No I have it in my Beanstalk rom? That amoled is a excuse to me it uses more battery yes but the feature is amazing

IPS technology displays will never support this. IPS always using backlight that is draining battety a lot. AMOLED technology isnt use backlight so they can show few pixels and it is not draining battery that dramatically.

Can you post a screenshot of how much battery is used when an active notification is left on for an hour or more?

is that even legit? Hahaha afaik, only amoled can do this type of work efficiently because only the individual pixels that is used in that notification font is using power and each pixels act as an individual LED, while the other remain in "off" state. Other display tech implement a row/column of light from the lcd periphery to shine throughout the whole display. Requiring more power and shining through all those unused black pixels making it less efficient.

confused as to why you are focusing so much on battery efficiency. the question was if we had it. We have that. Either in app form with Dynamic Notification, or baked into a ROM with Beanstalk.

Just so that the OP would be clear of the drawback if the feature were baked into a rom or app. I never try it honestly, but if it does it, wonder will it ever come close to battery life like on moto x which the display tech support natively.

I haven't had any noticeable battery decrease while using Dynamic Notification.
I think about it more like this. If you have one blinking notification light, you have to turn the screen on to check it. that means your screen has to turn on the back light + light up all the pixels with color depending on the wallpaper. with Dynamic Notification. I only see a small number pixels and a black background for maybe 3 seconds before I dismiss the notification. Read it. done with it. that saves both time and battery life. I haven't done any real comparisons between turning on the screen to see messages or using this app, but I can still get 2-3 days of use out of the phone with it, so I'd say get it.

I don't think anyone really even said it wasn't possible, so this patting-own-back stuff comes off a little forced.

Just found this on pocketables, there is a hidden power saver menu that allows us to adjust a bunch of stuff to save some juice. Some of the options don't seem to do anything but I'm thinking it's because there is a percentage threshold where it kicks in at. Anyway, download QuickShortcutMaker from the play store and scroll down until you find power saver settings, or just type power into the filter box and it will pop up. Doing that adds a shortcut to your homescreen to access the hidden menu. Play around with it, see if it helps you gain some more battery life.

I see most of them were already checked. Does that mean invoking this just put those defaults on or they were always ON and there isn't much we can do about those.
Pretty sure they were already on. The reduce cpu and framerate were also checked but I unchecked those. I really think this stuff only kicks on when your phone goes into power saving mode, ie. when it's at 15% or whatever it may be.
Why the hell would they hide those? Tricky little suckers. LOL

No clue, I have noticed no immediate results. As I said before, I don't think any of it kicks in until power saving mode turns on when your battery is low.
I added a comment there, but will here also:
Sorry to burst your bubbles- Changing the settings has had no effect at all on my stock unrooted AT&T HTC One X, which I'm sure is why it's hidden.
The brightness doesn't return back to the User's set preference after snapping a photo despite what the level says, once you move it, it readjusts back to what the value would be if you had done so before.
I plan on logging the bug and posting it back here for you all - I've already sent it to liquid.
Bug Logged here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4Eao7Q0SnuLWFp6NlRUUG5wMEk
Also, Liquid thinks that the bug is related to either a Camera Wrapper Hal Limitation or a bug in CM.

Correct, it will show the same level in the brightness adjustment bar, but the brightness itself will be brighter until I move the brightness adjustment bar from left to right then it readjusts to what that brightness level was originally.
Do you follow me?
Say I set the brightness bar at 25% okay, then I take a photo and the brightness gets brighter than the originally set 25%, but the brightness bar is still set at 25%, so I have a false display of what my real brightness level is, it could be really set at 40%, so I move the brightness bar a bit to calibrate it, and then the screen dims back down to what was originally the 25%.

Light sensors detect the surrounding light levels through a sensor on your phone. For example: if your outside it will detect bright levels and will automatically raise your backlight levels making visibility better. You can tweak these settings by hitting : System settings, display, automatic backlight , check Use custom, then edit other levels. ....
And no, there not associated with camera brightness. Camera has its own settings for that.

Who's Keith?? Haha Just compare mine to default settings on yours. I only changed the first 5 down under screen. That's how I learned . Its great once you gain control. You'll see a massive difference in screen brightness. And its great because this is one of the main factors in battery life. And although I changed those settings, I still keep auto brightness checked under brightness, under display. Their just tweaked.

You have a terrible signal...
I'm confused as to why people are treating this as a bad thing.
Go buy an iPhone if you want your hardware limited.
I suspected as much. Doesn't give the text on mine, but the throttle is most certainly there. It's bloody annoying.
On, off, on, off, on off... This thing should come with an epilepsy warning. Fine, I'll just keep it at 99.9%, then. Marvellous solution there Samsung/Google.

