[Q] Cracked Screen Repair - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently cracked my nexus 5 screen and I'm thinking about sending it to US lg (from here in Canada) for screen repair. Has anyone been in a similar situation and what's the best way to handle this?

Iv seen a few threads on this. Lg should charge about $150 USD the LCD and glass are fuzed together so you will need to replace the entire front panel. The part costs 100-150. If you are lucky you'll find it for 100 bucks. Its very easy to replace it yourself. But to have it replaced for $150 by the manufacturer is a no brainer for now. That is for the next for months. The cost of this part will go down for sure. I predict around 80-100 by may.

I had the screen on my Nexus 4 repaired through LG. It cost me $140 and they just sent me a new device. Took about a week from the time I sent it till I got my new one.

I have been waiting for the Nexus 7 screen+digitizer cost to go down for over 6-7 months now - no luck yet. I'm not sure the Nexus 5 will be any different. If it does, great, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

[Q] What is My NS worth?

Hi all,
I am contemplating putting my NS up for sale. Not sure what I can sell it for though. Ebay is all over the map.
Here is what I have:
Unlocked Rooted ATT version I9020A, black color
Wall plug wire
Limited Edition back cover, real not knockoff.
Samsung windshield holder with 3' cigarette lighter wire
Samsung desktop with USB/wall plug wire.
Amzer soft cover
This is the NS that I list on my sig.
What should I ask for this package, and what should I settle on?
Thanks
Heeter

If even $200. Sorry to tell you, but with the Galaxy Nexus out, the Nexus S isn't really the hottest stuff on the block.
Thanks all,

In Greece is still at the stores. You can buy ona 9023 (slcd) with 200 euros.
So i guess that a used 9020 (amoled) could be sold at 140 euros...

Koodo Mobile used to sell a NEW Nexus S (before it was discontinued) at $300, and their One V is currently selling for $175 outright.
With that in mind, even $200 is a little much. Maybe $150?
Hey just to be sure I didn't get screwed over.
Was my i9023 worth 260€ back in December? Do prices really drop so quickly?
I searched quite some time to find the cheapest one. It was also new and not used by someone else.
Cosmetic condition will influence the resale price. If you have a perfect screen with no scratches, and no scratches on the body, it should go for more. I wouldn't sell it for less than $150-$170, in decent condition, especially with the accessories/cover. Throw it on CL for $200, take some nice pics, write a thrilling ad, and see what happens.
... or keep it and use it as a dedicated "ipod/ipod touch".
Keep it and use it as a developers phone for porting roms

I see them all day long for around 100 bucks on CL. They are still great phones, but the the general public, they are outdated.

Yeah its pretty crazy how much our phones have dropped in price. I would say about 6 months ago when ICS came out they were easily selling on Craigslist for $300. Now people are lucky to sell em for $150-200. I wonder if we'll see an increase in price again when JB officially comes. People tend to want the "new thing".

Sweetspot would be 230-250 euro if its in mint condition anything over that would be a hit and miss might take too long to sell, but depends on your location and where you will advertise it.
Thanks for the info guys

I'll give you $40 Tax free! (that was a joke)
Looks like you'll get no more than $200 US for it if your lucky.
There is one on ebay right now with only a day left going for $10.
But if you want to sell.. Don't wait longer, they are not going to go up in price.
Good luck!

[Q] 32GB Nexus 5 with hairline crack

Someone is willing to sell me that for $250. Is that a good Deal? Zoom in a little to see the cracks better.

Is $250 their original asking price or did you haggle with them a bit? Does the phone come with box and all the original accessories? What's the condition other than the crack?

I think that depends on you. Can you live with the crack? Does it bother you? Only you can decide.
A new 32 GB Nexus 5 is $400, so you have to ask yourself is the crack worth saving $150.

It is not a good deal. LG charges about $150 to fix the screen such as this, leaving you with the exact same cost as buying a new one yourself.
Cracks in the screen can only get worse over time. I would maybe pay $150 for it if I was prepared to fix the screen myself for around $125.

As someone said, you do have to keep in mind that the crack can get worst if you drop the phone hard enough. If you baby your phone and don't mind the annoyance of the hairline crack then I'd say do it for $200 cash and not $250. To me $200 cash is a good price.

The insides might be damaged as well beyond the crack.

Thanks! I'll let you know if I'm able to negotiate it down to 200 and if I end up buying.

In the end its worth exactly how much you're willing to pay. But I personally wouldn't buy it with a crack like that.

Haven't bought it yet, dunno how you would do that when you buy a phone from a random guy.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Personally, wouldn't do it. Too much for something that could possibly crack even more due to existing hair size cracks. Depends on the amount you can spend versus if its worth it to you.

Like when buying a used car, you get a mechanic to check it out first. In this case, meet the seller at a cell phone repair shop, should cost no more than $5-10 for the inspection.

Hmm yea, would applying a screen protector risk cracking it more since the pressure applied during Application?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It might but usually very delicate with applying. It's all based on you and how you apply. But yes, more pressure might hurt.

Nothing hurts resale value like a cracked screen. I wouldn't pay any more than 150-175 max.

Best Verizon phone for under $300?

OK I have had my LG G2 since last November and well I like it but have a problem. I have managed to crack the screen twice and don't know If I want to replace it again... Seen them selling for around $250 on eBay with cracked screens so iknow I could get that much for it. But is it better to replace it again.
Are there any good phones that I could use for verizon that would be under $300. I wish that the nexus 5 worked on verizon.

Lg Repair Rip Off?

Anyone know why is Lg charging me this much for a screen repair? I will call in the morning but that is ridiculous for that price. All I want is a screen repair.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
That price is pretty normal in Denmark. Here its usually cheaper to buy a new smartphone, than getting it fixed. Its only iPhone that is cheap because so many unauthorized store use cheap China spare parts

I'm not passing any judgment on you so don't get offended, but my guess is they figure since you took a drill to it, either a. they think you don't care about the money or b. you're an idiot and will pay without questioning.
But from the pictures, it wouldn't surprise me if it's not just the screen.
good luck!
It should be just the screen because I replaced it with an eBay one but the screen wasn't a original. It kinda work with the eBay one but it didn't. I sent it back and I'm guessing it was the screen. Everything in it is not damage and I live is the united States by the way.
Edit: Can anyone link me to an OEM screen ? On eBay or Amazon only

I'd get a new phone. As hinted already....you'd be lucky if the only thing wrong is the screen. Probably more damage than that. I wouldn't potentially waste money on trying to fix it.....only to discover there's other problems too.
