Updated to 4.3 OTA, what happened to Google maps?? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My wife took the update this morning. She is stock unrooted. She has never been rooted and will not let me root the phone. Anyway, she used to have all of these widgets for Google maps. Each widget was a route, and it would show a green, yellow, or red traffic light, depending on traffic conditions. After she updated, all of those widgets disappeared. She is also complaining that some of her routes have changed. I put her routes in on google maps on my desktop. It did the routes incorrectly, but let me drag and drop to change them. I can't seem to do that on the phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might get her google maps back to where they were before and how I might get those widgets back?
Thanks

The only thing I can think of off hand is maybe it's the newer version of maps. When they updated it i know the navigation option disappeared

You can always try this. I haven't used it but it might help

What navigation option are you speaking of? I'm fully updated and still have navigation.

He's talking about the old version you have an app called "Navigation" with a red icon and then "Map" with map icon. Now Navigation is merged into the Map app as one. Happened on mine too. If you still have the Navigation in the app draw then you're ...."The One".

Oh, I always got to navigation from the map app and ignored the nav icon. So that would be why I didn't notice a change.

Thanks for the responses. I tried the various apk files in the post above. They all pretty much crashed on my phone. And I was unable to set up a traffic widget. After searching online and seeing numerous complaints about this, I found the route alert app. It has a decent widget with two buttons. One button gives the route time. The other brings up a route map with traffic. I will miss the green/yellow/red light widget, but this seems like a good substitute. Originally, the app did not get my route right. But it let me set a waypoint to get it to route correctly. Pretty cool.

Hey, if you're the one who set the route then why you need the app? just kidding..This app seems kind of cool, ability to set your own route and traffic alert.. wondering how accurate is the traffic alert. This would be an awesome feature.

[REQ] Notification Pull Down Power Buttons Ala Galaxy S

Hi I was watching a browser speed test video on androidcentral and they had a galaxy s phone and when they pulled down the notification bar at the top were a set of power buttons letting you turn on blue tooth, wifi or gps from any screen (really useful IMO)
So i ws wondering if this was part of touchwiz or an app or something we can port to the droid x. I find myself wantng to turn on wifi bt and gps alot in apps and ont want to go to the home screen to do it. i think this is so cool, anyone can elaborate?
thanks!
i believe it's part of touchwiz and it IS very handy. i don't use it all the time but it's a lot easier than finding the screen with the quick toggles.....if you're even using them.
Yea my friend has the one for T-mobile and i didnt' know it till i pulled down the notification bar, and I thought the same thing...sooo useful. I use my phone for navi a lot and it's annoying to go through screens to find the widget.
Quick Desk Beta
Check out the app Quick Desk Beta its essentially the same idea but instead of pulling your notification bar down you double press your home button and it pulls up a transparent screen that you can put any widgets on like wifi toggle or your music player. I used it all the time with my D1 when id be on a web page and forget to turn wifi on or want to listen to music while on the web but not want to go home and find the widgets then back to browser. I just got the DX and haven't tried it yet on it im still figuring out all these new moto blur things but i would think it should work with the DX. Hope that helps you out alittle

thanks i will check it out, but i do once in a while use the double tap of the home button for voice dial on my x, but that shouldnt b needed anymore once we get froyo and the new voice search app from google.
i still would like to have this in notification bar and wonder if it could be done as an app or as a theme mod or what. IF anyone has any ideas how this can be ported? maybe i can request a port in the DX android dev forum?
Yes a friend and my inlaws have the Galaxy and I would love to have something like this for the X.
Check out the app Quick Settings. Lets you put whatever settings in there you want. It's not as pretty, but really useful.

I would really love this too. I know the Galaxy S has it and certain ROMs have it but I'm not willing to root my DX quite yet.
i use quick settings as well, works really good.
Also you can download the app called Homesmack which can allow you to program the search hard button on the X to bring up the quick settings app. pretty convenient when i want to turn on wifi or bluetooth etc on the fly and saves space on home screens

[Q]GPS Speed

Does someone knows an application that shows the GPS speed in the most upper bar (I don't know how it's called, but I mean the bar where you see your Google navigation icon, your 3G/Wifi logo/ reception station/ battery status clock etc)
This would be verry handy to use in combination with google navigation.
Thanks in forward!
I use Speedview. This app doesn't directly show the speed in the status bar at the top but it does have an option which allows you to keep the applicaiton alive in the backgroud even when its not the active window. This app displays a speedview icon on the status bar as long as the applicaiton is running.
I am not sure how this works in other phones but in my HTC Desire I can drag down the taskbar and view the speed.

