[Q] KK4.4.2 Missing Notification / Unresponsiveness - HTC Sensation

First of all, appreciate android1234567 for bringing us the latest version of Android to our Sensation.
However, I found that my device was stuffing from these scenarios:
Device become unresponsive after typical usage (e.g. unable to lock screen, switch to other application, unlock the device). In this situation, the device "hang up", showing the same scren until (Reboot was triggered from power button or removal of battery) Refer to 20140116 logcat
Missing notification (Download Triggered from internal browser doesn't visible in the notifiction bar, but visible in the Downloads app, Refer to 20140117 logcat
WhatsApp failed to create daily backup
unable to install some apk (such as adobe flash player - I hate to use this app, but may website require this damn thing ; is that SeLinux related)
edit : it seems that the first scenario was caused by the second one, since after reboot the missing notification appeared immediately

Strange "box" on the task bar (Win6.5, Htc Sense 2.1)

Hi
I've got a strange problem, that appeared last week, without any particular reason. Actually, I just launch a program (Scumm, an emulator for some abandonware games) on my HTC Touch Pro 2, then I quit.
After this quit, here's the problem :
Some icons on the task bar are masked by a sort of box. I say "masked" instead of "disappeared" because one of them is just masked at 50%, and the "sound icon" (mute / volume) appears for 1 second when I raise up or down the sound. I still see the button for closing or switching applications, and I see the Wifi icon.
When I change the wallpaper, the "hiding box" changes color too. So, it's not really black.
Finally, the problem appears also in "landscape" mode.
Soft reset doesn't solve the problem. I've tryed to restore a recent backup... but my version of "Sprite Backup" is finished, so I can't restore any backup made with it... :-/ I don't wan't to do a hard reset, because I don't have other backups.
Have you ever meet (and solved ?) this problem ?
Thanks in advance
PS : sorry for my poor english
A screen shot would help. You've probably got some program starting up automatically and running in the background. Check your Startup folder.
Ok, I'll try to make a screenshot this evening (I'm at work now, and I don't have my USB cable).
Or, is there a way to do it directly with the phone, without additional software ?
In the windows/startup folder ("démarrage" in french), i've got this :
- BTTtrayCE.lnk
- poutlook.lnk
- PKG.lnk
- HTCStartUp.lnk
- DelWMPTempFolder.lnk
seems to be normal.
Here's some screenshots in attached files.
Notice 3 things :
- the network icon is cut
- In the third screen, I've succeeded in displaying the "sound icon" by pressing the "volume button". But the icon just appears 1 second.
- there is not enough place to put the "battery icon" or the Time/Date.
Any idea, anybody ?
have you tried un-installing the programs you are suspecting that is causing the problem?
Actually, I've removed every program I had installed these few days (not so much : sprite backup trial, skyfire and The Core Media Player).
But it didn't change anything.
The problems appears just after launching the software "scummVM" (but it wasn't the first time i was launching it), but this software wasn't "installed". I directly launch it from the files in my storage card.

Ultimate ics for motorola milestone - bugs and issues

Hello Users!
This is the thread only about the bugs and issues that are found in the Custom ROM Ultimate ICS developed for Motorola Milestone A853 by iceandfire
Since the original forum is little old and few bugs are not still mentioned, I will mention about the these bugs.
These bugs are found out after few weeks of testing. The ROM is smooth than other ICS based ROM's available. So if you don't find any bugs you are lucky, but as far as I know, I have seen others having the same issue who have ported this ROM to their Motorola Milestone.
May be we did followed a wrong procedure in flashing the ROM, so this thread is solely intended to mention the bugs we are having so that we can know the solution and the fix.
Thank You.
The Actual Device we tested this ROM is Motorola Milestone A853, with open recovery (2nd boot), vulnerable recovery flashed with RSD lite and for more space and performance the SD card is partitioned.
NOTE: THE BUGS AND ISSUES ARE NOT FIXED YET. SO IF YOU ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES PLEASE CONTACT DEVELOPER TO FIX IT.
1)WIDGET BUTTONS IN NOTIFICATION BAR NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.
The widget buttons that can be enabled in notification bar i.e, toogling WiFi, Bluetooth, Sound etc are not functioning properly. The buttons appear in the notification bar but they fail to activate/deactivate the function.
2) KEYBOARD APPEARANCE WHILE TYPING IN BROWSER SHOWS A HALF BLACK SCREEN OR KEYBOARD WILL NOT APPEAR AT ALL.
The keyboard functionality is yet to be fixed. If we want to type address in address bar in a browser such as opera or UC, sometimes keyboard will not appear at all when we tap in address bar or if it appears it makes the screen half black.
Luckily Milestone has physical qwerty keypad with which we managed, but even switching to manual keyboard by sliding the mobile makes the screen half black many times. We cant see what we are typing.
3) MESSAGING APP NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED EVERY TIME
The messaging app provided by developer is for fixing the black appearance of inbox messages which is making the message unreadable. But the fix is not actually complete. If you reboot your device after installing the MMS.apk we are getting the same black screen again and we have to install the app again and again to read the messages. This bug not only appears after rebooting, it also appears without rebooting.
4) PROFILES OPTIONS IN SETTINGS ARE NOT FULLY DEVEOPED
Switching to profiles like general, silent, meeting etc are not available in the Profile settings. All we can see under profiles tab is "Preference Stub - Temporary placeholder until functionality merged".
Even the same dialogue is seen in Themes section.
5) RESTRICTING BACKGROUND DATA IS NOT POSSIBLE
Restricting background mobile data to save battery is not possible. When we tried to enable restrict background data it popup's a message "restricting background data is possible only when you set mobile data limit". But there is no option to set data limit.
These are the major bugs we faced with this ROM. If we are wrong and if we only are facing these bugs, your help is greatly appreciated.
And if you are facing the same problems, hope developer will fix them soon.
Thank You.

