in for free just so you could save a few dollars on your $500 phone... wow.... what a new level of low.... congratulations to you... I guess my feeling is pitty?
And just for the record, THEY ARE NOT GIVING IT FOR FREE... if it is a factory deffect with yours, then you are entitled to a replacement/fix... it isnt that they are choosing some people, based on what you tell them, to get a free pair...
What happens is that because of ppl abusing the system (i.e. like you) these companies get fed up and make crappy obstacles that genuine users with genuine problems need to jump through in order to get genuine support...

His earbuds were BROKEN and they wouldn't replace them knowing he did it so he didn't have much of a choice but to tell them it was a factory defect...It's one thing if you truly broke them and it your just getting them to get them..
Frankly if the guy's willing to buy them but unable to, which is the case right now, I agree with his "white lie" approach. It's not like he's trying to get a second set as a backup or something... i.e. he's not abusing anything here.
like i said i did not go for the sleeve. i have my sleeve my earphone on the other hand broke. so i was gonna BUY a pair but the rep said they DONT sell them IDK why but if it was defective they will send out a pair.
i like the stock headphones. mine broke and i was looking to buy a pair.
how the hell did i abuse htc? coz i lied? i didnt mind paying for headphones but this is the only option to get the stock headphones. call htc and try to buy one they will tell you what they told me. they dont sell them right now. and there is no way of buying one. its not my fault if they are too slow with providing accessories for sale.
i was just sharing my experience with costumer support. and if you got the wrong ideas then you got problems buddy.

Called HTC a week ago asking if they were selling any factory oem batteries & sleeves yet... they took my IMEI number and said they'd get back to me...
Never heard from them but 5 days later a brand new factory oem battery and sleeve was sitting in my mailbox!
+1 for HTC customer service!
HTC is pretty cool, just called cause my sister wanted a sleeve for her phone. Asked if they were selling, the rep asked if I had lost it, told him nope. They still sent it out for free.
+1 HTC
just called up, said if i lost mine he could send a new one, told him i did, hes sending a new one.....he said if i needed to purchase another to call customer care, also asked about battery he said buy from google.com/phone
I know I messed up by not getting the 5 dollar insurance. I sure am pissed of at myself now. To make matters worse I purchased my triumph on Ebay. lol. Does any cellphone repair store deal with these phones already, I might have to check sometime this week But is there any website where maybe I can purchase a gorilla glass screen replacement. I would gladly take on the repair challenge myself. Thanks everyone! Hopefully someone can help and I would greatly appreciate it!
(Edit) A nice VM chick allowed me to get it insured, surprisingly I still had time. If anyone wants to ill open it up for sure when I receive my new one.... for science!!!
Not to rub salt in the wound but I seen a bigger screen and figured I'd be the first one to break it so I got the insurance. I got mine from Best Buy. Might be a dumb question but will VM warranty it?
I believe BB only warrants the phone usually for 30 days, I'm not to sure. Regarding VM as soon as you sign up, you often receive a text that lets you add on insurance for 5 extra dollars. GET IT!! Because as of now my best hope is to just go to a random repair shop and see if they can even fix it.

http://imgur.com/a/fMIeG Here ya go! Basically the touchscreen still functioned but about 80% of the top screen was not working at all. Then the battery died and it did not want to take a charge anymore. Basically both issues are unrelated it just so happens that Motorola really rushed this thing, and you can tell what a terrible job they did looking at the whole sub-forum. I wish I would have avoided spending 300 bucks and would have grabbed the Optimus V instead, I never hear anything bad about it. And being a college student I cant afford a 100$ monthly plan.

I thought I read somewhere that VM warrants their phones for a year, no matter where you buy them. I could be wrong, and it could be for manufacturer's defects only. I'll look for the link when I get home.

