[Q]GPS Speed - General Questions and Answers

Does someone knows an application that shows the GPS speed in the most upper bar (I don't know how it's called, but I mean the bar where you see your Google navigation icon, your 3G/Wifi logo/ reception station/ battery status clock etc)
This would be verry handy to use in combination with google navigation.
Thanks in forward!

I use Speedview. This app doesn't directly show the speed in the status bar at the top but it does have an option which allows you to keep the applicaiton alive in the backgroud even when its not the active window. This app displays a speedview icon on the status bar as long as the applicaiton is running.
I am not sure how this works in other phones but in my HTC Desire I can drag down the taskbar and view the speed.

Okay thank you for the reply, I will surely try this app.
Altough I would like an app where I can see my speed without touching my phone, and while using google maps navigation

Why not Google Navigator? It shows your speed. And don't you have a speedometer on your car?

Google maps navigator does not show my speed.
Also the meter in every car isn't 100% accurate, but gps is

I searched in all the options in google maps, but I can't find any option that shows my speed.
Does anyone if this function really is in google maps navigation?

A gps speedometer probably won't be too precise

As far as I know gps is very precise, but maybe someone else can tell me if this is really through or just a myth

Most of them are pretty precise keeping a couple of things in mind.
You need to drive at a steady speed because sat position updates are not instant.
Putting on the cruise control in your car should show a steady and correct speed (*)
At very slow speed accuracy is an issue since gps is only accurate to a couple of meter (feet) so the faster you travel that tolerance will be eliminated.
* I don't like the GPS reception of my HD2. It picks up sats really fast but there is alot of noise on the signal it gets which gives me crazy jumps in speed

All modern GPS receives use doppler measurement for speed calculation. It's very accurate and isn't affected by position inaccuracy.

anyway, no one knows an app that can do this?

lanching car panel with a custom gps navigation software

Hi there!
Anyone know if there is a way to integrate the car panel with another gps navigation software which is not location from htc or google maps ?
I'm actually using sygic!
anyone??
re up again !
I vaguely remember an early thread touching this issue. Might be found if searched for.
Conclusion was that car panel was "hard coded". The apps can't be changed, not even the free tunein radio for the payed app.
This from memory, I may be wrong....

if you are right this is very bad news...car panel is nice but I can't use HTC software for navigation while I already have sygic...
Cannot be changed, makes sense on the surface as the included apps have custom UI's for in car ease of use. You cannot even reply to sms from the Car Panel, it's restricted for a reason, to prevent the user doing overcomplicated tasks while driving. I suppose an unfortunate hangover is the restriction on SatNav apps.

Guys there is the charmeleon rom which has a Custom HTC Car APP so you can taste it ithink
Can you supply a link please ?
Indeed, I also like WAZE much more and would love to use this car panel app.
And on top of that, Google Navigation is not available in Israel yet so I'm in loose-loose situation anyway...

Off to a great start!!!
The idea is superb!
So far the app looks simple enough, haven't had any problems/bugs, so far.
What I really like, is that the app actually shows the ambient humidity, haven't seen that in any other apps so far!!
Are there any settings to be found? Am I just blind or there really isn't none?
Would be nice to choose what to show on graphs and what values to show at all.
Also: I'm seeing three temperatures, one in Celsius, on in Farenheit and another one in Celsius. The bigger (font) Celsius (on the left) seems to correspond to my room temperature, but the other one is ~8-9 degrees lower and doesn't seem to fixed with the room temperature. What is the other Celsius supposed to show? It's too low for battery and I don't have any other ideas.
A dark theme is definitely on the top end of my list, as I'm in love with the gorgeous amoled of our S4's!
What I'd like at some point is a way to send data to tasker, especially if you plan to get all the sensors working, then a plugin with tasker would make the userbase of the app even bigger, as tasker doesn't show anything special from S4 yet (I saw from tasker's homepage that the temperature variable is coming in an update, but that's all for now), no barometer, hygrometer and so on info.
A widget would be nice too, but I would like the tasker plugin more, as I like to create my widgets with UCCW.
Anyways, you're off to a great start! I'm going to be checking in on this thread regularly!
Thanks for your great idea and app,
Taavo
splash screen implemented for my sponsers
changed y-axis font size
few optimizations implemented
changed font sizes for C & F
installed app is perfect for me, i travel a lot and i dont trust weather sites or channels played with it a lot, havent seen any issues. Got a question though, is it possible to get wind reading or need a special tool for it? tnx
P.S. Wind direction, elevation with medium font for easy to see, i used your app to get quick measurements to shoot ))))))))))))
Wind measurement is not possible using build in sensors of s4. i hope it will be available soon.
Implementation is possible, but it needs gps and readings taken from 3rd party site. anyhow i will check it out when i am free.
* working items
settings page to customize most of things
Centigrade value for due point
Freeze button to stop changing readings for few seconds (in future, i plan to use this button add the freeze values into database and you can export it to excel or something...)
you can expect next update on monday.
for due point do you mean dew point?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
Works great, thanks.
But I didn't find how to change the main temperature to °C (to choose between °F and °C would be better).
And a 3 digit precision in temperature decimals is illusory : even professional thermometers have a 1-digit precision only.

