My TF pad charges just fine, so there is not any problem with the charger. However, the dock does not charge at all. Even after 12 hours plugged into the wall with the unit turned off, the orange light is still flashing when I boot up. This might be a problem with the firmware. I am running:
HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511
I read somewhere that I should reflash the firmware. I have downloaded this version of the firmware onto a USB drive and the TF recognizes it but will not open the zip file.
What are the steps required to reinstall this firmware? Does anyone know of any other ways to fix the charging problem? The ASUS support site is nearly worthless. I humbly apologize in advance for my ignorance and thank anyone who responds.
that is the Build Number, and mine is the same and I updated everything correctly so it looks like you have the most updated version.
My MobileDock version is EP101-0209
It might be an issue with the dock charger, a hardware issue, the battery may have stopped working, we never know...
if it's a firmware issue, give Asus CS a call and ask them what to do next or how to properly install it.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? My keyboard has stopped charging as well.
Same for me unfortunately

I had the same issue and had to unplug and wait, switched outlets and it's fine now.
There is definetely something wrong.
Maybe it's designed to fully charge the tablet first then start topping off the dock.
I had the same issue - constant flashing orange led no matter what configuration I tried.. TF docked, TF not docked, TF docked powered on, TF docked power off, change outlets, let it sit for hours and hours (over 24 at one point) etc etc
Nothing worked.
And like yours, my TF always charged - whether docked or not.
Called Asus - w/o even asking any questions they just directed me to the RMA dept.
Instead I just returned it to Amazon and then waited until I could order another one. It took nearly a week, but they finally came back in stock on Amazon (for an hour) and I ordered another.
It should be here Wednesday, so by then I'll know FOR SURE whether it was the first dock that was bad - or if it's my charger / cable.
I'll post back once the new one gets here..
My keyboard is waiting for UPS pickup for a Newegg RMA. The keyboard is deactivated at Newegg now. I'm wondering if they will wait for more stock or give me a refund. I'm just glad I still have the tablet.
Does anyone know how widespread the dock charging problem is, and if newer units have any changes to fix this?
The docks were scarce here in Taiwan, still are. That must be an indication something is rotten in Denmark and Asus knows and are working on it.
Updating from my earlier post: My new keyboard / dock arrived yesterday. When I plugged it in, the LED was solid orange (ironically, this LED looks a lot more "red" whereas on my other dock it was definitely "orange").
I charged it for 8 hours and the LED turned green during the charging time.
So at this point I can definitely say that it was the dock that went bad and would not charge - as opposed to the charger being bad.
I would advise just returning your dock to the place of purchase if it's no longer charging.
Be interesting to see if those having charging problems with the dock have an orange or red led. I have had no issues, but my led definitely looks red. When the charger is charging, it gets very warm (hot). If your dock has been plugged into the charger for more than 20 mins and the charger is not very warm, it probably isn't charging.
Just wanted to update my previous post (2 up) because now my second dock is dead.
Under normal usage everything would worked fine - the battery would drain and then charge - no problems at all.
HOWEVER - There appears to be BIG problem with these docks and I feel this is what is causing (or contributing to) my docks dying. These things have a constant drain on them when the Transformer tablet is attached - even if you power the tablet OFF.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112835
I believe what is happening in my case is that the dock battery drains to a point where it will no longer accept a charge. In both cases, I had the tablet docked to the keyboard - powered OFF - and did not use it for a week or so. When I went to power it on, the tablet/dock had just enough juice to tell me that the battery was very low (I believe around 1%) and that it needed to be charged - and then it shut down.
OK, fine, no problem. I plugged it in to charge and left it.
The tablet charged up to 100% with no issues, however 72 hours later and again I have a keyboard dock with a constant blinking orange LED that will not charge. Again, I tried charging it with the tablet attached and without - no change. The adapter doesn't even heat up when trying to charge which again tells me that something in the battery on the dock is not accepting the charge.
Looks like this one will be going back to Amazon as well. I'll also contact Asus regarding the issue and will report back what I hear.
Hello,
I Have the same behaviour, everything were fine until I unplug the dock during several days and the charge was down at 0%.
Now, I 'm unable to charge the dock with or without the tablet plugged
I hope that it's only a firmware issue.....................

