Notifications/Charging Questions - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all,
Just got my Infinity+dock, and I have a few questions:
(1) With the dock connected, there is a persistent notification of "Docking connected". It's quite obvious to me that the dock is connected: I can see it, I can see that the dock battery is charging, I have a mouse pointer, etc., so I don't really need this notification. However, I can't figure out how to turn it off.
(2) Similar to #1, with my MicroSD card connected, there is a persistent notification of "External storage inserted". Again, I know it's inserted, I put it in there. Is there any way to turn this notification off as well?
(3) I am having an issue charging the tablet and/or the dock via the included USB cord. If I plug the cord into a different wall unit or into my computer, the USB won't charge. (However, I know that it works because I've successfully connected the tablet to the computer.) The only time I can successfully charge anything is if I use the included wall unit. I would appreciate some help, as I can't see why a different wall unit or my computer won't charge the tablet/dock.
Thanks in advance!

(1) and (2)
- go into settings menu and click on ASUS customized menu
- Scroll down and to Use ASUS Quick Setting and uncheck the box
- Now click in the bottom right of the screen to bring up the quick menu
- With the quick menu up, click anywhere in the top portion of the menu (where you see the time/day/date/wifi/battery) and this will expand the menu vertically
- Toggle notifications to OFF
* keep inn mind this will also turn off notifications for emails/sms....
(3)
I only use the included wall charger so i cant comment on other wall unit charger. As far as charging via USB, no issues here using the included USB cable. Any chance you can trying another USB cable or trying a different USB port on the computer?

hhhhmmm...just notice the following
The tablet does not charge via USB to computer, it only connects to allow transfer of files between tablet and computer. The tablet only charges if:
1. USB cable is plugged into wall charger unit and connect tablet or tablet with keyboard dock
2. If tablet is docked the keyboard and plugged into computer via USB.....however, only the tablet charges.

Your comment about (1)(2) is not true. This will not get rid of the persistent notification at all. The only way I am aware to get rid of them is with some custom roms. I can not comment on the third part though. I do not have knowledge in that area.

Actually, it *does* get rid of the notifications for the dock and SD card. Problem is (as the OP states) that it stops *ALL* notifications, which makes it a not-so-desirable "solution" to the problem...
Trust me - I just tried it and the keyboard and SD icons disappear completely...

The notifications:
I would have never in a million years found that setting. However, turning off the notifications didn't turn off the "docking connected" and "external storage inserted" notifications. I tried restarting but still no dice.
Charging:
I only have the USB cable that comes included with the tablet. I tried different USB ports, but I can try other computers. However, I had a thought: the best computer I have only has USB 2.0; maybe USB 3.0 is required to charge the tablet?
It still doesn't explain why it won't charge if I plug the cord into a different wall unit: for instance, an Apple wall unit or a 4-USB wall unit that I have.

I wonder why it worked for you but not for me. Regardless, it's not that big of a bother that I'd want to do something so drastic as getting rid of ALL notifications...

Tablet requires 15V(correct me if I'm wrong) which is supplied by Asus accessory wall plug.
Computer's USB ports does not supply enough voltages to charge the tablet, however I haven't tried USB 3.0 port to charge the tablet it might work but I highly doubt it will.

[Q] Wifi Sleep Policy [+ USB Adapter]

Hi all, i've got two newbie questions.
First: if I set WSPolicy to "When screen turn off" it means that my TF will disconnect when I close the screen, whatever is it doing in that moment?
I mean, if i'm downloading a file, will the download be interrupted OR the wifi sleep policy works only when there isn't data trasmission going?
Second: I've got my TF101 without the dock. If i buy a female-female USB adaptor and use it with the USB cable that I usually use to connect the TF to my laptop, could I use USB host? Like read an USB pen, or playing with a joypad?
Thank you all in advance.

for your 2nd Q, the tf uses a USB 3 cable, and AFAIK there isnt female to female USB 3. they are selling a USB adapter that plugs into the charging socket. http://liliputing.com/2011/08/asus-eee-pad-transformer-usb-adapter-other-accessories-coming-soon.html .
for you first one my tf has continued downloading even when screen is off. i've set to never when plugged in, but i've notice that when there is no activity it turns off the wifi, cause when i turn on my screen it take a sec or 2 for the wifi to turn blue.