Most of them are pretty precise keeping a couple of things in mind.
You need to drive at a steady speed because sat position updates are not instant.
Putting on the cruise control in your car should show a steady and correct speed (*)
At very slow speed accuracy is an issue since gps is only accurate to a couple of meter (feet) so the faster you travel that tolerance will be eliminated.
* I don't like the GPS reception of my HD2. It picks up sats really fast but there is alot of noise on the signal it gets which gives me crazy jumps in speed
All modern GPS receives use doppler measurement for speed calculation. It's very accurate and isn't affected by position inaccuracy.

Found another annoying bug

Well 1st there is no Tune-in Radio......and now it looks like my YouTube subscriptions from foreign countries are not showing up, it shows that i have 1 subscription, when open folder i see 2, and in reality on youtube.com i have 4
also i know there is a fix, but the lack on "settings" button is ridiculous, it doesnt even properly work in Google apps.
you mean FM Radio? It's there.

On my T-Mobile One S, Tune-in Radio is listed in the apps on the phone but is not listed in the app drawer.
However, it does have a widget, which can be added to the home screen.
I have no clue why they did it this way.
FM Radio is different that what the OP was talking about.
Another bug i noticed, cant share pictures with Picasa, i get "failed to retrieve account info" msg
this is while Pisaca sync works fine by the way, but i dont wanna sync, i always used SHARE option
also Geniewidget hourly weather results in FC.
Unfortunatly I was stupid enough not to do Nandroid backup and I cant test if thats my ROM or even stock ROM has those issues.
But development is SO slow on this, we dont even have stock ROM yet which I can flash.
I only have Nandroid of ROM with removed bloat and I still get ALL issues above

same thing happen to me last night when I got my one s
I updated tune in through google play store and the app icon is nowhere to be seen and I cant open it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but did not work.
I use this app everyday on my drive to and from work. I listen to 1310 sports talk radio in Dallas since I was relocated to Houston and I cant go without listening to this station!
I broke down and bought the tune in pro app and it works great and I have an icon.. something is definitely wrong with the included tune in app from T-Mobile..

Its not on the app drawer because its a widget. If a widget doesn't have settings it doesn't have a icon in app drawer. Some app just don't show up on app drawer like homescreen launchers. It's installed, but you can't get to It.

Aviate - Tips and Tricks...

I wanted to start a thread to share info about the new launcher Aviate. There's no shortage of threads on requesting invites, so let's not do that here.
If you have Aviate and are actively using it, come here and share.
Thanks!
-bk
**Please do not use this thread for requesting invites!**
I've been using it for a day now and I find it curiously intriguing. It's a totally fresh user experience that feels a little like Google Now to me.
Frankly, I never thought ANY launcher could pull my attention away from my custom-crafted (ok, OCD-crafted) user experience I designed using Nova Launcher. I have the same design on all of my mobile devices and it feels like part of my DNA.
Can't say yet if Aviate will be a permanent replacement for my Nova-based home, but I seem to be staying with it.
Just saw the video presentation. I'm looking foward to have a little more feedback about this app.
I liked the fact that it categarises apps and I disliked (as in google now) the fact that you must have your gps on in order to take full advantage of it. Makes a lot of sense and it's very useful but I don't like the idea of sharing my whereabouts all the time...
Been playing with it since yesterday as well on my HTC One.
Like it so far, like the idea of the activities changing during the day. Not sure how it's controled though. Today ie, I set it to Work, and when checking my phone later on, it was set on Home... don't know why.
Of course the custom side of it is quite limited, I assumed it will be better with later versions.
Haven't figured out yet how to get shortcuts to contact phone numbers implemented in Aviate.
Any ideas?
Don't have "morning" and "night time" screens. Only "home" whole day. Any solution ?
To change between Fahrenheit and Celsius, long press on the weather notification and tap the toggle to change.

The only method I have found is to add a contact widget. Not perfect, but close.
I also haven't figured out how to save a bookmark icon to my favorites section on the home screen.
Another thing I would like to do is switch between the light and dark theme automatically based on time of day.

I was able to get an invite for aviate and loaded it up and started setting it up, when I started to wonder if this was the launcher for me. I loved the idea of chameleon launcher back when it came out, how it changed your home screen based on time of day. This seems similar in many ways. But then it dawned on me, I generally do a lot of the same things on my phone no matter where I am. That being the case, would someone like me benefit from this type of launcher?
I have uninstalled and moved on.
Not being able to do direct dial shortcuts the way I want is a deal-breaker for me.
Plus, I found that I really don't need access to different apps at different times of the day. I like always knowing where they are - all the time.
More power to those that find they like Aviate. For me, it was a swing-and-a-miss.
Hi. Just found this thread. I'm loving Aviate so far and, I'm sure the customisation will improve in future releases.
I would like more customisation of the 'spaces' (manual addition/removal etc) and better theming support. Overall, I like it a lot and in sticking with it, at least, for now!