Sorry to hear it, but thanks for letting us know.
I have a bad feeling that this is an issue that is going to end up biting MANY users after their return period has expired. It seems that the huge majority of TF owners use their tablets / docks nearly every day - if not daily - so they won't run into this problem.
I'm concerned that after a month or so and some of the excitement has worn off, and they put their TF/dock away for several days suddenly their dock will be rendered useless (at least as far as the extra battery goes).
I've just sent a note off to Asus (per their request from my Amazon review) and I'll let you know what I hear back.
OK
thanks you for your action !! and to keep us informed.
For me, a lot of people are concerned ..... as you said...
i have same question too
My dock has same problem, have tried with or without tablet recharging, the led of dock is always blinking red when tablet connected, and dual battery widiget always display it's discharging and slow draining from 40% to 35% now.
In order to consolidate and try to keep this issue in one thread, I'll only be updating this thread going forward: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112835
I just added my latest correspondence with Asus on the matter, but unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm really getting through to anyone of quality over there..
gents,
just wanted to add my possible fix for this issue.
I had this probem and my dock would not charge. Somehow i got it working again. Here are the steps i took, not sure what fixed it in the end but you could try and replicate and see how you get on.
1. I went to charge my keyboard on its own. I left it charging for hours and it was still flashing red.
2. docked the keyboard and the power widgets showed no juice within the dock althought it worked as a keyboard.
3. I plugged the power in the dock while docked and on. It showed that it was charging the tablet but not the dock. The dock stayed at 0%.
4. I left the two charging while on for a few hours. The tablet was now showing as charged but nothing still in the dock. I then shut down the device with a turn off but left the power and the dock in. As i shut down the light on the side went to solid red and stayed solid red while the device was off.
5. I left the device off but with the charger in the docked keyboard for about 10 minutes. I then turned the device on while docked and still charging. When the device turned on the battery widgets showed the dock with 35% charge. i left the device alone for a while on and dokced and charging and after about 10 minutes the dock charge started going up. I left the dock charge while the on the tablet was on and docked until the dock was charged to 100%. I then turned the tablet off. took the charger out and undocked. Turned the tablet on while on its own. Then docked it with the dock with no charger in and da daaar the keyboard showed 100% charge and was working......yea!
This is what I figured out, not sure if it's actually true but whenever I did some huge data transfer from the datacable computer --> tablet afterwards it wouldn't charge... so I had to leave it unplugged for over 6 hours adapater and cable, then tried again and it works... still going to go visit the local asus warranty center sigh.
It looks like the battery on my TF is refusing to charge. Started all of a sudden last night. I tried to turn it on and it didn't come on even though I didn't use it much,so I figured the battery may have drained somehow. I plugged the charger and sure enough I was able to boot the transformer but the battery is not charging and it displays an exclamation mark on the battery icon. It is showing 0% charge for over a day now even though I had it plugged in all this time. I tried turning it off and keeping it on but it doesn't make any difference and it doesn't charge. I tried full factory reset but it didn't help. The exclamation point stays on the battery icon and it is not charging. It works when plugged in but shut off as soon as I unplug. I don't think it is the charger because the same charger charges the dock just fine. So I am afraid that it must be the tablet issue. Any suggestions before I start the RMA process? Thanks.
That's weird. Mine started doing the same thing in the last day as well. Won't charge either when plugged in via the dock or the tablet.
Anyone got any ideas?
Edit to add: Ah, got it working. Seems that unplugging the adaptor and waiting half an hour seems to reset some trip or other. Odd, because it doesn't seem too hot when I leave it plugged in.

Good for you... unfortunately this trick doesn't work for mine. Had it unplugged fo hours, plugged it back in and same thing. The dock charges fine so I don't think it is an adapter. The TF is not charging if plugged in or docked on the kb. Tried to take off adapter prongs and re-seat it and still same problem. Adapter doesn't seem hot at all.
I had a question mark as well. I ended up sending it in. It did happen right after the battery was very low and I tried to turn it on, while the adapter for some reason was not connecting (it happens every now and then that mine does not connect). So I think it had something to do with that - battery got too low.
In addition the tablet was no longer recognizing the dock - it would just show the question mark and the dock did not work.
Anyway, I sent mine in, and requested they address the battery drain issue (which at that point was just announced in the Asus Facebook UK page). Came back fixed ... first the tablet - and they found no problem with it, then the dock about a week or little more later - cambe back working with no battery drain issue.

Thanks for the response, not sure if you had a typo or if you had something different. I actually have an exclamation point (!) not a question mark on mine. Just called ASUS support to get an RMA. Was on hold for close to 40 minutes until someone finally picked up. The guy was like a robot, but I guess it was expected. Told him about charging issue with TF and about my dock not switching to battery saving mode (I have one of the first models) and he said to send both in for repairs. I asked if I should use the original packaging he said I was responsible for packaging. I said I understand that and if I use the original boxes from TF and dock, will I get them back? He said no... I guess I will just have to wrap them well and use other boxes. I am wondering how others sent them and if you got your original boxes back. I mean it has serial number and other numbers on it that I may need.
A few hours ago my girlfriend was just looking at her Triumph (was watching for messages so she wasn't actually doing anything on it) when the screen turned off. Now it wont turn back on. Have tried the power button, turning on the bootloader, and removing the battery for 5 minutes. No matter what we can't get the phone to turn back on. Any ideas on what has just happened? The phone is rooted with gingerbreak with titanium backup installed. That's it. We got the phone at Best Buy and this is our second phone. We're probably past our 30 days so this kind of bugs me! Any idea what we can do from here? Any other tricks to try?
As a quick update, Best Buy tells me that an Exchange counts as an original transaction. So I'm only 17 days into my "new" transaction. I can't believe neither of these Triumphs have lasted more than three weeks :\
Did you have it connected to the charger while using it? I have noticed it gets very hot even without the charger being plugged in. It may have over heated. Just a thought. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

