Q Thinking about getting this phone is it worth it? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Before I put my foot forth and my wallet would like to know how you guys enjoy this phone. I was reading around about this SOD is it really that bothersome and common??
Also I had previous experiences with Samsung phone do you have to backup EFS folder with this one too?
Also how brickable is this phone, Samsung phones usually are easier to brick than HTC or LG.
Thank you for the input this community looks promising.

Just buy an s3
If I helped out, hit the thanks button.

Pretty hard to brick, great phone for the price. Cwm makes easy nandroid and allows you to select how you want it saved. Sods are almost non-existent anymore. On ICS I don't think there is any sods. But I've been running test kernels for a week now for jellybean based ROMs and I think there's light at the end of the tunnel. All in all get it if you can't afford an s3. I personally like it better than the s3 because of the size.

Thanks, yeah I don't like phones higher than a 4.3 screen size. After that it feels like a mini tablet lol. So this is perfect with power, I don't think the s3 is all that necessary in Android yet. Plus I live in NY you always have to be looking if you know what I mean haha.
Any info on the EFS question if this phone has it? So I'll know to back it up

I just checked at best buy and they currently have the s3 at 150 with 2 year agreement my question is have you guys ever tried buying through best buy? Does your plan change in any way after you guys have done this? Tmobile always tries to make it impossible for their customers that's why I ask these things. I see it as a good investment worse comes to worse down the line I can just opt out and pay 200 penalty and I would still have my s3.

The s 3 is nice and all... but honestly the next phone I'm going to get in a couple years would be Ubuntu phone. Or a phone that can run it. (When released.)

Wow! Seriously?

To begin im not rooted or unlocked and ive read through the stickies and pages at "solutions" but i gotta say this is the worst phone ive ever owned. I figured it would be at least on par with my old g2 or mt4g but they would smoke this paperweight on edge network. Ive factory reset, used task killer, rebooted, called tech support, and im about ready to committ cellular homicide and mail it back piece by piece. I know im not the only one here....who else wants to vent some steam by sharing a nightmare?

Um it would quite help if you were to explain the reasons why you don't like this phone? And it would also really help if you didn't judge this phone stock because when its on the stock rom, its a piece of sh*t. I almost ran over this thing.

It shouldnt have to be rooted to compete with the g2 or mt4g...this beat the iphone 4 in a speed test. This thing lags on every scroll and takes a good 10-15 sec to open anything you touch. This isnt the first one ive experience this with either. Tmobile hyped this up like its hot sh** but its just cold diahrea

If you are clearly having issues why not custom rom it? I really don't understand why are you refusing to do something that has SOO MANY benefits and zero disadvantages. Sounds like lazyness to me. Shouldn't even bother with xda if you won't even root the phone

My wife and I both got the SGS4G at the same time she had all of the same complaints and eventually caved in and got a different phone. I on the other hand came to XDA and got help and now I am perfectly happy with the phone. the Vibrant had all of the same issues and its a software problem form Samsung. I loaded a custom ROM and all of the issues I had are gone. the great thing about software is that it can be fixed. Hardware issues are another story of which this phone has none that I have found. It is possible to revert back to stock firmware and software so that its like you never did anything if you want to sell the phone later. So this is not the place to vent about how crappy your stock phone is it is the place to come and load the software needed to fix it.
I'm.with you... I miss my mytouch 4g. Such an awesome phone. So many roms. So fast.

Honestly this is like if you bought a Ferrari and it had a rev limiter set at 2k with the top speed limited to 10mph but refused to turn off the limiters. The limiters are clearly there and you can clearly turn them off but you refuse to and instead of fixing the issue, you complain saying that you shouldnt have to turn them off and your ford fiesta is faster.

I know that rooting the phone isn't simply going to make all the problems go away. I absolutely hated this phone. Then when the new gb roms came out and all the tweaks started pumping out, I actually started to like this "p.o.s". Well why don't you wait till you have a PC and flash a custom rom first before you go flaming away at the device.

i think ur saying stock=crap rooted=good....so you basically agree with me so far...we both hate it stock and when my pc is back up n running ill root and update my review when i got custom rom. But as it stands im at 1ghz slow as hell. And its like i said before i dont want to buy a phone depending on root in order to make it function like its supposed to. If the cpu acted like it was at 1ghz i wouldnt be slammin this p o s.

just a note you dont ever need a pc anyomre to cough root a phone and flash a diffrent rom at all all yuo need is root explorer and to start off the recovery from krylons cwm final and then the update.zip and then the custom rom or a few of them push the recovery record reboot install zip via update gets u to cwm and then install new rom never once haveing to touch a pc
and if your on froyo u can use the market and get root theres apps that work for that

You came here with the sole purpose of complaining about the phone and not showing any interest about doing anything about it. If you want to complain about how bad this phone is try doing it on the T-Mobile forums so at least people who are thinking about buying the phone might be persuaded against it. I fell into it by commenting in the first place and I overlooked the first rule of the internet...Don't feed the trolls.

