I have a Nexus 5 with Android version 4.4.2 baseband M8974A-1.0.25.0.23. However for some reason there is no Signal Strength on the phone. I flashed back to 4.4 and still NO Signal Strength.
Anyone have idea of why?

What carrier do you have? Have you tried putting the sim card in another phone?
I have a ATT sim but it can not make any call because Signal Strength is 0dBm
This happened to me once after flashing a zip file. A full wipe fixed it.
just did a full wipe in recovery mode and still 0dBm and 90ASU.

Well your radio is off. Try entering *#*#4636#*#* in the phone app. The Phone Information, then scroll down to where it says LTE/GSM auto (PRL) and the button below should say "Turn off radio". If your's says "Turn on radio", thats the problem.
BTW, use the quote button next time so I get notified when you reply to me.

I can NOT turn on/off my radio. I tried to change to "LTE only" or any other options but it did not change.
Think the phone maybe defected.

Yes IMEI is there. Just seem like I can't turn radio on/off, which prevent me from changing LTE-GSM-CDMA etc...

Doing Airplane mode doesn't help?
Try flashing the factory image. I had a similar problem. I re flashed the factory cache.img and it fixed it for me, but I would re flash everything.
I also have the same problem. I feel that there is something wrong with N5 antenna. It shows 0 dBm at my home. My other phone with the same sim pickups 1-2 bars of signal.
Strange...my N5 is doing the same thing now. No signal at all. Hopefully this isn't some widespread issue.

Hey man I had the exact same problem it just progressively kept getting worse and finally I couldnt get the signal to come back no matter what I did. I took the back panel off and cleaned everything and now my signal is solid as a rock. I reccomend you try it. Check Ifixit to see how to remove the back panel its pretty easy.
Nexus 5 no signal fix
NEXUS 5 NO SIGNAL FIX, I finally fixed my Nexus 5! I downgraded to 4.4.0. At first I had 4g LTE signal and then noticed that I would lose all signal the moment it jumped to GSM and the signal would not come back anymore. So I had to reflash 4.4 again and set the radio to LTE only! To set the radio to LTE only type *#*#4636#*#*. I also flashed different radio bands, now on KRT01B 0.15. (also cancelled all aplication updates in google store, don`t know if has anything to do with it)
same issue!

Hi! Got the same issue, tried every possible solution, but none of them could make the radio work. Could you explain in more detail how you cleaned it up?
Also having a similar issue to this - interested in the method you used to clean it? I fear that its some hardware issue that was somehow triggered by my phone running out of battery completely. Weird thing is everything else appears to work fine.

I've had the G2x since it first came out and have always had issues with the signal dropping abruptly. However, since Thrusday, I have lost all signal to the tower and am unable to get it back. I was running EagleBlood's ICS ROM but have since done a full factory reset back to stock and completed an update via the LG Update Tool (I wasn't successful with updating the baseband any other way). Everything appears to be back to factory settings, but I'm not receiving any cell signal still.
Any ideas?
My baseband currently reads: M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1 [MAR 2012 10:00:00] MP:TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM
When I choose Status under the About Phone menu I get the following details:
Network: Unknown
Signal Strength: -93dBm 10 asu (fluxuating slightly)
Mobile Network: GPRS
Service State: Out of service
I am also unable to enable Wifi calling. Basically the only calls/texts I can make are via Google voice on a wireless network.
I'm on the stock 2.3.4 rom currently.

I'm not sure what I should be checking. Is there a good article/thread on this?
I too upgraded to the new bb, and have been getting random signal drops. IDK if it's Tmo, working on their equipment, or the new base band. I figure I'll give it a week or so, as it hasn't yet interfered with my daily usage (mine drops, then comes back).
My suggestion to you, since your loss seems to be a constant, is to try using kwes 2.3.4. I had some other minor issues w/the LG release, that I don't seem to have with kwes. It's a bit more stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602798
Could just be that you had a bad install. It happens. Give kwes ROM a shot. Maybe that'll take care of it. Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll go ahead and give that a shot, but I think in actuality something internally might be messed up.
Have you tried a diffrent sim card?

