I personally think the SIII + Android wallops any phone running windows. If you're pissed at yourself and want to teach yourself a lesson, then yeah make the trade.

If you like the windows phone launcher just get launcher 8. It's free and then you have the ability to get the best of both world. Android is great because you can transform it to look like anything. Also if you want the windows notifications there are apps for that to. That is why android is great you can mix and match to make it look like anything. You could even make it look like an iphone with espier launcher (personally wouldn't do that).

I just feel that with all the live tiles on wp8 that it would consume battery like no other. And personally I think they look more boring than iOS.
*lol at the fact that I just installed launcher 8 and slightly like the new look!

If you don't use many apps, don't like to install ROMs, and don't like having hundreds of customization options then do the trade.
The Windows phone app ecosystem is really really lacking.....

No, I wouldnt. I would get bored of the UI really quick and not being able to customize it much

I'd give it a shot. If nothing else you'll reinforce your decision one way or another.
I got the HTC Trophy Windows Phone and was quite happy with it. At the time it was very refreshing to have a phone that was always responsive and never needed a reboot....it just worked. I was also glad to have free time in the evenings again by not tweaking/reflashing my phone all the time. There were very few apps that I couldn't find alternatives for with Windowws phone....don't let anyone talk about quantity of appa like 125k apps aren't enough...another refreshing experience was the uniformed-ness of the apps...and the general clean looks.
There are a lot of things Microsoft did right, but in the end there were too many limitations compared to what android offered (actual file management for non music, video, or picture files).
I'd keep an eye on Windows Phone as really some of those limitations were due to MS playing catch up and not having enough time to implement them. They will fill out those features soon enough.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

No for the sole reason of a pathetic number of apps (good apps...not random apps. ex: still no pandora app). Is verizon giving you this as a replacement or are you selling it? If its a replacement, no way...new gs3 for a refurb windows phone..thats a no for me.

Stop with the lack of apps bit. Sure there may not be an official Pandora app, but there were at least 2 apps that used the Pandora api and worked just as good as Pandora....let alone the html5 Pandora webpage worked fine...including you still being able to use the universal music controls on the lock screen. The unofficial app was actually better because it never played an ad....though it might have changed in the last couple of months.
Now to back track a bit as I got carried away with supporting Windows Phone to realize what you were really asking.....with the support Samsung has behind the S3 and the hardware features I don't think you'd really be gaining anything by switching....in fact I will admit that you'll probably lose features by switching. If you had an older Android phone then sure, but an S3 is too capable and stable to be replaced by anything just yet...except maybe a Note 2....

OK, we all heard of the cons from Wins8, for the pros, got to admit it's FAST and SMOOTH than any Android phone and Iphone5. I compared the Nokia wins8 it to my Note2 and S3.

That's my main beef with the iPhone...who wants their phone to look the exact same 5 years from now?? I just find it boring as hell. And WAY too thick.
You know what's funny about Apple though, they fight tooth and nail to get Android off the shelves and say their software is the key point of their pitch but they neglect to mention all of Googles' features they use on a regular basis for one when you search for anything on an apple device it uses Google, can't blame them there right.
Now their saying their new 3d maps are going to beat Googles Maps but G Maps has been in beta for a few years now, they know what works and what doesn't but if Apple wants to give it a go then it should be interesting.
I'll stick with this device, there will always be something wrong somewhere with anything some one has, nothing is perfect otherwise there wouldn't be competitors.

That's the way it's headed anyway...Google is about to blow the provider model out of the water with their next gen Nexus devices (which should even put your mighty gen1 Nexus to shame), working directly with more manufacturers and selling directly to consumers. And I can't wait...I think they'll be doing all us Android users a big favor, longterm.
Apple really good in steal ideal and make it better than the original one. if you look at notification bar on iphone, it's really nice and i think it does better job than our android notification. I also like their notification badge/alert/ pop up for message/mail/FB... Still i can get popup app from play store but i want some thing that come from the operating system itself... Q Thinking about getting this phone is it worth it?

Before I put my foot forth and my wallet would like to know how you guys enjoy this phone. I was reading around about this SOD is it really that bothersome and common??
Also I had previous experiences with Samsung phone do you have to backup EFS folder with this one too?
Also how brickable is this phone, Samsung phones usually are easier to brick than HTC or LG.
Thank you for the input this community looks promising.

Pretty hard to brick, great phone for the price. Cwm makes easy nandroid and allows you to select how you want it saved. Sods are almost non-existent anymore. On ICS I don't think there is any sods. But I've been running test kernels for a week now for jellybean based ROMs and I think there's light at the end of the tunnel. All in all get it if you can't afford an s3. I personally like it better than the s3 because of the size.

Thanks, yeah I don't like phones higher than a 4.3 screen size. After that it feels like a mini tablet lol. So this is perfect with power, I don't think the s3 is all that necessary in Android yet. Plus I live in NY you always have to be looking if you know what I mean haha.

