[Q] [Q Why is my charger taking forever? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

This is my first post on xda, but I figured y'all could tell me more than the people at Samsung could. Long story short, my phone charges, but it takes forever. My girlfriends began doing it about a week ago and she's on completely stock, touchwiz rom. (she's not that great with computers) I, however am on cyanogenmod 11 and it's been working great. I have no idea why it won't charge. Please help! It drives me crazy.

I recently had the same problem. Try using a different charger and see if that makes a difference. Mine connected to the computer ok, just took forever to charge. My problem was solved by replacing only the samsung usb wire with one I purchased from monoprice. Best part is they have a great warranty.

I had a very similar situation. Cable appeared to work fine and then suddenly had issue charging. The phone would recognize it as a charger, but by morning it was either not fully charger, or worse yet shut down. Simply changing the cable proved the older one was just shot ....

TF700 won't start up, DOA? Please help.

So, received my TF700T in the post today. Got all excited, went to start it up, and nothing....
Has been on charge for 3 hours now, and I still get nothing when trying to start it up.
The orange light near the power button is on, indicating the battery is charging, but no matter what I do, whether I hold the volume down with power, hold both volume buttons and power, it won't start up / boot.
The strange thing is, when I first tried to start it up, it wouldn't load, so I plugged it into power, and I got the ASUS post screen, then it turned off almost immediately (I presume as it had insufficient power). Since then, I have not even been able to get the ASUS post screen. If I hold the power button for 10 seconds, it will vibrate after 10 seconds, then nothing happens.
I have tried all the volume + power buttons described above, as well as trying to reset button.
Is the tablet DOA? Any suggestions for ways I might be able to get it started?
Try putting a pin in the pin hole above the HDMI.

Tried this already, and just tried again now. Nothing!
Its weird that if I hold the power button in for at least 10 seconds, at about the 10 second mark, the tablet vibrates, but nothing happens.
The charger light is now green on the tablet, and still nothing. Has been on charge for 5.5 hours now.
Unfortunately, It sounds like a DOA. It happens. Good to know now then 6 months down the road.

This...
Exchange it.
Haha, good old DOA. Mine took 6 weeks and the store gave up and just gave me store credit.
Return it!
I had exactly the same: on first boot it turned off after splash logo and I needed to use reset button to restart again.
long pressing just makes it vibrate but nothing more
And when it started, it crashed and rebooted all the time. Sometimes it went black and I had to reset it again
My replacement works perfectly, so yes it's a semy-DOA

JB have the Infinity in stock now, so you can use your JB voucher towards that if you wanted
Thanks for the replies all, I'll send it off this morning and update once I hear back from the seller (the joys of international dealings).
Mine bricked with the same exact symptoms after a week. Worked flawlessly up to that point. Waiting on the replacement to ship...

hi,
I was gonna open a new thread since my problem is based on charging but this thread pretty much is for the same use.
I got my tf700t yesterday through a friend visit from US. It has been nearly 2 weeks since he got it and he never charged the tab since he wasn't much of a user. So yesterday he brought it to me (i'm in TURKEY btw) and the tab was working pretty properly. But it's charge was near %4 so i plugged it on to its dock and plugged the usb charger to the dock via my PC. I just saw on the tabs screen that its charging so i left it there for like 12 hrs since it was its first charge. Then after nearly 12 hrs later this morning, i disconnected the charger and saw that the tab was off. I tried to turn it on but just like cjhod1 says, I got the ASUS post screen, then it turned off almost immediately. Different then cjhod1's case, no matter i plug on the charger or not my battery led near the power button is off for all times. So i guess this means it doesnt charge at all which was operating properly 12 hrs ago.
Strangest thing is my dock doesnt charge either. I tried every possible combination but couldn't manage to get it done. Even more strangely, after a one hour charging with nothing indicating it's actually charging (the orange battery led is off for all times) it managed to get a %1 of battery charge and opened. It managed to stay on for 10 seconds and then shut down once more for all.
It seems like a battery problem but what are the odds to lose both dock's and the tab's battery after one charge. And now that i'm in Turkey, and as far as i know, asus doesn't provide an international gurantee but only for US, i can't seem to get any service here. Unless any solutions to this matter occurs, i will have to ship it to the seller that i got from the Amazon. Every suggestions or helps appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The tablet CANNOT be charged via a USB port! Use the specific charger that came with the tablet. This will deliver the necessary 15V to the system to allow it to charge.

then how come i managed to charge it the first time i plugged it to the PC? And even if so, that is not any handy at all. I will have to carry not only the usb cable but also the adapter with me for all times to be able to charge the tablet. That is not an issue for ipad as far as i know.

