Normally I wouldn't ask this kind of question here (as it seems like a simple question) but I'm at a loss and have not found an answer anywhere.
I have a few questions about sprite backup that I hope someone here can answer:
First off, my device is a Kaiser in case it matters (I don't think so in this case except my last and least important question)
1) When backing up with sprite, I always get the error that it can not include Windows\lic\Isoma000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.db. Why doesn't it back this file up and could it pose any problems in the long run?
2) After a hard reset, if I restore using one of my backup files, i get a lot of errors on the report. Most of the errors say "Error creating value Defalut" but a few say other thing like "Error creating Threading Model / Merit / IsRendered". However, if I do not hard reset prior to restore, i get no errors. What is the problem here? I can't think of any reason why a hard reset prior to restore would be bad.
3) After hard reset, restoring one of my backups causes sporatic duplications in the programs view (i.e. windows\start menu\programs). Usually it is tasks, calculator or calendar that is duplicated but if it is one or all is completely random it seems. I know I can simply delete these dupes but why is it happening in the first place and how do I prevent it? Secondly, i don't know what else it is duping on the device and don't want to browse every file on the device to find out.
4) This one is a little more Kaiser specific but still in regards to sprite. On the apps disk, the are two separate sprite files it seems. The only difference I can see is on has the PPC and desktop version while the other is just the cab for PPC. Funny thing is, the cab is labled as HTC Backup even though it is obviously sprite after install. This is the one I used for install since I didn't care much about the PC agent. Could this be part of my issue? Also, is there any reason I should install one over the other if I don't care about the PC side of sprite (I suppose I could install using that file and then uninstall the pc side but....). This one is more of a curiosity overall as I don't see why it would matter shich version I installed (assuming the file called HTC Backup...... is the same.)
Please help me to understand what's going on here. While not new to PPC, I am new to sprite as I have always used SPB in the past and never had these issues. Wanted to try sprite due to the extended options. Now I'm wondering if my decision to try sprite over SPB was the wrong one.
Can it really be that no one has experienced any of these issues considering that a great majority of XDA user have at least tried sprite backup?
(I really don't usually post in the general forum but thought it might be the best place for this. Maybe it's just that my choice of forums was bad as there seems less activity in the General section..who knows)
Which would you recommend for both FULL backups of EVERYTHING?
Which is better in terms of Ease of use?
Ideally It should be able to Backup and restore everything (ROM/OS, Apps, Settings, Contacts, messages etc etc) IN ONE GO While also being able to just restore Apps, Settings etc ONTO AN UPDATED ROM.
Can either Sprite or PSB do both of the above? and if they can both do it all....which is best?
As well as answering the poll, please feel free to post whether or not you have used BOTH apps or not, also pros and cons of each etc.
Thanks.
Neither. Just use PIM backup or activesync. Backing up the whole ROM and restoring is not advisable anyways, unless you use that over and over on a same ROM.

Isn't it the whole point of making the full system backup? Kind of like making ghost images on PC - so once system becomes unstable, we can easily restore everything without the tiresome reinstallation/reconfiguration?

Same here. Using a mix of PIMBackup, MyPhone, Outlook/WMDC, and Sashimi.
SPB all the way baby!
Not used anything else since i first tried it!
The beauty of it is, it backs up absolutely everything with a few clicks, and you can restore parts of a back up if you don't want a full restore (mainly contacts for me)
Was gobsmacked when it even backed up my opera settings eg. cache on mem card. Haven't found anything it wont backup.
So personally, SPB peeps!
Hope it helps you!
Been using SPB Backup for quite a while.
Being I flash so many ROM's, it saves me a lot of time.
I have also used Sprite, but normally use SPB.
Thanks for the input so far chaps, keep those oppinions coming peeps

I think p107r0 hit the nail on the head with what I'm looking for... basically I want Norton Ghost For HD2 lol.... Or that type of FULL backup and restore.
BUT I also want the app to be able to restore everything EXCEPT the OS specific items (for if/when I flash a different ROM).
Sounds like SPB Does it all.
No votes for sprite then?
Early days yet but SPB is sounding like a winner so far (I'm lazy so I really wanted my backups 'centralised rather than having to use PIM backup AND MyPhone AND sashimi etc).
Thanks again peeps...
BTW... tkalli and snowblind: Would you say SPB is easy to use (noob friendly)?
not sure about Sprite, but SPB comes with a small desktop application similar to Ghost Explorer, enabling you to browse through the backup file and selectively extract selected files and/or even registry keys/entries
Resco Backup is very good program for Leo.
i also used it, but of no apparent reason it caused a problem on my phone. when i was changing the lockscreen wallpaper, my phone was freezing, had to take the battery out every time. with spb backup I use, no issues so far