D.M.A. Navi Watch - Clock face integrated with Google Navigation

Hi
My application just passed certification process and wanted to share it with you.
This application is available to download for free on Samsung Gear Apps. Just search for "navi watch".
Imagine you are exploring new city or just going somewhere. To be most efficient you use Google Navigation to get to your desired place, but when you are in unknown area you need to look very often in your mobile to stay on path. During nice sunny day your screen brightness on mobile needs to be set on 110% to be able to see something on the screen and your battery discharges very fast(sounds familiar?).
Showing turn-by-turn navigation instructions directly on clock face eliminates the need to launch separate application every time when you look at the watch when navigating on your route. Turn-by-turn instruction with navigation image will be right there when screen turns on.
No need to waste battery on the mobile with screen on all time while looking for directions and keep your mobile in your hands all time, keep your mobile in safely in your pocket/bag and all navigation instructions are delivered instantly on your wrist.
How does it work?
It is integrated with Google Navigation using its notifications and it is necessary to grant notification access to "D.M.A Navi Watch" to be able to see turn-by-turn navigation instructions from Google Navigation directly on your Gear.
After that just start navigating to desired place on your mobile using Google Navigation and follow the navigation instructions on your Gear.
When you are not using navigation, the clock displays date and current weather information with beautiful animated icons. Display, font, colours are all configurable from the application on your mobile.
--Version 1.2
Fixed missing navigation instructions on Android Lollipop
Fixed screen not turning on before turn for some users
Added experimental support for Here maps
Here maps now works, but I don't recommend it. To get notifications on the watch, you need to make sure that the application is running in background.
Second issue is that when the screen is off, Here maps does not send navigations instructions after some time and you need to wake you phone to get current navigation instructions.
I'm working on fixing this, but hopefully Here maps will fix it on their side, I don't want to wake the phone automatically.
--Version 1.1.1(attached below)
Fixed vibation alert compatablity with latest Google Maps
--Version 1.1
Improved clock design
More and better navigation images
Added vibration before turn
Added display on before turn
Added battery icon
AM/PM or 24h time syncs with the device
Compatibility with Gear S
Share button - Don't forget to rate and share :good:

Quality word, if I had to say something, I would request a little bit more space between weather and date on the screen. But it is very nice work, this is now my watch face thank you !!
I searched for it and I don't see it... do you have a link for it??

Thanks for the feedback, I agree, it will be fixed on the next version. I was also thinking to put the date on top or bottom, what do you think?

Well, date and time together make sense to me, so I think it is cool like that. thinking maybe you could add battery percentage in a corner and bluetooth icon in another to know it it is activated or not (both possible to deactivate). I was not asking too much but you seem to ask for work so here are my ideas ahah, thanks for asking! I generally like to have as much information as possible on the watch when I turn it on...

Currently im working on more subtile display of the battery percentage, but yes BT can be added too(also configurable).

Not able to find the app in Gear App Store
Is this app available for US. I am not able to find the app in Gear App Store
Wow. This is one of the most game changing, useful, and well-made apps released so far.
Thanks so much.
I am going to try it out. Although, it would be nice to have the option to have it be separate as I like my watch faces and don't know if I want to change it every time I want directions, but does sound like a good idea. Good job!!!
Thank you all for feedback.
About the watch face and navigation, due to limitations on Tizen, currently it's not possible to have app that overlays on top of others(or I'm not aware of) like I did on my android application for the end of the world(search for "Doomsday - The last rain" on Google Play).
If it was separate app you would need to launch it every time when you look at your Gear during navigating on your route and that is what I'm trying to avoid, that is the reason why I added the weather widget. More options like app shortcuts or calendar events will be added in later versions.
Don't worry, I will think up something regarding custom watch faces.
I tried it on my Gear 2. Navigation is working and also showing the text in german. But I do not see the data and the time anymore only the weather is showing up. (I use 24h Setup)
Do you have any hint for me, please?
Update -> after reboot of Gear2 the time apears but still no datw
Also, I was thinking, if you make the weather forecast temperature smaller and put it on the left of the screen, you would have room for one shortcut for an app, woud that be possible ? I'm curious.. thanks!
Very nice app....thank you! Any way to use the clock on 12 hour instead of 24 hour setting? I can't a way to change that so far...I'm stuck on 24 hour setting. Again...very nice app! Works like a charm!!