It's not a big deal. It charges to full within 2 to 3 hours. Put the darn usb and adapter in your bag pack along with your tablet. It's not like it's a size of a water bottle or something. Charging through the usb is not ideal since it trickle charges and will take forever. Charge it through normal means first and see if it can hold a charge through your everyday use. If it does then your good to go. Then try charging again through pc. Honestly with the tablet keyboard combo you won't have to worry about not having enough battery life to last you the whole day regardless of what you use it for.

Did you get it to work?

Hi Bezendra, did you get it to work? I have the same problem. I'm in Vietnam, and whilst the tablet charges just fine, the dock seems totally Dead on Arrival and doesn't charge (no light, nothing). Warranty isn't really an option here so I need to troubleshoot this exhaustively before giving up. Did you discover the problem?
Speculation: I remember a friend who visited here once, and their externally powered USB hard drive didn't work in certain houses. I think it depended on the type of voltage regulator in the house. Did you discover anything similar?

Tablet Won't charge

I just got my tablet returned to me from Asus after the screen cracked. I got them to fix it no problem. I was also trying to get some repairs done on the keyboard dock but that shut off my tablet and sometimes smoke up. I decided then to return the keyboard to best buy and they let me exchange it for another one. The new keyboard worked fine and I was thinking all my previous problems were related to it. A few days ago I woke up and noticed my tablet and new keyboard were not charged all the way. I did not think much of it. That night I tried to charge both of them but neither device would charge. I figured it was the USB cord as one of the black edges fell off and it looked pretty warn. It would still charge, it was just the tablet said it was not charging and it seemed slower. I bought another USB cord from Amazon and tried to charge the tablet with that cord. At this point my tablet is actually dead. I am trying to charge it now but it still will not start up. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I may be able to fix it. I really enjoy using Android on my tablet but Asus hardware keeps falling apart on me.
Edit: I did manage to get it to start after I unplugged it. After it started, it told me the battery is at 0% and shut off. I am now trying the old cord now.
Edit2: The old one got it to 1% but again the charging is much slower then it use to be

[Q] Weird overheating issue

I've had my Nexus for a couple weeks and noticed early on that it would get incredibly hot in one particular spot on the back and wouldn't charge when I tried to charge it from the wall. I'd suspected my power board of being questionable for some time so I chalked it up to that and made a mental note to replace it. It charged perfectly fine via usb so I just did that.
A few days later I crashed at a friend's place and plugged it into his wall charger without thinking about it. The next morning I was really alarmed to find my phone was boiling hot but it cooled down when I unplugged it and seemed to work fine. It wasn't until that evening when I tried to charge it that I realized it now wouldn't charge via wall outlet OR usb OR connect to my computer and instead this one small area on the back would heat up to painful temperatures within 5-10 seconds of being plugged in. Cue panicking.
So I contacted the retailer I got it from to exchange it and during the time they took to get back to me thought "**** it" and ran down the battery. Then before replying to them I plugged it in again to verify it was still broken and for some reason it was back to normal!? It even seems to charge ok from the wall now.
So wtf happened? This still can't be normal, and I can't have a phone that randomly refuses to charge, but how can I convince them there's a problem? What the hell IS my problem? I can't find anyone else with my specific issue. What's the deal?
Do you have a case on it? If so which one?
Nope! Also, I had stock everything. I was planning to root it but now I can't since I might need my warranty... Been trying to reproduce the error but no dice. Kind of frustrating :/

LG G3 - Fried battery and/or charging port?

Let me lay down the story first:
It all started when I tried out multiROM for the LG G3. I was running cm12 perfectly fine, unlocked and everything. Amazing battery life. But MultiROM barely worked, even though I followed the instructions exactly, I had many errors trying to get anything to boot properly. I got help with it, but ended up getting rid of multirom via internal storage (where it was) and flashing a normal, non modified TWRP 2.8.4.0. This is where stuff starts getting weird.
After getting rid of multiROM and flashing cm12 again from backup, I noticed my phone wouldn't take a charge at all. It was booted up and running at about 30% battery. My PC wouldnt do anything when I plugged it into my computer, too. I thought it was just Cyan being weird, so I rebooted into twrp and tried plugging in. No buzz, still wouldn't take a charge. For some reason, turning the phone off and plugging in the charger while it was off actually turned it on. So the charging port has to be working, the phones just being weird... but then I decided to smell the charging port. Smells like pure burning electronics. I rebooted the phone with the cable plugged in, and it boots up and charges. This is odd, because i can no longer plug the cable in while the phone is on, i have to reboot it with the cable in now in order to get it to charge. I tried flashing back to stock ROM, and same exact issue happens. Not only that, but the battery no longer holds a charge for more than a day on one full charge. It lasts about 3-4 hours now.
Please, xdaers, help a brotha out. I'm really pissed about whatever the hell is happening to my G3. It still works fine, I just have to reboot it with the cable in in order to get it to charge at all and the battery life sucks on top of that.
Note: One time after all this happened, the phone died fully. Plugging the charger in, the battery logo was flashing on and off. I tried multiple cables and chargers with the same problem. I pulled out the battery with the cable still in, and the battery logo actually stayed on the screen and once I put the battery back in, it charged again. THIS IS MAJORLY CONFUSING and hard to explain so I will clarify my issue if you are confused with my post.
Also, the phone likes to get really hot and die fast by itself even without the charger plugged in now.
thanks guys
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA assist. Please standby while we have your thread/question moved to the appropriate sub-forum for your device.

