Notifidgets - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just updated to 5.1.1 (I know) and discovered the loss of the ability to put widgets on the lockscreen. Reading about it I discovered that Notifidgets was recommended to restore that ability. But I can't find it anywhere including the Play store.
Was it removed or discontinued for some reason? Are there alternatives?

The lock screen widgets as they appeared up until 4.4.4 was removed by Google when they released 5.0. The official reasoning was that they were "security issues". So you are extremely limited in what you can use now that you've moved on from KK. There are apps like NiLS for example, that offer a little more usability on the lock screen, but honestly nothing like what was on KK and below.,

Thank you for replying. I can see where they could be a security problem, but it is a real shame. I've looked at the options of using notifications as a partial solution but, you are correct, they are far from satisfactory. Makes me consider flashing kk again! Maybe xposed has a module to restore lockscreen widgets.

[MOD][Xposed] Multiple Widgets and Camera on secure lockscreen

Android 4.2 introduced lockscreen widgets, which allow you to glance at your widgets without unlocking your device, even when it's secure.
Samsung decided to rip this apart, and disable widgets if the device is secured.
This mod fixes that, all while enabling a secure camera on the lockscreen when swiping right (Gallery button won't be shown).
Compatibility:
This mod should work on all TouchWiz 4.2 ROMs, unless Samsung decides to break it later on.
Tested and/or reported working on:
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S3 with 4.2.2 leak
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with 4.3 leak
Source:
The mod is open source, and licensed under GPLv3: https://github.com/MohammadAG/Xposed-Samsung-Multiple-Widgets
Download:
http://dl-count.xposed.info/modules/com.mohammadag.multiplewidgets_v5_a98dbe.apk
Changelog:
[1.6]
Added settings activity to select whether or not to force a camera widget (Note 3 users, you'll need to check this)
[1.5]
Support for 4.3, tested on the Galaxy Note 2, will most probably work on the Note 3.
Force the camera widget to appear, this should help S3 owners, as well as any user with a 4.3 device that doesn't have Samsung's shiny new camera.
[1.1]
Widgets can now be edited in secure mode.
You can now toggle between Favorite Shortcuts and Secure Camera in Lockscreen Settings (stock Settings app).
[1.0]
Initial release.

Installed, rebooted, no dice. Does this work with pattern lock screen? I was hoping it would. I dug around in settings and found nothing changed. Am I holding it wrong?

I use this with pattern lock.
You have Xposed framework installed right? If so, try turning off security, and checking if multiple widgets are enabled in settings then turning it back on.

As noted above, you have to have the exposed framework app installed, and then need to go into the Xposed installer and enable the module as well.
The Xposed framework app is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1957219&d=1368387321
Framework thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
I have had one glitch so far - I wake up phone and swipe to the left on the lock screen to enable the camera, and the screen goes to the intermediate grey screen showing the camera icon and then the screen goes all black and the camera doesn't open, even if I wait 15 seconds or longer.
I then hit home and swipe left again and the grey screen w/the camera icon appears and the camera opens as it should.
Can others report if they are seeing this? Mohammed - any suggestions?

DOH - just remembered, I still have your previous version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231649) of this module installed. I assume that should be disabled and uninstalled, right?

I'd say the glitch is because of Samsung's own camera code, I got a similar thing where the camera opened and threw me back to the lockscreen. In any case my code just disables their Easy Mode implementation.
My previous tweak shouldn't do anything actually, the old camera was SamsungCamera, this one is SamsungCamera2, so my mod won't find anything to mod.

Thanks, Mohammad. I've only seen it "get stuck" launching the camera a couple more times, and I've learned that if I don't see it transition from the camera icon to the camera screen within a short period of time, to just hit home and swipe again and it always works the second time.
So maybe there is some race condition (maybe not quite the right term) when the phone is first waking up on the lock screen and I swipe to the camera, and when I go back to the lock screen and swipe to the camera again the phone is now ready to launch the camera.
In any case, this solves the one remaining issue I had w/staying on stock/rooted TW for now (aside from fast USB charging), so I'm quite happy! I've been running CM pretty much exclusively on my phones since my OG Droid years ago, but I'm going to stay w/the stock TW ROM for now until I decide how badly I want to have access to the TW features that I'll lose if I go AOSP. Then I can decide if I want AOSP, modified TW, or stock.
No Dice!!!

I've read this entire thread fully and am running a Samsung Galaxy S4 on AT&T SGH-I337 running Andoird 4.2.2 on baseband I337UCUAMDL and kernel 3.4.0-453947. I rooted using Motochopper and have TWRP recovery installed. I was able to successfully install the XDA Framework and download this mod and enable it. This is what I am experiencing:
1. With no passcode lock at all, I am able to swipe from right to left and see a bunch of shortcuts. I am also able to swipe from left to right and add widgets.
2. With a passcode added and no 'secure email account' attached to my device, I am still able to swipe from right to left to see shortcuts and from left to right to see widgets.
3. However, once I setup my work email MS Exchange, which does require a passcode lock, the mod only partially works. I am still able to swipe from right to left to see the shortcuts (although to access anything I still must enter my code). But I am not completely unable to swipe from left to right to see the widgets.
I was using Nova Launcher and thought this was the problem. But even after completely removing Nova Launcher and going back to the stock TouchWiz - same problem.
Any ideas???