Thermal throttling is an amazing thing. It allows you to have as much performance as possible without damaging the hardware.
Apple sets their maximum performance very low so as to never need to throttle. If you want your N3 never to need to throttle, turn the settings down.
And this is a bad thing... because? It's to avoid hardware damage

I am going to buy a note 3 , have a mega 6.3 , and in the mega foruns here on xda this issue have been discussed exhaustively. As it seems some units do this others don't have tryed mine to do it/ display this message , setting brighteness to the max , and paying asphalt 8 for more than a hour straight , I did get the device to warm quite a bit , but no display throttling whatsoever, just hope I have the same luck with my note 3

for me the problem is that the thermal throttling kicks in (or, better described: on off on off on off) even at
minimum brightness levels, so i doubt it has any thermal impact on these low levels. there it's only annoying, nothing more!
it would make more sense if the thermal throttling of the display only activates over some brightness level, where the reduction HAS an impact on the thermal situation!
but this are just my 2 cents...
I really don't think these measures are put in for sh*ts and giggles but yeah you only paid $700+ who cares if by preventing this it'll cut down the life span of the phone or help reduce screen burnin

Tapatalk is retarded when it comes to attachments.
Thermal throttling is good to avoid damage to hardware.
And for your own health, is advise don't use 100% brightness, this is way too bright, it will eventually slowly damage your eye.
I had no idea how could you stand 100% brightness, don't you think it is over kill bright?
Just received my 16GB from Tesco here in the UK. In my initial checks I found there's quite a bit of backlight bleed across the top of the display and about 1-1.5cm down either side. It's not the worst I've ever seen but it ain't great either. Not sure whether to return or live with it. I might see if I can get a shot of it to post on here.
Do other people have the same problem?

Wow - my Moto G's screen definitely does not have as much bleed as that. Nowhere near! And I can only see one of the mount points at extreme angles (way higher than any usable angles). The effects might be exaggerated by the photos I guess? Is it the same with bare eyes? I would take some photos of mine but I don't have another camera...

With my bleed, do you reckon I should return it?

The mount point I start to see at approximately 35 degrees, below is new images illustrating the "problem":
35°
45°
85°

I can't speak for the average quality of the screens on different Moto Gs, so it's hard to say. If you got it from a shop, maybe you could consider taking it in and asking to compare to some other Moto Gs because you're concerned about it?
Maybe I am lucky and got one with an excellent quality screen or something?!

Yep, that looks a bit irritating. I definitely don't see anything like that at around 35-45°... The most I can see is a vaguely darker area, pretty much only visible on full brightness.
I have almost no bleeding at all, just sayin'
I've arranged a return. On searching I did find this thread with a similar experience of bleed (although no pic) http://www.modaco.com/topic/366801-backlight-bleed/
I also noticed a very slight flaw/nick in the glossy plastic surrounding the screen. That plastic is a little soft so I'm wondering about the durability of the phone in the longer term.
Anyway I'm not getting a replacement right now, I'm going to sit back and see if these issues are prevalent and then decide whether to get another.
Any QA issue would raise it. This is how manufacturers learn and improve

I can see some backlight bleed, but it's not all that bad at all, and I had to use a black image to really notice it. It's mostly in the top left corner, for some reason..
Hey all. Just wondering if anyone else is using lux to manage brightness. Here is a screenshot of my current settings. Please share yours.

Been using lux for almost a year now but I don't have my G3 yet. I'll post my settings when I get it.
Been using lux since the day the app was released. Not sure I have mine tuned on the g3 yet (had d855 since release day)

What is the advantage to using this, I've never heard of it

Stock auto brightness can be too dim/bright at times. This allows you to tweak the auto brightness to your liking.
Thanks for this app. It's awesome! Stock auto brightness was way too dim. This is perfection!

You can customize what brightness levels your screen automatically sets for a given ambient light level (for example by default my screen is too bright at night or too dim during the day). But there are a lot more features than that there's a "Night Mode" which will adjust your screen color temperature to a warmer color temp at night (studies have shown exposure to blue light at night can mess with your circadian rhythm and ruin your sleep. There's also an "Astronomer mode" that puts a red overlay on your screen to preserve your night vision.

It also allows you to go lower than the lowest stock brightness (might require root?). I've found on many phones that the lowest brightness is still way too bright for certain environments.
Here are my current settings, it's going to take a while before I have then perfected but this is a start.

Sadly, quickcircle case breaks lux because it thinks its pitch black out.

It won't break it? It will just mean that it won't adjust brightness properly when you are using the QuickCircle mode, it should start to work the second you open the case.

Its pretty broken.. Quickcircle becomes 100% useless and when you open the case it takes a second or two for brightness to adapt. its annoying and unnecessary. Not worth having the app if you have the case.

You can adjust the time that it responds to change, by default its set pretty high, I have lowered mine right down - its in the "brightness" setting.
Does this app impact battery life much?
Any bugs as reviews on Play store aren't great
just got paid version very nice app thanks
I bought this app but have since uninstalled it cause I find that the stock auto brightness does a pretty good job.

The broke part is not the time to live again, it is the simple fact that the clock or whatever widget is in the circle is black. To be specific the circle information needs to be on/displayed when the case is closed. I have had paid Lux across 3 phones and love it. Smart Window on Oppo works fine with Lux. Hope it can be fixed on G3.

I now have the case and see the issue, a workaround is to quickly open the case and close it again brightening it up.
I cannot see how it can be fixed though, the issue is the light sensor is being covered so it's keeping the display dark.
I suppose via a special setting we could set a default value for 0 lux?
Edit: I just emailed the Dev to see if there is anything he can do to help us.