No, the charger wasn't connected at the time. It was just sitting there with the screen on. The Significant Other wonder why it wouldn't turn off so she hit the power button and it didn't do anything. Finally the screen just went black but the backlight was still obviously on so she pulled the battery and put it back in. From there, she pushed the power button and the virgin mobile logo came on and nothing else. She had to remove the battery again. She put the battery back in once more and was able to get the Virgin mobile logo one more time. It froze after the logo and she pulled the battery one more time. After that the phone refused to turn on at all. When connected to the charger it doesn't do anything. Still completely lights out on the phone.
Man that sucks. I hope your able to find a fix.

Same thing happened to me the other day. I let my Triumph lose all its battery to charge it back up 100% (performing a full battery charge cycle), and it will no longer turn on. even when I have it plugged in the red light indicator will not light up most of the time.
Funny thing is, this is also my second exchange from best buy and luckily im still within 30 days and i have a replacement plan. I really suggest getting the replacement plan (its $30, good for a $300 phone), because unlike best buys other mobile protection plans, you dont pay monthly, you're covered for 2 years, and if you get tired of getting the same phone, they will give you a $300 store credit card.
You know my phone did something similar, my phone died and when i went to plug up the charger i got nothing. I think there might be something wrong with the charging ports on these phones, try wiggling the charger while its plugged in, thats what i did and it finally took a charge

upon closer inspection of the charging port, i noticed the female micro usb port was actually pushed further inside, thus preventing most chargers to work. I found a rocketfish charging adapter from best buy that seems to work perfect while my other cable didnt work at all.
As an update, we went back to best buy and sure enough they count the exchange as a new transaction, so I was only 17 days into my second transaction. They exchanged me another phone on the spot and so now we're on the third triumph. GPS checked out ok and the MEID was the correct length. The screen is the worst of the 3 (some pretty bad backlight bleed out onto the screen itself from the sides). I was picky about it but the gf isn't since you can't even see it unless the screen is completely black. So we'll see how this one holds out!
My guess is as was assumed, the battery wasn't getting charged. When the battery was removed for 30 minutes or more we were able to get the logo to show up and nothing more. My guess was the charger wasn't making contact anymore. We wouldn't want to keep a phone like that anyways but it seems like this might be a problem for these phones.
Every once in awhile mine will not power back on. It happened to me a couple of times shortly after I bought the phone.
I tried pulling the battery a couple of times and powering back up, no go.
What worked... remove battery, press power button for a couple of secs, replace battery, power back up. Has worked every time... so far.
My guess is need to drain some capacitors or that I had invoked part of boot recovery sequence without finishing?

Have you noticed the "I just broke my Triumph's Screen"- post? We'll If you saw my cracked Triumph, well that's another issue that I just discovered. The battery drained all the way and now it will not take a charge anymore. This is the exact same problem OP is having. Regarding this issue I will open up my phone sooner or later when I get a new one and take pics. I don't mind seeing wth is in there, maybe everything's held up by Elmer's glue lol. I'll make sure to let everyone know hopefully I'll do this within a couple days.
It seems like dead
If Motorola and VMUSA are not serious about resolving issues for Triumph then this phone will be dead anyways - customers won't be buying those. The number of returns are far more than new purchase. It seems like Motorola stopped manufacturing these.
So this phone will either get Ice Cream Sandwich update or it is end of life for this phone.
So, received my TF700T in the post today. Got all excited, went to start it up, and nothing....
Has been on charge for 3 hours now, and I still get nothing when trying to start it up.
The orange light near the power button is on, indicating the battery is charging, but no matter what I do, whether I hold the volume down with power, hold both volume buttons and power, it won't start up / boot.
The strange thing is, when I first tried to start it up, it wouldn't load, so I plugged it into power, and I got the ASUS post screen, then it turned off almost immediately (I presume as it had insufficient power). Since then, I have not even been able to get the ASUS post screen. If I hold the power button for 10 seconds, it will vibrate after 10 seconds, then nothing happens.
I have tried all the volume + power buttons described above, as well as trying to reset button.
Is the tablet DOA? Any suggestions for ways I might be able to get it started?
Try putting a pin in the pin hole above the HDMI.

