Just flashed KitKat... looks same as JB? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, just flashed the US version of kitkat on my UK moto g, it says it's kitkat 4.4.2 in about phone, and the white icons in the status bar are there, but the launcher button is still the same as JB? not the new design, but the new dialer is there and hangouts etc.. but how do I get google now to work and be on the left when I scroll left? and how do i get it to work by saying "ok google"?
Thanks
EDIT: ok I got "ok google" to work but it only works by going into the google now part, and not from the homescreen? (had to change language to us english instead of uk)

Google "How to install Google experience launcher" you will then find the new launcher, some KitKat features were nexus 5 only , I think that's why other nexus devices and Motorola devices got the old style launcher .

Thanks I've figured it out and been playing around with it loving it so far.

How do you remove the search bar in 4.4?

Just seems stuck there.
It's part of the OS now, and it's not something you can really get rid of without using a custom ROM. I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure it's there to stay on the "pure stock" Nexus 5.
If you change your launcher that will get rid of it. But then you loose "OK Google" listening functionality
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
You've never been able to get rid of that on the stock launcher.
The only way is to download/buy a custom launcher like Nova or Apex. Doing so you lose the 'ok google' from the homescreen and slide to google now, and all 4.4 features like the transparency.
Nova and Apex i'm sure will add the 4.4 graphics but the other features most likely will never be added.
Nova has supported gestures for years. You would not lose slide to now. Nova also has transparency support build in though I can't say yet if it works on 4.4
Ok Google May be lost but that is not certain. If it is reliant on the launcher.

I'm amazed android still haven't implemented the gestures of nova, like swipe down for notification bar. On these large screens it's vital
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
With the source for KitKat being available, and with it being a Nexus device, i honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see an update come down the line at some point soon from Nova with support for a lot of KitKat's features, even quite possibly "Ok Google"
Since I don't use google now the swipe and voice functions are no loss to me. On the other hand I will never use their stock launcher until I can move the search bar out of the location where it is and put it where I have put it since android came out. Really torques me that its immovable, I mean how many ways do you need to open up google now on the same screen for christ sake?

[Q] Google Now Voice issue

Hi
I'm having problems with google now voice commands, it works when I click the search bar and go into google now but not on the home screen nor lockscreen, OK google checked In settings + audio history enabled, tried both eng uk + eng us language , thought it was nova launcher but tried it on stock launcher same issue, any ideas?
Moto g 4g xt1039
Unlocked BL
Root+Stock 4.4.4 flashed via CWM 6.0.5
Seems to be issue with kitkat 4.4.4 , earlier on kk 4.4.2 OK Google was working on home screen, but after latest update the whole eco system of OK Google is just ruin, I don't know any rock solid solution but as I am on Google experience launcher OK Google is working fine only on home screen, I selected my default language as UK eng, but OK Google everywhere still seems to be a distant dream.... We can only hope that Anroid/Google search update will resolve this issue...
Sent from my XT1033 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I read that only the nexus devices get access to Google now from the lockscreen and that others have got voice working from homescreen by setting the language to eng us rather than eng UK however I didn't test google now before my update so I don't know about general compatibility for the moto g lte other than what I have experienced in 4.4.4, anybody else having the same issues or can verify what I read?
Sent from my XT1039 using XDA Free mobile app
it works with English (US)

[APP UPDATE] Google Search Version: 4.0.28.1516623.arm

Hey guys, i extracted this from the ASUS Nexus 2012 version. It has the fancy material design makeover. Works without a flaw on Kitkat 4.4.4. It also gives the white look on the Google Now Launcher (supposedly called velvet). It is unhindered.

The one which has been posted till yet with the material design makeover is version 4.26. This one is 4.28.
What are the changes in this over one posted earlier? Any changelog?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
Thanks!!!
Installed on 2014 moto g and get constant google search force closed errors
Have a feeling when updating velvet.apk you need two files (maybe gms core)
Cheers
I didnt install the 4.26 version hence cant supply you with the changelog.
All noticeable that i can see is that there are:
material design makeover
the hamburger slide draw
the GNL integration with the visual changes
i dont use google now but perhaps there maybe some noticeable changes with the reminders available in the slide navigation drawer.
there you go:

"Classic" dialpad for KitKat and Lollipop

I like to see good old dialpad on my phone screen when I'm about to make a call.
Unfortunately Google decided that calling on the phone using numpad is a secondary feature but fortunately I work in a company that employs few Android developers and they did a 2 minute side project for me. The result is an app that launches dialpad within the stock phone app so that I can replace the phone icon on my home screen with the one that takes me direct to good old phone interface. (icon is labeled "Call")
I have tested the app on my Nexus 5 with both Android version. 4.4.4 and 5.0 and it seems to work fine.
Probably I'm not the only one who misses the old phone interface but who would like to keep using the stock dialer app, so i decided to share what I got for fixing it

Update 04.08.2016
Sorry for not keeping this thread up to date but i have posted the app to Play Store ages ago.
I can't post links but search for "Classic Dialer for Lollipop" in Play store.
Update 07.11.2016
Changed the name of the app in Play Store to plain and simple "Dialpad".

Thank you so much for this! I can't believe this did not receive more attention. Works great on Slim 4.4.4. :good:

No, you are not the only one. I really hated it when I first tried KitKat and Lollipop, and the numpad / digits would not show right away. Thank you for sharing this with everyone, it works great on Lollipop. :good:
I believe this still exists in Marshmallow. Google should really make this an option in the default app. The current behavior does not work for everyone and not everyone will find your app (or even bother looking).
5.0, 5.01, 6.x confirmed!
So...months have gone by with this annoyance... I'm running CM13, Android M.. like the other guy said, I cannot believe this app hasn't gained more attention. I have found that some of this is due to the wording of the issue at hand...kept getting alternative dialer apps in my results....BLASPHEMY... So..yeah.. So everyone knows, this also works with not only the stock dialer, but Dialer for Hangouts as well as Skype.
Too bad I can only hit "THANKS" once...
Thank you.
How to install DialerLauncher?
How to install DialerLauncher?
Newbe
with no intention to hijack your great contriubtion:
there's an xposed module that does the same thing with native app>> show dialpad
where were you before i found out this one?!
i'm sure most of the people don't want to mess with xposed, like myself, and will appreciate the provided solution(s)....
:good:
A Little Added Information...
It works very well under Nougat also. :good: Use the back button to access the recent's list.
This works on Marshmallow, if someone's wondering.
Ran across this thread trying to find a solution for the same problem. Having had a look at the linked app, I realized it was just sending some kind of intent that caused the phone app to open to the dialpad. Long story short, the Tasker "Call" action (with no phone number specified) does the same thing, so if you have Tasker, you can just create a shortcut to a task with that one action.
Well done! Thank you!
I DLed, from Play Store, following the link in the OP.
No more favorites page, when opening dialer! If you do want the favorites page, just hit the back button after opening dialer.
After a reboot it still opens the dial pad!
Using on the Moto Dialer app on Moto Z2 Play.
GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!
Works on motor 4 on 7.1.1 thanks for this
Still works on Stock Nougat. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks so much. Just what I was looking for! ??

[Q] Lollipop's launcher on Kitkat???

Hey guys, so I have Kitkat 4.4.4 installed on my Nexus 5 (for a lot of reasons, battery is much better, faster, and I love the Kitkat material design better than Lollipop).. But today, Play Store showed me an update for Google's application, so I updated it, and ever since I did that, I have Lollipop's launcher even though I'm using Kitkat o__o, so weird, do you have any information about this guys? (see screenshots).
Thanks

Is it Google Now Launcher? If so the app isn't linked to your Android version.

That's not a Lollipop feature. The Google Now Launcher was available for KitKat devices as well. It might have debuted with the Nexus 5.

It's because Google Now Launcher and Google Now are linked somehow. At first I was also stay on Kitkat and my appdrawer background was transparent. When I install Google Now from 5.0 system dump appdrawer became white.
Regards, Zagor
P.S. There is no Kitkat material design.
Okay guys thanks
I'm a noob when it comes to these stuff so pardon me xD
Is there no way I can get my usual transparent app drawer? I hate the white one.

You can flash 4.4.4 and do not install updates for google apps (launcher, velvet and prebuiltgsmcore for sure) - others maybe (also hangouts no, because it will ask for prebuiltgsmcore to update and than Google+ will fc.. Eh - better no to update any of google apps in that case.