Thanks for all your input peeps.... much appreciated.
I know 27 isnt exactly a good sample size but the votes are so stacked in SPBs favour that it looks like a no-brainer already.
Talking of no-brains...
Can anyone who uses SPB Backup, and changes ROMs frequently, tell me if it is possible to restore a 6.5 backup to a 6.5.x ROM???
Would there be any parts of the backup which could be restored to 6.5.x? all of it? none of it?
I'm using a recent EnergyRom based on 6.5. I love it and have just got it set up how I like it so its time for my first full backup, which is where SPB now comes in.
BUT, if I decide to try out a 6.5.x ROM, will I have to start all over again or can all/part of my 6.5 backup be restored???
Thanks in advance.

both apps seem to have "ROM upgrade mode", not sure though how it works,
unless someone more experienced in the subject gives his view, you could try to check in the manuals (if available online that is)
pim and core cell backup built into newer core cell roms
First want to say hi. I want to backup my evo since im replacing it with a newer evo since there is a problem with mine its hardware problem. but any way is there a way i can completly take everything from my current phone to new one Apps photos settings launcher pro(paid)im getting the phone tom they called todayso plz help me out plz try and keep it simple if possible
First you should be aware that all of your paid apps are permanently tied to the Google account that you used / created when you first set up the phone. This means that as long as you use the same credentials when setting up the new EVO you will find all off your purchased apps waiting for you in the market.
Second know that most of your personal data is stored on the SD card as opposed to the phone memory itself. If you reuse the same card you will likely find your data is waiting code you without using a backup restore utility.
Despite the above I am a fervent devotee to backing up and use several apps in tandem. I you only have one I think Titanium Backup is the way to go. My Backup Pro another alternative. These will backup and restore all of your apps with data so it is like you never lost a beat. They will even restore desktop layout and call logs or text messages.
My last advice is to get the free app called dropbox. T give you 2 gigs of online storage which get linked to a special folder on your phone. Put a file in the folder and it will get uploaded into your web vault. From there you can access the files from your PC as well.

There is a way to encrypt all the filesystems (/system, /data/, /sdcard, etc..) on the Nexus S? Like dm-crypt does on a standard Linux box..
Recently I got worried about protection of my system..
I know there's stuff to encrypt files or directories, but really don't exist tools to keep whole device encrypted?
How do you protect data on your phones?

Correct me someone if I'm wrong but I remember seeing something about device encryption in ICS so it might work then.

Thanks for reply.. And yes, ICS will have this feature (I saw it in the SDK-based port, and I think it's already available).
Surely I can wait until a stable ICS-based ROM will be released, but I wondered how people do this at this time..
Anyway, nevermind.. I think I'll be waiting for ICS directly, giving special attention to my phone!
what exactly do you want ?
if just like keep somebody else to see your gallery , contacts or something like that , MIUI has that feature , and lots applications...
easiest way , why don't you just put out your battery ?
I would protect especially login credentials of several services (e.g. google, facebook, msn, skype, etc..): all those informations are stored in /data partition, not in SD. Of course, I'd not dislike protect even sms or contacts, or everything else.
Anyway, I found something: Whispercore. This seems exactly what I've been looking for (encrypt /data and /sdcard as well).
I will also check MIUI features.

I was trying to jailbreak my omnia w and 2nd gen until now are impossible right?
I try to put an older diagnosis version and I made a Backup with the application: WP7 Easy Backup (It's fantastic).
Then I made everything with my phone but no results, then I made it an hard format (Volume - + Camera + Power)
And I recover the phone with WP7 Easy Backup. Guess what all my applications and tiles and contacts are on the phone....
Now I'm thinking: It's possible to transform .xap (like applications and games) into *.dat and .dat.hash edit the manifest.xml lines, put the files on the backup folder and after recover the aplications appers on the phone like magic? If it is possible we don't need to jailbreak the phone! Right?
What you think guys? It is just a dream or it's possible?
Best regards, sorry my english it's hard thinking in portuguese and try to transform the words in english.
It's not possible, backup files are encoded.
