What's the hottest your phone has ever been? - General Questions and Answers

My SC-05D just hit 51C and I think I burned the tip of my finger a little. I can still feel it.
51C is 123.8F by the way.
I wonder if there's any danger in breaking these things at such temperatures?
So, what's the hottest your phone has ever been?

I did a search before I posted this and over 80 different threads came up with "How hot does your phone get" but none of them seemed to have a poll... So I started this one.
Also, sorry for the type-o! 53°C should obviously be (127.5°F) instead of (27.5°F).

My s3 has only been up to about 115 degrees Fahrenheit, but my tablet has been up to a freakish 135. Scared the crap out of me

Justus, wow.. 135... That's very near the melting point of many plastics - isn't it?

But how come there's numerous reads, 5 replies and only 1 other (besides me) clicked on a poll entry? [EDIT: Now two others. Yay! ]
The poll doesn't show up on phones?
I'll have to remember that.

my galaxy s3 doesn't get hot, even trying to force it with games or other apps

what the ****, you never played a game with the OneX did you?
my OneX gets over 70° hot, i even reached 80° once.
srsly, why is 55° the highest value? xD
EDIT: Even now when it just lies around, it's on 40°+.
Tegra3 ftw.. (definitely the last nvidia phone for me)

I also have a Galaxy S3 and mine gets pretty hot. Google3D maps plus GPS keeps it at an almost constant 46°C
46°C is about when I start getting concerned and the feeling is eye-wideningly uncomfortable.
Turn on GPS, WiFi, and play this to level 3 and then take a look at the Battery Mix temperature log.

racecondition in a rom plowed through battery...
Yep, that's hottening indeed.
Full battery to empty in 20 minutes. It happened more or less 30% when moving out of coverage of wifi.
Logs where filling in crazy speed with something in the lines of "couldn't set country...".
So 55C yeah... Easy.

Wow...
What battery spec?

Using BatteryLife widget I saw a 116°F once while playing a game. GPS also gets the metal kickstand on my Evo pretty toasty.

Always under 45°C anyway...

If I leave my phone in the car it gets much warmer but other than that it seems to run pretty cool.

55°C and rising, had to turn it off.

I also live in AZ. The temperature doesn't affect the phone much when using it normally. However the phone tends to freeze up when using Copilot GPS, because to heats up quite a bit.

Yes, I am experienced the same thing on my EVO, as well as my HD7. The heat tends to warm up the phones just a bit, as long as I don't stay in the sun too long.

I will be Tampa in about a month, guess we will see if humidity could cause problems then.
46 C isn't an overheat condition, but it's getting close. Your health condition still says "good". My phone went to 49 C yesterday when I plugged it into a new 2.1 amp car charger, and the battery health message changed to "OVERHEAT". I don't believe the charger caused it, since I unplugged the phone, let it cool down, then happily used the charger without heat issues again. I've used a 2.1 amp wall charger routinely as well.
I have an iPhone 4 and I tried running a GPS app on it while mounted to my dash. The combination of the app and the sunlight shining on that black glass cause that phone to shut down with a heat warning pretty quickly.
BTW, the HTC Battery Widget will give you full battery details including temp if you tap it.
I once used the phone in a car using the car dock on a sunny day last week. After driving for more than an hour and 15 minutes, the phone started to flash both amber and green LED's in sequence. When I was looking for the reason why the lights are flashing, I accidentally tapped on the battery widget I have installed on the home screen, and it said it was 50.9 degrees Celsius. I unplugged the phone, shut it off for about 10 minutes, and the temp went down to about 32 degrees Celsius.
I was in Florence when my phone got to 113 degrees. I think it was getting so hot because it was looking for a 4g signal when there was none. I entered # * # * #4636 # * #. To turn off the 4g and my temperature dropped by 5 degrees.

