Constant SMS Failed to send after 4.4.3 Update? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
For about two days now, ever since I updated my Nexus 5 (running on T-Mobile) to 4.4.3 using the OTA, Google Hangouts is failing to send texts in phases. For one hour or so it'll fail every other text until I resend it, then after that it works for a few hours again perfectly fine, then back to failing some.
I'm going to try using Evolve SMS for a bit to see if it happens there, but something tells me this isn't Hangouts' fault.
I am rooted and have a custom recovery, but it's been that way for months (Before 4.4.3 update) and I doubt would affect it.
Thanks,
David

Try cheating the cache in hangouts. If that doesn't work uninstall it, reboot, and then reinstall it from play store

I'll do that, I just cleared my cache/dalvik too. Unfortunately Hangouts is hardwired into stock so I can only uninstall updates, but if it acts up again I'll try that.

I do, although I'll use that as a last resort at the moment haha. Still think it's a more widespread-than hangouts problem.

Update: Switched to Evolve SMS, still happening x.x

I was also having this issue using Chompsms. Reverted back to 4.4.2 and the issue is gone. Also on T-Mobile

I think it was with T-Mo in my area. My friend was on Nexus 5 stock 4.4.2 and having the problem, it's since gone.
Tldr: Issue resolved itself, was likely T-Mobile's side

Haxsync and KitKat

Hey guys, has anybody tried had sync? I always used it on my nexus devices, however, the last update for it is on October 6th, way before KitKat release date. I've read through some of the reviews and some have mentioned of it preventing phone from going to deep sleep and causing wake locks. That was on a galaxy phones though, no mention of issues on nexus 5. I have just got the nexus, don't really want to install something that's not fully compatible yet.

Working fine for me.. Just got my phone a couple hours ago, so can't really say much on the wake lock part. But, the contacts sync up and its fine so far..

Why not try it for your self? If it causes problems just uninstall it. Plan and simple. Not like it can brick your phone because an app isn't 100% compatible.
Working fine for me too.

I have sync.me on one of my old androids letting it update my contacts...good idea if you have a old phone laying around...not sure but you could use haxsync like that too.

I did when I got my nexus. My battery died faster than expected. I looked through logs, and noticed that yahoo weather was draining a lot of battery on the background, ended up uninstalling that and haxsync because I figured that it could have been both as android usage was also high. Today, everything was fine. I will try to reinstall it.
I do seem to get some contact pics synced, I'm guessing by default Facebook app still doesn't sync contacts on stock, right? Pictures might be coming from Google +?

Been using haxsync for a week now on my N5 & no battery drain/wakelocks according to bbs from haxsync so its ok to use.

I have not as the Dev put in the description that it's only needed for 4.1. Calendar and contacts are syncing just fine without it.

Uhm I installed it, but the pictures seems to be all in low resolution.. It's because this Nexus is bigger then the previous?

On 4.4.2 haxsync doesnt work anymore at least for me
are there any alternatives?
I don't find HaxSync on Play Store, on both Play Store app (on Nexus 5) and Play Store web
There's a playstore fix in xposed installer. This may fix your problem

I was unable to find HaxSync on play store, so I searched through Google and clicked the link, works flawlessly.

MersauX,
Can you please tell me where you found it? What link? When I search for the Haxsync APK, I find a lot of sites, but I am always a bit leery at downloading them from these types of places since I worry about the files authenticity. Thanks in advance.

Thanks but it's not currently available on the play store. That's the reason I asked in the first place.
I've never had any wakelocks using haxsync, and it has never shown up in my battery stats ever.

Odd, that link works for me. Must be because I've had it installed for years...

Unknown error code during application install: -24

Hello everyone,
I always follow this rule when I buy a new device. I use the stock rom/kernel without root for the first 2-3 weeks just so that there's no hardware error popping up and also because I want to have that clean stock experience with each device I own. After I feel the time is right, I root it and then keep on flashing every now and then. So ATM, I'm fully stock!
I've been experiencing this particular problem/error while installing apps from the Play Store : Unknown error code during application install: -24
I have faced this error 3 times till now and sadly all of them have popped up while installing "PAID" apps.
Till now it has occurred with
1. Nova Launcher Prime
2. WiFi File Transfer Pro
3. Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour
SS: http://www.vinu.info/f/u/24Screenshot_2014-03-06-20-30-47.png
I couldn't even get a refund on the first two apps as the 15 minutes window had passed while I was searching for a fix. I like to support the devs but this is really irritating!
I've literally searched for hours finding a solution for this and the only thing which I get is : FACTORY RESET.
If you're rooted, then you can delete the package from /data/app/ or /data/data/ and solve it within few seconds. However, if you're unrooted, you're only left with Factory Reset.
I am currently on ART and I have tried shifting to dalvic but that doesn't solve the problem. I was using a HTC One X (4.2.2) previously and I have never faced this problem even once. So I'm beginning to think it's a KitKat related issue?
I have already performed a factory reset twice and I really don't find it a viable option now. I guess it's time to root now and begin flashing!? :cyclops:
If you guys have any info/solution regarding this problem, please share!
Thank you for your time!
It happens randomly. Have you tried deleting your Google account and adding it back? Fixes it for me every time this happens (and it's not a KitKat related issue)