[SOLVED] Limited functionality

This thread was originally titled "System wide problems", please see the reply for the solution.
Original post:
"Hi all,
Been forever since I've made a post to XDA, but I have a problem I'm not able to solve without taking an inconvenient plunge. I should mention that my phone was 100% fine yesterday evening, but since I was asleep last night it seems to have run out of battery, so this morning I charged it a bit, then I turned it on to a world of problems.
Ok, so let me run through a list of just a handful of the problems I'm having right now...
Totally stock (not rooted) Nexus 5 running Android 6.0.1 (Security: 1 March 2016)
1. Home and App switch soft keys don't work
2. Notifcations are not working at all
3. Notification shade wont pull down
4. Widgets cannot, and will not load
5. Cannot get into Developer options "Developer options are not available for this user"
Seems I'm not the only one to experience the strange bug, some folks over at Android Central were experiencing the exact same thing toward the end of last year.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...me-button-not-working-many-more-problems.html
Some people to have resolved this issue using "adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardTestActivity" but I cannot get into Developer options to turn on USB Debugging (unless I don't need to?)
What I've tried already...
1. Cleared all Google App data "CLEAR ALL DATA"
2. Tried to make another user, just flashes and goes back to "Opula" my main and broken user profile, never creates the other profile, same thing happens when I press on Guest too
3. Safe mode, but the problem persists there too
4. Virus scan, turned up a whole lot of nothing
I'm now at the point where I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a Factory data reset (the "inconvenient plunge"), even though I think I've backed everything up the "Touch to sync" option on my Account > Google doesn't do anything, neither does the "Sync now" from the drop down menu. So despite having explored my Google account on my desktop I cannot see if it has backed up my Apps and App data, but it seems to have backed up my contacts and such.
I'm going to get a third party app to back up as stuff as I possibly can as well, but even Helium is useless now since I cannot get into the Developer options so enable USB debugging.
Anyone got any experience with this issue or how to resolve it?
Many thanks to everyone in advance."
Hi all,
Just wanted to update this thread to say that I did a factory reset and the phone is now fixed, but I wouldn't to give a more comprehensive account of the problems I was experiencing with the phone until I did the factory reset.
List of problems
Home and app-switch soft keys not working (back key is working)
Google Now 'on tap' not appearing (cause of home key)
Cannot see notifications just says "No notifications" (but the light and sound work fine when a notification is received)
Cannot pull down notification shade to toggle controls
Widgets cannot be added and will not load
Cannot pull down the immersive mode overlay
Google Backup not working (after 8+ days)
All types of syncing not working
Phone's storage doesn't appear on PC when plugged in via USB
Cannot access developer options (due to active profile level)
Cannot create or switch users
The best advice I can give to mitigate such an unusual problem (that appeared totally out of the blue on a cold boot) is use Google Backup services, keep on top of syncing, and manage your data via your Google account! Or as an alternative, manage and maintain manual backups.

[BUG][6.0.1 Stock]Home Button Ignored and Other Perfidious Symptoms

This mean bug hit us twice, so that it might be helpful do document it in order to help other persons with the same problems.
Symptoms:
Home button does no longer work.
Notifications and notification pulldown menu do not work (as consequence, data transfer via USB cable is impossible).
Quick settings do not work.
Factory reset does not work.
Developer mode cannot be enabled (as a consequence, no adb connection possible).
Automatic orientation disabled after every reboot.
Mobile data enabled (!) after every reboot (very funny if you pay 0,23 EUR per megabyte and do not notice...)
When changing volume using the physical keys, the device sometimes reboots.
This list is not necessarily complete, as there might be more symptoms.
According to various investigations (see links below) the system thinks that the Setup Wizard is still running. This bug presumably was introduced with some Android version (Oct 2015), came to the Moto G, and when the bug was removed, the Moto G did not get the corrected OS version.
When does the problem appear?
There are strong indications that the problem always occurs whenever the device runs out of (flash) memory. Note that our device did not have an SD when the problem appeared.
How can one heal the device?
There have been some recommendations how to repair the phone (see links below):
Change user
Run the SetupWizardTestActivity via adb
Run some additional command (see below) via adb.
Run the SetupWizardTestActivity via Nova Launcher.
Factory reset via Recovery.
What did really help?
In fact all methods 1 .. 4 failed, because no adb connection could be established (see Topic 5. of the symptoms), and the Setup Wizard got to an endless loop when I started it via Nova Launcher. So finally I used the Recovery system to reset the device.
If anybody ran into the same trap or has a better solution, please tell!

