Unlocking US Moto G to use outside US? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My brother ordered a moto G as a "souvenir" from US but accidentally ordered an US locked version and only to realise that after we have returned to Vietnam. Now are there anyway to unlock the band frequencies ? Here in Vietnam we use different frequencies from US and currently the phone can get signal and 2G networks but doesn't seems to be able to get 3G network and that means trouble for us. Thanks in advance.

It is not a locked version, else you wouldn't even get a signal. It doesn't even have the hardware for the frequencies you need. Sorry, the global version was also on sale here and your brother should have gotten that.

Thanks for the quick reply. Here's a plot twist he actually realized that he had ordered the wrong version and canceled it, Amazon even sent a letter confirming the cancelation. He ordered the international afterward and now we stuck with 2 moto G(s) even though we have already cancelled it.

And you need to return the old one or amazon will charge you. An order on amazon is still shipped even though you cancel. The turnaround is too quick to stop shipment.

Where was you Nexus S manufactured?

Hi!
Can you please post where did your Nexus S was manufactured?
Untill now, all Nexus S (GT-i9023) I know were made in Korea.
But today a friend of mine ordered one from Expansys Europe and they told him the one they are shipping is made in china, which is awkward!
Can you please drop your fededback on this?
(I guess that info from Expansys is incorrect, but that's just my 2 cents!)
If I may ask, why is this relevant? Might there be differences in performance we are trying to measure?

What about NS ?
Mine (i9020T) says its made in Korea.
Sorry I only know where it's not made

Definitely NOT. The Google Play store mentions in a footnote that it will only work on T-Mobile & AT&T.

Isn't that the Google Edition? That will not work on Verizon. But I believe the OP is asking about the Developer edition.

It could still work, we'd need someone to test. The M7 developer edition supported T-Mobile but only on 3G/FauxG. But flashing the T-Mobile radio to it enabled LTE connectivity.

I contacted HTC yesterday. The rep told me that both the Unlocked (sim unlocked) and Developer models will operate on Verizon.

Possibly. But the spec sheet for our model doesn't mention the T-Mobile compatibility we've seen so far. I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if HTC just used software/firmware to disable bands (or maybe not at all) in order to avoid making 5+ different pieces of hardware.

How long until it ships? If you get it within 12 days, I'll return my retail and go dev.

According to the website, yes. But it very likely has the CDMA radio hardware in there in order to save HTC the cost of manufacturing multiple devices. Much like how our locked model can connect to T-Mobile LTE, though you will find no mention of those bands being supported.

So....does it work?
The only devices that work with Verizon are ones that are "certified" by them. There has been talk of a developer edition specifically for Verizon.

Well, I guess that's a good point. I guess I'm just so used to instantly voiding my warranties every time I get a new phone or tablet I don't even think about that...

Need an opinion: XT1032 or XT1033

So I'm planning on getting a Moto G, the 16GB version. The question is, which one?
I'm not from the US, so the XT1032(single sim) has to be bought by a friend/relative in the US then given to me. Now, there's an XT1033 which price has been recently lowered to $205.00 locally.
So the question is, which one should I get? I'm not entirely going to use the second sim slot so a Single sim would be perfect for me, although if I were to get the XT1033, what am I to lose, what's being compromised? The rom I intend to flash is CM11, which to my knowledge is already unified.
XT1032 = $199.00 c/o Amazon
XT1033 = $205.00(converted and rounded off) locally available
Any and all opinions will be greatly appreciated.
I guess you should go for the XT1032, since quite a few ROMs don't support the XT1033 if you change from CyanogenMod. Also, the second sim icons are pretty annoying if you're using only one sim. Plus, from what I see, you'll be saving 6 dollars!

Great. I guess I'll be going for the XT1032 instead, else if I couldn't get someone to purchase it for me then I'll be falling to the XT1033.
The case options would be limited too since I wouldn't know where to obtain a trident or otterbox case locally.
You can use the same case for both phones.

Well, that's the beauty of it.
Scratch the XT1032, I might get the Moto G 4G LTE instead. It's got LTE and expandable storage:silly: Now, if my carrier doesn't support any of the LTE bands, will the phone be still useful? Also, in your opinion, how long before CM becomes compatible with the device too? Considering that it's unified but only the dual-sim variant -- XT1033.
They'd probably have to build separately for 4G LTE because of some of the hardware differences, whereas for the XT1032 and XT1033 CM11 is virtually stable. At least for me.

OnePlus One on T-Mobile - Chinese or not?

My fiance just bought the OnePlus One on eBay for a cool $400, no shipping. 64GB. Very nice deal, no yellow bands, no WiFi issues. She loves it and I admit, I do like it. A lot. However, she activated it yesterday on TMO and it doesn't seem to be getting LTE signals. I was told the back of the Chinese variants do not have the CYANOGEN branding, but hers does. Is there something I'm missing?
No idea... But LTE working fine here out of the box. Make check APN?

I'll try that later. I'm trying to get on the line w/ TMO about a similar issue on my Shield Tablet. We're both at work so may not be able to check that for a day or two.
I just purchased mine brand new from OnePlus One website for total of $363 .. 64 GB.
Idk why you over paid.
I, too, use t mobile and will be able to comment on this once I receive my phone.

I'm still waiting on mine ^.^ Having played with hers (and having an HTC m7 and Sony Z3 to compare it to), it's quite the nice device! Glad her first Android experience is one of these w/o issues. She loves the screen size.
I'm not trying to insult with this but...
The obvious question is: does Tmo provide LTE in your area?
What APN is showing in settings?
