[Q] Still usable after broken lcd? - General Questions and Answers

So I have a tablet with a broken lcd but it has an SD card port and a hdmi port something not many Android devices have, anyway to still use it, whether it be hdmi cable, remote control software, adb or something similar...?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Should be possible, if it has a USB port you could use a mouse with it, or as you say use some remote control software.
Might be difficult to set up if the touch screen part is dead as well though.

[Q] TV-out on Galaxy S Blaze

Is there a trick to get video output from the blaze? hdmi or vga or anything at all? I'm surprised because it works on the galaxy S and I though they were almost identical phones except for the processor.

Actually, the Tmobile GS2 has the exact same processor (the 'normal' gs2 soc doesn't support hspa+42 and tmobile wanted the higher network speed over higher clock). From what I understand, there is no way to get video out of the blaze.
If you are trying to play it on pc there are a few software apps that can stream like VLC and such. TV... pretty screwed. I hear even the mhl adapters arent working for our phones either. Sorry
With Android 4.2 is a feature called Miracast or something close to that, pretty much just lets you stream to WiFi TVs.
True we are screwed. I was under the impression there was no MHL support on the blaze, and thus, it will never work.

Has anyone tried plugging flash drive into the phone with a mircousb to USB female?
I wanna get a converter but if HDMI doesn't work, I doubt that connecting external storage would work...

I haven't tried it (but can tomorrow), but I don't see why external storage wouldn't work. What you'd want is a USB on the go adapter to basically act as a host-mode interface for the phone to the storage.
I bought one of these adapters for less than $1 a piece, shipped. Well, I guess actually I bought 3 (they were really cheap) because I wanted to play with all sorts of things, including controlling my DSLR with one of those DSLR apps
Using this method and a USB hub, there's no reason that you shouldn't be able to successfully add all sorts of stuff like extra storage, mouse, keyboard, etc.
Mind you the host OS (read: ROM) has to support it. CM should support most of that out of the box. I don't know about stock based roms.
Yea I was gonna get it for my camera and other things but wasn't sure if it was capable of doing it.
I remember how on my Samsung Vibrant, the TV-Out feature worked by plugging a RCA cable to the headphone jack...It doesn't work on the blaze though. Just FYI

Sure are a lpt pf TV-out and OTG files in ALL the roms........
USB OTG should work fine. That is built ib and works for me with a powered hub.
I tried compiling MHL support into the kernel, which works, but nothing on the TV. I think there are parts missing in the ROM for it to work.

usb OTG ??? do i have to throw my nexus s

hi every body
i will be very thankful if anybody can help me
today i get a usb OTG cable and i was very excited to try on my nexus s but i was very disappointed that even if i have a custom kernel that supports usb OTG i have to support externel power supply along with the cable which make all the process of > on the go < .. absolute not on the go ..
later when searching i found a video for nexus 4 i guess having usb with really on the go mode i.e. without 20 meters of cable extended along the room to the wall..
is there a way to make this work on the nexus s .?

Ps3 dual shock contoller question.

This may sound stupid, but i bought the controller not knowing you need to buy the charger seperate. Anyone who has used this controller for your tablet, do i need to buy an adapter to hook up the controller with a usb initially?? Thats what the instructions say, just wanna be clear.

Just buy a USB to Mini-B cable and you can connect/charge it with your pc. Make sure your pc installs the correct usb driver for it because it needs to communicate before getting the correct current/voltage.
You would need the cable anyway to reprogram with SixaxisPairTool.

For charging on pc, all 4 leds will flash while charging. They will switch off when done.
I presume you'd want to use it wirelessly using bluetooth. For bluetooth connection take a look at Sixaxis
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
Install procedure including how to pair etc.

You need to be rooted. If not rooted you can use a wired controller.

