Hey All,
I've decided to do a battery test for my HOX, my battery seems to drop quickly when being used for just texting. So I'm at 100% right now and I'm gonna let it drain out to 1% and see how my battery life differs. I then will decide whether I will or not undervolt my device.
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
You should turn off auto brightnes and set the brightness to 30%. Undervolting makes very little impact on battery life.
Sent from my HTC One XL
Thank you, and I see that. My phone has already been undervolted by 25% at first it was great but now it's just like well not good lol
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
So far... so good... So what... Haha that's one of my favorite Megadeth albums ;p but yeah it looks okay, its taken me an hour to go from 100% to 90% so I'm just waiting to see how long it'll take to get from 90% to 80%
Sent from my Calkulins HTC One XL using xda-developers app
You probably undervolted by 25mV not 25% right? You wont notice any significant difference based on that change. I've tried almost every ROM and as I've told you previously viperxl and elementalx have consistently given me the best battery life of any ROM and Kernel combo. Plus I'm addicted to the red venom glow and I go through withdrawal everytime it goes away!
Yeah I meant 25m lol, and I'm a bit nervous to flash a viper Rom.... I see where there are problems, like they post links to fix problems. I see me flashing the joker jelly bean sense 4.1-4.+ Rom in the near future.... I'll let you know how that one goes?
Sent from Megadoug13's nuclear device
It literally takes 5 minutes to backup your current setup and five minutes to flash a new Rom. You could try any out and restore a backup and its like 15 minutes per Rom if you didn't like it right away. Trust me and try them all it won't hurt anything and you can go back if you change your mind like it never happened.
Sent from my HTC One XL
I know, my friend is trying to develope roms for the vivid (my old phone) and I don't want to risk not having a phone if something goes wrong. Just ill flash the jelly bean Rom... The viper Rom, I'll let someone else flash for me lol

LoL there is more difference between binned chipsets then 25mv. 25mv is nothing.. you'll lose more battery from the screen moving that slider for a second then you will gain with that tiny increment.

If this is true, sweet. I know that this doesn't replace the OEM battery but instead will plug into the USB Port instead. Or atleast I think. I know the mophey juice packs for iPhone work this way because its to hard to replace the battery and omg did it do wonders for that phone.

That's a sweet idea hopefully it doesn't interfere with the GPS like "thicker" batteries did on other devices.

It probably will in all honesty, but the great thing about it is, with this using the USB port to attach with, it will mean that removal will not cause your phone to shut off. If I remember correctly the EVO extended battery replaces the OEM battery and it hurt the GPS. So if you want to use GPS and the battery kills ur signal, pop it off and put it back on when you get there

Sheesh, it's going to be almost double the thickness...?
I'm having reservations of getting this now...
Its going to be like carrying around a small netbook in my pocket.
Its gone, todays radio made the phone even worse for me, always had a crap signal to begin with but it got almost unusable after the update, i was gonna get a charge but......the store said they have moved back the date to a TBA again, he also said they bionic has been cancelled, i was left with no option but to go back with the iphone, i almost went with a galaxy S, but ive had one of those upto getting my TB and didnt really wanna go back to something i had already had..
To sum it up, the TB is a great device that lacks the testing it required, it seems to have been rushed out with horrific battery life even with custom roms its still crap for heavy users, and poor signal..
Ill buy one again if they get there crap together and fix the obvious faults, but until Verizon releases a good dual core android im gonna have to stick with what i know.
Cool story, bro.
cool story bro, tell me again with subtitles.
I don't notice any change after the update
ThunderBolt isn't for everyone I guess. I love 4G and I can work with the small battery.

Yikess......not sure where you live, but I get fantastic 4 g everywhere in Chicago, have had 2-3 random reboots since I bought on day 1 (which could be less that the reboots on my Dinc), and get reasonable battery life, best phone I have yet to own.
Not to crap on your post , but I took my ip4 back because of bad service. My TB will hold service where the ip4 wouldn't. I will take service over battery anyday.

Yeah and at least you can change the battery when it dies.. You can't even do that with the iPhone, what a great "feature". Two batteries and a stand alone charger only cost $10 on eBay. Besides I get over a day of battery anyways. I think the real problem existed between the phone and the ground...
I've loved my TB since day 1 and have no problems with it other than a slow to find me GPS. I love this phone and would have to agree that the problems for many seems to be between the phone and the ground. Rooted with DasBAMF 1.6.3 FTW!

I know this is one of those things that everyone seems to complain about, but there is definitely something going on here. I have Seidios 3200 MAH extended battery for my ROOTED bolt, yet my friend running the same ROM as me is getting almost double the battery life with a stock battery. I know the first thing to check is if any apps are killing my battery, which I have checked through thoroughly with no luck. I have tried uninstalling these apps with no luck on better battery life. If it helps I'll post the apps I have
- Beautiful Widgets
- Brilliant Quotes Free
- Days left widget
- Draw Something Free
- Engadget
- Facebook
- iHeart Radio
- Instagram
- Twitter
- Yahoo Mail
- Ringdroid
- Root Explorer
- WeatherBug
- XDA
- Zedge
This of course doesnt include the stock apps on the ROM.
Currently running the Plan 9 ROM, if anybody has any tips for getting the battery up to par I would be very grateful!

