Daydream only while wirelessly charging - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have got the LG/Nexus 4 Charging Orb and it works perfectly with my Nexus 5.
But there is one thing I'd love to have:
Is it possible to enable Daydream only when wirelessly charging?
I do not need Deaydream when I charge the phone over USB but when it's sitting on the charger on my desk it would be nice to have.
In the daydream settings i can choose between "dock", "charging" and "either" - Is there any way to add another option "wireless charging"?
I am using CM 11.
Thanks.

Notifications/Charging Questions

Hi all,
Just got my Infinity+dock, and I have a few questions:
(1) With the dock connected, there is a persistent notification of "Docking connected". It's quite obvious to me that the dock is connected: I can see it, I can see that the dock battery is charging, I have a mouse pointer, etc., so I don't really need this notification. However, I can't figure out how to turn it off.
(2) Similar to #1, with my MicroSD card connected, there is a persistent notification of "External storage inserted". Again, I know it's inserted, I put it in there. Is there any way to turn this notification off as well?
(3) I am having an issue charging the tablet and/or the dock via the included USB cord. If I plug the cord into a different wall unit or into my computer, the USB won't charge. (However, I know that it works because I've successfully connected the tablet to the computer.) The only time I can successfully charge anything is if I use the included wall unit. I would appreciate some help, as I can't see why a different wall unit or my computer won't charge the tablet/dock.
Thanks in advance!

(1) and (2)
- go into settings menu and click on ASUS customized menu
- Scroll down and to Use ASUS Quick Setting and uncheck the box
- Now click in the bottom right of the screen to bring up the quick menu
- With the quick menu up, click anywhere in the top portion of the menu (where you see the time/day/date/wifi/battery) and this will expand the menu vertically
- Toggle notifications to OFF
* keep inn mind this will also turn off notifications for emails/sms....
(3)
I only use the included wall charger so i cant comment on other wall unit charger. As far as charging via USB, no issues here using the included USB cable. Any chance you can trying another USB cable or trying a different USB port on the computer?

hhhhmmm...just notice the following
The tablet does not charge via USB to computer, it only connects to allow transfer of files between tablet and computer. The tablet only charges if:
1. USB cable is plugged into wall charger unit and connect tablet or tablet with keyboard dock
2. If tablet is docked the keyboard and plugged into computer via USB.....however, only the tablet charges.

Your comment about (1)(2) is not true. This will not get rid of the persistent notification at all. The only way I am aware to get rid of them is with some custom roms. I can not comment on the third part though. I do not have knowledge in that area.

Actually, it *does* get rid of the notifications for the dock and SD card. Problem is (as the OP states) that it stops *ALL* notifications, which makes it a not-so-desirable "solution" to the problem...
Trust me - I just tried it and the keyboard and SD icons disappear completely...

The notifications:
I would have never in a million years found that setting. However, turning off the notifications didn't turn off the "docking connected" and "external storage inserted" notifications. I tried restarting but still no dice.
Charging:
I only have the USB cable that comes included with the tablet. I tried different USB ports, but I can try other computers. However, I had a thought: the best computer I have only has USB 2.0; maybe USB 3.0 is required to charge the tablet?
It still doesn't explain why it won't charge if I plug the cord into a different wall unit: for instance, an Apple wall unit or a 4-USB wall unit that I have.

I wonder why it worked for you but not for me. Regardless, it's not that big of a bother that I'd want to do something so drastic as getting rid of ALL notifications...

Tablet requires 15V(correct me if I'm wrong) which is supplied by Asus accessory wall plug.
Computer's USB ports does not supply enough voltages to charge the tablet, however I haven't tried USB 3.0 port to charge the tablet it might work but I highly doubt it will.

USB Tethering?

I have this wireless charger thing and it is supposed to charge it fully. But I can't! I can actually plug it in, use the phone while its charging and LOSE battery... So I think I need USB tethering to make it charge. Because it did work before but it stopped since I changed my ROM.
I have stock now, with root, and GravityBox. I looked for the USB tethering option and wanted it to appear in the quick settings box in the notification bar, and it doesn't show for some reason...
So can I do something about it?
Thanks!
can anyone help?

Why don't you plug the phone into the charger provided through an outlet?
And as far as I know of, USB tethering is supposed to allow you to access your files on the computer, not enable wireless charging -_-
to bei60
your problem is kind of confusing. what you want to do?
usb tethering? yes/no
charging through usb port? yes/no
fyi
when you are usb tethering, you can not browse your files in nexus 5.
usb tethering only shows up on the notification bar when in use.
while usb tethering, the phone slowly recharges.

[Q] Wireless charge - how to trigger desk dock mode?

