Hello, I messed up my registry and now cannot run any apps. I accidentally deleted an accent in HKLM\ControlPanel\Accents\1\ (I cannot remember the exact path). Now I cannot get to the Themes settings menu and cannot run the Root tools to correct my mistake. Is there any way that I can restore the missing registry key and get things working again? My backup is compromised and a Hard reset is the last resort. Thanks in advance.
Samsung Omnia 7, OS 7.10.8107.
Aaaaaand this is why we never go poking around the registry without a recent phone backup!
The only possible solution that I can think of - which might work, but there's no promise at all - is to write an app that uses the Samsung OEM registry DLL or provxml interface to try and fix your registry as an app launches, before the app tries to load its Silverlight brushes, checks the registry for their info, and freaks out.

I've searched for months for an answer to removing the system tray on WM5 & WM6
Edit your registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplt
Export the Trayapplt string just to be safe you can merge it back if you change your mind.
Once exported delete the Trayapplt string completely and then soft reset your device.
System tray gone and the space is usable
Enjoy
You could have just removed the Init_Tray.lnk in the windows startup folder.
I afraid for most people that doesnt work as they dont even have that link file. I think the difficulty with the system tray is that different people have different circumstances. Some people can remove the int_tray link but If you search the web your'll see a lot of people desperate for a alternative method as they do not have this file on their devices.
It maybe the case that my method may not work for everybody but until someone produces a stable app to remove the system tray we'll keep searching for the best way individually to achieve this.
Sorry, didn't realize that that link didn't exist on all WM devices, but I haven't owned every device to know that. There are however programs that force the system tray such as DotFreds task manager and MyMobiler, etc, which even removing the Init_Tray.lnk doesn't fix because the icons will create their own system tray. Does your fix for it stop them from doing that? If it does, then I might just have to try your fix out for myself.
So far ive been running this setup for 2 days.
I use xcpuscaler which 110% uses a system tray icon whilst running. Ive also minimised many programs and the tray has never reappeared. Im not garenteeing this will work but I do know that its worked perfectly for me.
I hope this helps and if you export the reg as I sugested if the tray doesnt stay hidden for you for some reason then you can always merge it back
Hmm, my kaiser doesn't even have that key so I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm not sure if my wizard does or not, I'm working on cooking a new ROM for it and the ROM I have on it now is kind of messed up. I'll have to check it out when I get my new one cooked though.
fair enough, it seems to be very device related, im talking intensively to a strong programmer to try and sort out something permemantely.
Im running a XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Willl post any findings here
sorry it didnt work for you

that did the trick for me - thanks
Thanks, just joined today and i am now very happy with the fact this hack worked for me
Joined the forum chasing icons and now i think i wont be able to ever leave
Thanks again.....
No TrayApplt in my registry, unfortunately. Still can't figure out how to remove the tray bar on my Vario II (WM5) permanently. Whatever I tried, nothing worked to my satisfaction..
Edit: No Init_Tray.lnk either! Still looking for solutions, every solution is very welcome as long as it works...
Disable system tray for everything

My Tilt doesn't have that key either. I don't use the tray, have it disabled, but Task Manager always creates it again, until I exit Task Manager.
My Wizard doesn't have that key either.
Programs I have found so far that may cause the system tray to appear:
- Dotfred's Task Manager
- My Mobiler
- Pocket Informer
- SOTI's Pocket PC Controller (or similar: I don't recall its name)
- SPB Pocket Plus
All of these can be made to not create a system tray through their respective settings or otherwise, I believe. Currently I have MyMobiler, Dotfred's, Pocket Informer and Pocket Plus installed, and I have no system tray on my Kaiser. The above registry hack didn't work for me.
Hey guys. Iv been searching google all night for a way to resolve this but to no avail. The most info I can find is of people missing programs from the list and the resolution there seems to be to edit the the registry at HKLM/Security/AppInstall but the programs on my list aren't in there. Here's the situation.. I backed everything up on my phone before I flashed the new leaked ATT rom on my fuze. I got it all up and running and went to restore just my contacts and text messages/email. Whenever I try to do that it also restores my remove programs list which I dont have on my phone yet. When I go to remove them from the list it tells me they arent there and asks if i want to remove from list, which I hit yes and nothing happens. Now I have tried all kinda of combinations on the restore trying to get just my contacts and they wont come over just by restoring personal databases. It seems there is also another registry key somewhere for the contacts to be restored, which I have to restore system databases for them to show up. Unfortunately this brings along my list of installed programs that arent installed yet and most likely some other stuff I dont know about. Does anyone know what I need to do to restore just my contacts/messages and nothing else? Or I would even settle for a way to get rid of the programs on that list, if theres another registry key I don't know of or some .dll file somewhere with that info stored in it. Thanks in advance.
Greg
nevermind, i just ended up backing up everything with pim and then hard resetting again.
Greg,
You did the right thing in the end. Never try to use a backup on a different rom, even if you are only trying to get contacts/messages back, it will only end in tears. PIM backup as you said, is the right way to go!
Hello!
I´m using the energy Rom.
So I update it every one or two weeks.
Problem is, that after every update, all my adjustments are gone.
Of course there are some backup programs on the rom, but they are not working the way I want to.
I´m looking for a backup program which have the same capabilitys like:
- PIM Backup
- CHT-Editor backup
- Settings export
But the program also should backup
- Home screen taps adjustments
- reinstall programs
And it also should rearrange all the icons in programs, settings, and so on, like i did it.
I already looked for sashimi, but the wimo-experts page is down.
If someone knows a good backup program, please let me know.
Thank you very much in advance!

Download Kheb 1.1 and learn how to backup user settings. There isn't going to be any magic program that selectively backs up everything you want/need and leaves behind junk and potentially harmful material. Learn how to search and backup registry keys and settings files. It's really not that hard to do. Then use sashimi or a similar app to restore your settings. Or just put all the reg keys in one file and import it manually.
Hi all
Using a Samsung Focus I have been making simple changes in the registry. I modified the colors and had no problems, but as soon as I added a colour name and value I started having problems. I can't enter the themes under settings and can't open apps (but can enter messaging/email etc). Most importantly I cant enter the reg editor to fix it. Is there any way to fix this without resetting the phone? I stupidly haven't backed up my phone.
Cheers
Nic
Not meet your problem but wish someone could help you.
Restore your latest full backup.
So, I changed the name of the light theme to a custom name by using the wp7 root tool by heathcliff. After doing that, I can't open any apps on my phone, not even root tool or nokia's own diagnostic tool or games (well, game is considered an app). The app actually opens for like 1 second and closes instantly. Even after rebooting the phone, the same thing happens. I am still able to access email and the phone setting except for theme.
I am trying my luck by asking if there's anyway to edit the phone's registry by using PC and if there's no way, then sad enough, I'll have to hard reset my phone

you did make a backup of your device via zune before poking around didn't you?
if you have used zune to update recently you can restore to that which may lose some stuff but at least not everything
as for changing the reg via the PC without being able to run any apps on the phone, I believe your out of luck
I'm guessing you have a Lumia 710? It *might* be possible to write an app that uses the Nokia registry access or provxml driver (I.E. doesn't require Root Tools) and is able to modify the registry at launch, before it tries to load its UI (trying to load the UI probably being the step where things will break and crash). Might, I say...
Thanks to everyone for taking their time to reply, I did not backup my phone and does not have the knowledge to make an app. I think the easiest way out for me is to just hard reset my phone.
