[Q] Cyanogenmod and my Boost S3 - General Questions and Answers

I'm having a difficult time installing cyanogenmod 11 to my S3. I have scoured the internet looking but nothing seems to work. I have Philz touch recovery and I even switched to sprints ND8 modem. Now I did read that I would need the latest CWM or TWRP but when I tried to install them they do not mount to sdcard or usb, nor can I install CM11(d2spr or d2lte). I can't even install the CM installer lol. Any help would be appreciated and If there is any info that you need to better help let me know. Thanks in advance.

Ok so I think I may have figured it out. Ive been getting a status 7 and it would abort the install of the zip. I just got done reading some of the thread on Philz recovery and it says I have to update script binary? Now is that the same as the binary that gets updated for the SU?

OK I figured it out it. I just did a factory, partition cache, and dalvik cache wipe about 3 time each and installed the oldest snapshot of cm11 and it worked and I can go up from there.

[Q] Help w/ Nexus 7 (2012)

I have been running CM10.2 on my Nexus 7 since I bought it. It has been running fine until recently and now the Google Play Market will not work, browsers are crashing and other apps are crashing all over the place. I am trying to flash another Rom onto it but keep getting errors during the flash about the zips not being able to be opened and such. I am also getting errors trying to use the Unified Nexus Toolkit, because the CM is 4.3.1 and this build is not in the list for the toolkit so I have been trying to use Custom Rom (JB) from the top of the list but it goes into TWRP that it downloaded and used on a temp load but once in TWRP it can't connect with device to do a nandroid backup.
I am running TWRP Multi-rom as the Recovery and I am, trying to flash CyanFox for Grouper. Could I be getting errors because I am running the Multi-rom instead of plain TWRP or CWM? If so, can I flash a new recovery onto the Nexus 7 without wiping my CM10.2 because it is not yet backed up.
If you know of any easier ways to get this done let me know. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advanced!!!
Update: I have now went ahead and wiped system, dalvik, cache and factory data reset and have tried flashing both cyanfox and beanstalk harmony. Both are giving me a Status 7 Error. Any ideas why?

Unable to load Resurrection Remix onto my Captivate i897

Hello,
I am trying to install Resurrection Remix ROM onto my Captivate i897 but keep getting "Can't open ... .zip (bad) install aborted". I have CWM Recovery v6.0.4.5 install running CM11. I've heard good things about RR Rom and would like to try it. I've performed wipe data/factory reset, whipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache but still getting this error. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi there. My brother is using this ROM and it is wonderful. I guess I know what seems be the problem. I had this kind of issues last time when installing new ROM. You are doing it correctly only that you need the latest version of CWM, that is the Philz touch 6/CWM v6.0.4.8. Try that.
Thanks for the info. Just a bit of an update. I managed to flash RR 5.0.0. The very first release. I noticed my CWM is now at 6.0.4.7. I then try flashing the latest RR release 5.1.0 but am still getting the (bad) message. Is it the case that I need to flash all of the RR release in the order they are introduced? This would be a pain I don't believe there is support for the touch CWM for Captivate. I went to goo.im and was not able for find Philz touch for Captivate i897. Is there another location I can download the CWM 6.0.4.8 for i897?
Thanks.

That would be a pain for sure. So far as I know, if the error pop up during the installation as you mentioned on ur 1st post.. that is due to the CWM. I had this issues when installing UltimaAOSP ROM 4.4.2 on my S3. Only I need was the latest CWM and tadaaa. No problem. Glad to help you a bit. Try to search in the forum or google it. I'm not quite sure also regarding your device. Sorry yeah.
Well ... I managed to flash 5.0.5 but am still getting an error for 5.1.0. I'm going to try 5.0.7 and see what happens. Will post back.
Thanks.

I've managed to flash 5.1.0 (the latest release at this point) after flashing 5.0.7. Not exactly sure what happened there but maybe CM11 had something to do with it. But I think you're correct in saying you need the latest release of CWM. Thankfully when I flashed 5.0.0, CWM 6.0.4.7 was installed and that is probably what got me through the rest of the releases. Thanks again for your help.
No problem. I'm glad that I can helped you. Your welcome.?