How to reset the Moto G
Reflash stock image via fastboot... if it continues to fail and you followed all instructions EXACTLY, your handset is defective, get it repaired or replace it.
The "setup wizard" bug is a known, but extremely rare, issue... but the symptoms are not the same as what you are experiencing. Home/Back/Recent buttons do not work -AND- the notification pull down do not work, in every case reported simply re-running setup wizard corrects the issue.
symptoms same , root reason may differ
Tenebrous sound thy words, and partially enigmatic is their meaning.
In fact:
- I forgot to mention the non-working notification pulldown menu, so I added this in post #1.
- Thus the noticed symptoms exactly match those described in the links I provided.
- However, the root reason might subtly differ, and, additionally, all proposed therapies except factory reset failed in our case.
- It might help to re-flash the stock or flash an alternative image to cure the device, but it was not necessary in our case, so it's not really a better solution.
I found this Lenovo Moto G3 forum dealing with the same problem:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/MOTO-G...cations-and-lock-screen-not-work/td-p/3255406
Post #9 mentions "my storage was running out".
Here is another one, for a slightly different device:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/MOTO-X...on-notifications-lock-screen-not/td-p/3354948
hey to chime in, I've got the same situatrion as of a few days ago on my Motorola Droid Maxx 2. WISH I could find a root exploit for this damned thing. I hate dealing with issues on it. Who has time for this garbage? I plan to do a factory reset (or try while expecting a failure as noted in original post here.)
Thanks for documenting your issue Ahkah as it at least has helped me feel OK about myself here. Excellent choice of wording. To the other poster, why do you speak so authoritatively to say that if _____, phone is defective? That's annoying and not true unless somehow here at android-is-still-interesting.com "defective phone" means "I dont know what happened."
What I have in common to your described condition:
- ran "low" on storage according to pop up.
- used some feature offering to "clean" hard disk or whatever. This may have been in FX file browser or else a native android feature or else a motorola app feature. Unfortunately dont recall. One of the few options it gave was to clear cache of all apps. Seemed risky to me but I hit it any way. This may have been the root cause.
- notification pull down reads only "no notifications."
- circle and square softkeys do nothing but give the visual feedback or sometimes vibration feedback that acknowledges the button press.
- pulling down from top of screen while bnotification area is already pulled down does nothing whereas normally it would open quick actions.
- searching /system for "wizard" comes back with a lot of results for apks, all of which do nothing, throw error, or install more of themselves.
- clicking developer options tells me that dev options are not available for this user. As far as I can tell there are no other users on my phone.
- clicking build number or whichever item in about phone multiple times to enable dev options does nothing.
- volume buttons to act funky and while fiddling with the phone that was one of the few things i was doing. simultaneously the phone was repeatedly rebooting. maybe correlated but i dont know i was messing with everything i knew to try.
Additional observations:
- phone takes a long time to boot up on some power off/ power ons.
- phone largely works if i could somehow ignore all the above.
- phone sometimes reboots mid-boot animation
- all above is observed after freeing up 3 gb on internal memory and i've had multiple gb free on sd card throughout issue.
I hate you motorola. I hate you google. I hate you verizon. I hate you CIA and NSA. I hate you United States. I hate you capitalism. I hate you imperialism. I hate you western world. I hate you ideology. I hate you technology. I DONT EVEN WANT A PHONE and this is how i get to spend an hour today.

Fxtec Pro1 SystemUI keeps stopping, lockscreen loop, adb available, Signal Backup

After the battery ran out my Fxtec Pro1 stock Android (rooted) is in a lockscreen loop: I enter my PIN, the screen turns black and then it's back to the lockscreen.
Occasionally it manages to go a step further and show a dialogue "SystemUI keeps stopping". Any touch event or keyboard event returns it to the lockscreen. The same behaviour happens in Safe Mode.
I have debugging enabled and adb authorized, I have TitaniumBackup and was able to pull the TitaniumBackup files, as well as the internal storage. So mostly everything is good, except that I'd like to get a backup of my Signal Messenger chat history.
My questions:
1) What are my options to rescue my phone without needing to flash and install everything again? (Just asking in case I overlooked any options here, that would be the easiest to just fix the "SystemUI keeps stopping")
2) The Signal Messenger backup thing is strange: I have it in signal enabled, afaik it should run daily, but the folder "sdcard/Signal" is empty (at least according to adb).
3) With `am start -n com.termux/.HomeActivity` I can start things, I also see that they are started, but then I can't do `input text` to actually do something. What are my options from adb? Can I send inputs directly to an app starting?
4) Incoming phone calls work, so I am wondering: Could I create an app that runs in front of the lock screen, ideally sth like Termux, then I could do everything?
5) Maybe any chance to install and run an ssh client? Ideally in termux, because it already has su rights.
Thanks a lot for your help!