i used only Sensor.TYPE_AMBIENT_TEMPERATURE in previous versions. so its not related to media services.
so far there is only two problems i think,
1 problem may be related to multiple running of instances. i will implement a previous instance check when launching app and auto kill or popup previous instance instead of starting another instance .
2 problem may related to the scheduled timer. i will try some other battery efficient way.
use exit button to completely close the application instead of android sleep.
if any other users feel battery drain, pls let me know.
inmeanwhile i uploaded next version with AirView support & C & F switching
S4 Thermometer v1.5 AdFree
Airview support removed again due to lack of api and crashes occurs in some phones. however still working on this feature somehow and plan to include in future version with better features on hover.
I finished the adaptive advertisement testing and now i removed the advertisements as promised.
new updates
* advertisements removed
* airview removed temporarily
* minor optimizations
* fixed alignment problems for some phones.
upcoming features.
* calibrate temperature
* temperature log
* export log to excel (With calibrated as well as without calibrated values)

Nice app! I would like to see an option that shows only Celsius or Fahrenheit in the graph. Furthermore, a dark theme would be really appreciated (I guess I'm not the only one who likes to have that). And the last thing: make the exit pop-up dialog (and maybe button too) more holo-ish. You've done a very good job with this app.

Updated to 4.3 OTA, what happened to Google maps??

My wife took the update this morning. She is stock unrooted. She has never been rooted and will not let me root the phone. Anyway, she used to have all of these widgets for Google maps. Each widget was a route, and it would show a green, yellow, or red traffic light, depending on traffic conditions. After she updated, all of those widgets disappeared. She is also complaining that some of her routes have changed. I put her routes in on google maps on my desktop. It did the routes incorrectly, but let me drag and drop to change them. I can't seem to do that on the phone.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might get her google maps back to where they were before and how I might get those widgets back?
Thanks

He's talking about the old version you have an app called "Navigation" with a red icon and then "Map" with map icon. Now Navigation is merged into the Map app as one. Happened on mine too. If you still have the Navigation in the app draw then you're ...."The One".

Oh, I always got to navigation from the map app and ignored the nav icon. So that would be why I didn't notice a change.
Thanks for the responses. I tried the various apk files in the post above. They all pretty much crashed on my phone. And I was unable to set up a traffic widget. After searching online and seeing numerous complaints about this, I found the route alert app. It has a decent widget with two buttons. One button gives the route time. The other brings up a route map with traffic. I will miss the green/yellow/red light widget, but this seems like a good substitute. Originally, the app did not get my route right. But it let me set a waypoint to get it to route correctly. Pretty cool.

Hey, if you're the one who set the route then why you need the app? just kidding..This app seems kind of cool, ability to set your own route and traffic alert.. wondering how accurate is the traffic alert. This would be an awesome feature.

[Q] What the heck is this notification?

Lately I've spotted a few odd notification on my phone - sometimes a cloud that seems unrelated to any specific cloud backup, and sometimes this nifty little circle (moon?). I don't recognize the icon in relation to any apps that I actually use (or might have installed), but it sure seems to want to tell me...something.
Can anyone please ID it for me (It's the first item - if you zoom in it looks to be crescent moon with stars, but on the phone I lazily only saw it as a circle in a circle or a drunken smiley maybe...) ? And if you have an idea on random cloud icons (not showing in this cap) that info would be appreciated as well!

YES! Must be! I haven't kept track of when these notifications appeared & disappeared but they could quite easily align with Agent cycles. These icons must have appeared in some update because they sure weren't always there & I've been using, and loving, Sleep Agent for several months.
Now to go check Agent documentation to see what exactly those notifications are telling me. (Sleep mode is obvious, but the cloud/moon - weather? visibility? )
Thanks krohnjw!
Pull down the notification bar, long press on the notification in question, and select app info when it pops up. That will let you know exactly what app it is.

The moon is now sleep. The clouds are no more (apparently the cloud for sleep was confusing). Otherwise it should be fairly self explanatory (the icons match those in the agent list in the app).

