[Q] Help w/ Nexus 7 (2012) - General Questions and Answers

I have been running CM10.2 on my Nexus 7 since I bought it. It has been running fine until recently and now the Google Play Market will not work, browsers are crashing and other apps are crashing all over the place. I am trying to flash another Rom onto it but keep getting errors during the flash about the zips not being able to be opened and such. I am also getting errors trying to use the Unified Nexus Toolkit, because the CM is 4.3.1 and this build is not in the list for the toolkit so I have been trying to use Custom Rom (JB) from the top of the list but it goes into TWRP that it downloaded and used on a temp load but once in TWRP it can't connect with device to do a nandroid backup.
I am running TWRP Multi-rom as the Recovery and I am, trying to flash CyanFox for Grouper. Could I be getting errors because I am running the Multi-rom instead of plain TWRP or CWM? If so, can I flash a new recovery onto the Nexus 7 without wiping my CM10.2 because it is not yet backed up.
If you know of any easier ways to get this done let me know. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advanced!!!

Update: I have now went ahead and wiped system, dalvik, cache and factory data reset and have tried flashing both cyanfox and beanstalk harmony. Both are giving me a Status 7 Error. Any ideas why?

[Q] Latest gapps not installing on latest cyanogenmod

I've been updating Cyanogenmod with the Nightlies. Since the March updates, I've not been able to install gapps, even with the newest version. I've Googled on this, and I've tried everything I could find. I've made sure I had the latest version of gapps, I've wiped the cache and the Dalvik cache, and I've mounted the system partition before installing the zip. I've even done a factory reset. At one point, I was so far gone with all the different things I was trying that I had to revert back to a stock setup.
When I install the gapps zip file in Clockworkmod, everything looks fine. No errors or anything. It goes through the install process, and it completes, but when I reboot, I have no Google Apps installed.
I have a 4g Xoom (Verizon).
The different CWM versions I've had this issue with have been:
cm-10.1-20130309-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip
cm-10.1-20130311-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip
cm-10.1-20130315-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip
The latest gapps version I've been trying to install is:
gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Thank you.
I have xoom wifi. the version of gapps I have is:
gapps-unified-jb-20130220-signed.zip
it should be somewhere in the portal as that's where I downloaded from. see it may work for you too.

Not sure if this is an option for you, but have you tried running gapps-jb-20130105-EOS-XOOM-ONLY.zip?

I did try this, just for the sake of trying something as I am having the same issues as the OP.
I flashed the latest nightly cm-10.1-20130330-NIGHTLY-stingray.zip on my Xoom and then tried the EOS version of GApps. It just bootlooped numerous times. I flashed the ROM, then flashed GApps. I cleared cache/data/dalvik with no luck, it just brought me back to recovery.
Any ideas? I know it is a nightly, so I am not too worried about it. I am just playing around.
You should try the new unified gapps for Cm, the link is listed in the OP of the cm 10.1 thread. Also, if you are using cwm recovery, try twrp. Your recovery could be causing issues
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Thanks! I will give that a try when I get home. Went straight to the CyanogenMod site to get GApps so I missed that.
Well, I made a very simple mistake. I only read the directions partially, assuming everything would work like flashing my phone or Nexus 7. I wiped data, wiped dalvik, installed the ROM and then installed GApps. I booted my Xoom and of coarse, even with the unified version of GApps, it still did not work.
I repeated the process but did not install GApps. I let the device boot and then went back in to recovery. I flashed GApps and rebooted and it works perfectly. I did not try another version of GApps this time.
Lesson learned.

Download Google appstore zip file by itself.. After flashing gapps, flash the appstore by itself as well.. Worked for me
Latest Nightly issue Camera+Gallery
I'm using the 20130609 nightly in my Everest, but re-flashing the Unified Apps from CM 10.1 official thread doesn't work. On the 20130601 nightly it works like a charm!.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.s: As an advice, I tried formatting system partition in CWM, reinstall nightly and gapps. All works fine now!