seems the market app may have been removed sent u a link with one that will root any 1.6-2.2 android rom without needing a pc just make sure to pick 2.2 version of froyo should work
Part Four, is that you?
Anyways, I've actually played with my cousin's MT4G (3 cousins have that phone). I honestly wouldn't say that the SGS4G falls too far behind it.
My cousins always complain about the battery life, since they can't even get half a day's worth with the screen at the lowest setting. On the other hand, the SGS4G put up excellent battery life since I got it. I ran it with its first brightness setting and easily got a full day's use out of it.
Speaking of the screen, you can't deny that this screen is quite beautiful.
As for the stock speed of the phone, I kinda have to agree that the MT4G is slightly better. It's not ridiculously faster, but it is faster by a hair. On a more interesting note, my friends had a rooted G2 which lagged more than my stock SGS4G.

Ill give you the screen, it is beautifull and that was a big selling point .my battery drains fast and charges slow ive downloaded maybe a couple apps, my display takes 99% of my battery and its at half power if you can believe that. But a g2 that lagged worse? He should get mexdroid or pyromod and start blazing up and down the superhighway. Those were my fav anyway

But don't stay on a froyo rom. I didn't really like those either. The big difference is when you start using a gingerbread rom which you will need a PC for to flash the bootloaders.

I have two mytouch 4gs. The screen on that phone blows away the sgs4g. The only reason I don't use it is because the wife and daughter have taken them over and stuck me with this thing.
Mytouch4g running Faux123's AOSP rom gets well over a day with heavy usage. About the same as CM.
I like the sgs4g.... its what I'm stuck with for now... but its no where near what the mt4g has to offer.
Better camera. Flash. Better screen. Better wifi.
And AOSP.
This phone with every tweak and rom doesn't come close to the mt4g.
Sorry. But its true.

Thinking of getting one

Hi guys i just have a chance to get an infuse but i am still thinking about so i decided to ask for opinions in the best place there is related to android phones: xda.
So what can you tell me about ics and jelly bean? is the battery good or it sucks taking into account it will not have a new battery but a used one for about a year.
Any help will be really appreciated!!!
thx guys
I don't have the infuse any more but ICS was great on it. Battery would last me all day with 3 hours of screen time with usually 30%+ to spare when I went to bed. The only thing I didn't like about my infuse was the crappy gps. Would drop signal constantly and it would often take a while. The strange thing is that gps apps would take forever to acquire a signal but if I closed the navigation app and loaded gps test I'd get a signal within 5 seconds.
Infuse is awesome GPS is not crappy anymore that has been resolved. So if u can get it do.
The devs here are light years ahead of samsung itself.

If the phone works properly and you are paying a fair price, don't see how you could go wrong - you can buy another battery at some point.
Many great roms by extraordinary developers plus support from lots and lots of helpful, knowledgeable users.

There will be those who diagree with me and I understand why- for me I would be tempted to do it as I have a 10 inch Acer A500 that spends almost all it's time in the case- I use my laptop or my phone and am very pleased with my Infuse. Several have left the Infuse for SGS3 - I have an SGS3 and still enjoy using the Infuse about 25% of the time. As long as you are ok not having the 10in. screen, I hope you make the decision that you are happiest with.

If your doing it on a new 2 year contract. I'd say no. You could get something better. Like a HTC one x for $50, Refurbished Galaxy Note $50, sgs3 for $139. I'm waiting for Gnote 2 but if they want over $200 for it I may go with Gnote. Samsung Unpack starts today!
ICS and Jellybean seem to be working awesome here by the way. At least for me.

Bah!! When did the developers make the gps worth a damn? I sold it when I bought my s3.
Zeus 6 ROM had great GPS. And its snappy. I've used it on my vacations. Infuse isn't a bad phone but I'm thinking of upgrading to the Note 1. I think its a good decision coming from an Infuse. Half a gig ram more 1.5 ghz dual core a larger screen , longer battery life. Samsung adding jelly and butter. Also it'll get some of the Note 2 features sounds like a good investment for $50 bucks.

I have an iPhone 4 now but I had the infuse and it was pretty awesome coming from a Mytouch 4g but I wouldn't get on contract with it...At all.
The battery life isn't that great, neither is gps and video chatting.
I've heard there's better android phones on the market if android is what you're looking for, searching around is best to make sure you buy a phone that's 100% you.
Check out the skyrocket too my ex boyfriend had one of those basically the same as the infuse but the think the battery life is better.

Hmmmm...

