Hey people,
Really suffering here at work where the wifi causes a wakelock that destroys my battery. Any chance the community has found a fix to this issue? It doesn't happen at home on either of my two routers. No matter where I am at work, however, my battery goes down like mad when connected to Wifi.

There are multiple threads with the same issue if you do a search. Basically it's not something a kernel or a custom ROM at this point and most likely relates to wifi somehow.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519294
That particular wake lock is triggered any time the phone is awoken from deep sleep to send or receive data on wifi. If you are having issues with just one particular wifi network, that is likely DHCP/dynamic IP related. There are reports of issues with certain wifi routers that are using dynamic IP addresses causing DHCP queries to constantly wake the device.

Don't matter what rom I'm running and what kernel I am using the wifi connection suddenly turns off and then on automatically. I've checked the inactivity politician to never, and that's not the problem.
Does someone have the same problem?

Nope. My WiFi works great. I have the sleep policy set to screen off, turns back on immediately when I wake it up and I never drop it. The only odd thing I have is that sometimes while on WiFi it will pick up a mobile data connection as well. Doesn't interrupt anything its just weird.
Yes, I am. And I think quite a lot of users as well.
The wifi hardware in this Nexus S is ****.
Believe me, try to live with it, it is a hardware issue. Use 3G or invest better / more wifi access point.
I have tried a lot of things but im still with this boring thing .... Any solution???

Hey, I'm using an NS4G and I've noticed three times that my wifi turns on and starts scanning for networks without me ever explicitly telling it to. Any ideas?

Do you have it set to never sleep or the default android. Default sleep when screen is off.

Mine does this when im a bit too far away from the router.... weak wifi unfortunately
I'm using CM7 nightly 8 (Flashing to 12 right now) and my wifi sleep policy is set to never.
I noticed this problem happening while I was at my friend's high school graduation. I had the wifi off since I wasn't at home, and multiple times throughout the ceremony I saw it back on without me ever telling it to.
i'm having weird issues with wifi on my infuse...
with all the other roms i've tried so far the wifi signal has stayed pretty solid, but with the compiled CM7 rom wifi stops working if the phone sits idle for any random amount of time. sometimes it works after the phone sits for 30 minutes +, sometimes it dies if i just lock and unlock the screen..
any tips? what information can i provide to help?
bumping up
having the same issues, anyone got some info?
Go to wireless settings, then wifi settings, hit menu, advanced, then change sleep policy to never. For some reason cm7 doesn't default to this. Should help

My problems are somewhat similar on the newest CM7. Mine is stuck on "obtaining IP address, then my WIFI says "disconnected" then it reconnects and still says "obtaining IP address". Please help anyone...!
Just to add too, I have reflashed the rom 2 times same problem each time.

This does seem to help a lot! Thanks!
I think others might be having a different issue.
For me, this fixes everything!

Hey guys,
I need some help with this issue. I am pretty sure it is my home wifi because I don't seems to be having the problem on the works wifi.
so the problem is my device will have slow to no internet connectivity even when i am standing right next to the AP. this is making it to where i don't get any emails and the email app will not let my phone sleep causing major battery drain with the wake lock being "latency" something something. when I get home i will see if i can get a screen shot of it for you.
Any help on this would be nice.
Firstly, give your router a reboot. The whole remove power for 30+ seconds

This^^^.
Then, if you are still experiencing problems, make sure your router's firmware is up to date.

Is your router's firmware up to date? Not to be pushy, but it was the only thing that worked for me.

When you go to the router's url, in settings, look for "updates".
Gotcha, when i get home later i will give it a go and update once it is done. thanks.

Try selecting 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz in your phone's advanced WiFi options, instead of Auto.

I've had this problem too. Turns out it's something to do with the carrier/SIM conflicting with the wifi connection. It was suggested that I turn off mobile data while using wifi. Since doing this my speed has never dropped. I've also set up a Tasker profile to turn mobile data off and on automatically.

I shall give it a good, that that is really weird...
Yeah, definitely a strange bug, apparently introduced with KitKat. I tried my O2UK sim in a Moto G and had the same wifi speed drop. My backup Vodafone sim causes no speed drop. Weird indeed.

Does anyone else experience WiFi drops from this phone or is there probably just something wrong with my router.
Settings -> Wifi -> Advanced -> Keep wifi on during sleep... is that set to always?
What ROM, Kernel are you using?

Yes always on is set, I have the issues on cm m9 and paranoid android.
Could be router problems. Stock kernel?
Yeah I always use stock kernel
The only thing I can think of is it being a router problem. Do you have another device around? Use that device and connect to your wifi and see if you can reproduce your WiFi disconnects, if it disconnects then its your router.
If you cannot, go to a friend or familys house or public wifi and see if you can reproduce your WiFi disconnect problem.

One more to back your clame up it drops my WiFi and my nexus 5 is still connected. CM need to get to work. This phone has been out for a while and things like this should have been fixed by now.
Still love it but glad I still have my nexus. Not being a fan boy just being truthful.
Yeah i have the same issue, my phones wifi goes orange every time it goes into deep sleep. It's really annoying
Do you guys happen to be using Snapdragon Battery Guru? Or any battery saving applications?
It's the phone. Not the router.
Does it happen on your other devices? No? Then it's the phone.
Someone else was having the same problem and had BatteryGuru installed which was turning WiFi off when the phone screen is off to "conserve battery."
Check your user apps guys.

Well I was asking that because they can be using those apps which are conflicting with wifi being disconnected when screen is on. I personally am not a fan of battery conservation apps, they don't do much in my opinion. Handling wakelocks and allowing ur phone to deep sleep is more important.

I am a very straight forward guy so please don't take me the wrong way.
It doesn't even happen to me when its in deep sleep...its when I'm actively using the phone. My WiFi will drop and my network will disappear from the wifi list in settings, then 10-15 seconds later it reconnects.

That exactly what mine does. Sometimes I have to reboot to get it to recognize my network. It's annoying to say the least. I may try another ROM to see if it's any better

Using another rom will not resolve the problem, the wifi driver is within the kernel not rom. Try using other kernels instead.
