You have a terrible signal...
I'm confused as to why people are treating this as a bad thing.
Go buy an iPhone if you want your hardware limited.
I suspected as much. Doesn't give the text on mine, but the throttle is most certainly there. It's bloody annoying.
On, off, on, off, on off... This thing should come with an epilepsy warning. Fine, I'll just keep it at 99.9%, then. Marvellous solution there Samsung/Google.

Thermal throttling is an amazing thing. It allows you to have as much performance as possible without damaging the hardware.
Apple sets their maximum performance very low so as to never need to throttle. If you want your N3 never to need to throttle, turn the settings down.
And this is a bad thing... because? It's to avoid hardware damage

I am going to buy a note 3 , have a mega 6.3 , and in the mega foruns here on xda this issue have been discussed exhaustively. As it seems some units do this others don't have tryed mine to do it/ display this message , setting brighteness to the max , and paying asphalt 8 for more than a hour straight , I did get the device to warm quite a bit , but no display throttling whatsoever, just hope I have the same luck with my note 3

for me the problem is that the thermal throttling kicks in (or, better described: on off on off on off) even at
minimum brightness levels, so i doubt it has any thermal impact on these low levels. there it's only annoying, nothing more!
it would make more sense if the thermal throttling of the display only activates over some brightness level, where the reduction HAS an impact on the thermal situation!
but this are just my 2 cents...
I really don't think these measures are put in for sh*ts and giggles but yeah you only paid $700+ who cares if by preventing this it'll cut down the life span of the phone or help reduce screen burnin

Tapatalk is retarded when it comes to attachments.
Thermal throttling is good to avoid damage to hardware.
And for your own health, is advise don't use 100% brightness, this is way too bright, it will eventually slowly damage your eye.
I had no idea how could you stand 100% brightness, don't you think it is over kill bright?

LCD backlight bleed on 100% brightness
That looks pretty bad if you ask me. I exchanged phones three times before getting one I could live with. The one I have now is about as bad at 100% as yours is at 50. It's not perfect but it's MUCH better than the first few I had.

That's what I got as a general consensus... Just wanted to see how this compared to other bleeding LCDs.
Do you know if anyone has even gotten a unit without a backlight bleed?
How often will you be running black screens in pitch darkness?
Does screen bleed even matter in sunlight or office lighting?
At 30 percent brightness does it even honestly make a difference?
It'd be dumb to exchange it if the phone is free of any of the "bugs" or issues [serious ones] other people have with the phone. No reboots, never lags, good battery life? Keep it.

Then you answered it yourself. Keep it. Some people have reported the bleeding getting better overtime and I honestly don't understand what the big deal is. I wish I had a bleeding unit so that I could run some color and contrast bars and see if they truly affect image quality and fidelity.
because all I know is "HD' video and some of the games look gorgoeus on this screen....and the only time I see anything resembling "bleeding" is in that stupid draw app...which I would have never downlaoded anyway!

Well, the bleeding on mine was noticeable when running a GB rom with the black status bar. That's what made me decide to exchange mine. Was a huge issue? No, not really. Did it piss me off every time I looked at the status bar? You bet.
All that being said I guess it's best to mention I paid retail. If you got the phone for a great deal (like the one costco is offering) then I'd agree that it's not worth exchanging unless it bothers you.
Fortunately the one I've got now has been pretty good to me so far. I've only had it lock up once and I just restored a backup via clockwork and went on my way.

Hi, so ever since ICS, or at least SCv7 (not sure if it did it stock, I switched right away), my screen has bee completely killing my battery
I still get perfectly fine life with the screen off, but it just drops right down with it on even not doing anything to heavy. Definitely a problem not normal.
Anyone have any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?

What are your screen settings at (levels, auto on/off, etc)? Screen is by far the biggest drain on battery. Check my Battery Guide, last Page for an app mentioned to lower brightness more than the stock settings will allow for- maybe that would help in certain instances. I haven't tried it myself, but will be doing so over the weekend, and if beneficial I will update the OP with it.
My SGS3 is the same as my A2 being that the screen gobbled up battery like crazy. So, I suppose you're not alone, at least with what I've experienced.
Not sure if any of this is helpful, but thought I'd share my thoughts...

I keep it on auto or low all the time. this is definitely a real problem, because it was nowhere near as bad on GB. now I know they fixed the cell standby issue, but I can literally see the battery go right on down when I turn it on. 3-4 hours on would kill it.
Maybe try with auto off for a while, see if you notice any difference.