Tried this already, and just tried again now. Nothing!
Its weird that if I hold the power button in for at least 10 seconds, at about the 10 second mark, the tablet vibrates, but nothing happens.
The charger light is now green on the tablet, and still nothing. Has been on charge for 5.5 hours now.
Unfortunately, It sounds like a DOA. It happens. Good to know now then 6 months down the road.

Exchange it.
Haha, good old DOA. Mine took 6 weeks and the store gave up and just gave me store credit.
Return it!
I had exactly the same: on first boot it turned off after splash logo and I needed to use reset button to restart again.
long pressing just makes it vibrate but nothing more
And when it started, it crashed and rebooted all the time. Sometimes it went black and I had to reset it again
My replacement works perfectly, so yes it's a semy-DOA

JB have the Infinity in stock now, so you can use your JB voucher towards that if you wanted
Thanks for the replies all, I'll send it off this morning and update once I hear back from the seller (the joys of international dealings).
Mine bricked with the same exact symptoms after a week. Worked flawlessly up to that point. Waiting on the replacement to ship...

hi,
I was gonna open a new thread since my problem is based on charging but this thread pretty much is for the same use.
I got my tf700t yesterday through a friend visit from US. It has been nearly 2 weeks since he got it and he never charged the tab since he wasn't much of a user. So yesterday he brought it to me (i'm in TURKEY btw) and the tab was working pretty properly. But it's charge was near %4 so i plugged it on to its dock and plugged the usb charger to the dock via my PC. I just saw on the tabs screen that its charging so i left it there for like 12 hrs since it was its first charge. Then after nearly 12 hrs later this morning, i disconnected the charger and saw that the tab was off. I tried to turn it on but just like cjhod1 says, I got the ASUS post screen, then it turned off almost immediately. Different then cjhod1's case, no matter i plug on the charger or not my battery led near the power button is off for all times. So i guess this means it doesnt charge at all which was operating properly 12 hrs ago.
Strangest thing is my dock doesnt charge either. I tried every possible combination but couldn't manage to get it done. Even more strangely, after a one hour charging with nothing indicating it's actually charging (the orange battery led is off for all times) it managed to get a %1 of battery charge and opened. It managed to stay on for 10 seconds and then shut down once more for all.
It seems like a battery problem but what are the odds to lose both dock's and the tab's battery after one charge. And now that i'm in Turkey, and as far as i know, asus doesn't provide an international gurantee but only for US, i can't seem to get any service here. Unless any solutions to this matter occurs, i will have to ship it to the seller that i got from the Amazon. Every suggestions or helps appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The tablet CANNOT be charged via a USB port! Use the specific charger that came with the tablet. This will deliver the necessary 15V to the system to allow it to charge.

then how come i managed to charge it the first time i plugged it to the PC? And even if so, that is not any handy at all. I will have to carry not only the usb cable but also the adapter with me for all times to be able to charge the tablet. That is not an issue for ipad as far as i know.

It's not a big deal. It charges to full within 2 to 3 hours. Put the darn usb and adapter in your bag pack along with your tablet. It's not like it's a size of a water bottle or something. Charging through the usb is not ideal since it trickle charges and will take forever. Charge it through normal means first and see if it can hold a charge through your everyday use. If it does then your good to go. Then try charging again through pc. Honestly with the tablet keyboard combo you won't have to worry about not having enough battery life to last you the whole day regardless of what you use it for.

Hi Bezendra, did you get it to work? I have the same problem. I'm in Vietnam, and whilst the tablet charges just fine, the dock seems totally Dead on Arrival and doesn't charge (no light, nothing). Warranty isn't really an option here so I need to troubleshoot this exhaustively before giving up. Did you discover the problem?
Speculation: I remember a friend who visited here once, and their externally powered USB hard drive didn't work in certain houses. I think it depended on the type of voltage regulator in the house. Did you discover anything similar?
Hey guys. So a month ago I was using my device like normal and noticed it was getting a little low on battery. I put it up for the night and started to charge it. The next morning I pulled if off the charge and noticed that the unit did not want to turn on. I figured that I had it plugged into my phone charger and since the TF700 is a pain and only likes certain charges I checked and plugged it into the OEM charger and left the unit there to charge while I went into work.
I got home that day and realized that the tablet was not charging at all. I figured that the sync/charge port got messed up, since I have 3 LARGE dogs that constantly hit things off the table, so I did what any XDA member would do, pulled up iFixit, and tore apart the unit to get the part number on the cable.
A week later I get the part in and swap everything out and guess what, still nothing. I had the unit plugged in over night and nothing at all. No LED lights turn on or anything.
Finally, I decided to pull my brothers TF700 apart to check the cable and both the ones I have work....soooo ???
What else can I do? I might just part everything out but really just want to get the unit working again.
Thanks in advance.