[Q] Failed upgrade - now soft bricked

Hi all...
I tried to upgrade by Tab 2 7" to KitKat today and failed. I installed Clockworkmod successfully, but then started getting error 7's. I discovered this was because it was outdated. I've tried to install updated clockwork mod which it says has been successful - but doesn't change the original.
I did a backup of my original rom, but this has failed to reinstall. I've tried to put an old version of cyanogen on it, which also has failed, and re-downloaded the stock rom from samsfirmware which passes through ODIN, resets but then the tab 2 hangs on the Samsung screen - flashing.
I can't seem to resolve it.
Has anyone got any ideas? I can't access anything other than clockworkmod - so if you think you know of a way I can successfully upgrade it I may stand half a chance.....
Thanks
Tim

Use Odin to restore to the stock ROM. Download the stock rom from samfirmware.com and flash it in Odin as PDA. Then, use the latest recovery (either TWRP, CWM, OR PhilZ) from @Android-Andi's recovery thread in the Dev section. You should now be able to flash any ROM you want to. Make sure you do a backup and a wipe system, cache, Dalvik, data, and android secure (if it's an option.)

thanks and....
Thanks so much, does it matter that it won't boot with the stock Roma which I've installed from sams? Will the recovery program still work?

Yes, I did twice and it's still hung after apparent success installation according to Odin. I've tried it twice.
No success
Thanks
What I've done tonight is reflashed the original Rom - this time it blew away Clockworkmod. It still wouldn't boot. I then put a recovery solution on from your link, which has flashed well. However I've then tried three ROMS and each have hung after installation on the initial boot.
I'll try them again tomorrow night - but do you have any idea why three ROMS plus the stock keep failing?
Thanks
Tim

Did you wipe system, cache, Dalvik cache, and data before flashing and wipe cache and dalvik after flashing? And your tablet will bootloop after a reinstallation in Odin because Odin does not wipe before installation. After flashing in Odin, reboot recovery (make sure tablet is unplugged,) and wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache. Reboot and you should be good to go.

Hi, I've retried all that this morning-i must admit that I didn't know about wiping cache after install, however it's not made any difference, and still hangs on first boot...
Any other ideas? Thanks for all your help.
Happy success
Hi all
Thanks for all your help, especially rcj! I have managed to recover my device using cynagodmod 9 - it wont run 10 or 11 but at least its up and working - even if it's a downgrade from the Android version I was on Really don't care as I can use it again with a lot more memory.
Thanks - without you I would never have found Phils ROM which enabled me to get this far.

Which version of PhilZ? And I have found that TWRP 2.7.1.0 works better than other versions for KK.
Sent from my SGH-T989
Use latest Philz touch recovery. And use the rom and gapps compatible to your tab. Don't forget to reset to factory setting, clear cache and wipe dalvic cache before flashing the rom and gapps ☺

HELP

So I haven't used my Xoom (wifi) in literally 2 years or so, I grabbed it from the basement today thinking I'd update it and see what I could do.
I jacked it up pretty good as fsr as I'm concerned and not knowing what to do since its been so long.
I was running eos rom and running their nightlies like (46) or something.
I realized I didnt have my gapps (no playstore etc). I booted into recovery and realized I had twrp 2.3.3.0. I went into the dev section and found twrp, the bigpart one and was going to flash cm11. I downloaded the newest twrp like 2.6.3, booted into recovery and flashed the new twrp version. I had already out cm11 on my sd card and was proceeding to wipe everything as it said to do, I wiped my stuff and it kept saying failed. I went ahead and flashed cm11 thinking it was just saying failed and it cleared everything.
When it xomes up it says it needs to be reset, I hit reset it takes me to recovery and the twrp blue welcome screen is stuck, wont let me into do anything
What do I need to do, can anyone please help me?

[Completed] My T999 is Bricked. Loop on CWM and STOCK Rom is not flashing.

Hello guys,
I just have installed the stock Jellybean update on my phone, already with cwm, I rooted it, and it was working just fine.
Then I flashed the TWRP Custom Recovery, and I wanted the CM 12.1 back, so I tried to do that, normally, and the TWRP said that it wasn't possible, ok, I just flashed the CWM again, the touch version. So, after installing it, I flashed the CM 12.1, the Gapps (only the play store), and in a while it was saying that the Play Store cashed, and I downloaded de PA Gapps and tried to install it normally, without wiping anything, and it Failed.
I searched the FAQ #6, I guess, I read that PA Gapps was supposed to be installed right after I install my ROM, and I opened the CWM Recovery and I don't remember exactly what I did, but I wiped everything that I saw, and then tried to flash the CM 12.1 again by the sdcard1, and it didn't work. I tried everything, seriously. And after a while, I tried to wipe dalvik cache, WHITOUT A SD CAR INSERTED, and it says: E: unkown volume for path [ sd-ext ]
And almost everything on the CWM that I try to do crashes, the back image of the CWM appears and then the cellphone reboot, in a bootloop, because there is no ROM flashed on it, because I wiped everything that I saw, and I'm not able to install anything.
MY CELLPHONE IS NOW A BRICK!!! haha
Please, help me. guys. I'll try to do everything that you guys will say.
Thanks!