I have the some freaking problem, I made the thread above and I've tried a number of fixes and no dice.. Tonight I'm going to try to get a new sim. I've tried a complete reset, Rooting and removing all bloatware, and flashing a custom rom. No dice. Sometimes I drop from 4g to 2g, sometimes I drop all signal. Wifi never drops but I lose all connectivity to mobile data and signal.

Did any of you ever fix this issue? The same exact thing just started happening to me. I had to start using a back up phone to make calls. The only thing that works in wifi and I've verified the APN settings. I even took the sim card and put it another phone, which worked fine. Let me know if you find anything.

If you want to eliminate the phone as being the issue, has anyone suggested you roll-back to the previous Baseband and try using one of the CM7 ROM's that are out there?
Logic being, if the rollback gives you the same issues you previously had, then it's not a function of the baseband causing the issue.
So I have the G2x with simple mobile and just installed the latest eaglesblood and obviously I cant make any calls and texting works with wifi so is this fixed or should i go back to 2.3.4

Why would cellphone towers cause my device to require re-boot ?
It was a joke.
Weak cellular signal is a pretty common issue with the Nexus S though.
Maybe it's your radio/kernel/rom combination! Once I was using NexusBeam 4.1/Matr1x/I9020AUKE1. I'd lose signal for no reason after a while, and only a reboot would bring it back. I then flashed the latest radio, and everything was working!

Guess I could play with different radio and see what happens. Or wait for Milestone 6 and see how it behaves after that.
I just got my Nexus 5 and I haven't root it yet. I notice that everytime I don't use my phone 5-10 minutes or hours, the signal will be lost and asking to reboot my phone. I can't tell when it's up or not. Sometime I take multiple reboot to get signal back up then it happens again and again. Is there a way to fix this problem without rooting? I don't think it's the Sim Card because I used it on my nexus 4 without any problem. or Just my device isn't good one. Please help!

I didn't root my phone yet, and I'm running 4.4.2 now. It's annoying to keep losing signal and it's back again. Even I have signal, I only have 1 bar compare to my old Nexus 4 has 3 bar or HTC one full bar.
I don't want to root it if its not solve this problem, I will have to return it.
There was an issue on 4.4 where it would randomly give you the "emergency only" message. You would have to turn on airplane mode and then turn it off, or reboot. But people have been saying it was fixed with 4.4.1/4.4.2.

I think it might be overall worse, but luckily I actually didn't see any decrease in signal in my area. I was really worried about it because I already have really bad signal in my house but 4.4.2 doesn't seem to be worse for me.

I'm sorry, but you're dead wrong. SO much misinformation here. First off, there is no "carrier" or "generic" baseband. There is only one baseband. Second, antenna design requires a lot of engineering to maximize signal efficiency when you're dealing with interference from such things as wifi, nfc, Bluetooth, metal construction in the phone, etc.. I'm not sure what magical material you think that cell antennas should be made of that will solve issues?
I just got off of the phone with Sprint. They show that there is an internal memo on the issue and LG is aware of it. They will be pushing an update as soon as it's ready. Sprint will also be pushing an update for the Airave to help with the issue. The support rep told me that it is an issue where the wifi and LTE radios aren't playing nicely together and causing a conflict. That's why everything seems to work fine when 3G is set as a preferred network.
It's an issue that still hasn't gotten fix as seen here.

The issue seem to be gone after couple days. I checked signal strength app, it shows same even though it shows only 1 bar.
My S3 died last week so I purchased a Nexus 5 and I've had nothing but issues with it since.
In 6 days it has dropped network about 10 times and just displays 'Emergency calls only' until I reboot it. It seems to be completely random.
Twice it has done it whilst streaming over 4g from YouTube, but it has also just done it whilst dormant overnight. I woke up the other day to find 'Emergency Calls Only' despite it being fine when I went to sleep.
After searching google I can now see that this seems to be a common issue with Nexus 5.
I'm seriously considering taking it back and getting something else, although I'd love to keep it if it works properly. Does anyone know the cause of the issue or have any workarounds? As I use the phone for out of hours calls for work, I can't afford to have it drop network whilst in my pocket and me not know about it...

