Solved- Issues with Facebook messenger on Kit Kat? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question: I'm rooted in Kit Kat, first OTA forced update. Facebook messenger isn't showing notifications. I saw one other person in the store complaining about it being a Kit Kat issue, but it occurred recently. Anyone else having similar issues? Done the whole nine yards- uninstalled after clearing cache and data, etc. Even did a full sweep and fixed permissions. Thoughts?

Edit- Had to do with a Xposed module

KitKat Incompatible Apps?

I seem to be getting a few force closes on some apps Facebook, XDA app. Viper 4Android also doesn't seem to work? Anyone else have these issues?

Clearly, you need to wait for apps to be updated to KitKat before you can use certain apps. That's been the case for years now with new Android versions.

S health

Has anyone else's S health stopped working? I'm not sure when it happened and I tried to clear data to see if it would help but it didn't...
I uninstalled the app and reloaded it from the Sammy store but still no go

Yes, happened to me. I noticed it after I let the program update. I actually just wiped the system with Kies to get it back. I'm currently restoring everything (except s health) with titanium backup after rooting again.
Let me know if it stops working. I uninstalled the update but that didn't work, maybe I'll uninstall it reboot and reload it from the sammy store this time.

So I uninstalled s health then went into app settings and uninstalled the update for health services, after I did that I kept getting a force close for another app repeatedly so I had to do the quick tap to get a restart. After getting back in everything was fine reinstalled s health from the sammy store and it had me update health services and everything worked after that.

There were two apps. the S health and the healthservice. I seem to remember them both being updated at the same time. I couldn't figure out how to downgrade the second. That's why I tried the nuclear approach. This was after booting in safe mode and confirming that it wasn't an app conflict. I figured I'd delete the backups. If it starts acting funny tomorrow morning after I restore everything else, then I'll know there is something else going on. In the meantime, I'm going to avoid the update.

Yep. Mine also updated both s health and healthservice app

if you froze or disabled "samsung apps" then S Health isn't going to be able to DL the update it wants, unfreeze samsung apps, use it to update S health then it should work....
I think either root or xposed breaks it. Can anyone confirm that they have a working S-Health with root and/or xposed?

I have both and s health is working now, check post 4

I just installed xposed and mine died before that being rooted it was working just fine.
So you're saying that xposed has broken it for you?
Sprint - Galaxy S5, Moto X, Nexus 7 - All stock rooted
i can confirm that installing xposed is causing "health services" to crash. Root alone didn't do it for 2 days. Just installed xposed this morning and health services force closes every minute or so. The pedometer widget is stuck on the lock screen with 0 add trps now as well. But can't close it as S Health csnt open without health services functioning.

Interesting. I have xposed running and s health is running fine. I haven't allowed the upgrade to s health assuming that was the problem. Does uninstalling xposed fix it?

i can verify xposed breaks it uninstall exposed n it works fine
I am rooted and have xposed installed, I always turn auto updates off for every app I have just for that reason. Updates dont always fix issues. Original s health from day one factory loaded and has been perfect since I got the phone. I guess thats why they say every phone is different and why we create backups. -__- Do you have version 3.0.0065?

Stuck in 4.2.2

Hey guys,
I recently purchased my Droid ultra and I'm loving it. The only thing is that every time I hit software update it tells me that there's no software update available.
As you can see I'm probably on the version of the software that came out of the box.
I know that on Nexus phones you could force the update by going to setting and clearing cache of Google services framework. Is there a similar way to force an update on this device?
Stock / not rooted
Thanks for your help guys.
Ps. I'm on straight talk... Dunno if this makes a difference or not.

Lucky you

Haha. Yeah that's a plus I guess. But i'll still need to update.

Constant SMS Failed to send after 4.4.3 Update?

Hey guys,
For about two days now, ever since I updated my Nexus 5 (running on T-Mobile) to 4.4.3 using the OTA, Google Hangouts is failing to send texts in phases. For one hour or so it'll fail every other text until I resend it, then after that it works for a few hours again perfectly fine, then back to failing some.
I'm going to try using Evolve SMS for a bit to see if it happens there, but something tells me this isn't Hangouts' fault.
I am rooted and have a custom recovery, but it's been that way for months (Before 4.4.3 update) and I doubt would affect it.
Thanks,
David
Try cheating the cache in hangouts. If that doesn't work uninstall it, reboot, and then reinstall it from play store

I'll do that, I just cleared my cache/dalvik too. Unfortunately Hangouts is hardwired into stock so I can only uninstall updates, but if it acts up again I'll try that.

I do, although I'll use that as a last resort at the moment haha. Still think it's a more widespread-than hangouts problem.
Update: Switched to Evolve SMS, still happening x.x
I was also having this issue using Chompsms. Reverted back to 4.4.2 and the issue is gone. Also on T-Mobile

I think it was with T-Mo in my area. My friend was on Nexus 5 stock 4.4.2 and having the problem, it's since gone.
Tldr: Issue resolved itself, was likely T-Mobile's side

Anyone else having issues with MLB At bat app for live tv?

Every time I try to load video of a live game, it says 'at bat has stopped responding' but it doesnt actually close me out of the app and the rest of the app continues to work fine. Live radio works fine, but I cant seem to get TV working.
I don't know what I might have done to cause this. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app to no avail. Not sure what else to try or what else may be conflicting with the app.
Are you running ART? I had trouble with this app on ART and had to switch back to Dalvik.

OHHHH hmm that may be it. I remember it working the day I got the phone and i switched to ART like on day 2, thats probably it. Damnit.. I was liking ART. I guess i'll have to try dalvik and see if i am okay with the lag.
Confirmed.. switched back to Dalvik and it works now.
I guess i might as well install xposed now lol
I was digging ART also, but I can't live without watching video on my MLB app. I was also getting random lockup using ART on my Verizon LG G3.

my battery life has been phenomenal on art, I haven't noticed that many performances differences otherwise. I'll have to go on dalvik for a couple of days to compare now.