HDMI and USB at same time

Hi,
Saturday I had some time to open the HDMI dock (for Galaxy Tab 7) and mod it to have alternative power input.
After that I was able to use the HDMI output and USB host at same time. The setup is:
- HDMI out for Samsung TV
- wireless USB keyboard
- external HDD connected with a powered HUB
In this setup I was able to use the keyboard and video files from external HDD while watching on TV screen.
The only problem is that the "MTP Application" notification is still there and the tablet is not full powered from external power supply, it discharges slowly the battery.
After some investigation I've seen that on the original charger there seems to be some resistors between USB lines and Vusb and GND. If I connect the original charger (not inserted on power outlet) the tablet is full powered and the MTP Application is not displayed (when I put the tablet in dock). After that if I remove the cable and insert the USB host cable everything is OK and tablet is full powered with USB host and HDMI working.
The docking is powered with 5V/2A PDA DC adapter.
When I'll open the dock again I will make some picture.
Your are welcome for questions and suggestions.

HOW MUCH?
Cant believe this is my first post on any message board EVER but what better reason! First i would like to know how much would u charge to make the modification for me? I would provide the dock and any other materials that u need of course. Secondly, since the dock works with ALL tab variants(PERSONALLY ONLY TESTED WITH P1000, P7100, P6200, P6210 BUT 99% CERTAIN), u might want to post your development in every other versions forum. I believe this would generate a LOT more interest in this project because there actually has already been a few threads created in which several attempts were made but no one could find the magic combo(plus it could mean a few extra bucks in your billfold!). I waited to post in hopes that u would update with pictures and/or a tutorial but still would rather you perform the actual surgery. Congratulations on accomplishing what samsung should have done from the start...a TRUE multimedia dock! I guess the only suggestion i could offer is if it were possible to actually add a few usb ports into the base of the hdmi dock itself, which is how i feel samsung should have made it originally...definitely not a priority.
Here are a few reference threads if interested & i've already provided a link in each one pointing to your original post for those interested (hope u dont mind!)

Sorry, but I can't do this for you.... It's complicated.
Now I work to found a solution to put an USB connector on the dock and to put a power connector to.
The big problem is that the tab enters on MTP mod when powered this way. As described on other threads there is a way with USB lines to activate full external power.
When I'll have a full modification dock I'll put some pictures and instruction for that.
waiting for pics and further info please...
Galaxy Tab Dock modified
Now I have a full functional dock, modified.
So, after receiving the Galaxy Tab Plus media dock from ebay I've found that I can change the tab fixing part with the one on the old Galaxy Tab Dock.
So, now I have old Galaxy Tab multimedia dock full compatible with my Galaxy Tab Plus.
Then I modified the dock to include standard power jack and standard miniusb connector for OTG.
The USB Host is powered from the external power supply, this helps to not discharge the battery when using tab and slow charging.
I made some pictures with details for connections and modification.
You can view at:

There was some work to do...is not very easy. The best thing that can be done is to make a PCB. That PCB, at in my pictures, could be fixed near metal weight. Also there the clips of the case need to be cut, but there is no problem because at same position exist screws for fixing.
The problem with MTP application started when power connected or tab inserted on dock remains. But now is easier to use external HDD, usb keyboard & mouse and television to watch movies.
That's amazing, Emil! That's the dock accessory Samsung should have sold in the first place. After looking over your pictures, I'm ready to go order a soldering iron and get to work!
Hi emil b just letting you know i was playing around with my dock and found how to get rid of the red x from when power is applyd.
First connect power and get red x....
Then disconect the earth and re connect it again..
This forces AC Charge mode...
No resisters or shorting data lines are needed..
So good for being in host mode...
All you need to do is put a on/off switch inline on the earth
Where you supplied power to the dock.
Doesnt need to be inside the dock..
Give it a try and let me know...
Just have to play with it and hit switch a couple of times...
Im looking at all options concerning the modification of this dock. One question that comes to mind is: If I only use the red and blackwires to send power to the USB connector, will I still be able to use the OEM 30 power connector??
OP, I am going to attempt to make this modification myself. Would you be able to provide any additional instructions/suggestions to the pictures up on Flickr?
Thanks,
cypher

No because the origonal charger has the resisters on the data lines...
you are better to add just power to pin 7(9) and earth to pin (1)30..
then add a otg dongle..