EDITED VERSION:
Let's simplify this since 85 views and not one response.
I'm new to the S5 from a modified S3, and looking for an answer on EITHER of the below questions:
How to trigger Desk Dock mode artificially (since I am using a Qi wireless charger rather than an actual desk dock, with this phone)?
A good desk dock app to use (possibly will have the above answer built into it)? Or Native Desk Dock mode? How to access it?
ORIGINAL VERSION:
I'm not new here, in fact... in serious need of cleaning up my subscribed forums here at XDA...
But I'm a little slow to get onto an S5 - I waited 6 months longer than I needed to, simply to sync up the other 4 user's on my Sprint account renewal dates. (What a pain.) Anyway - I've now got a new S5, currently unrooted. I'm not opposed to that if or when needed.
Previously, with my S3, I had modded the battery door to work with the Palm Pre wireless charge system. For the S5, I was able to buy the official Samsung wireless charge door (which I opted for mainly to maintain water resistance).
My question is this:
With my S3, I had a desk dock on my desk at work (actually a modified dock from my old S2 - worked great). When I slid it in, it activated dock mode. That was not a wireless charge dock, it had a USB connector at the bottom.
This time though (since that dock no longer fits), for my desk at work, I purchased a Qi wireless dock pod that angles the phone at about a 45 degree angle when placed on it - literally looks like a clone of the old Nexus wireless charge orb. Pretty cool, and looks good when the phone isn't on it.
The only issue is - no desk dock mode.
Note that when you place the phone on the pod, it DOES recognize that it's charging wirelessly, and pops up a message. This is significant from a developer standpoint in that the phone can/does recognize wireless charging that as a different event than charging via cable. Have any developers used this fact to create an app that launches "desk dock" mode when the phone is charging wirelessly?
Alternatively (since I don't even know yet what the native desk dock looks like anyway) I'd be open to a totally separate desk dock app that had a listener for the "now charging wirelessly" to activate desk dock mode built in. And as mentioned before, I'm open to solutions that require rooting - but I'm not initially looking to flash a new ROM at this point if I can avoid it for now.
I've done some searching in Google Play, but not found any matches.
(for that matter, did searching just for "desk dock" here - without any matches!)
Anyone know of any, or have any ideas, to make my wireless desk charger a little more useful than just "charging" - launch/add "desk dock mode", like I had with my S3 and S2?
Thanks!
Bump...
Note I tried installing Llama, thinking I could set a location-based rule like "when at work and wirelessly charging, launch [insert dock app here]", but two challenges to this:
I work too close to home, and am tied to the same cell tower as home - Llama can't distinguish home from work.
I didn't really find a good dock app, and can't find a way to launch desk dock mode from Llama.
Looking for recommendations on:
a desk dock app, and/or
a way to launch the desk dock app when wirelessly charging (on my work desk only, preferably), since I'm not using a desk "dock" at work any longer.
Please advise! Thanks.

Control S3 with broken screen

I have my wife's old S3. The screen is broken and the touch sensitivity doesn't work.
It is unlocked and I can connect it to my PC monitor with an MHL cable and see the screen. This requires a charging cable to be plugged in for it to work (not the case with the S4 and S5)
I have a USB keyboard and mouse which will control it using a USB OTG cable. If this is plugged in via the MHL cable on an S5 it doesn’t control the phone, so I guess the S3 will be the same even if I could get the screen to display after removing the charging cable.
I have a Chromecast so I could screen cast but would need a way to set this up on the phone first. Then I could just use the USB mouse and keyboard.
I want to install tasker, wake on lan and connect the phone to a wireless network. I will then use the phone to remotely wake a PC by sending it a text message (can’t set ARP entry in router). I already have this set up on an S4 at home. I have an S5 spare but don’t want to waste it for this purpose so would like to find a way to configure the S3.
Does anyone know how I can somehow access the S3 screen and also control the phone at the same time? I have seen a post referencing needing USB debugging but with very little other info.
Or, just in case, does anyone possibly know a way to run wol when the router doesn’t support it e.g. use a raspberry pi etc. so I can just forget the phone method?

Pixel 3 XL - USB Connections for File Transfer/Android Auto

Got my Pixel 3 XL yesterday and absolutely love it...
Just in case anyone else experiences issues I thought I would post this - did an online chat with Google and they think it might be a bug in the OS.
Connecting to my PC or Car, the device was showing the USB options when you swipe down for notifications permanently on Charging Only. Even changing this from that drop down had no effect. I could see the device on my PC but unable to view files/folders and unable to copy anything to the device. Similar symptoms in my car, the device would charge fine but no matter what I did it wouldn't connect to my Infotainment System.
To fix this I had to enable Developer Options, scroll down to Networking and there is a "Default USB configuration" setting. This was set to "No data transfer", I changed it to "File transfer" and rebooted and now everything works fine.
Hopefully this might help others :good:
Does your phone fast charge while using Android Auto?
I don't think so, how can I check that.
I've only had the device a couple of days now but have noticed that when I'm using it in the car running Google Maps and streaming music via AA it still seems to charge.
Doing the same on my original Pixel XL I would loose 1-2% over about 30-40 mins, not sure if that's just because the battery was starting to deteriorate.
Thanks, but for some reason that didn't work for me. Tried this with and without USB debugging and car is just not seeing the phone for AA, but charges it fine. Also tried 4 different cables just in case, if I plug in an S8+ to any one of those cables it works perfectly with the car.