Seeing only a page of shortcuts, not a baddass secure camera
I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 with CleanROM 1.6.5 and no other mods. I have the Google Apps Device Policy installed and active which I have configured (as I'm the Google Apps Admin) to allow lock screen widgets.
I downloaded and installed the XPosed framework from here with ES File Manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1970286&d=1368825478 and rebooted.
I installed the Multiple Widgets apk from here http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/Xposed/GalaxyS4MultipleWidgets.apk and installed it with ES File Manager then enabled the Widget in the XPosed framework and rebooted.
When I swipe to the left I get a + which enables me to use very useful full-screen widgets such as calendar (from my Simple Calendar app) messaging, Google Now etc.
When I swipe to the right all I get is a page of shortcuts which all require my pin to access. Help I am dying to get a slick Secure Camera shortcut!
EDIT: I figured it out!! Instructions for anyone else with the same problem I was having.
You have to disable the Google Apps Device Policy, you're going to have to remove your account that requires it.
Touch Settings/My Device/Lock Screen/Screen Lock/Swipe
Touch Lock Screen Widgets/Favorite Apps or Camera/Camera/Save
Touch Back/Screen Lock then choose your security type
Then go back in and add your corporate account that requires the Google Apps Device Policy and away you go.

The game Drakerider creates that, this only happend to me when i used hacking tools on the app itself, but now only when i have your xposed mod enabled than it will create that error log, its a weird Security created by SQUARE ENIX

Oh yeah, I think I've seen someone report that about Final Fantasy. I think rovo89 mentioned that the only fix would be to disable the mod while playing the game.
Honestly I'd complain ti Square Enix, this is one of those DRM methods that only harms the user.

Is Lollipop Android 5.0 Overrated? No Xposed Framework?

I'm still sitting on 4.4.4 as I was waiting for some bugs to be squashed in Lollipop. Initially my thoughts about Lollipop were probably like most tech addicts, "newer is better." But in reading more in depth about the changes, I'm not impressed. So I pulled the trigger anyway on my LG Google Play Tablet (not my Nexus 5 phone.) And, I was not impressed at all.
- The notifications on the pull-down and lock screen are BUTT UGLY with the white background.
- No lockscreen widgets (which I use Widget Locker anyway, but still)
- No Xposed Framework compatibility (this one is a BIGGIE)
So I'm on the fence about upgrading my Nexus 5. Can someone tell me specifically what is so much better that it would justify overlooking these drawbacks (and other's I didn't mention) and upgrading now instead of waiting for a better version or at least until Xposed Framework supports ART?

I personally really like lollipop. It feels a lot more snappy than KitKat. Given that I know exposed framework issue is due to switch to art and the Dev can't find docs on it.

I'm curious what "more snappy" really means. Has anyone done any before/after timing comparisons to see how much faster it really is? Would it be any faster than going into Developer Options on 4.4.4 and turning ART on?
I said it feels more snappy as in visually. I think someone benchmarked between kitkat and lollipop on a device an found that lollipop actually ran a little slower in some spots. I think lollipop has only a couple of odd quirks. The biggest one being the lack of a sound toggle button in the notifications area.
Until Xposed works with ART, I cannot possibly upgrade. There are two things I like about Lollipop - 1) the notification pop ups and 2) the soft keys, which I can later customize with gestures. XPrivacy is the biggest deal for me, followed by APM+, App Settings and Secure Settings.

Honor 10 LAG here and there after 9 pie update

Some lag in:
scrolling lost calls and calls (very huge lag)
swipe left notifications
swipe right a menu (note application for example)
graphical glitch when exit from software and hardware battery usage
scrolling app notification menu
Most of them gone with performance mode, but none of these was in 8.1, so I reverted back.
Anyone notice these lags?
Hi,
You are not alone. I had the same problems.
Which I did was disable some Huawei system apps including the launcher after installing Nova launcher and Fluid navigation gestures.
Follow this thread for list of app, but remember to see this one for safety. Disabling apps is much safety than uninstalling them.
After doing that, the lag has been almostly gone. You will come back to Android Oreo style multitasking cards and maybe can not use the ultra power saving mode. And, with an option in Fluid now your fingerprint also works as a home button (you still can use the scan function). I choose the option to run app from lockscreen, it helps hide permanently the navigation bar (before that it takes part of second), however the lockscreen clock will be cut parly at bottom.

Can you explain what you mean by "performance boost"? Higher benchmark score? More fluid operations? Or something else?

Everything is more fluid than before. Applications starts faster and operates faster. Not experienced any lag since the change. Before that, I had a lot. Never ran any benchmark ever, so I cannot say anything about that.

If you said higher benchmark score, I will totally skip it. But since you said a more fluid operations, I will disable that stock launcher very soon.... Thanks a lot for your info.
update after disabling stock launcher :
great news for third party launcher, disabling stock launcher will solve the black/empty recent app.
and yes, its a bit more fluid. how much? I dunno....its just a feeling, no benchmark or any other measurement.