Actually it's called "Plan .9" Its only been out for a few days and it's a very very minimal sense ROM. It's missing alot of the sense features as to make the battery better, some people are getting up to 3 days while on it. And the developer is very responsive so far with adding sense widgets and squashing bugs. here is the link...

Yea the Chinese are getting into making bogus crap and selling it in bulk to people on eBay and other places. My stepdad bought a bunch of bnib usb flash drives on eBay claiming to be 200gb and none of them worked. They were some of the best fakes I have ever seen. They were in packing identical to the actual product.

I bought my battery directly from Seidio, don't think its a Chinese scam. But Something is definitely eating my battery, although the battery usage is showing my display as the main culprit.

You're showing 5 hours and you are only at 56%. That would mean you have around 5 more hours. It looks like you made some serious phone calls which would eat up a lot of battery too. I don't know if you use auto brightness but it can help if you disable it and set it at the lowest possible setting you can stand. Another thing you might look into is the Facebook app. It was causing a wake lock on my phone so I removed it and that helped me a lot.

If its a sense rom, try imo 5.2 kernel for sense. Use setcpu for a screen off profile of 245/386. If its desensed alot, you can probably get away with underclocking it to 768. Brightness is huge batt hog, set as low as possible. I have as few things syncing as possible also. Interesting looking rom, i will try it out with my stock battery and let you know.

the best battery life ive ever gotten was from the full blown MR4 rom with the stock MR4 kernel and the MR4 radio
people say that the MR4 Kernel slows the bandwidth down somehow and maybe it does but its awesome on battery life
Thats the thing, I only spent about 15 minutes total throughout the day on the phone so it seems like its eating much more battery than usual. Maybe I'll try a new kernel and see how that pans out.

I'd try to turn off widgets, but also turn off all background running apps.
Seal is a good program to keep apps from turning on imo. I use it to limit usage - on most Roms I get almost 30 hrs of battery life. (Extended battery).
Good trick - overnight I use Airplane Mode and my battery drops at most 5% for 10 hrs.
I just got the Samsung Galaxy s3 the other day and I am impressed. I was coming from an iPhone 4. Only thing I don't like is the battery life. So far I've flashed synergy 1.7, beans build 8, and Scotts cleanrom. Synergy seems to be the best on battery life, but I just want to know what others think. Also, I am running IMO lean kernel .01 on all of them at stock speeds. Not over clocked. Just wanting opinions.
Try synergy 1.3, best rom with excellent battery life

There really is no best rom, it's all about user preference and exactly what you do with your phone. Try them each out for a week to weigh the pros/cons (or in your case scope out the battery life), then go with the one that you like best.

Thanks for the info but I've done that. They all seem the same. I think my real concern is the kernel. I like Scotts cleanrom but I wanna know which kernel is recommended for battery and performance
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
All the ROMs do a pretty good job. If battery life is your #1 concern and nothing else matters:
1. keep screen brightness on minimum. Screen filter can reduce brightness even more.
2. If you use wifi, set it to sleep unless charging.
3. Don't use 4g. Use 3g only.
4. Disable syncing or data entirely and only manually sync when you need to. (Something like JuiceDefender can automate this)
5. Disable google backup.
6. Disable GPS and verizon/google location services.
7. Disable bluetooth.
8. Check and eliminate all wakelocks using betterbattery stats.
9. Turn off all haptic feedback.
10. Freeze all Samsung and Verizon related services using titanium Backup.
11. Maybe a mild underclock on your kernel.
At this point, you will get great battery on your dumbphone with a giant screen
Haha thanks man. Yeah I'm just stupud about battery. I pay attention to it too much. I'll do all that. Stupid giant screen indeed

I was having horrific battery on 1.7 with IMO's 0.1 beta. I completely wiped and reinstalled 1.7 on stock kernel, let my battery completely die and charged it up last night. Today I am at 90% after 3.5 hours unplugged listening to pod casts the whole time and texting and reddit app. Yesterday I was at 78% doing much less and unplugged for less time. I think when updating to new ROMs its important to do a full wipe and make sure if you use TiBu don't restore any system data. I don't have anything frozen as well
I'm getting almost 24 hours with about 2 hours of screen time, so much better coming from a Galaxy Nexus

My SC-05D just hit 51C and I think I burned the tip of my finger a little. I can still feel it.
51C is 123.8F by the way.
I wonder if there's any danger in breaking these things at such temperatures?
So, what's the hottest your phone has ever been?
I did a search before I posted this and over 80 different threads came up with "How hot does your phone get" but none of them seemed to have a poll... So I started this one.
Also, sorry for the type-o! 53°C should obviously be (127.5°F) instead of (27.5°F).

I also have a Galaxy S3 and mine gets pretty hot. Google3D maps plus GPS keeps it at an almost constant 46°C
46°C is about when I start getting concerned and the feeling is eye-wideningly uncomfortable.
Turn on GPS, WiFi, and play this to level 3 and then take a look at the Battery Mix temperature log.
racecondition in a rom plowed through battery...
Yep, that's hottening indeed.
Full battery to empty in 20 minutes. It happened more or less 30% when moving out of coverage of wifi.
Logs where filling in crazy speed with something in the lines of "couldn't set country...".
So 55C yeah... Easy.