I face the same problem with modern combat 4. I tried to delete my Google account and added it back, but I still get the "unknown error during application install -24"..

Thanks for the suggestion. However, it didn't solve the issue.
I know it happens randomly and I may have been extremely unlucky to face this issue 3 times in a month!
PS: There are tons of people who don't root their phones, so each time something like this happens we have to wipe it completely?
It seems to me doing a wipe is your only option :/

I'll wait for a few days and see whether I can find any alternative, if not, flash a custom rom... Fedup with stock(unrooted) because of this stupid issue.

[Q] Stock camera not focusing in 4.4.4

recently I notice that my camera wouldn't focus and I think it started happening after the latest update.
everything was working great before and never had an issue. any ideas?
The latest camera update our android update? Try clearing data and cache for the camera app. If that doesn't work try another camera app.
Edit: Typo
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
I meant I am using all the latest software.... All updates were installed.
I tried clearing the cache... Downgrading the camera app, installed various camera apps and same result.
I also did a factory reset.

...and the glass covering the lens is not smudged?
Glass is clean, very clean actually, never used the device without a case and the glass usually wouldn't touched any surfaces directly.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
You could try downgrading to another version of android by flashing the stock image. If that doesn't work I think there may be a hardware issue.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
I tried going back to 4.4.2 when I know it worked but it didn't work with the downgrade.
I called Google and they will send another device... Factory refurbished... I'm skeptical about that thou, should I be?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Download another camera app and see if you have the same issue. If you don't, then it's just the software and not a problem with the camera itself.
Hel already mentioned that he tried many camera apps all with the same result.
@op No, I think the new device will be just fine. Don't worry about it.

Google Search has Stopped.

Hello all. Man, it's been a while. Well, on to business.
I just downloaded the most recent update about... A month ago or so I think?
The past 2 weeks, however, my Google search has stopped working. If I access the app or click the search bar on my home screen, it pops up for a second, then crashes and gives me the option to report. Also crashes when I try to use voice in Chrome.
So far I have:
1. Cleared cache, data, etc.
2. Uninstalled updates. It didn't work before re-updating it, and I have now done this 4 times.
3. Reinstalled updates to no success.
4. Attempted to backup my phone with the stock backup, only to have it fail, thus blocking a factory reset (don't want to lose my data). This is ALSO an issue I am having, so advice here would also be appreciated, though not necessary. I think my broken GoogleSearch messed it up anyway.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Is anyone else having this issue? Or has my famously bad luck rendered me the only one again?
I am running a bone stock D800, unrooted. Please no hate for my lack of root; every time I root I seem to break something (bad luck, not inexperience!), and I tried to keep from it this time.
If you have just a patch or workaround that's perfect. My goal is to keep my G2 functioning until April 2015, then I can get a new phone. Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Bump. It's getting worse. It used to only do it when I opened the app. Now it does it at random about every twenty minutes.

Voice recognition is completely gone everywhere now.

Bump. Finally factory reset since apparently nobody across several different forums knows what's causing this. Guess what? Still broken!
Could really use any help at all. This is driving me insane.
Never mind! Apparently the update decided to go ahead and brick my phone today. Won't even boot to the LG logo. Had to buy a G3. Fantastic.
Would appreciate it if you closed this thread, mods.

[Q] Camera bug since Lollipop 5.1

Since I installed the 5.1 update on my Nexus 5 (no root) I've been having this bug on my camera app.
Every time I open the camera (whether it is the standard app, or for example inside the WhatsApp app) the brightness is just extremely low. The only way to fix this is taking a picture, close the app and open again. Brightness is back to normal and everything is fine.
A while later its just the same story all over again.
Any solutions or suggestions?
Am I the only one with this problem BTW?
How did you update to 5.1? Try to flash the factory images if you didn't do it before.
If it's a Google bug then it will might be fixed with 5.1.1 which is around the corner
Same issue for me on Nexus 4. Flashed factory images.