[Q] 4.3 not rebooting on Verizon Galaxy S 4

So I can't get 4.3 ROMs to reboot. I have tried several different Roms and always the same thing. Mainly Pac. It loads the first time fine, but when I reboot it just hangs on the Galaxy S4 screen. I have updated TWRP to 2.6 and tried wiping cache and dalvik between flashing the ROM and gaaps. And still nothing the only way I can get to do anything after that is to reformat and do a factory reset and the reflash the ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So just in case anyone else runs into this problem, I figured it out myself. I am running the MDK build so the only thing you would change is th rooting process.
1. Reflash Stock using ODIN
2. Reroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381382
3. Install newest 2.6.3 TWRP
4. Back up Stock
5. Flash 4.3 ROM and 4.3 Gapps
I'm not sure if it was reflashing stock or the newest update to twrp but whichever. It worked.

[Q] Cyanogenmod and my Boost S3

I'm having a difficult time installing cyanogenmod 11 to my S3. I have scoured the internet looking but nothing seems to work. I have Philz touch recovery and I even switched to sprints ND8 modem. Now I did read that I would need the latest CWM or TWRP but when I tried to install them they do not mount to sdcard or usb, nor can I install CM11(d2spr or d2lte). I can't even install the CM installer lol. Any help would be appreciated and If there is any info that you need to better help let me know. Thanks in advance.
Ok so I think I may have figured it out. Ive been getting a status 7 and it would abort the install of the zip. I just got done reading some of the thread on Philz recovery and it says I have to update script binary? Now is that the same as the binary that gets updated for the SU?
OK I figured it out it. I just did a factory, partition cache, and dalvik cache wipe about 3 time each and installed the oldest snapshot of cm11 and it worked and I can go up from there.

[Q] [REQUEST] Nexus 5 flashing problem

Hi mates.
So, I was running CM12 nightlies on my phone but it began to get slow and buggy.
I decided to go back to stock 4.4.4, ans then flash CM11 on dit
I did full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik), installed stock 4.4.4 (latest official build)
Then i downloaded CM installer but couldn't get it to work.
So I used Nexus foot toolkit on PC, but the flashing process went wrong somehow, just when it reboots the phone to recovery, nothing happened, no flashing process whatsoever.
From this moment, my problem had appeared
So I rebooted normally, downloaded CM11 and I was unable to flash it. Signature check failed.
I've tried OTA 5.0.1, not working either, same error.
So I am currently running latest 4.4.4 without any problem, but even after an other full wipe I'm not able to flash anything, custom or stock. My recovery is the latest TWRP from the Google play app.
Could you please help me ? I don't mind wiping my phone, and I'd prefer a "no PC" solution but I still can use a PC if needed.
Thanks

[ROM][TWRP] Can't flash new ROM

Newbie here.
Background: I have my Samsung Note 10.1 GT-N8000 since 2012, but I haven't touched it for 2+ years because it was still on Android 4.1. (Last week Netflix announced that we could watch it offline with Android 4.4 up, so I eventually had the courage to do sth about my 10.1)
My problems:
I was using TWRP 2.4, flashed CM13 ROM and Gapps pico. It went well except all Google apps weren't installed properly:
- If I just flashed the CM13 ROM without Gapps, upon reboot it kept popping "Unfortunately Google Play etc stopped"
- If I flashed both, it was the same, plus all Google apps were labelled "com.Android" instead.
I searched for and tried all possible solutions, and in one old threat someone suggested TWRP version matters too. So I updated it to TWRP 2.8 (also tried 3.0). Now, I have a different set of problems. I can't flash in TWRP 2.8 the same ROM that I could flash with TWRP 2.4, and it keeps giving the "error executing updater binary in zip" I've tried it million times (literally fighting it for the past 18 hours...)
I've tried the followings: wiping system/ cache before flashing new ROM, starting the entire process, rooting it again etc.
Could anyone kindly chip in? Any suggestions are appreciated!!!
Try Philz Recovery .
Nonono...don't try Philz recovery. Use the recovery explicitly stated in the CM13 instructions (TWRP 2.8.7.0) or newer (I'm using 3.0.2.0). Do not use any recovery that the instructions say is not supported, which is everything else.

Given this and the apparent lack of following CM13 installation instructions (you didn't wipe everything), I'd suggest starting over with downloading/flashing the TWRP version on the CM13 downloads page and re-downloading CM13 and and Open GApps check MD5s. Maybe a standard Open GApps install would be a good idea; you can always uninstall what you don't want.
Not meaning to sound harsh but preferable to spending another 18 hours in Einstellung. (pun not intended)
