can you post your bootloader details?
How?
I've no idea how to do that.
AFAIK the phone isn't rooted etc.
I'm hoping the update is available live somehow rather than me having to take my life and phone into my own hands and root it and burn roms etc etc that frankly I'm nervous about doing.

you have the latest official update
if you want to go further do as blogodoblogodo suggested
But its not the Andriod 4 that I'm supposed to be able to update to. I would have thought there would be on on HTC site etc, or it come live.
Anyways, I'll check with HTC Australia, Telstra and Vodafone and see if I can get an official Android 4 update somehow.
BTW: Is it safe to do it .. I saw a couple of comments around about it making phone run slow etc, tho I thought Android 4 was faster.

As someone with experience with custom rom's etc ...
If it ends up that I can't get an official update live to the phone and want to update by flashing a new rom etc....
What would you recommend I get ? From your signature you've got a bit of customising and had a couple of different roms etc.
What's the best to get ?? I'm not wanting to do development etc, I just have a fast capable phone, where everything still works (don't want a rom where some phone feature don't work, like camera of wifi etc) and with a fairly recent o/s (doesn't need to be very latest, just what is good and stable.
Any advice or links etc to what you'd recommend ??
Thanks

basically every rom is pretty much stable
every rom may act differently in each device
also there is no best rom but what is best for you
a suggestion is go for viperS 5.0.0 rom which jelly bean with sense
note this: before flashing the new rom back up your current one just in case
My advice to you mate would be to stick with stock if your not comfortable messing with your phone. You have the latest official update. There will be no more. If you want a new ROM the ONLY way to do it is to Root and flash like has been suggested before. If your are going to go down this road do not do it lightly. Read, read and read again. The steps are all very do-able with little risk to your phone, if you understand the procedures. I can say though it is the best thing to do.
Good luck :good:

Hi there, I've got CM7 with S-OFF on my Sensation right now and I'm going to give my phone to my aunt since I upgraded to a GN
Just wondering, what's the easiest way to get it back to stock and wiping it too? I need it so that it'll start getting OTA updates again.. doesn't really matter if it stays rooted (I'd prefer that but whatever is easier..)
Tried looking at some guides but they all don't have what I'm looking for..

S off is not the reason you're not getting OTA, custom recovery would be the most likely culprit. To see if you are s off, poweroff the phone, remove battery, replace battery, hold volume down and power, release the power button but keep holding the volume down, H Boot should appear, it will say s off or s on.
Did you buy the phone new or used? Have you flashed any custom ROM?

Also, if did the superCID, make sure to return it to stock so your Aunt can get OTA updates.

So you can keep S-OFF and root and still get OTAs?
Nope, my phone was branded at first, but I flashed 2.3.4 (

so what CID should I set it to for T-Mobile USA??
Can't seem to find that anywhere.. and where/how do I wipe my SD card?
Here's a list of CID codes this should be of use to you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195475
To format your sd card connect your phone to your pc and right click format on your sd card when connected via storage mode
thanks Nik.. argghh the only thing I'm missing now is the RUU stock ROM. That link that's stickied in the dev forum for the latest T-Mobile USA ROM is dead.. trying to find a mirror now

Probably showing my ignorance but i would like to know if any functionality is lost by changing the bootloader of a rom to the revolutionary bootloader when s-offing the rom?
I would also be grateful if somebody could explain to me what improvements or ill effects a change of bootloader can invoke i.e. what parts of the functionality of the rom do the bootloader effect.
Bootloader doesn't affect the ROM at all. The bootloader is just what boots into a rom.

If you go through the Revolutionary process. You'll get a Hboot with a slightly different version.
You will however, get S-OFF and Su and a Custom Recovery (ClockworkMod, CWM).
The phone will operate normally. You will have the opportunity of backing it up (Nandroid), installing apps that require Root access and install Custom ROMs.
As I think the other poster mentioned, can't see it ATM, the bootloader is Phone based and independent of the ROM.
I originally used a similar process (AlphaRev) on my desire, AlphaRev and Unrevoked produced Revolutionary together.
From personal experience, it has not affected my phone in any adverse manner, as always YMMV. It opened possibilities though.
Then why are there different bootloaders??

Usually 'cos HTC release slightly different versions of them.
The latest one 1.19 seems more locked down for example.
TBH most folks just use Revolutionary to S-OFF etc. then just leave it at that, mine is 1.17.1111 Once it's done it's done. There is a new Radio that seems to require 1.19 but as my phone works well with the current version I have installed, I'm leaving that well alone.
According to their site they can apply S-OFF to the following versions: HTC Sensation (pyramid) 1.17.0006, .0008, .0011 and .0012, 1.18.0000
What are you actually trying to do / want to achieve ?
what u loose is if u are on stock can update using HTC OTA
If u are stock rom u will not be able to make the OTA updates as it will hang since it expect its own hboot, this is the drawback I know. u will have them to reload a stock copy to have the official hboot and recovery again.

