[Q] WiFi Connection Drops When Holding Phone - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Does anyone else suffer from the following problem:
My WiFi connection always briefly disconnects if I am holding the phone. This only appears to mainly occur (or becomes more noticeable) whilst doing something such as a video call.
Example: I start a video call with the phone on a surface. After a while I go to hold the phone in my hand, give or take a few seconds, the call will then be disconnected due to Network Connectivity Issues.
My WiFi signal bar will have no bars and the letter "E" along with a red "stop" type sign comes up in red for a few seconds, and then I get full WiFi signal again. The call then reconnects, and the process will keep repeating itself unless I stop holding my phone!
As I say, if I don't hold my phone, voice or video calls over WiFi work perfectly fine. EDIT: Actually, still occasionally occurs if on a surface too.
I also have similar issues with normal phone signal. Just holding the phone I can go from full signal down to "emergency calls only". But this isn't too much of a issue as it is with WiFi.
I'm hoping this is just a fault, but it would seem strange if so because everything works great IF I don't hold my phone - not too good really!
Any suggestions or help would be great.
Thanks!

I have the same issue. I can be standing in the same room as my router, and if I put my phone in my pocket and pull it out it will have disconnected from my network. Same issue with the cell network. I have T-Mobile and where I live, I can barely get 1 bar of 3G. I'm on edge most of the time. But the signal will drop off to where the phone will state I can only make emergency calls.

Well it's good (and not good) that someone else is suffering from the same issues as me I guess.
Would appear the best option for me is to return for a full refund. I will get onto Motorola though to see what they say about it. It's a brilliant phone besides this, but obviously it's a massive problem for me to live with.
I'm not sure whether to chance trying to get a replacement and seeing how that behaves. Anyone else having similar problems?

Well, i just saw this a few minutes ago, the wi-fi just drops from full to low, the wireless card is cheap i guess, my razr i didn' sufer with this, this happens when i hold in landscape mode only, this is sad.

[Q] Bad reception when phone is on shoulder

I have had the S3 for about a week now and I have noticed that whenever I put the phone on my shoulder (resting against my cheek) the sound quality/reception goes to crap 85% of the time. This happens on cell and wifi calls but definitely more on wifi calls (skype). I.e. I was on skype talking to my friend and my wifi had 3 out of 4 bars. Whenever I would put the phone on my should with my cheek to free my hands his voice would go really slow and sound like a robot lol. He would tell me how the signal on his skype would drop from 3-4 to 0-1 untill i grabbed the phone with my hand like normal.
Does anyone else have a issue like this? I would think that the way I am holding it wouldnt block the wifi/cell signal so much. I am running the VRLG7 modem btw.
Not even a "Nope don't have that issue?". Trying to decide if for some reason its a defect or its just the way the phone is. Any comments would be appreciated.
I think the reception is bad wherever it is. I'm getting to the point where I try to just leave it on the window and use headphones to call.

Please help!!! On 3rd Nexus 5, having same issues. Phone support is abysmal :(

I am having ongoing issues with the wifi on my Nexus 5. To the point I've received my 3rd one from RMA, but still have the exact same issue. At first I thought it may have been a hardware issue with the phone, so I RMA'd it. When I got my second and had the same problem, I started to not think it was a physical defect with the phone. The odds of getting two phones with the same issues would be astronomical. Now, on my 3rd, and still have the same issue. Every time I try calling and speak to phone service reps, they really don't know anything, and based on the questions they ask, or troubleshooting steps they suggest, lead me to believe they don't even understand the issue I'm trying to explain.
The wifi on my phone seems to "freeze", or stop working, stop scanning, something throughout the day. My day starts with my phone connected to my home wifi network. I leave for work, and I can watch my phone picking up random wifi signals on my drive. I get to work, and it picks up 8 wifi networks. None of which I've connected to. When I leave work 8 hours later, my phone is no longer picking up wifi signals, and won't scan for new ones. I get home, and it still says the 8 networks from work are in range, even though I'm miles away.
This is how my wifi list should look sitting in my living room. It has my network that it is connected to, as well as it picks up 4 of my neighbors networks.
This is how it looks sitting in my living room after getting home from work. Those are the 8 work wifi networks, which are miles away. It still says they're in range. You can see the last one cut off on the bottom, is my home one that says it's out of range.
I can hit the 3 dot option button, and choose "Scan", and it won't rescan. If the only issue was that it didn't pick up my network, I could see it possibly being an issue with my home network. But the fact that it still shows 8 networks that are out of range, as well as the fact it won't detect any network, mine or my neighbors, kind of rules out that it's an issue with my network.
Turning wifi on and off won't fix it. However, power cycling the phone will, or if I toggle airplane mode. But I shouldn't have to do that every day when I come home.
With my most recent Nexus 5, when I took it out of the box I didn't do a single thing to it, aside from turn it on, and manually put in the info to connect to my home network. Not a single app was downloaded, just to rule out it wasn't something I was installing on the phone. I absolutely love the Nexus 5, it's probably the best phone I've owned. But I am at my wits end with this issue.
Its probably not an actual fix, but I was having the same problems with mine, and I hate sending stuff back and play the waiting game over and over. So I got pissed off with wifi and just left it on LTE for a week or so and went back to wifi just to check up on the issue and it was gone.
Its been almost 3 weeks now and no problem, everything is working perfectly fine. LTE draining my battery was a pain thou but it paid off in the end somehow.

I'd be happy with just about any fix, as long as it fixes the issue. LTE draining my battery wouldn't be an issue, I'd be more worried about my data. While I have "unlimited" data from AT&T, I get throttled after 5GB. Since I stream large amounts of music, I can blow through that rather fast. So I try to keep my phone connected to wifi as much as possible. But it definitely is something to suck up and try if I don't get a better solution. I have this cross posted just about everywhere I could think of.