So after todays update i returned my Thunderbolt

Its gone, todays radio made the phone even worse for me, always had a crap signal to begin with but it got almost unusable after the update, i was gonna get a charge but......the store said they have moved back the date to a TBA again, he also said they bionic has been cancelled, i was left with no option but to go back with the iphone, i almost went with a galaxy S, but ive had one of those upto getting my TB and didnt really wanna go back to something i had already had..
To sum it up, the TB is a great device that lacks the testing it required, it seems to have been rushed out with horrific battery life even with custom roms its still crap for heavy users, and poor signal..
Ill buy one again if they get there crap together and fix the obvious faults, but until Verizon releases a good dual core android im gonna have to stick with what i know.
Cool story, bro.
cool story bro, tell me again with subtitles.
I don't notice any change after the update
ThunderBolt isn't for everyone I guess. I love 4G and I can work with the small battery.

Yikess......not sure where you live, but I get fantastic 4 g everywhere in Chicago, have had 2-3 random reboots since I bought on day 1 (which could be less that the reboots on my Dinc), and get reasonable battery life, best phone I have yet to own.

Yeah and at least you can change the battery when it dies.. You can't even do that with the iPhone, what a great "feature". Two batteries and a stand alone charger only cost $10 on eBay. Besides I get over a day of battery anyways. I think the real problem existed between the phone and the ground...
I've loved my TB since day 1 and have no problems with it other than a slow to find me GPS. I love this phone and would have to agree that the problems for many seems to be between the phone and the ground. Rooted with DasBAMF 1.6.3 FTW!

SGS II SGH-I727 exploded in pocket. Photos inside

My friend almost lost his nuts! He said he heard a sound, a burning sensation on his leg and as he pulled this piece of junk out of his pocket he smelled burning. There was smoke coming out of his pocket and out of the phone. LoL, He said he was scared.
My friend didn't even own this phone for two weeks before it nearly burned him! He said he wasn't even using it; just idling in his pocket and hadn't been used for awhile.

was probably a fluke, i dont know how you would cross battery connections without some sort of a jumper/maybe a liquid that would cuase this. its like putting 2 nine volt batteries ( the square ones end to end ) eventually they will melt/maybe explode from the heat building up.
i can see this happening if something small got caught in between the battery and phone connection while re-seating the battery.

the problem was obviously a battery fire, not the phone itself
this could mean it was a faulty battery or the contacts might have got wet by the closest source of spill

just return it to rogers and get an exchange, you'll need a new SIM card & SGH-i727R anyways

Verizon SIII 32GB Blue Brief Review Video

Guys earlier I posted an unboxing video in another thread. That video is right here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BryoOlaWQaU&feature=plcp
Then I spent the next 4 or 5 hours trying to get the freaking thing activated. That finally happened, but I haven't had much time with the phone. Anyways, here's a quick video showing the boot up, and some speed tests on 4G LTE. This phone is beast! (it may be sideways for a bit but I've rotated it to the right in Youtube, sometimes it just takes a while)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wovT50uGfLw&feature=plcp
Feel free to ask questions, I can try to post more videos over the next couple days but my schedule is literally booked for the next 2 days so I'll do what I can.
Good job

It's looking like the Verizon version is going to have sweet sweet battery life!
The phone starts at about 50% and I still have stellar life out of that! I had rebooted it and connected it via usb to try and get adb shell. Otherwise it would show nearly 20hrs of battery at this point!

Have they fixed that 34ma battery drain issue yet? Officially? I'm a nexus dude but seriously considering returning it and getting in on one of these s3's. Just switched to Verizon and I love, love, love the network. Haven't been with vzw since '07.
I'd also like to know if there is still the bleeding/weeping/leakage of the back lights on the white version? Like there was on the white galaxy s 2.
Thanks.

I'm not aware of this battery drain issue you speak of. If it exists on my phone, I can obviously obviously with it. The cell standby numbers are way too high, especially considering I was on full LTE coverage all night. My epic4g had a similar issue and it was fixed via software fairly quickly.
Mine is blue so I can't comment on your other question. Yes, the Verizon network is AWESOME!

"The cell standby" that is the Battery drain issue he is referencing, it is not really a "real" drain issue, more a reporting issue.
Even with the drain issue that battery life is awesome. Thank you for posting your initial thoughts and battery stats.

Various battery monitoring apps provide temperature information and I am sure there are some apps that simply provide temperature information alone.
I have been curious about what a good or "okay" temperature range is for this device.. Or any tablet really.
