OneNote replacement? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The one and only computing limitation at the moment for me is the lack of inking in the Android version of OneNote, hence I've been on the lookout for a Windows tablet with Wacom digitizer. Well, that is after all a rather expensive solution to a limited problem. Microsoft's OneNote app on Android is stunted by not supporting inking, so the question is, does there exist an Android alternative to OneNote. Preferably something that will take OneNote notebooks and let you handle them the same way on a Note.

I am not sue, but perhaps Evernote will do this?
I use OneNote on my laptop a lot, but never on my tablet, mainly due to lack of inking compatibility.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA Premium HD app

That it's the thing, I want inking to work in my existing OneNote notebooks. About 10.000 pages of them.

[Q] Sell my ipad2?

Hi guys
I'm a massive fan of android, i have a 64GB iPad 2 but I'm bored with no jailbreak... would it be worth selling iPad for an eeepad?

I don't want to be presumptuous, but I think this is the wrong place for an objective answer. So if I have to play the Oracle (Matrix ), I would say "but you already know the answer to your question".

True, I know some people have used an iPad too though so they might be able to compare
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
On a serious note, i have used both but ultimatley they both have their strengths and weaknesses. For me one of the biggest things android has is Flash, having an iPhone searching the web can be a very frustrating experience - same applies to the iPad.
They are both brilliant gadgets i think it just depends what you want to use it for.

P.s. the iPhone is going at the ealiest oppertunity!
It would be for browsing, Twitter, Facebook. Don't game that much

So my opinion (and just my opinion) the Transformer would suit you well. With the widgets to enhance twitter and facebook and the browser having flash you would be sorted.
Although the system is not to the same refinement as the Ipad yet, ie you may get the odd fc but Android is only going to improve with time and will eventually overtake ios (in my opinion)
Thats my opinon anyways. (Did i already say that?)

Funny, I just shipped out my iPad 2 this morning and I'm a huge Apple guy.
Two biggest things for me were the higher resolution and the expandability... (microsd, dock, usb ports, sd card slot....)
I'll re-evaluate iPad when the higher resolution screen comes out but I doubt they will ever include a memory card slot. (Hope I'm wrong.)
However, my Transformer isn't completely safe either! He's lucky the Samsung doesn't have a memory card slot or usb.
I love Apple too but I've been using my sgs2 and android and I love all the customisation.
Do you miss the iPad?

Hmmmm...think about it, people. Can we really have TOO many toys? As the proud ower of two NCs, a GTab and a TF it's like Christmas everyday! lol
And educational. (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!)
@Guitarfreak26
Well, I just shipped it this morning but I haven't really used it much since I got the Transformer.
I wish there was a way to sync my Yahoo calendar to the nice Honeycomb calendaring app, but other than that, not really.
I mean, there are plenty of cool things on the iPad but they were things I thought I'd use but never did.
(iTunes? Nope, use my iPhone or Nano. Airplay, never use it. Games? Keep buying them on sale but hardly ever play them. I'd trade all of that stuff for a microsd slot and hdmi out without adapters... And I did! )
Where did you sell? Ebay?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
No, an excellent board I frequent named Ars Technica.
eBay has gone to hell.... Buyer traffic seems way down and the fees are out of hand.
(Especially nice when eBay takes its pound of flesh and then their company PayPal takes ANOTHER big chunk.)
I agree about ebay....
Do you find yourself using the dock much?
I think i found out about the ipads usefulness when i went a convention last weekend, i tried to find a website where i could watch a few episodes of Monk and nothing would work because of no flash!!
No, I don't use the dock too much... Mostly as a charging station. But then again I haven't been on any trips since I got it.
However, when I do use it I like it quite a bit. Nice having the extra battery, extra SD card storage, a decent keyboard and a very nice trackpad.
Yeah, I didn't think Flash would add that much but then I started using sites that require it and would find it hard to go back. And I especially don't want to go back to the lower resolution.
The form factor... I don't know. I like both. The iPad's shape is good for books and magazines, and the Transformer's is good for internet and movies. (And pretty much everything else.)
Thatll be amazing when 3.1 is out and supports the camera plug in etc...

I just realized that! Almost 10% from eBay and another 5% from PayPal. That makes 15% off the total sales price, including shipping! I was shocked and appalled when I saw that. Resulted in a BIG loss when I sold my XOOM

I personally think the SIII + Android wallops any phone running windows. If you're pissed at yourself and want to teach yourself a lesson, then yeah make the trade.
If you like the windows phone launcher just get launcher 8. It's free and then you have the ability to get the best of both world. Android is great because you can transform it to look like anything. Also if you want the windows notifications there are apps for that to. That is why android is great you can mix and match to make it look like anything. You could even make it look like an iphone with espier launcher (personally wouldn't do that).

I just feel that with all the live tiles on wp8 that it would consume battery like no other. And personally I think they look more boring than iOS.
*lol at the fact that I just installed launcher 8 and slightly like the new look!

If you don't use many apps, don't like to install ROMs, and don't like having hundreds of customization options then do the trade.

