PSA- Hidden power saver settings menu - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Just found this on pocketables, there is a hidden power saver menu that allows us to adjust a bunch of stuff to save some juice. Some of the options don't seem to do anything but I'm thinking it's because there is a percentage threshold where it kicks in at. Anyway, download QuickShortcutMaker from the play store and scroll down until you find power saver settings, or just type power into the filter box and it will pop up. Doing that adds a shortcut to your homescreen to access the hidden menu. Play around with it, see if it helps you gain some more battery life.

I see most of them were already checked. Does that mean invoking this just put those defaults on or they were always ON and there isn't much we can do about those.

Pretty sure they were already on. The reduce cpu and framerate were also checked but I unchecked those. I really think this stuff only kicks on when your phone goes into power saving mode, ie. when it's at 15% or whatever it may be.

Why the hell would they hide those? Tricky little suckers. LOL

You're probably looking at 3 1/2 hours screen time and over a day and a half of juice. I'd say that's pretty good.

Agreed! That's way better than I've ever seen. I'd like to see a screenshot that show how the cell signal was too. I'm sure my battery life would be better if my cell strength was better. I don't even get yellow throughout the day, it's mostly that puke brown color.

No clue, I have noticed no immediate results. As I said before, I don't think any of it kicks in until power saving mode turns on when your battery is low.

I added a comment there, but will here also:
Sorry to burst your bubbles- Changing the settings has had no effect at all on my stock unrooted AT&T HTC One X, which I'm sure is why it's hidden.

New personal battery whore record

It's well known I like to be a battery whore, my previous record was a little over 48 hours on a full charge with my Infuse. Today I beat my old record by about....20 hrs!
All notifications off except Gmail. 3g data turned off for about 80% of the time. Wifi on but set to turn off when phone sleeps. I did use the phone, text, talk, surf, etc. Probably would be considered light usage though.

Yea no offense when people give battery stats they give them when they've actually used their phone. Of course a battery will last longer if it's not being used or if no notifications are actually being used. Those are what eat the battery

I never use notifications, never will. This is my normal usage pattern. As I said in the OP, I do use the phone.
Get rooted and remove blot wear
Best way in some sense to get great battery life is get rooted, use Excellent Roms that removes all bloatware and find any apps that are continually running in background and remove them. (Tip) Get titanium backup and backup your apps then remove them but if you need later then reinstall them for future use. Just a few things to mention, so much more to add to save battery. I suggest you just use your phone and try and save in other ways that will extend you daily use.
How much screen on time? That's generally the best measure of battery life, because if your screen isn't on, you're not really using your phone. And a percent usage tells nothing.
My infuse is currently going on 12 days, 14 hours, 16 minutes, 7 seconds since last unplugged with 1 hour 28 minutes of screen on time. That being said, it's because I use it purely as a backup alarm clock without a sim card now that I have my Note, haha. And no, I'm not going to go to the hassle of rooting, downloading a screenshot app, then waiting another 12-14 days to prove it. Just goes to show that battery life doesn't mean much without usage.
Was it with a stock battery

For CRT off, it will have to be enabled through a custom ROM. I don't believe there is a setting for it currently in Sense 4.0 (could be wrong though).
For custom notifications, extract any sounds to the media folder when you plug your phone into your computer.
Here's a pack of 640 Notification sounds / ringtones from OEMs
Hmm, too bad on the CRT off animation. Thanks for the notification tip.
Also, after you install a 3rd party keyboard (in my case the ICS keyboard) how do you enable it? I dont see anywhere to enable that one and disable the HTC keyboard.

I'll be including it with an advanced power menu in the near future.
It's done by editing the smali in android.policy.jar
When its done, you can just cut and paste it to the /system/framework/ folder and then restart (with fastboot power option turned off of course).

Nice! After having that damn iPhone I got so used to plugging in my phone whenever I am near a charger...I get paranoid whenever it drops below 90% lol. I gotta drop that habit and actually test out what kinda battery life I can get with this thing.
Wow the moment I have LTE on... I barely get 10hrs of usage. (Mind you I'm on it all the time and constantly)...
So it's not bad. But will see what happens with LTE off.
Managed to stay off charger for over 3 days 4 hours this weekend, before the phone died earlier today.
Just a little over 2 hours screen time. No LTE. The rapid dip was when I was playing Shadowgun yesterday.