[Q] Pixel 2 won't charge or allow data transfer over USB C

The title was supposed to say C-C
As in the title really; When I plug the phone into my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad L450) with a C-C cable, the following happens.
Some key points in trying to diagnose the issue:
Used three different C-C cables including the one that comes in the box
Tried a USB 3.0 A-C cable on the same laptop, works perfectly
Plugged a HTC 10 into the same port with the same cables, allows fast charging and 3.1 transfer rates
I have been into 'Developer Settings' and changed 'Select USB Configuration' to 'Charging',
Can anyone help, or is anyone experiencing a similar issue? I really don't want to have to RMA this.
for charging i cant really help but for data transfer try enabling usb debugging and getting the right drivers for the pixel 2. also connect as MTP for data transfer.
havent tried any of this myself as i dont need to transfer my files yet and theres no roms either but let me know if it works.
good luck!
I have kind of the same issue - while mine charges, it doesn't recognize the phone for MTP at all. Tried both the cable that came with the device, and the 5x cable I've been using since February. My husband's 5x is recognized, my Pixel 2 isn't. Have to use a USB-C to USB-A cable to do any data transfers.
This ticks me off, because I have 2 USB-C ports on my laptop. One that's a USB-C/Thunderbolt port (which always worked with the 5x), and the other that's just USC-C with USB 3.0 capability, which has my USB hub plugged into it. The hub won't work with the C/TB port, and now neither will the Pixel 2. So I either have to grab my C to A cable to load music and use ADB, or plug into the hub's port, losing my external keyboard, mouse, external HDD, printer, and Wacom tablet.
vido.ardes, is your C port Thunderbolt as well?

I posted my problem on the Google Product forums, and got this answer. It worked for me.

Hi all,
I just faced this issue. Connected my Pixel to my PC, no indication of connection either on PC or on Phone, except that the phone was charging. Even the file explorer on Windows 10 wasn't displaying Pixel as a connected device.
I found a solution, I hope it works for you all,
Go to Settings->Apps & notifications->App info->Tap 3 dots in top right corner->Tap 'Show system'.
Then find 'External storage' and 'Media storage' apps in the list and clear cache and data for both these apps. Restart your phone and wait 5-10 minutes before connecting the phone to your PC.
After connecting, the phone should now show 'USB connected for charging', as it did in Nougat. You can tap that notification and select file transfer."

These are the exact steps I did on the Pixel 2:
Settings>Apps & notifications>See all 125 apps>3 dot menu>Show System>Media Storage>Storage>Clear Data (this got the cache, as well)>Back>Back>External Storage>Storage>Clear Data.
Then I plugged it into the C/TB port, and the computer made the "USB Connected" noise, and "USB Debugging" came up in my phone's notifications (yes, I've enabled developer options and USB debugging there.) I'm then able to go into Settings>Connected Devices>USB and choose Transfer Files.
I just cleared the cache, not data for both and it worked.

Now that you can connect to your PC, is there any way I could get you or some other kind soul, to pull the system/framework folder and system/priv-app/SystemUIGoogle folder for me? The system.img files cannot be unpacked at this time. Every method tried gives "List index out of bounds" error.

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately no change for me. I fear I may have to RMA this, which I really don't want to have to do.
I have found on my other devices, that if I reboot to recovery mode, my computer can then read the file folders in my device.
This appears to be an issue with the laptop, not the phone, as it works on another PC with a USB-C port

USB problem

I have spent all day trying to connect my K1 to a PC - absolutely no luck at all - Not Recognised.
I have tried many different cables. I have tried 3 different PCs (all Win10).
I have ensured USB debugging is on & MTP.
I have factory reset it twice.
I have the latest Nvidia USB drivers installed on the PC of course.
I am starting to pull my hair out! Whatever I do Windows reports Device Not Recognised.
I am beginning to think that the USB socket is faulty. It charges perfectly, but is DATA actually getting through?
I have just tried an OTG cable and it just ignores it and won't access memory stick using it. This seems to reinforce the idea of a faulty USB on the K1 as far as data transfer is concerned.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
When tab is connected - slide your finger from top to bottom(open notification panel), tap charging, change to mtp/file transfer
Thanks, but....

