Hey guys, so I have Kitkat 4.4.4 installed on my Nexus 5 (for a lot of reasons, battery is much better, faster, and I love the Kitkat material design better than Lollipop).. But today, Play Store showed me an update for Google's application, so I updated it, and ever since I did that, I have Lollipop's launcher even though I'm using Kitkat o__o, so weird, do you have any information about this guys? (see screenshots).
Thanks

Is it Google Now Launcher? If so the app isn't linked to your Android version.

That's not a Lollipop feature. The Google Now Launcher was available for KitKat devices as well. It might have debuted with the Nexus 5.

It's because Google Now Launcher and Google Now are linked somehow. At first I was also stay on Kitkat and my appdrawer background was transparent. When I install Google Now from 5.0 system dump appdrawer became white.
Regards, Zagor
P.S. There is no Kitkat material design.
Okay guys thanks
I'm a noob when it comes to these stuff so pardon me xD
Is there no way I can get my usual transparent app drawer? I hate the white one.

You can flash 4.4.4 and do not install updates for google apps (launcher, velvet and prebuiltgsmcore for sure) - others maybe (also hangouts no, because it will ask for prebuiltgsmcore to update and than Google+ will fc.. Eh - better no to update any of google apps in that case.

Hey guys, i extracted this from the ASUS Nexus 2012 version. It has the fancy material design makeover. Works without a flaw on Kitkat 4.4.4. It also gives the white look on the Google Now Launcher (supposedly called velvet). It is unhindered.

The one which has been posted till yet with the material design makeover is version 4.26. This one is 4.28.
What are the changes in this over one posted earlier? Any changelog?

Thanks!!!
Installed on 2014 moto g and get constant google search force closed errors
Have a feeling when updating velvet.apk you need two files (maybe gms core)
Cheers
I didnt install the 4.26 version hence cant supply you with the changelog.
All noticeable that i can see is that there are:
material design makeover
the hamburger slide draw
the GNL integration with the visual changes
i dont use google now but perhaps there maybe some noticeable changes with the reminders available in the slide navigation drawer.

Recently, I downgraded back to Android KitKat because I hate the look of Lollipop and the memory leak is very aggravating. Everything went well and the downgrade was fine. This is what's confusing me the most. If you look closely, the notification is KitKat style with the all black but the app drawer has the look of lollipop which I hate so very much because it looks ugly. How can I revert this and stop it in the future? Any help would be good. I have attached a preview of the image below
That's the interface of Google Now launcher You can download an older version of it on the internet or use a third-party app like Nova Launcher

Thanks I just realized that after running some tests. To counter this crappy look I stopped the update of Google Now Launcher. So no more ugly app drawer
Update: After experimenting for a while I have found that the UI becomes more like Lollipop after updating Google and not Google Now Launcher

Yes. Actually, GNL is just an interface of GoogleNow.
I just updated to 5.1.1 (I know) and discovered the loss of the ability to put widgets on the lockscreen. Reading about it I discovered that Notifidgets was recommended to restore that ability. But I can't find it anywhere including the Play store.
Was it removed or discontinued for some reason? Are there alternatives?

The lock screen widgets as they appeared up until 4.4.4 was removed by Google when they released 5.0. The official reasoning was that they were "security issues". So you are extremely limited in what you can use now that you've moved on from KK. There are apps like NiLS for example, that offer a little more usability on the lock screen, but honestly nothing like what was on KK and below.,
Thank you for replying. I can see where they could be a security problem, but it is a real shame. I've looked at the options of using notifications as a partial solution but, you are correct, they are far from satisfactory. Makes me consider flashing kk again! Maybe xposed has a module to restore lockscreen widgets.

Hey everybody,
There are some threads that contain the pixel 2 launcher apk and I have tried to install it without rooting and deleting the original pixel launcher but no success. Is there's anyways I can install the pixel 2 launcher without rooting my device?
Thanks in advance.
I side loaded this and have been running it for the past week without issue.

Just install the APK over your existing pixel launcher... It's just an updated version so you don't need to delete anything ... Same with the 5.0 camera app that allows for the new hdr advance and motion capture for pictures... ( Only problem now is the play store will update to 5.1 which disables the extra features in pixel 1s ...

Can you clarify, please? What features and what triggers the update?

The features he listed in the portion of the quote that you didn't quote
A newer version available in the Play Store will trigger an update, and if you have Auto Update turned on, it happens automatically.
Hmm I just installed and even with my black wallpaper I'm still getting the white theme in the app drawer, settings, etc.

I don't even want the new launcher, I think it looks worse than the old one... but I am a little annoyed that Google seem to be holding back features that would work perfectly fine on the first gen pixels just to keep them exclusive. Mostly I am referring to the camera. Seems a bit poor to screw over people who spent lots of money on their hardware 12 months (or less) ago.

Correct, the black background in the app drawer is currently a P2 only thing.
Hello everyone.
So I upgraded to Pie like three weeks ago or so, and something that didn't quite make sense was the new recent apps design. The moto x4 doesn't have the biggest of all screens, so a horizontal recent apps was, let's say, less than efficient.
Luckily for us there's an easy way to bring back the vertical recent apps design. To do so we first need to install a third party launcher (personal favourite is nova launcher prime ), then we need to deactivate moto's stock launcher. I think we can do that directly from Settings>Apps>Show system apps and deactivating moto launcher; I did it via root explorer, the launcher apk is located in /system/priv-app/Launcher3QuickStep , in there is a file named (you guessed it) Launcher3QuickStep.apk, all you need to do is change the name to Launcher3QuickStep.apk1 or some shoot like that. Reboot and voilá, vertical stacked recent apps.
Hope this helps, cheers.
Cool. BTW, the Android One equivalent is:
/system/priv-app/AndroidOneLauncher/AndroidOneLauncher.apk