OK so I tried re-inserting the sim but still dropping network. The weird thing is that it has done 3 times in the exact same location on my way to work whilst I've been streaming. It's as if it loses 4g signal in that location but then fails to switch to 3g and instead I get left with no network connection / no bars (empty triangle). It then fails to pick up the network again until I reboot (tried re-registering on network and airplane mode on/off).

I never had it with my S3 in 2 years, using the same route into work every day. I can't remember my S3 ever dropping network once....or if it did it picked up the network again automatically. Only difference was I wasn't on LTE with that.
It's not just that location though, it's happened 8 other times in other place nowhere near. I only made note of the same location because it's where I get off the tram coming into work. This morning I wasn't streaming or anything, it was just in my pocket, but I'd installed light flow to audibly alert me when it lost connection.

OK so I've been and swapped my N5 for a new one...they also gave me a new sim. Fingers crossed !!
I guess I am too late to add anything but anyway here is what I did and may be of help. After pulling out the sim, use a pencil eraser and rub it across the contacts on the sim card. If the contacts somehow get too much oil residue from finger tips or other "impurities" on the contact, you will get incomplete contacting sometimes and it works other times. The eraser will clean those contacts up for a better dirt free connection. When I was a electronics tech in the hi tech field, I fixed many issues that were just contact problems and the eraser did the trick. I have had this same problem on my other phones (blackberries and androids) and it seemed to work.

Hello All,
After coming back from holiday vacation overseas, I noticed my phone wasn't behaving as expected. At the time I was running GPe and yesterday switched back to Scott's CleanROM. In doing so, I noticed that I did not have data. So, I RUU'd to Stock Verizon and it still didn't fix the issue. It's interesting to note that Calls, texts, WiFi all work.
Any advice?
Do a factory reset with stock recovery. installed. That should restore the radios
Nope, tried that earlier. Tried another full RUU and same story. Can make phone calls and text.
Now, back on work iPhone. Man this thing is small. Any other suggestions?

I'm having the same issue. On the Digital High 5.0.1 ROM I have full working 4g/3g WiFi, e.g. Flashing back to a sense ROM the phone sites that its connected to 4g, and I can make calls, texts, but it says that mobile data is disconnected. Nothing I've tried has had an effect.
Flashed the stock RUU a couple times, done resets through the boot loader, recovery, and settings. Flashed the latest firmware a couple times just to be sure. Any help here would be great!

This is exactly my issue. It's quite strange because in the past the RUU wipes everything and restores to factory settings. This time, something strange happens. I tried again last night and a new error message occurred when launching the ROM for the first time. I received an error stating "sim card from unknown source". I swear it has something to do with my travels. Went back to Digital High 5.0.1 and everything works flawlessly.
Bump for some help!

One other thing to note, when the phone powers on, when I look under "Network Settings" and the "Preferred Network" it says "Global Mode". Is this correct for Verizon? Not LTA, or CDMA or LET/Legacy 3GPP?
Also, under "Network Preference" I have a list of ~15 Networks to select that are all international carriers. Orange, Vodafone, Movistar etc. Is this happening for anyone else?

That's normal. Also check cdma options. Under apns make sure Verizon has the green dot marked.
If it's not and you can't select it, hit the menu button and select reset to default and reboot.
Going to try and RUU to 4.4.3 and then let the OTA come through and see if that works. Hopefully I'll be able to root later.

Checked this and selected the Verizon APN. No change.
Also, reverted to 4.4.3 then took the OTA to 4.4.4 and no dice. I'm baffled.
I got mine to work finally , flashed the RUU did a reset and then selected the VZWInternet APN under the cdma options in the mobile data section and then rebooted.
Half afraid to flash a new Rom now!
So I have a new problem, maybe some one can help with. My phone will sometimes connect to 4g. Moat of the time I have to go into settings, mobile data and switch it a couple times from CDMA preferred to global before 4g works. Sometimes this works and other times it doesn't. Any help to fix this issue?