Those easily confused people out there. :silly:
Now that I know where to look the icon does make sense, but until you helped out I had no idea which of 200+ apps was creating this icon. If I remember correctly Agent used to put an A up top as well as notification on the shade (telling me both that I'm asleep & awake). It's a great app that's really become essential for me, but this change was (obviously!) confusing.
@nbell13 - I wasn't finding finding anything for this notification in the pull-down 'shade' hence my puzzlement.

D.M.A. Navi Watch - Clock face integrated with Google Navigation

Hi
My application just passed certification process and wanted to share it with you.
This application is available to download for free on Samsung Gear Apps. Just search for "navi watch".
Imagine you are exploring new city or just going somewhere. To be most efficient you use Google Navigation to get to your desired place, but when you are in unknown area you need to look very often in your mobile to stay on path. During nice sunny day your screen brightness on mobile needs to be set on 110% to be able to see something on the screen and your battery discharges very fast(sounds familiar?).
Showing turn-by-turn navigation instructions directly on clock face eliminates the need to launch separate application every time when you look at the watch when navigating on your route. Turn-by-turn instruction with navigation image will be right there when screen turns on.
No need to waste battery on the mobile with screen on all time while looking for directions and keep your mobile in your hands all time, keep your mobile in safely in your pocket/bag and all navigation instructions are delivered instantly on your wrist.
How does it work?
It is integrated with Google Navigation using its notifications and it is necessary to grant notification access to "D.M.A Navi Watch" to be able to see turn-by-turn navigation instructions from Google Navigation directly on your Gear.
After that just start navigating to desired place on your mobile using Google Navigation and follow the navigation instructions on your Gear.
When you are not using navigation, the clock displays date and current weather information with beautiful animated icons. Display, font, colours are all configurable from the application on your mobile.
--Version 1.2
Fixed missing navigation instructions on Android Lollipop
Fixed screen not turning on before turn for some users
Added experimental support for Here maps
Here maps now works, but I don't recommend it. To get notifications on the watch, you need to make sure that the application is running in background.
Second issue is that when the screen is off, Here maps does not send navigations instructions after some time and you need to wake you phone to get current navigation instructions.
I'm working on fixing this, but hopefully Here maps will fix it on their side, I don't want to wake the phone automatically.
--Version 1.1.1(attached below)
Fixed vibation alert compatablity with latest Google Maps
--Version 1.1
Improved clock design
More and better navigation images
Added vibration before turn
Added display on before turn
Added battery icon
AM/PM or 24h time syncs with the device
Compatibility with Gear S
Share button - Don't forget to rate and share :good:

Quality word, if I had to say something, I would request a little bit more space between weather and date on the screen. But it is very nice work, this is now my watch face thank you !!

Well, date and time together make sense to me, so I think it is cool like that. thinking maybe you could add battery percentage in a corner and bluetooth icon in another to know it it is activated or not (both possible to deactivate). I was not asking too much but you seem to ask for work so here are my ideas ahah, thanks for asking! I generally like to have as much information as possible on the watch when I turn it on...

Currently im working on more subtile display of the battery percentage, but yes BT can be added too(also configurable).

Not able to find the app in Gear App Store
Is this app available for US. I am not able to find the app in Gear App Store
Wow. This is one of the most game changing, useful, and well-made apps released so far.
Thanks so much.
I am going to try it out. Although, it would be nice to have the option to have it be separate as I like my watch faces and don't know if I want to change it every time I want directions, but does sound like a good idea. Good job!!!
Thank you all for feedback.
About the watch face and navigation, due to limitations on Tizen, currently it's not possible to have app that overlays on top of others(or I'm not aware of) like I did on my android application for the end of the world(search for "Doomsday - The last rain" on Google Play).
If it was separate app you would need to launch it every time when you look at your Gear during navigating on your route and that is what I'm trying to avoid, that is the reason why I added the weather widget. More options like app shortcuts or calendar events will be added in later versions.
Don't worry, I will think up something regarding custom watch faces.
I tried it on my Gear 2. Navigation is working and also showing the text in german. But I do not see the data and the time anymore only the weather is showing up. (I use 24h Setup)
Do you have any hint for me, please?
Update -> after reboot of Gear2 the time apears but still no datw
Also, I was thinking, if you make the weather forecast temperature smaller and put it on the left of the screen, you would have room for one shortcut for an app, woud that be possible ? I'm curious.. thanks!
Very nice app....thank you! Any way to use the clock on 12 hour instead of 24 hour setting? I can't a way to change that so far...I'm stuck on 24 hour setting. Again...very nice app! Works like a charm!!