From the VM site:

One-Year Warranty
All mobile phones purchased directly from Virgin Mobile, or one of our authorized resellers, include a one-year warranty from the original equipment manufacturer. If you experience an equipment malfunction, call Virgin Mobile At Your Service at 1-888-322-1122 and we will arrange for a replacement mobile phone.
I seriously doubt that would cover a cracked lcd screen. But I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

Ouch that really sucks man
Well if all else fails you can always try and repair it your self.
It might cost a bit since some of the newer phones are coming with the lcd and the glass as one unit...
I might be wrong and only need to purchase the glass...
Good luck and hope you well

Hi all,
Long story short, I was tricked today to buy an infuse 4G telling me that everything was working perfectly. Had it shipped, and of course, it doesn't read any SIM card. I'm brand new to android, so I have no idea what's going on.
I tried calling AT&T customer support and of course they couldn't help. I finally found out that the build version is Infused v2.1.0 and the firmware is 2.3.3
I just read that Infused v.2.1.0 is a custom rom, so I'm wondering how I can go back to the stock version and see if I can get a SIM card to be read in this phone.
PLEASE if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks. But I think I may have found an even worse problem.
Can someone take a look in the SIM tray and tell me how many pins there are? My BlackBerry has 4, and from the looks of it, it looks like this infuse has 3, but 1 of the pins is missing.
I wish I could take a clear picture of it, but it's near impossible to see. Can anyone with an infuse confirm what theirs looks like?

They should be 6;(3 in front of another 3; Meaning: 3 slightly visible from the metal, and 3 under the metal cover that holds the SIM card on place)
If you bought it via ebay or for that matter anything with Paypal in the middle, you have 45 days from the purchase day to enter a dispute. If you pay cash to a guy you will never see... then your probably screwed... i have heard of "sim" adapters like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-2-1-GSM...764414?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3a69e5b2fe
that could "probably" fix that.... or probably not since the adapter also needs the full working pins.... anyways... i recommend (if payed via paypal) to enter a dispute provide full information and make sure the add didnt mentioned anything about " NOT WORKING Sim tray" because if the advertisement of the phone just SLIGHTLY mentioned its your problem... but if it was advertised as WORKING then your complain will proceed.
I hope you can solve it man.
Good Luck
Thanks for the response. Met up locally and paid cash.
He left a picture of himself on the phone hahaha. Anything I can do with that? Selling shady material? I don't know what to do now! Cash is not king
Since you paid cash you don't have much in the way of recourse since you know about the guy, I assume.
You could pursue via small claims, check the local authorities, maybe this person is a known thief; but, I would let this be a lesson on verifying that something is fully functional before paying someone cash for anything. Sorry, I know it sucks. =-(
What I thought was, I'd become one of those deaf-mutes; or should I?
I've been hosed from a dude who sold me an atv that was a pile of shiz, so I know how you feel. Id contact him and see what he'll do for you, I'm sure he will tell you it was fine when he sold it, than id talk to the authorities, if all else fail than id have it repaired from samsung.

Caveat emptor at it's finest right here.
In your first post, you said you had it shipped. Then, in another post, you said you met up locally and paid cash. So which was it?
Either way, hopefully you didn't pay too terribly much for the phone, since you can generally find it brand new for under $100.
The only real chance you have at a remedy here is to call the seller back and hope he has a heart, or that this was just some misunderstanding.
In our credit driven economy, I always find it suspicious when people demand cash. I'm sure you learned your lesson, and hopefully it wasn't too costly.
Thanks for your contributions:
Called him/been texting with him this morning saying "I already spent the money" lol. Long story short, it is what it is. I've sold this guy my iPhone before and so I asked for my iPhone back instead. Of course, that's been sold as well. Well I have my iphone imei on file, so could very well just report it as stolen since this guy is unwilling to comply. Don't really have many options.
Sorry if this is off, because I dont know if u can install a rom if the phone is locked. But if the phone is locked it will not read a sim card. And depending on the sim card itself. It will not read any prr paid sim except tmobile and only att if it is not a gophone sim card

real nice... file a false police report because you werent smart enough to check the sim before giving him the money.
Long story short.. I sold a phone on eBay with the original box. However, the phone was replaced twice due to sleep death issues. So it turns out that the phone I had sold IMEI number was different then that of the original sticker on the box. This is normal as when you replace a phone, they don't send you a whole new box, they just give you a new phone.
So my question is.. why would a buyer make a big deal about the box's IMEI number not matching the phone's IMEI number? I can only think that he's trying to re-sell it somehow to make a profit, but can't because the numbers don't match.
His reason is "because customs won't allow phones into Europe without the original box with IMEI numbers matching". Riiiiiiight
Anyone care to speculate? Thanks.
So basically, the buyer is saying customs will take apart the packaging to check the IMEI, and take the phone out to check the IMEI on the back of it? Plus, what about phones that weren't shipped with their original boxes?
The buyer is obviously lying/bsing.