IF your plan is to sell the phones, but get them to throw in 50-75 when you show how far superior the s3 is. Just because the 8x is newer it's average selling price on eBay is higher

No, I wouldnt. I would get bored of the UI really quick and not being able to customize it much
I'd give it a shot. If nothing else you'll reinforce your decision one way or another.
I got the HTC Trophy Windows Phone and was quite happy with it. At the time it was very refreshing to have a phone that was always responsive and never needed a reboot....it just worked. I was also glad to have free time in the evenings again by not tweaking/reflashing my phone all the time. There were very few apps that I couldn't find alternatives for with Windowws phone....don't let anyone talk about quantity of appa like 125k apps aren't enough...another refreshing experience was the uniformed-ness of the apps...and the general clean looks.
There are a lot of things Microsoft did right, but in the end there were too many limitations compared to what android offered (actual file management for non music, video, or picture files).
I'd keep an eye on Windows Phone as really some of those limitations were due to MS playing catch up and not having enough time to implement them. They will fill out those features soon enough.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No for the sole reason of a pathetic number of apps (good apps...not random apps. ex: still no pandora app). Is verizon giving you this as a replacement or are you selling it? If its a replacement, no way...new gs3 for a refurb windows phone..thats a no for me.
Stop with the lack of apps bit. Sure there may not be an official Pandora app, but there were at least 2 apps that used the Pandora api and worked just as good as Pandora....let alone the html5 Pandora webpage worked fine...including you still being able to use the universal music controls on the lock screen. The unofficial app was actually better because it never played an ad....though it might have changed in the last couple of months.
Now to back track a bit as I got carried away with supporting Windows Phone to realize what you were really asking.....with the support Samsung has behind the S3 and the hardware features I don't think you'd really be gaining anything by switching....in fact I will admit that you'll probably lose features by switching. If you had an older Android phone then sure, but an S3 is too capable and stable to be replaced by anything just yet...except maybe a Note 2....

OK, we all heard of the cons from Wins8, for the pros, got to admit it's FAST and SMOOTH than any Android phone and Iphone5. I compared the Nokia wins8 it to my Note2 and S3.

Other tablets with stylus

Soon i am planning to change tablet at the moment i hsve ipad 3 and the thing that i miss most is notes spen...
My question is is there some other tablets that have the same or better horsepower than note 10.1 and mandatory is to have precise stylus something at least comparable to spen.
Or is best choice for that still note 10.1.
Tablet screen shoud be in 10" range not interesred i 8"

Note 10.1 still the only real contender...
I would give the series 7 Slate PC a real good look, it's a windows tablet and it costs a bit more but on the other hand you can run full MS office on it and that's a really good thing! The Microsoft Surface Pro have also a digitizer, then there's some Lenovo as well. No other with android as far as I know though.
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda app-developers app
For surface pro i read about digitizer that it is not same quality as s pen.
I will use it for taking notes while studying. So i need precision with lots of formulas and graphs...

ASUS announcement coming?

I don't know how soon you're looking to purchase, but this ASUS announcement looks interesting to me.
If it's an Android Transformer with both a digitizer pen and a keyboard dock, I'm definitely down.

I've read that as well, the battery life is not at all what it is on the note either. The slate however is a Samsung product and as far as I can tell it has the same technology as the note. I use my note for the same purpose as you will by the way, and even though LectureNotes is awesome I think MS OneNote is quite good as well. The main advantage with the Slate is that it is both a tablet and a laptop one can use for Matlab (I know there's a mobile version for android but it's more for show really) and other PC applications. It's larger size is a disadvantage when it comes to using it as a tablet though.

Also one of the things that pulls me toward note 10.1 is multiview. Lets say put pdf book on left side of the screen and notes app on the right and it is very convenient to work. Plus what i have seen on note that palm rejection option. Atm i have note 2 also (as visible from my signature) and it is awesome. But note 2 has just too small screen for the that task. It is ok for scribbling something fast but more extensive notes need larger screen. Note 8 still it is larger but personally i think that 10.1 is best size for that.

I use that feature alot as well, especially when doing math and other tasks where you want to have a PDF with the exercise up when writing. For other tasks the 10.1" is a bit to small for me at least. But I mean come on, you use the notes multitasking capabilites as an argument for it towards a windows based tablet? And since the series 7 has the same pen technology as the note it has the same palm rejection capabilites.
But it sounds like you've already made up your mind and If so, good for you! I love my Note, I would really have checked the series 7 out before buying one today but maybe that's just me.

Since you get a laptop and a tablet in one I maybe would have gone for the slate, but that's because I could use an upgrade on my laptop and my back would appreciate not having to drag the two devices around in school. On the other hand one of the best thing with the note is that it's so easy to carry around and hold in the hands while reading..
Anyway, congratulations on your choice

Nexus 10 to Surface feedback?

The Surface has been out for a while now, and I am just curious if there are any Android (Nexus 10) Users who bought the Windows Surface are still happy with their purchase. Was it a good choice?
There was a member who did a nice review coming from a 10 to the surface, but that was like 6 months ago. Anyone want to share some feed back now that they have had it for a while?
Thanks

Well sort of I've had a nexus 7 and two HTC flyers one was rooted. Now my daughter has rt and I have the Pro my wife runs the Lenovo yoga and we are all very satisfied.
Best thing I can say is I used to have a home Pc, a flyer, and a Toshiba laptop. Now I've been able to get rid of all those with one device. No complaints.

Depends what you are using them for. I still use an Asus Transformer Infinity 10 incher and a MS Surface Pro. For mobility the Asus wins hands down but for office based tasks and better gaming the Pro wins.
I had an RT but sold it after 2 months.

I hated the resolution compared to the Asus (backwards step) and I hated the RT desktop implementation - basically next to useless.
The Pro is a proper netbook/tablet. The only downside over the RT is battery life. But I can live with that

Then the RT is not for you. Go for the pro if you require fully compatible java etc.
Want to use anything but Internet Explorer? - you can't. RT forces you to use IE. There is no chrome, no firefox, etc. On the pro you can choose to use any of the above....

A note taking stylus for Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

Hello,
I'm currently a college student and I require precise graphs and drawings in my notes. I don't know too much about styluses but I know that an "active stylus" is great for writing notes. I understand that they are a bit more expensive. Does anyone know of any good ones out there? Thanks!