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to reply. I cannot follow your instructions though.
When I plug in a PC, the tablet gives the 3-tone sound, but there is no notification in the panel. The battery icon just changes to show a lightning flash across it. The word Charging does not appear anywhere. Tapping the battery icon just takes me to the charging graph etc.
Am I being stupid?
In Settings/Developer 'Select USB Configuration' is set to MTP.
ANY suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks again...
Settings / Connected Devices / USB / Transfer Files.
What PC connection function are you trying to use? Is it internal storage, or adb, fastboot, etc.?
Thanks for your time.
In fact Nvidia eventually accepted that it was a hardware problem and 2yrs 10months into warranty, sent me a replacement.
VERY happy with this service.
Replacement now running Lineage 14 - much improved.
Well done Nvidia!

Trouble using my Samsung Galaxy S9 with a USB-C Hub

My Samsung S9 has had some screen damage and the touchscreen mostly does not work.
In order to navigate it I must use a mouse that I connect to the phone using the supplied USB C- A adapter.
I wish to get my phone repaired but I wish to backup all the data upon it first.
If I plug my phone directly into my PC, it asks for my permission to allow the PC access. However, since the touchscreen does not work properly, I cannot press the button to accept.
I could not plug both the mouse and PC simultaneously.
So I bought a USB-C hub. (Actually I've bought several, none of them have worked, this latest one is the most expensive and I had hoped it would work - (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZVKTP53/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
It has a separate port for USB-C Power Delivery and a separate one for data.
I plug the attached USB-C cable from the hub into my phone, and then I plug my mouse into a regular USB port, my charger into the USB-C PD port, and another USB-C to A cable from the USB-C Data port on the hub into a USB port at the back of my (new) PC.
Now my computer does not recognise my phone at all, nor does my phone seem to acknowledge it is connected to a PC. The mouse still works upon the phone and it charges fine through the PD port. If I plug the phone straight into the PC, it is recognised, so I do not think the problem lies there. The hub seems to block communication between the phone and PC.
I would like to backup my data and get my phone repaired. If anyone can solve the USB-C Hub issue or propose another solution to my problem then I would be grateful.
A mouse and keyboard will take priority over anything else in a hub.
I'm betting the hub's power is 2000mA or 2.0 Amps.
What does your fone charger state its power is? Add the mouse, keyboard, and fone's milliamps together. If it's more than the hub's power pack supplies....
In this situation, I would use Vysor, this will defo solve your problem, it allows you work with your fone on your pc/lappy by providing a lovely window that is a duplicate of your fone screen, you'll be glad you found this!!!
I can provide an old cracked version I used for my emergencies, if there is no objections?
Then you'll only need the mouse to use as your finger
Google Vysor. case closed lol.

Hi
Thanks for your reply
It's not a battery hub, but just a USB-C hub (check the link). Power comes from the PD USB-C port which is hooked up to my phone's original USB-C charger.
It also fails to work even when a mouse isn't attached to it.
I will look into Vysor. Also thought about the possibility of using a standalone bluetooth mouse which would free up the cable.
Your fone will suck the life out of a poorly powered hub, by using vysor, your pc/lappy mouse will work your fone using vysor, best app I've ever seen for working with broken screens, just plug phone direct into lappy, vysor works if you've no screen at all!!!!!
Use
Vysor
www.vysor.io
...Njoi
Dont pay for mouses/hubs in this scenario. Just pay for a top quality tool. I would place this as my number one android tool for ANY fone.
Again, if all your doing is data recovery (saving your stuff) I have a patch for an earlier version to unlock full version I swear by, you could use this once if only to try before you buy
The hub supports 85W fast charging directly from mains, which is what it is getting.
How do I enable USB debugging specifically for the app?
I have enabled it in developer options but when I connect my phone via USB to my computer as per the Vysor app, another window pops up on my phone asking to allow USB debugging. Ask there is no mouse attached to the phone at this point, I am unable to allow it.