Looking at your battery's discharge rate graph, looks pretty normal. There's no drastic drops in battery, it's fairly linear in discharge, and even if the screen is using most of that. However, there could be other culprits. What about sync, or haptic, or any of the other things I outlined in my guide? WiFi is off, from what I saw, but might not just be the screen. Have you tried editing build prop for "deeper" deep sleep or edits to other things? I'm going to update my OP with a few more things I thought of for improving overall battery life this weekend. Maybe some of the new ones will help...

then my battery calibration scrambles ... i did switchin yesterday & it showed me
30% far early than expected
Same problem here..my screen draining 57%
Why don't you try the app betterbatterystats it's here in xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15869868
This may help to see the real problem of the fast battery drain you said, also you can install the app rootDim from the playstore to custom your screen brightness.

My SC-05D just hit 51C and I think I burned the tip of my finger a little. I can still feel it.
51C is 123.8F by the way.
I wonder if there's any danger in breaking these things at such temperatures?
So, what's the hottest your phone has ever been?
I did a search before I posted this and over 80 different threads came up with "How hot does your phone get" but none of them seemed to have a poll... So I started this one.
Also, sorry for the type-o! 53°C should obviously be (127.5°F) instead of (27.5°F).

I also have a Galaxy S3 and mine gets pretty hot. Google3D maps plus GPS keeps it at an almost constant 46°C
46°C is about when I start getting concerned and the feeling is eye-wideningly uncomfortable.
Turn on GPS, WiFi, and play this to level 3 and then take a look at the Battery Mix temperature log.
racecondition in a rom plowed through battery...
Yep, that's hottening indeed.
Full battery to empty in 20 minutes. It happened more or less 30% when moving out of coverage of wifi.
Logs where filling in crazy speed with something in the lines of "couldn't set country...".
So 55C yeah... Easy.

Exactly what you'd expect, a quick dissolving effect when you go to the home screen, switch between apps etc.
Ha ha ha lets turn off the animation efects and this will make the phone faster...This make phone more ugly because you torn off visual efects, and nothing about overall procesor and work speed.NOTHING!
Wrong. I prefer the look without the animations and it does in fact make the phone much more responsive which is all good because lag sucks and that fix along with killing the S-voice on the home key makes the phone a whole lot better to live with.
I prefer them off. Much snappier. Thanks.

It's mind blowing how many people actually complains that the s4 lags!
my s4 is quick and snappy. Stock touchwiz qualcom version.
Even with air gestures and s voice enabled, there is no sign of lag or stutter.
Just received my 16GB from Tesco here in the UK. In my initial checks I found there's quite a bit of backlight bleed across the top of the display and about 1-1.5cm down either side. It's not the worst I've ever seen but it ain't great either. Not sure whether to return or live with it. I might see if I can get a shot of it to post on here.

I agree, now if I spent 400 I'd think differently.

You've definitely got a point, even more so as I effectively got it for free with Tesco Clubcard vouchers.
Anyway, I've taken a shot for the record.

My device have some bleed to, but not as much as this.
One problem I found is that it has two black spots on the mount point of the LCD, you can only see when you put the phone slightly tilted.
Does anyone have the same problem?

I can clearly make one out in the bottom left, not so much the other side. That won't bother me TBH.

Yes, is not something that bothers a lot, but I was thinking of getting to replace, but if it is with all, I am stay with that.
Anyone else have the same situation?
Thank you.

Wow - my Moto G's screen definitely does not have as much bleed as that. Nowhere near! And I can only see one of the mount points at extreme angles (way higher than any usable angles). The effects might be exaggerated by the photos I guess? Is it the same with bare eyes? I would take some photos of mine but I don't have another camera...

With my bleed, do you reckon I should return it?

The mount point I start to see at approximately 35 degrees, below is new images illustrating the "problem":
35°
45°
85°

I can't speak for the average quality of the screens on different Moto Gs, so it's hard to say. If you got it from a shop, maybe you could consider taking it in and asking to compare to some other Moto Gs because you're concerned about it?
Maybe I am lucky and got one with an excellent quality screen or something?!

Yep, that looks a bit irritating. I definitely don't see anything like that at around 35-45°... The most I can see is a vaguely darker area, pretty much only visible on full brightness.
I have almost no bleeding at all, just sayin'
I've arranged a return. On searching I did find this thread with a similar experience of bleed (although no pic) http://www.modaco.com/topic/366801-backlight-bleed/
I also noticed a very slight flaw/nick in the glossy plastic surrounding the screen. That plastic is a little soft so I'm wondering about the durability of the phone in the longer term.
Anyway I'm not getting a replacement right now, I'm going to sit back and see if these issues are prevalent and then decide whether to get another.
Any QA issue would raise it. This is how manufacturers learn and improve

I can see some backlight bleed, but it's not all that bad at all, and I had to use a black image to really notice it. It's mostly in the top left corner, for some reason..