Ok...i got this charge cause 4g...but everything from software to hardware is bad...so I rooted it...hoping to go to ics...but instead the best I can get is a themed gingerbread...tweaked was the best thing I have found since having this charge...speed..battery life...so I donated...money well spent...I tried my fascinate...it has memory issues with jelly bean...then I was going to buy the developer sgiii...but it has no promises to let me go beyond jelly bean without issues...so should I just get the sgiii...root...buy some performances apps (if it needs it)...and just upgrade when a new android os comes out? ...hmmm

SG3 seems really awesome - but I'm sure as soon as you get it, something better will come along that the dev community will follow. Also seems that VZW is trying to clamp down on these devices to prevent root and what not (lone advantage the Charge has - unbrickable).
But I would certainly go with SG3, I hear stock it's still great.
If what you are looking for is an overwhelming amount of dev and software support, why not look into a nexus?
I'm currently transitioning to the Gnex and it is pretty nice to have a worry free JB OS to play with.
edit: also, try waiting it out for the new Nexus if hardware specs are high on your list. While you wait, make good use of Dwith's hard work that he's put into the up and coming Tweaked 3.0 with FP5

Anybody else ready to jump ship to the S4?

Watching the live feed right now, and i'm impressed. My S3 can gladly be sold and i'll buy the S4
I really feel like its only necessary to upgrade with every other model. The gs3 is still going strong IMO but to each his own.

I dont run touchwiz ROMS so upgrading seems pointless to me.

Only complaint i have cosmetically is those ugly black dots at the top of the phone minus the front camera. The two on the s3 don't bother me but more? S4 is not worth the upradeI would like to see if I can put the battery in the s3 though
Will get it asap I skipped the s3 glad I waited for a better resolution screen and new features.

Although it seems like a great device, I don't see that "wow" factor over the s3. I have like 5 upgrades that I could use and it still doesn't seem worth it. The software will eventually make its way over here. My hardware never seems underpowered and my battery life is great so my real world upgrade would be for a nicer screen.

Galaxy S IV

What are your thoughts? I didn't like the broadway presentation much lol but the phone itself looks impressive
Man I can't wait to get my hands on it. The S4 is going to be great there are some features that i love. Touch less air view is one of them

yeah that was pretty cool. the 13mp camera looks awesome
Its a nice upgrade. But for me its not enough to make me want to leave my s3 behind just yet.

My thoughts? Quite simple... they pulled an Apple with design.. but the specs and features are quite impressive and tempting.
I m sure it will be successful

Definitely agree, I believe us GS3 users are not as impressed as others. The gs3 set the bar so high, it's kinda hard to notch that with the s4. The obvious hardware upgrade is nice which I still don't believe android is ready for quad core, octa-core processors and again we might the least powerful one. All the camera stuff if you don't voice chat, then all that doesn't matter. Also the air wave is kinda overrated bet most of us won't use it,cool idea though. Might be stuck to stock browser too and for some reason I have never used it on this phone or previous one.

Not going to make me switch. I am actually more impressed with the HTC One due to the build quality.
I love my s3, but IMO most these features they have are gimmicky and I would hardly use majority of them. I will say the camera looks good, but also have been impressed with the Ones camera.
Honestly Id rather have a Note 2 over this.
I am sure it will sell well though.

I'm not as excited about the S4 as I was about the S3. But that doesn't mean I won't get it! This phone will be too dope to pass up... Once I get that sexy beast in the palm of my hand, there's gonna be no going back. (that's what she said) Does anyone else think it's slightly weak that Samsung releases the S4 so soon after the S3? Obviously they know people like me will buy it anyways, but still.... Who wants to take a guess at off contract pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S4? Over $700.00? My guess is the $650.00 range.

The SIV looks just like the S3, that's the only downfall!
Other than that, yes.
I'll be getting the 64GB Version w/ a 64GB SD Card.
Don't get me wrong, its going to be a great phone for anyone who is not using the s3...
I just feel the "upgrades" are nothing plausible compare to the concept of s3...i mean i do not use all of the motions of s3...few additional ones are not going to change that because well...I wont' be using them. I do not voice chat so all the pretty camera things are cool.
Do I want it? yes...will I cough up another 200 bucks? Heck no! hell it wont be 200 considering t-mobile will probably sell it at what? 350? 400?
Its not plausable to the point I will drop my s3 and run after it...s3 set the bar too high for even samsung. This is like Iphone 4 and Iphone 4s...the s4 being the 4s...expect the gs3 blows the iphone out of the water so we wont even get on to s4.
Perhaps if the s5 comes around, we will talk
For me, I don't even like the Samsung software anyway, so all I pay attention to is the specs. Which means for me its just another notch up in the seemingly never-ending screen size growth of android phones; and some modest hardware upgrades.
I will say that the processor, new sensors (temperature, humidity & some others) and camera sounds pretty awesome, but nowhere near anything good enough for me to switch.
And Samsung with all its gimmicky software features is nothing in my eyes worth looking at trying out TouchJizz...
I won't be switching any time soon. Especially since I just upgraded on January 27. And it was a tough decision between this and the Note 2. Went with the S3 cause I got it for $99.99 at Target.

I might be tempted to switch if they got rid of the soft buttons on the bottom of the phone. I'm constantly having to be wary of them and still managing to hit them and mess up what I was working on despite being careful...
Re: Galaxy S IV.
I plan on getting it. The specs look too sweet to past up...plus I'm due for a upgrade
US version no octo.
No thank you.