Good luck!
So you flashtooled back to stock? And still persists? If so you next option is to buy both a battery and a charging port and do some trouble shooting.

Don't know about the charging port, but as far as battery life I'm getting the same thing, except mine lasts about 2 hours, I've decided I'm selling the phone while its still worth a bit of money, probably getting a Note 2 or Xperia Z2, I've been very unhappy with this phone, also my battery cover is falling apart and cracking,

Well I've had none of your problems. Note 2 or z2 is a downgrade. Have fun with that... Sucks your experience hasn't been a good one. Cheers

I get 13+ hours with 4 to 5 hours screen on time and 1to 2 hours of talk time. So I don't think your battery issue is normal for this phone. You have either a defective battery or phone or an app that is misbehaving.
I'm having the exact same problem with LG G3.
Can only charge when rebooted. And even then the charge indicator does not show charging.
I have to go into setting->battery where it shows 'charging'
I have tried new battery and cleaning port.
Anyone figure this out...?
My battery drained very fast before too after backed up to stock, but after I upgraded to 5.0, my phone can lives up to next morning!

OnePlus One Charging Issue (URGENT)

Hi Everyone here at XDA,
I've been a keen follower of the various ongoings at XDA, ever since my first Android phone the Motorola Defy. I've had quite a few phones since then (currently rocking a yet unmodified Nexus 6P) and I've mucked about with all of them, soft bricked a couple but I've always found a way back from the dead. However, this is something that has me well and truly mystified.
My fiancé bought a OnePlus One a little over a year ago, she had some problems with the microphone during phonecalls (most likely the issue a lot of people had with the noise-cancelling mess-up) so I switched her from stock onto CyanogenMod 13, and no problems since. Phone works a charm.
But recently everything has been going south.
About two months ago the phone started charging STUPIDLY slowly, so I used an energy monitor you plug into the socket to see what was going on. Charger would pull about 2-4 watts, but if you kept plugging and unplugging the phone eventually it would pull about 8 watts, which was adequate. Then things got worse. With the phone turned on, the charger would pull barely 2 watts, turn it off, immediately it would pull 9 watts.
Now it's started to randomly reboot, sometimes getting stuck in a bootloop for 5-10 minutes before booting again. I've spent all day today flashing various ROM's and kernels, and still the issue persists.
We've tried the phone with different chargers to the same result.
Has anybody got any idea what's wrong with the bloomin' thing?
Any advice on what I could try would be massively appreciated.
Cheers in advance

Different cables as well? The cable seriously does make or break it.
If not that, not sure what it could be... What I can say is, replacing the battery isn't terribly difficult, so if you suspect that at all, it's a fix you can do yourself and for pretty cheap.

Thanks for the advice, but sadly it's not the cable. Or the charger for that matter. The readings I get from the energy meter are too consistent. After plugging and unplugging several times the phone will eventually pull EXACTLY 3.8 watts. No more, no less, irregardless of battery percentage. As soon as the phone is turned off and plugged in, starts pulling anywhere from 7 - 12 watts, which is normal pull I expect.
Hence why I suspected a dodgy kernel, but no luck :'(
Hello
Hello, I had a not that much similar problem a month ago but i'm sharing and it might help (you never know). I was on a custom CM13 based rom and phone started overheating even when not in use, charging slow. When I let it charge overnight I would find it very hot and almost always stuck and 99%. Clean flashed different roms and the same continued to happen and it really got me worried!
Than I thought before ordering a new battery or charger lets try something really stock. I installed lastest OxygenOS and viola problem went away. (be careful and follow the steps you need to flash OxygenOS, it is NOT recommended you flash it via twrp). After that flashed twrp again and custom roms and havent had that problem again.
Hope it helps
Yeah, I would say your most probable culprit at this point might just be the OS. Try a clean flash and/or a different nightly or release. Try also a different Gapps package (you never know if it's not so much the OS, but maybe an interaction between OS and other software.

Thanks for the advice, I've finally managed to free up an evening tonight so I'll try putting the phone back to stock. Hopefully it'll work! I'll post back to let you know if I've had any luck.
Put the phone back to stock Oxygen OS, and no luck. Going to use the Tamper Reset Script and try sending it back to Oneplus. Makes me sad that I couldn't sort it myself :crying:
