hi every body
i will be very thankful if anybody can help me
today i get a usb OTG cable and i was very excited to try on my nexus s but i was very disappointed that even if i have a custom kernel that supports usb OTG i have to support externel power supply along with the cable which make all the process of > on the go < .. absolute not on the go ..
later when searching i found a video for nexus 4 i guess having usb with really on the go mode i.e. without 20 meters of cable extended along the room to the wall..
is there a way to make this work on the nexus s .?

Hello team
Just been searching through and ive seen a few good hand of people discussing the adapter working well for the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket by AT&T . Was really hoping some people could point me to an excellent cable that works. I saw so many online, i just wasnt sure which one would work correctly , or most importantly work well
Would like links for MHL and a OTG cable if possible. Thanks in advanced for help
Phone currently running SKY ICS
A little bit of searching and i found these. Any thoughts/

The jig says in the description that it doesn't work on our phone, is that true.

no its not. It DOES work, i tested mine 4 times in a row. Turn off Device entirely. Then plug up the JIG , and BAM, turns on , on its own into Download mode
Heres a video of it working which i just recorded now @ work for you to see

Its designed to work for any of the GALAXY based phones by Samsung. Thats what i was told at least. And it worked great with mine if you saw the above video i posted :silly:
I appreciate you posting this. Was just researching on the OTG as well. Ordering mine from Amazon now. Already had the mhl for 6 months. Was worried that the otg cable would not power a thumb drive. Now I know. Thanks!
Yup sure does, i tried both FAT32 and NTFS Flash drives... Next up is external HDD
Now i need a transformer or a Tab 2
For a USB powered external hdd you need a powered USB hub. If you plug in the hdd directly into the otg cable it does not work.
If your hdd has its own power supply then it works directly.
The phone battery is not enough to power the hdd.

Is it USB-to-AV cables? Or do you have a usb port on your TV? I believe that is only for photos. i tried the same method as well (even for music). also, it depends if the TV supports it? my samsung doesnt support my HOX as well. There is a usb-to-hdmi adapter for like $10 used on amazon, i would suggest using that for now..heard it works wonders, and it has native support on the HOX http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MHL-HDMI-Adapter-Packaging/dp/B005LGUDKK
got the info from cnet: http://asia.cnet.com/ask/how-do-i-mirror-my-htc-one-xs-display-on-my-tv-62218643.htm

I have a feeling it has to do with how jb sense makes USB drive available. Its not just the standard USB mass storage. You'd prolly be able to read is with ICS sense or aosp where it reads as USB mass storage

Connect HTC ONE to TV
Can anyone confirm that the Nexus 5 will support (out-of-the-box) digital audio out using a USB OTG cable? I'd like to connect the N5 to a DAC. I've seen it mentioned that KitKat will support this, but haven't actually heard first-hand accounts that it works, specifically with the N5.
Thanks!

I guess I'm the only one interested in connecting my phone to an external DAC. I ordered the N5 anyway and will test it out as soon as I receive it. I'll post back my results as soon as that happens.

I just saw this thread and I care deeply about this. First thing I did when I turned on my Nexus 5 today (after installing the required update, of course) was try my USB DACs, the hifimediy sabre and Fiio E07k.
Neither worked. When you plug them in, and have your headphones connected to the DAC, you hear a click. But then you go to play music, and the music comes out of the phone's speakers. I even tried putting the phone into debugging mode. No dice.
Did not try the USB Audio Recorder Pro App because I have no desire to use that clunky app, I simply want to easily use my USB DAC via OTG with my new Nexus 5 and after that leak a month ago from the Android 4.4 dump, my hopes got up. They have been dashed now.
hey guys,
Just plugged my E17 in and no go in google music. I'm assuming this means no 24 bit support in kit kat.
Thanks everyone. Unfortunate news. No USB audio and no aptX -- the N5 is not an audio lovers device!

Hi, if it's not to much of a hassle, can you try the e17 with usb recorder pro trial? i have an e17 and a nexus 5 but no otg cable. The suspense is killing me :crying:
To further confirm -- received my N5 yesterday. Hooked it up to my Audio-GD Compass DAC via USB OTG cable, and no dice. Phone detects nothing, and the music continues to play out of the horribly tiny built-in speaker. There's got to be some way to get a decent digital (or even line out?) signal from this phone??

My n5 works fine with my fiio e7 only with USB audio recorder.
I will ask to kernel devs if it is possible add usb audio support into mod kernels.
Bye.
Stefano.
Just wanted to bump this thread as I'm also very interested in getting my Nexus 5 to work with a USB DAC without the ridiculously designed UARP app.
I would also be interested in following what happens both with kernel support etc.
also interested in support for USB audio

While USB OTG may be enabled by default (for mass storage use, etc.), there is no audio signal being output from the N5 when using a USB OTG cable. I'm using an externally powered DAC, fwiw.

I don't know if it works or not but USB audio output was merged with CM11.0 last by Cyanogen himself (Steve kondik).

So maybe it is a software thing.
Hey guys, im planning on buying an usb stick and of course i will use it on my nexus 5 too. I am thinking of this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AXWOLO6/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
But i don't know if 64 gb is supported by Usb OTG, has someone tried or can try and come back to me?
Edit: It worked, if anyone is wondering.

Ok. Its just that unlike Samsung galaxy s3 (onwards) the nexus 5 cannot power mechanical drives through its USB host port. I expect you'd need a powered USB hub to power and use a mechanical drive.

Would a third party Rom like cyanogen make the drive work? Or is it a hardware issue?

Hardware as far as I know. The S3 was the first that could do this without external power. Not all devices follow suit. Mechanical parts require a lot of power compared to flash

So any size usb stick or a external drive with its own power source. I'm using a 128gb stick.

Its built-in all ready. After rooting all you need is an app like stickmount. Or if you change rom most of them have the software you need allready in there.

Is your drive in NTSF format? Android only recognizes FAT32. Try a drive formatted as FAT32 and see what happens.
I am using my 1TB WD harddrive(ntfs).
It works fine with StickMount. I never needed external power source.
But it eats the battery extremely fast at almost 1%-2% per minute.
But the USB-Y cable should work fine for powering usb hard drive.

I guys, today I tried to Wireless Charge while using the USB-OTG to copy some files (practically, it makes sense for me, since there is no need to connect the cable to the Nexus, we could be using that port to USB-OTG and charge at the same time).
I was surprised when it didn't work. I can't understand why would they implement this. Since it's not charging from cable, it could be charging by wireless...
It's not a defect from mine, right?
Anyway, thanks for your attention.

It's not a defect. You need a custom kernel that supports Qi Charging while using USB OTG if you want that.
Are you sure it's a kernel limitation? Do you know any that supports it?

May not be a hardware limitation. But probably a very low priority for implementation
One way I've try to offset this limitation is to plug my OTG cable into a powered USB hub. All attached USB devices use the hub for power greatly reducing the battery drain on the phone/tablet.