Lag in recent apps overview

I'm on a Pixel 3 XL with the latest Android update (not rooted, no custom ROM, or anything like that). I am using Nova Launcher. When I try to switch to a recent app, there is a long lag time. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens more often than not.
In the video link below, I have the "show taps" on so you can see what is going on. I clear all the recent apps. Open just 4 apps. And then try to switch to the most recent app. I tap two times, and nothing happens. But the screen is not frozen since I can still scroll through the recent apps. I tap one last time and there is still no response. And after a while, the app finally opens.
Is this a common issue on Pixels. Is there anything that can improve this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tried it with the stock launcher and it did not happen. This is super frustrating. Pixel phones are becoming iPhones now, limiting our choice. I don't know how they haven't fixed this issue yet, despite having Android 10 out for so long.

It has to do with everything being built into the launcher now, including animations. If it makes you feel better this seems pretty much completely fixed in Android 11. Are you rooted? There is a magisk module that fixes this completely on Android 10 as well.
Edited to add: it's called quickstep switcher I believe in case you're wondering

Thanks! I'll look into it. This is the first phone I haven't rooted or had a custom ROM on, mainly because of the ease of monthly OTA updates. But now I am leaning towards rooting. I'll have to research a bit about how to deal with monthly updates while rooted.

Root it but keep the old boot image. Flash the original boot image before taking the OTA. Then download the fastboot files for the new OTA from the Android site, patch that new boot image and flash that.
Feel free to PM me anytime you need any help, I'll even patch the boot image for you if you like.

Launchers and gestures problems

Pixel launcher has the annoying search bar on its home screen which is irremovable.
Nova launcher is arguably the best for customizability. But there's something that ticks me off when using Nova. Whenever you open recent apps the transition isn't smooth as with Pixel. It has a small hiccup.
(See https://imgur.com/a/lewvZu3 for what I mean)
I tried almost every launcher on the market and they all had the same problem.
So I contacted Nova's development team to give them my feedback. This is what they had to say:
"Hello,
PLEASE READ THIS RESPONSE IN FULL!
You can read Google's official statement and our statement about the issues you and anyone else using Android 10 and Android 11 are experiencing. Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android(Stated March 2019.).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google has no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
This includes things such as the CLOSE ALL/CLEAR ALL button not showing up when you access the Recent Apps screen. As well as a delay of being able to tap on app icons when returning to the home screen from another app, from viewing the Recent Apps screen or anything similar.
These problems will still be there when Android 11 is released in its final form as Google has made it clear it's not going to fix/change things any time soon.
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as contacting any launcher developer isn't the correct thing to do and isn't going to accomplish anything.
SAMSUNG USERS: Samsung has enabled full system gestures to be enabled within 3rd party launchers with their One UI 2.5 update. This means you can enable those gestures, but things are still very broken, especially when it comes to animations and how smooth the gestures work. This is NOT something Nova, or any other 3rd party launcher can fix. Only Google can fix it.
In the end, none of this is something we(Nova) can fix or change in any way and neither can any other 3rd party launcher for that matter. It is ultimately up to Google and only Google to fix full system gestures completely. Though they have made it clear that full system gestures will remain broken even with the final release of Android 11 and likely well beyond that.
We understand that this statement was made during a beta version of Android 10. However, as is stated in the below URL, this issue will remain broken even after Android 10, and now Android 11, is released in its final form. What this means is that Google knew well ahead of time that they had no plans to fix this until much later so it's still a relative issue today.

OUR STATEMENT:

As of the December 2019 Security Patch from Google, you can now enable full system gestures within 3rd party launchers. However, please note, there are still a lot of issues with the gesture system such as animations not working, Close All button not showing up and several other things. This is not something any launcher developer, including us here at Nova, can fix or change in any way.
This is still all up to Google to fix at some point in the future and to get things working 100% the way everyone expects them to be.
If you experience any issues at all while using full system gestures, it is highly suggested that you contact Google directly and/or file bug reports with them directly so that your voice can be heard by them directly.
ACTION LAUNCHER'S FALSE CLAIMS: Action Launcher made an announcement back in late December 2019, is actually misleading and 100% incorrect. They are referring to the back swipe edit zones and similar stuff. Full system gestures are completely controlled by Android and not something a launcher can just suddenly add support for or change in any way.
If you actually try to use the full system gestures in Action Launcher, you'll see they are still as broken as they have been and will remain that way until Google fixes things themselves."
Edit: uploaded an animated gif of the example but XDA converted it to a still image, so I had to upload on imgur.
I'm using Nova as well. Have you also had an issue when swiping up and holding to access recent apps, the apps fill the entire screen instead of showing the smaller preview window?

Just updated to A11 beta and the bugs are gone. It's working smoothly now.
The gestures work fine if you're willing to root and use QuickSwitch with a supported launcher. (No third party launchers support A11 with QuickSwitch yet though)
Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using XDA Labs

Search bar can be removed and more options.
See this thread
Just make sure you get the right files for A10, I have not tested on A11 yet.
