SGS II SGH-I727 exploded in pocket. Photos inside - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

My friend almost lost his nuts! He said he heard a sound, a burning sensation on his leg and as he pulled this piece of junk out of his pocket he smelled burning. There was smoke coming out of his pocket and out of the phone. LoL, He said he was scared.
My friend didn't even own this phone for two weeks before it nearly burned him! He said he wasn't even using it; just idling in his pocket and hadn't been used for awhile.
Here's some photos:

Funny, I was just reading a day or so ago about an iPhone 4s that caught fire and thought to myself.... "Well, that'll never happen with a Skyrocket".
doh.

Yup didnt you guys here yet? Because of this there is now a recall...all skyrocket owners must reaturn them to the closest at&t store they will be exchanged at no cost for a at&t galaxy nexus which was not supposed to be released until christmass day... but they are releasing tomarrow instead

Sent from my Google Nexus S.

was probably a fluke, i dont know how you would cross battery connections without some sort of a jumper/maybe a liquid that would cuase this. its like putting 2 nine volt batteries ( the square ones end to end ) eventually they will melt/maybe explode from the heat building up.
i can see this happening if something small got caught in between the battery and phone connection while re-seating the battery.

If it is truely an AT&T skyrocket, maybe AT&T sent the remote distruct command when your friend put a Roger's SIM in his phone.....

Will be interesting to see unfold. We had a local Guy claim that a motodroid exploded near his face last year. He went public and went after Motorola claiming glass shards cut up his face etc. I want to say they determined dude had dropped the phone which cracked the screen and everything beyond that was staged.

the problem was obviously a battery fire, not the phone itself
this could mean it was a faulty battery or the contacts might have got wet by the closest source of spill
after all it was near his balls, according to the OP
just return it to rogers and get an exchange, you'll need a new SIM card & SGH-i727R anyways

So after todays update i returned my Thunderbolt

Its gone, todays radio made the phone even worse for me, always had a crap signal to begin with but it got almost unusable after the update, i was gonna get a charge but......the store said they have moved back the date to a TBA again, he also said they bionic has been cancelled, i was left with no option but to go back with the iphone, i almost went with a galaxy S, but ive had one of those upto getting my TB and didnt really wanna go back to something i had already had..
To sum it up, the TB is a great device that lacks the testing it required, it seems to have been rushed out with horrific battery life even with custom roms its still crap for heavy users, and poor signal..
Ill buy one again if they get there crap together and fix the obvious faults, but until Verizon releases a good dual core android im gonna have to stick with what i know.
Cool story, bro.
cool story bro, tell me again with subtitles.
I don't notice any change after the update
ThunderBolt isn't for everyone I guess. I love 4G and I can work with the small battery.

Yikess......not sure where you live, but I get fantastic 4 g everywhere in Chicago, have had 2-3 random reboots since I bought on day 1 (which could be less that the reboots on my Dinc), and get reasonable battery life, best phone I have yet to own.
Not to crap on your post , but I took my ip4 back because of bad service. My TB will hold service where the ip4 wouldn't. I will take service over battery anyday.

Yeah and at least you can change the battery when it dies.. You can't even do that with the iPhone, what a great "feature". Two batteries and a stand alone charger only cost $10 on eBay. Besides I get over a day of battery anyways. I think the real problem existed between the phone and the ground...
I've loved my TB since day 1 and have no problems with it other than a slow to find me GPS. I love this phone and would have to agree that the problems for many seems to be between the phone and the ground. Rooted with DasBAMF 1.6.3 FTW!

eff'ing incredible!
Does the price increase flow down to resellers, like Radio Shack and Costco?
But far more importantly, will the HTC Sensation come out as a 199 phone, or a 249 phone. Hard to believe it would be anymore than 199.
IMO, the price increase is simply a way of pushing out G2X purchases out to the supply that is already in the distribution channel.

EM+ user, unsubsidized is still the same so it doesn't bother me one bit.
Well I'd rather the price go up because it is in such high demand then the price go down because it isn't popular.
My fiancee and I both got G2x's. Her's has been flawless with no modding required...18 hour battery life, no random reboots, instant lock GPS.
I've had to exchange mine once, and my current one has occasional random reboots and GPS doesn't lock for 10 minutes. Annoying, but I'm still happy with it..it pretty much flies otherwise, so I can't complain too much.
Guess I'm not that lucky. Had mine for a week and it's a mess. Battery life 4-6 hours. Random reboots 2-3 times a day. Battery gets super hot. Only thing I don't have is terrible screen bleed. I did get a good price though. $99 at Costco with a 30 day return which I will definitely do to get something else.

Damn dude, I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me! Well, I doubt it would, I have a Trident Aegis Case on mine.
My G2x fell about 3 feet onto tile yesterday and the glass is cracked something terrible. Will post a picture when I get back from vacation.
Hopefully I can get a similar repair deal from LG.
mine didn't quite look as bad as that pic, but was pretty bad. It still worked just fine, I could feel the cracks in it when moving my finger over the glass. Just call LG, they quoted a price between $40-$100, gave me a confirmation number. I mailed it in, then got an email with the total amount due for a repair. Called and paid over the phone, got my phone back about 5 days later...pretty easy..
Definately wasn't happy when it happened, actually felt sick to my stomach

I just broke mine recently too, I ordered a white replacement digitizer on ebay, originally thought I would receive the whole assembly as most are advertised with the housing that has volume /power buttons, I got just the screen still easy fix though it required some tough gloves and a screwdriver to break all the old digitizer out and some impact proof superglue to put old one in though it worked, and now i have a black and white g2x its quite nice here's a link to a video on how to replace it.
I would recommend for ease of replacement to get a black one with the housing (volume and power buttons) attached. much much easier to replace.

dude, that's seriously sick. is your battery door still that weird brown color? i found one white digitizer on ebay for $78. is that what you paid?
I sent mine to LG (well, Stellar Wireless) after I dropped it, and they swapped it out for me for $40. Unfortunately, the one they sent me had non0functioning 4G and GPS, so I had to send it back in and I'm waiting for my replacement to be returned to me.
I ordered the digitizer from eBay. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to replace

My new digitizer should be here in a couple days, seems a whole lot easier to repair than my last phone, so I will update on how it goes. My biggest thought is about getting dust or anything between the LCD and digitizer. :/

My SC-05D just hit 51C and I think I burned the tip of my finger a little. I can still feel it.
51C is 123.8F by the way.
I wonder if there's any danger in breaking these things at such temperatures?
So, what's the hottest your phone has ever been?
I did a search before I posted this and over 80 different threads came up with "How hot does your phone get" but none of them seemed to have a poll... So I started this one.
Also, sorry for the type-o! 53°C should obviously be (127.5°F) instead of (27.5°F).

I also have a Galaxy S3 and mine gets pretty hot. Google3D maps plus GPS keeps it at an almost constant 46°C
46°C is about when I start getting concerned and the feeling is eye-wideningly uncomfortable.
Turn on GPS, WiFi, and play this to level 3 and then take a look at the Battery Mix temperature log.
racecondition in a rom plowed through battery...
Yep, that's hottening indeed.
Full battery to empty in 20 minutes. It happened more or less 30% when moving out of coverage of wifi.
Logs where filling in crazy speed with something in the lines of "couldn't set country...".
So 55C yeah... Easy.