Exactly. He said he was speaking with the airport and they would charge $30-$40 dollars to get some "copies" of proof of ownership so he wants to be compensated for this in a partial refund. When I asked him for the number to this airport so I could verify this obvious bs story myself.. he all of a sudden had to ask his friend for the number and would get back to me. And still hasn't 5 hours later.
Obviously, he's trying to do something dodgy here and wants to be compensated $30-40 for something that he screwed up on by not making sure the IMEI numbers match beforehand. I just can't figure out what.
if i were the buyer, and all that's true, i'd be saying to myself, 'dang i guess i shoulda checked on this intl shipping stuff first..."
just my own thoughts on the matter though...
i wouldnt expect every seller, especially a person, selling his own phone to know every countries or airports shipping procedures...
Since you said Ebay: I take it this is outside the return period (if you had one/stated no returns). Assuming the buyer is reputable himself: I'd ask for documented proof. Paypal would require this as well so you're just saying him the time before Paypal asks him the same thing. Cause yeah: this is sketchy.

Very true, although I don't claim to be an expert on such matters.. from what I understand.. customs doesn't actually open and physically inspect packages unless there's something really abnormal/illegal looking on the package. Imagine if customs actually physically inspected every single package that went through Europe on a daily basis. Not at all plausible.
But that really doesn't even matter in this case as he stated that he, himself, was going to Europe with the phone which made this all so much more bs-worthy.

I did state no returns and yeah I was going to ask him for proof.. but I figured it would be needed anyway if he files a dispute, so I just left that be. I just told him that I'm sorry he didn't verify this all before purchasing as if it was that critical to the sale, he should have made sure before purchasing. I also told him that I could not help any further as the phone works exactly as it should and his only problem is mis-matched IMEI numbers. Definitely sketchy.

this was a US to US transaction? i thought you shipped overseas... he doesn't have a leg to stand on... no part of your transaction said anything about what you do with it afterwards... or i warranty this, yada yada... it was no returns... i would imagine your sale outlined the phone in its condition... like you said, he should've inquired about that... he's taking it with him??? tell him throw the [email protected] box away....

Hahaha.. exactly my thoughts. XD And yes, US to US transaction. Then all of a sudden 2 weeks later he needs the original box to match the phone so he can bring it to Europe with him as a gift. Smh. People will make anything up when they screw up instead of just admitting they made a mistake. Oh well heh.

Unfortunately, eBay and PayPal always side with the buyer. Even if there is a stated "no returns" policy. To make everything supposedly even, they will tell him to ship it back to you, and you will have to refund the original price plus original shipping. You will both be out a little bit. Due to you already paying once for shipping, and him for having to pay to send it back.

Did you get any receipts or paperwork for the replacements. This may be enough if you can send him those as proof.

People have gotten around this. All the buyer has to do is do a chargeback on their CC. Dirty business.

Moving to Q&A
A friend of mine keeps asking whether he should buy a new note5, and then after a week return it but with a different note 5 still in new condition in the box. I keep telling him that he can't beat the system, and T-Mobile will smack his tushi the moment it realizes what he did. But he won't listen, so now I made this thread to see what you guys say. I personally never see employees check the imei on returns, but that's just me.

Haven't you guys heard about IMEI numbers yet? LOL
That's the first thing Tmoble checks to make sure its
the same as the original purchased phone's IMEI...
They do that not only to prevent fraud but but it's the
law regarding refunds, exchanges and repair.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

I'd say go about your business, and don't think about it anymore. You did what you could, and he's a grown man. If he wants to play around with karma, stand back and let him.

I'm just going to weigh in my two cents first of all when a phone is purchased the imei is scanned and allows it to be used on the network once a return happens that same imei is scanned maybe it's not physically scanned it may just be auto filled from the receipt but the new phone will stop working and won't be activated because it was "returned" tell your friend to no try and scam companies like that they're not stupid and returns are done a certain way for this very reason and if he is caught he could face trouble with the law just be honest and tell him to buy a new phone and stick with it.

I hope this isn't one of those scenarios where the friend is really you. First off, why buy a new one when he already has a like new one? If it's a T-Mobile note 5, unless it's blocked for non payment or something the phones still under manufacturer warranty and T-Mobile will exchange it. The whole story sounds a bit fishy to me tbh.