Good point.
However Custom ROMs seem to be "nicer" and tend to have updates earlier.
EDIT: As a fellow Vodafone UK user I thought I'd add that: When I had my HTC Desire (was running Eclair initially) and Froyo was being released, Vf UK was one of the slowest companies to release it. As the newer Froyo offered significant improvements I jumped at the chance to go for a Carrier independent ROM that supported Froyo. Thus freeing myself from Vf release schedule and also removing the Vf bloat ware that I never used. I did suffer a set back when I got the Sensation as initially S-OFF wasn't possible. This situation looks like it'll repeat itself with the release of ICS. PM if you want more info.

I am trying to achieve the best possible stock experience but i don't want to lose the ability to root.
The reason i was asking was the fact that it was stated that, the new h-boot was needed for the new radio to work properly on the leaked ics with sense RUU which suggests that the bootloaders have slightly different functionality.

Ahh you're talking about 11.59..... Sorry I think I got off topic :-((
I've seen a few still using 10.58.........10.15... on ICS with success. I have downloaded an ICS ROM and it seems to work on HBoot 1.17.1111 with my radio. Reflashed back to CM7 though, but I now have the option. I'll reflash ICS again and just confirm it works on 3G and WiFi as usual. I didn't check too far when I first tried. Please bear in mind that these ICS ROMs are based on unreleased versions, so really a taster at the moment.
Hi Folks
Just traded my sXL in for a One s (HTC seemed to have abandoned the XL and didnt like the camera). Its Unlocked and open EU still on 403, still charging it. Ive had an OTA warning saying 404 sense 4.1, but it comes with something by EAGames. As much as I cannot stand EA and their bloatware corporate BS, is this ok or should I install one of the ROMs from here. Im not a big custom ROM person and was wanting to stay on Stock.
Any advice on where to start

If you talking about RUU then that is the full update and is handy to have for a backup. Both of them Hboots are good but you can downgrade the Hboot if you up to it.
1. Use HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader
2. fastboot TWRP recovery
3. Backup the stock ROM, whatever it is
4. Wipe system and do a factory reset
5. Flash CM10 or some other proper ROM
6. Reboot into bootloader, fastboot the boot.img
7. Reboot and enjoy a proper phone
Never use the stock ROM. It sucks.

I disagree. I feel "untouch" (out-of-the-box) - no rom flashed, is actually better in term of battery life. Just exchange phone from t-mbole, not root yet, and battery is very impressive. from 6:30-3:30pm, the phone only lose 17%. This is w/an excessive usage (surf, txt, call, emailing, etc).
I flash lot of ROM and seem like none can beat it. The last rom i flash same time above and the reminding battery is only 20% left. Well, other rom. seem a little better maybe 40% left til 5pm.

If you are S-Off, you will lose recovery and root but keep S-Off. If your bootloader is unlocked, you will need to relock it before the RUU will run.

Recovery is not lockable. The bootloader is. Your bootloader isn't unlocked but you are S-Off. If you run a RUU it will wipe your recovery and ROM, but you will keep S-Off.
yea i figured it would wipe my rom i have on my phone now, but as long as it dont lock my phone so i can flash another rom or radio to it later is ok. Kinda wanting to go back to stock since it seams the rom developement is going away for inspire. Inspire 4G can use Desire HD ROMs. Look in those forums for more development.
I have been dont really like many of them. wish I could learn how to cook my own rom, but do not have the time it takes to learn it. well I do i guess just would have to start at the very begining and do not have the linux system. The Desire HD and the Inspire 4G are essentially the same phone. The Desire is the precursor to the DHD. So yes, there is a big difference between the Desire and the Desire HD. Do not flash Desire ROMs on a DHD or an I4G; they are incompatible.

That one won't work. He has a T-Mobile US phone (SKU 531) and is a S-ON user. The RUU you linked is for the SKU 401. You can't change your SKU with S-ON.
@20twins10: Try this RUU. It should set your phone back to stock. You can update it afterwards to the latest version by using the OTA function in "settings>about". If the RUU doesn't work as expected you should turn off your internet connection, your firewall and you antivirus software, boot your phone to fastboot mode and try again.

a word of warning tho: updates messing with the hboot version seem to have a tendency to bork your mmcblk0p20, causing you to end up on edge only(im trying for weeks now,

well it happened to me after doing a simple factory reset, no s-off, not even root, it definetly isnt related to hboot 2.16 or s-offing at all.
therefore i consider the suggestion of backing everything up before doing any changes to the OS pretty important, and totally on-topic.

I don't know what you mean with "getting on the hot list". (Sorry English isn't my mother tongue.)
Actually the unlock process and the flashing of TWRP was completely unnecessary. Before you should start flashing any custom files you need to upgrade to the latest firmware. Many of the android 5 custom roms won't work if your firmware is too old. Just flash the RUU and then install the OTAs. (Since you flashed TWRP you now must use the RUU whereas it's been optional at the point where you started this thread.)
