Thinking in a solution (n00b) - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to jailbreak my omnia w and 2nd gen until now are impossible right?
I try to put an older diagnosis version and I made a Backup with the application: WP7 Easy Backup (It's fantastic).
Then I made everything with my phone but no results, then I made it an hard format (Volume - + Camera + Power)
And I recover the phone with WP7 Easy Backup. Guess what all my applications and tiles and contacts are on the phone....
Now I'm thinking: It's possible to transform .xap (like applications and games) into *.dat and .dat.hash edit the manifest.xml lines, put the files on the backup folder and after recover the aplications appers on the phone like magic? If it is possible we don't need to jailbreak the phone! Right?
What you think guys? It is just a dream or it's possible?
Best regards, sorry my english it's hard thinking in portuguese and try to transform the words in english.

It's not possible, backup files are encoded.

Backing up SMS

Hello!
I've searched all the threads about that and haven't found anything that would pick my attention.
Is there a way to back my SMS up on my Vox without installing Outlook on my PC (Jeyo, hate Microsoft crap)?
Perhaps they are stored in a file? Or there is a freeware app that does it...
Thanks
Depending on what you mean by "backing up"..... this may be of use....

It's freeware, but was originally written for PPC devices; the author has made a SmartPhone version, but is not sure if it's 100% - this is your opportunity to test and to offer suggestions for future enhancements
HTH,

I didn't want to make a new thread, so I posted it in my last one.
How to backup & restore pim.vol and cemail.vol files easily? There are errors due to access voliation.
I managed to copy pim.vol to storage, but when I restored it to phone memory after hard reset,
my phone couldn't start and I had to hard reset again. Is there anyone to help?
Thanks

duplicating phone

I have multiple tilts, and want to make them all the same... is there a way that after I've got one working the way I want it to quickly duplicate/copy everything to another tilt?
I've looked at the kitchen stuff, but need a good walk thru to make heads or tails,,,
I basically am taking someones already cooked ROM, then modifying it and adding the CABS I want, and the config settings I want for the phone. I am also changing start menu layout to my liking.
thanks in advance!

I did a search and can't find an easy answer to this. Anyone have a suggestion?
you can use sprite backup and then do a "upgrade" restore to get most of your stuff on the other tilts. will need to reconfigure email though. please read the help and faq at Sprite's website before you do it.
You want aprogram called SPB Kiosk. I'ts not cheap, but I did some beta testing for them & can probably send you a test copy that's fully functioning. PM me if u want.
why do you need multiple tilts? not to be a smart ass but just dont see the logic. in regard to your question why not install the same rom/radio on each and load your preferred cab files on an sd card and just load them up. its a bit tedious however it shouldnt exactly be brain surgery. plus use pim backup so each phone can have same contacts etc...
Probably b/c like me they are for family &/or business use.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the suggestions so far are to backup the programs and settings but not the ROM. Am I confused?
What you are looking for is something like Sprite Clone (but it aint cheap).

Spb Backup does a complete backup and restore of everything you have installed, all PIM data, and all Register settings, but doesn't install the ROM. I would think you could flash the ROM you want on every other device, and then take the Restore file from the complete unit and run it on every other unit. The Restore file is a self-contained .EXE file, it doesn't need the program to be installed (because the whole point is that it will reinstall everything even if your current program structure is FUBAR)

HTC Touch HD Today Screen

Hi all
i'm new to site and have a couple of Questions ( hope some one can help)
My phone is a HTC Touch HD (6.1)
i want to make changes but still want that safety net in the original operating system.
1/ How do i Copy the OS to reinstall if it all goes pete tong.
As my phone has a habit of crashing once or twice a month.
2/ after instaling programs is it possible to safe them in a way that if i do a hard reset they are apart of the new OS as my default
3/ My ideal home screen is the Touch HD clock with program shortcut icons underneath.
the closest software to do that is the (SPB Pocket Plus)
but i prefer the HTC Look and feel
I am a very very fast learner but am wary to do anything until i know my OS is safe
Be sure to head over to the forum for your device and check the stickies for lots of this info.
In terms of re-flashing to stock, you can download that ROM (check the wiki) and keep it somewhere.
Unfortunately, there is no way to keep apps installed when switching ROMs, but just keep all of your CAB's in one place and it won't take long.
Again, check out the device forum for the Touch HD there are ton's of great ROM's that people have cooked up, get your Hard SPL installed and start checking them out.
Happy flashing!
Hey there buddy...
first, find a copy of the stock rom
create a backup of your phone and calling history using Sprite backup and PIM Backup-using all three (stock rom and backups) to restore your phone to the times.you created the backups. (almost like a system restore on your pc) in case you don't like what you've done...
Regardimg a program being part of your OS (ROM) in case you hard reset, the only way this could.happen is if the 'chef' (person who created the rom) had it preinstalled. A great way to restore programs in one easy step is by using Bengalih Sashimi 8.0 stored in your SD card. Will allow you in one step to reinstall all programs either to phone or storage card without having to soft reset every time. Of course, your cabs need to be saved in your storage card. It's quite easy
Check out the HD (Blackstone Wiki) as it has tons of info...any questions, simply post in these threads....

thank you all for the info .
am about to take the leap of faith and instal Hard SPL

Swapping two HD7

My old HD7 screen cracked and rather than replacing it, I found a used HD7 at the same cost (little lower) than a new screen. I've already backed up my Old HD7 can I just do a restore on the New HD7 or can I swap microSD cards putting the old one into the new device, will it work? Or are the backups and microSD coded to a serial number on the device itself?
Unfortunately, it is not possible two use a backup from another device (as far as I know ). You can probably use the sdcard but all data will be lost...
However, you don't have to buy all apps again and Windows Live will resotre your contacts, appointements

I was trying to save my sms, settings, and data that is not restore-able via live.
Search for wp7 app backup for some programs that may help you.
I just ment that you'll lose not everything. Note that by now there is no official way to backup 3rd party data and you probably need a custom rom wich is unlocked (maybe even full unlock)

[Q] How to restore the registry

Hello, I messed up my registry and now cannot run any apps. I accidentally deleted an accent in HKLM\ControlPanel\Accents\1\ (I cannot remember the exact path). Now I cannot get to the Themes settings menu and cannot run the Root tools to correct my mistake. Is there any way that I can restore the missing registry key and get things working again? My backup is compromised and a Hard reset is the last resort. Thanks in advance.
Samsung Omnia 7, OS 7.10.8107.
Aaaaaand this is why we never go poking around the registry without a recent phone backup!
The only possible solution that I can think of - which might work, but there's no promise at all - is to write an app that uses the Samsung OEM registry DLL or provxml interface to try and fix your registry as an app launches, before the app tries to load its Silverlight brushes, checks the registry for their info, and freaks out.