Battery

Hey All,
I've decided to do a battery test for my HOX, my battery seems to drop quickly when being used for just texting. So I'm at 100% right now and I'm gonna let it drain out to 1% and see how my battery life differs. I then will decide whether I will or not undervolt my device.
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
You should turn off auto brightnes and set the brightness to 30%. Undervolting makes very little impact on battery life.
Sent from my HTC One XL
Thank you, and I see that. My phone has already been undervolted by 25% at first it was great but now it's just like well not good lol
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
So far... so good... So what... Haha that's one of my favorite Megadeth albums ;p but yeah it looks okay, its taken me an hour to go from 100% to 90% so I'm just waiting to see how long it'll take to get from 90% to 80%
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
You probably undervolted by 25mV not 25% right? You wont notice any significant difference based on that change. I've tried almost every ROM and as I've told you previously viperxl and elementalx have consistently given me the best battery life of any ROM and Kernel combo. Plus I'm addicted to the red venom glow and I go through withdrawal everytime it goes away!
Yeah I meant 25m lol, and I'm a bit nervous to flash a viper Rom.... I see where there are problems, like they post links to fix problems. I see me flashing the joker jelly bean sense 4.1-4.+ Rom in the near future.... I'll let you know how that one goes?
Sent from Megadoug13's nuclear device
It literally takes 5 minutes to backup your current setup and five minutes to flash a new Rom. You could try any out and restore a backup and its like 15 minutes per Rom if you didn't like it right away. Trust me and try them all it won't hurt anything and you can go back if you change your mind like it never happened.
Sent from my HTC One XL
I know, my friend is trying to develope roms for the vivid (my old phone) and I don't want to risk not having a phone if something goes wrong. Just ill flash the jelly bean Rom... The viper Rom, I'll let someone else flash for me lol

LoL there is more difference between binned chipsets then 25mv. 25mv is nothing.. you'll lose more battery from the screen moving that slider for a second then you will gain with that tiny increment.

What battery life do you get for general use? Will it last a day?

I think its worth it. N5 is a better spec phone. As for battery life I think its alright. 15hr standby, mainly internet and abit of gaming with 2hr 55min SOT and my battery still on 45%
It's a worthwhile change if you are sick of your device. I am sure there is plenty of support on xda for the one x.

It's definitely a worthwhile upgrade. A lot of people seem to think that the battery life isn't very good on the N5 but my experience has been different. I can get 5 hours screen time no problem, and it lasts the whole day easily, and then some. Of all the phones I've owned (which is a lot) the N5's battery is second only to the Moto X. Aside from that, it is a heck of a lot faster and smoother, and has a larger and higher resolution screen. I loved my One X, I still think it is one of the best phones ever made, but the N5 is a significantly better device. You will miss the colors of the One X's screen though- the N5's is pretty washed out in comparison. But after a while you'll get used to it. Definitely go for it.

Battery usage -- like everything else -- is so dependent on the user. I get around 24 hours on my set up, with between 4-5 screen time. This out performs every smartphone I've owned. For me, battery life is immense, but again, it's such a subjective thing.
Definitely think it's worth it by personal experience having owned a One X but now on a Nexus 5. Not having to wait for updates is priceless but also the amount of support by the community makes it a device you won't easily get bored with.
As far as battery life goes I easily get through an entire day with very high usage. Here's my usage for today

One x plus will never receive 4.4 so what do you think?

I had a One X+, but it seemed kind of like an after thought. No support from developers or HTC. Went to an s3 then N5. Here are my opinions.
-Screen seemed better on One X+, but N5 isn't bad. Its a little washed out
-Performance is better on N5, it has more ram and a better processor. My One X+ would get bogged down and stutter.
-Camera is a little better in N5, but they are mediocre in both phones.
-N5 s bloated with Google junk and One X+ is bloated with HTC junk. The junk is easier to remove on N5 of course.
-I get around 3.5hrs screen on time on N5, can't remember what I got on One X+
-Reception and signal were better on At&t on One X+. Going to have to probably adjust your APN settings on N5.
-Build quality better on One X+
I would rate the Att One X+ a 7/10 and the N5 a 9/10.

Not having 4.4 doesn't necessarily make the X+ a 'worse' phone than the N5 - hence the question.