Building your own device

I know I saw an article about this and I don't know it anyone else has recently but it discussed the possibilities of manufacturers letting customers build their own device kind of how computer manufacturers do now.
I think this would be a really cool idea. I would love to just build a phone the way I want it but of course I would just throw together a phone with all the best specs
Realistically I doubt this would ever happen. It would take away control from carrier's and also manufacturers. They love having customers in the palm of their hands begging for a new device just 2-3 months after paying full retail for the one they currently own.
Just imagine how much that would change the cell phone industry?
Any input

I agree, I've built every computer I've used for the last 15 years. I just like the aesthetic quality of Alienware's products and thought it would be nifty if they would put those design aspects towards a phone chassis and UI.
If I had the money.. I'd do it. Question then would be how to like your phone without it infringing on another.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I think that would make developing ROMs and kernels for phones nearly impossible with there being such a huge variety in hardware. It would be really cool for sure, but I believe development would pretty much die.

Yea, then you could pay twice the price of the worth of the machine so you can get a little alien head graphic on it.:good:
I imagine there would be some some similarity due to the standards that would have to be put in place based on mobo size, case size, how everything fits together.... I'd still totally do it. Ive already heavily enjoyed building computers. Would give a nice sense of control over a device that can so easily erode privacy.

Definitely agree, I believe us GS3 users are not as impressed as others. The gs3 set the bar so high, it's kinda hard to notch that with the s4. The obvious hardware upgrade is nice which I still don't believe android is ready for quad core, octa-core processors and again we might the least powerful one. All the camera stuff if you don't voice chat, then all that doesn't matter. Also the air wave is kinda overrated bet most of us won't use it,cool idea though. Might be stuck to stock browser too and for some reason I have never used it on this phone or previous one.

Not going to make me switch. I am actually more impressed with the HTC One due to the build quality.
I love my s3, but IMO most these features they have are gimmicky and I would hardly use majority of them. I will say the camera looks good, but also have been impressed with the Ones camera.
Honestly Id rather have a Note 2 over this.
I am sure it will sell well though.

Once I get that sexy beast in the palm of my hand, there's gonna be no going back. (that's what she said) Does anyone else think it's slightly weak that Samsung releases the S4 so soon after the S3? Obviously they know people like me will buy it anyways, but still.... Who wants to take a guess at off contract pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S4? Over $700.00? My guess is the $650.00 range.

Other than that, yes.
I'll be getting the 64GB Version w/ a 64GB SD Card.
Don't get me wrong, its going to be a great phone for anyone who is not using the s3...
I just feel the "upgrades" are nothing plausible compare to the concept of s3...i mean i do not use all of the motions of s3...few additional ones are not going to change that because well...I wont' be using them. I do not voice chat so all the pretty camera things are cool.
Do I want it? yes...will I cough up another 200 bucks? Heck no! hell it wont be 200 considering t-mobile will probably sell it at what? 350? 400?
Its not plausable to the point I will drop my s3 and run after it...s3 set the bar too high for even samsung. This is like Iphone 4 and Iphone 4s...the s4 being the 4s...expect the gs3 blows the iphone out of the water so we wont even get on to s4.
Perhaps if the s5 comes around, we will talk
For me, I don't even like the Samsung software anyway, so all I pay attention to is the specs. Which means for me its just another notch up in the seemingly never-ending screen size growth of android phones; and some modest hardware upgrades.
I will say that the processor, new sensors (temperature, humidity & some others) and camera sounds pretty awesome, but nowhere near anything good enough for me to switch.
And Samsung with all its gimmicky software features is nothing in my eyes worth looking at trying out TouchJizz...
I won't be switching any time soon. Especially since I just upgraded on January 27. And it was a tough decision between this and the Note 2. Went with the S3 cause I got it for $99.99 at Target.

I believe the two antennas were for use on a carrier of your choice, since it comes without contract (even international).
Impractical probably for most. Ever since I got an android device (an archos) many years back I kinda wanted to be able to have a functional desktop experience. Having a note ii now I can basically already do that, whether im using a tablet multiwindow mod or the linuxonandroid app. That being said, there seems to be enough who want that kind of functionality. Would be even cooler to see somethin like that with a keyboard dock. Old idea that was tried on other phones.
I'd go as far as to say this is nothing like what's been done before.
I love it, would definitely buy it if it was coming out sooner, but I need a new phone now, not in 2014.

It's an Ubuntu touch phone that has the option to boot into android, with an android app compatibility layer for Ubuntu coming soon so you can still use your favorite apps when using u-touch. It also has a desktop mode where you can hook it up to a monitor and enjoy the full desktop version of Ubuntu.
The desktop mode is the reason for the specs, so it's literally a computer in your pocket. Thanks to so many ARM distributions out there, almost every single piece of software in the main Ubuntu repositories has been ported to ARM. Overall, for $800 you get an Android phone, and a desktop computer that fits in your pocket.

At the beginning I thought the campaign is gonna be a huge success.. but looking at it now.. seems like a far cry from being successful. But would be cool to see a device that can dual boot android & ubuntu though:fingers-crossed:..
What do I think? Neat idea, not so great on the execution. The Android world is full of great-but-not-quite-there ideas, and this is a good one -- unfortunately the timing just isn't right.
Dual-booting is just way beyond the scope of what the average person needs or wants right now, in my opinion. Could it be useful? Definitely, if implemented and executed correctly. Maybe this is one of those product categories people don't know they want until they have it?