Ok so i changed the blue tooth address on the controller to the address on my tablet with the tool kit. I am already rooted. When i plug the controller to the pc it shows the same address. I have the sixaxis app from the play store. I have ime bypassed. I hit start within the app. Then i hit the power/ps button on the controller and nothing happens. The controller doesnt blink any lights or anything. When i just plug the controller to my pc it blinks all 4 lights for a little bit then stops (assuming its charged) not sure what im doing wrong or if my controller just isnt working. Just got the controller in the mail today. I admit tho, when i first got it i was stupid and excited and plugged it into the wall. If anyone thinks thats what killed it ill return it and get a new one. I just wanna make sure its not something im missing. Thanks in advance.

The first thing is try with Dead Trigger. It has native support. Go to options etc. The mapping is very small and hard to see.
Go to Preferences->Gamepad Settings->Enable Gamepad. Make sure it's ticked.
Go to Keyboard Emulation->Bypass IME->untick.
Report back your results.
p.s. this might be silly but don't substitute letter o with zero for address.

Ok, so i checked the address and if i put an o in place of a 0 (zero) then its invalid and wont let me update the address. Anyway, i downloaded dead trigger and weng i to preferences in sixaxis controller and checked enable Gamepad and unchecked bypass ime. Tried learning in my controller and still no lights or anything when i hit the power button.

I think you've done everything correctly. The only other option is to try with another controller to make certain or return the one you have. Sorry mate.

Ok, i ordered and recived a new controller. And its still not working. Ive come to the conclusion that it is user error. I think its the SixaxisPairTool im using. It allows me to change the bluetooth address bu when i un install it, it has an error Saying this is not supported on this platform. Ive tried downloading the 32bit version for windows xp a bunch and it keeps showing this 64 verio is not compatible with your platform.... At this point i would be great full if someone could just shoot me a link for the correct download for my platform and/or walk me through this. I feel and sound like a little kid who needs their hand held but I really want this to work!! Please anyone!

Depends... You can if you had an app like AirDroid installed before the screen cracked. You could also install and run it now:

HDMI out with usb

Is it possible to use the hdmi out and connect a usb peripheral? I have a bunch of lapdocks laying around and it would be cool to be able to use them with this phone with a couple adapters.
Lack of replies make me think this isnt possible.
Yes. With the right mhl adaptor it is entirely possible.
As far as controlling them with the lapdocks.... No. We dont have the software needed. You should still be able to display to them though.

I think the mouse and keyboard on the lapdock is just usb. So as long as i can get it all wired right I think it should work. Any idea what the right MHL adapter is?
I wouldn't risk it tbh. You would have to splice and dice. If i remember correctly, the laptops are made for a dual connection, ie. HDMI and USB at the same time. I'm not sure that this phone is capable of that, seeing as the USB and mhl have to go into the same place.
I think I remember seeing someone trying this before and it failed.
Just about and HDMI adapter on amazon should work. The one I got years ago cost me maybe $8 with shipping.

Why is that relevant? This thread is in a Verizon HTC One M8 forum . . . And the M8 uses MHL.

sorry thought this was on the g2 q&a my bad
Using a Samsung micro USB - HDMI worked fine for me using the GPE rom. I was able to have my screen display on my TV with no issues. I was hoping to use this to stream FIOS Mobile to a Hotel TV. Unfortunately, when FIOS Mobile sees an HDMI connection, it won't stream
You do need to power this connection. If not, you'll get nothing. This is the cable I used...
So maybe my original post wasnt clear? I know we can get hdmi out of the usb port. What i wanted to know is if there is an adapter that allows you do hdmi out AND connect a usb mouse or keyboard at the same time. On the samsung s4 or s5 or one of them, there was a media dock that allowed this. Not sure if the hardware is here on the m8 to do something similar.
EDIT: This thing: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-S20JWEGSTA
I think samsung uses a proprietary 11pin mhl to do what im talking about. Pretty sure the m8 just has the normal mhl, 5 pin or whatever so this isnt possible. If anyone knows different let me know. I sure wish this phone had a dedicated micro hdmi port.