[Completed] Vzw Motorola Droid Turbo doesn't stay connected to Vzw Network Extender SCS-2U01

Never posted here before, but I have a pretty specific situation and have heard this is the place to find the experts.
I just switched from a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 to a Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo 64gb. I have a Samsung SCS-2U01 Network Extender through Verizon because I am in a strange dead pocket for their network, as in I can barely get 1-3 bars of 1x normally and phones like to drop calls at my house. So, with my GS3 and my wife's Note 3, everything was fine and dandy, phones connect when you walk in the house, and stay connected.
When I just switched to the Droid Turbo, the phone connects to the Network Extender when I walk into the house (shows the little "house" emblem), but as soon as some Wi-Fi action takes place (which it automatically connects to as well), the little house emblem disappears, and I appear to not be on the Network Extender anymore. By the way, I do have the Extender configured via the website to allow our two numbers only to connect. Strangely, when I call #48 it says I AM connected.... weird.
When checking in the phone settings, I am in fact not connected anymore, and have -85 to -90 dBmW of 1x signal.
When I turn the Wi-Fi off, it reconnects to the Extender and I have -75dBmW of 3G and the house emblem appears again.
When I try to pull in an MMS message, it fails (having only 1x signal) and the phone sits there just getting hot, and PLOWING through battery.
I have seen a post on here about a similar issue that links the problem to Motorola's use of a single antenna for Wi-Fi and cell network. So, I understand the root of the issue being Motorala's decision to use a single radio chip.
My question is: is there another solution? Is there a way to force a sustained connection? Do I just need to get a different phone with two separate chips? The Samsung seem to handle it well, maybe the LG G3? Verizon seems stumped about this one, and will let me exchange until Jan 15. I figured I would consult here first.
I'm happy to provide any more info.

Typically when on Stable wifi, Android does indeed turn off Cell Radio for Data connection so as to save Battery. However, in your case, being one common radio makes a double whammy. The phone must turn off Data in order to get on WiFi.
So in your case, although the phone's display won't show it, you still have got bars that'd let you make or receive calls while connected to WiFi. As to Texts, it could be deal breaker for you. I do believe Verizon needs to have Data Connection On in order to receive MMS or texts. In which case, this device is no good, especially considering the dead zone you are in. You *could* switch to Google Voice to send and receive texts but that's a workaround to be honest.
Last but not the least, please review Wi-Fi issue you might want to post there and get a second opinion from one of the Experts for your device.

Delayed WiFi timeout to disconnect?

This is something I've noticed over time now, honestly not entirely sure if it's just this phone because I never really paid attention to it on others.
Does anyone else notice that it takes a bit of time for wifi to actually disconnect from a network when you get far enough from it to have poor signal?
I mostly notice this when I walk my dogs. I'm able to walk almost an entire block away before Wi-Fi disconnects, as per the status showing.
I already removed antennas from the router as I do not need extended distance but it honestly seems like a phantom connection.
When I go back to the same spot that the wifi eventually drops and use Wi-Fi analyzer I don't even see the network.
Anyone else notice?

Various issues with Verizon V50

Folks,
I am curious if anyone else is having some of the issues I've been experiencing. I am not happy with this phone overall. I am having lots of problems with it:
- HotSpot - I originally found a hotspot issue with this phone, that took them a few weeks to resolve. But even after they've resolved it, I have other issues. The biggest is that after some period of time, my laptop will not get data through the phone. I've tried different laptops. The laptop shows that it is still connected to the phone's wifi but no data. The fix is to disconnect the laptop from the hotspot and then reconnect. This is an issue for me as I use this for work to provide customer demos. In order to get to my lab, I need to make 2 VPN hops. (1 into work and then 1 into my lab) When I disconnect and reconnect my laptop the hotspot, I have to go through all of that again. This problem only affects the connected device. So when the laptop stops "working", the phone can send/receive data just fine. If I kick off a speedtest, it looks good.
- GPS issues - The GPS accuracy seems to drift. Lots of times when I am using Waze, it has me in completely different places going in different directions.
- Phone issues - I drop calls often. I believe (but not 100% sure) that this happens when it uses wi-fi calling. (I just turned off wifi calling, so I'll see how it goes)
- Phone issues pt. 2 - Sometimes I get an error message "Mobile network is unavailable" and I cannot make or receive calls. A reboot fixes this.
Been a huge LG phone fan since the G2 (even loved the G4 despite the bootlooping), but this phone makes me want to throw it against the wall
Hello! You may want to turn off the default 5 minutes timeout. I think this is the problem. Check attached screenshots.

It's not turning off as I have the timeout set to Never Turns Off.
Thanks
I am having the same issue. People have told me that they tried to call me but phone never rang. It also rang on their end and then went to VM. So people assume that I got a missed call but I didn't.
I also at time show no reception. I would have to go into auto connection to network and then it starts working again.
This is really screwing up my business.
I have the same problem with missing calls (never rings) or I can't make a call. Also, sometimes I can hear the other person clearly but they can't hear me or I sound terrible on their end. However, I have an LG V30 (lurking here because I'm looking to buy a V50) so I don't think it has to do with the phone as much as it's Verizon's coverage. For the last 8+ months this issue has gotten worse in my area. I was thinking it was the phone, but I think it's Verizon.
Edit: Just in case it matters, I'm still on the original grandfathered UDP
I must clarify that this issue only pertains when I am home. For some reason, when I loose Verizon connection because the wifi is being used or a dead spot in my house. The mobile connection won't come back on until I manuallly have to reconnect.
I used to have Verizon fios at home and never had issues before but as soon as i switched to optimum this issue might be because of that.
Outside of my home, I don't have any issues with missed calls.
