[Q] Google Now voice 'Personalized Recognition' in UK - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I recently purchased a Nexus 10 (And have a Nexus 5 on its way being posted tomorrow from the Play store ). I live in the UK and after reading online realized that you can use the Google Now voice features if you set the language to English(US). I have been playing around with this for a few days and its pretty cool. My only issue is that it seems to get several words wrong (my accent is quite plain, clean and distinguishable, although distinctly British), particularly when asking for directions etc where the words may not be of common use.
I read online that about 2 years ago, Google released a 'personalized voice recognition' feature but that this feature is only available to Google customers in the US (Google stated other 'languages' would soon be supported). Does anyone know whether this feature will be enabled after rooting the device? Has anyone from outside the US rooted their device and had the settings>voice>'personalized recognition' box appear? or used market enabler and had it appear?
There is no way Google would ever be able to produce a single voice model to encompass the entire UK regional dialects (Geordie, Scouse, Broad Yorkshire, Cockney, West Country etc.) henceforth it would seem this feature would be particularly pertinent for Google's UK customers, and other English based dialects for that matter (Australia/New Zealand etc.).
Cheers

They would only tell me that officially the Google Now app is only supported in the US. That's some help. . . . Its one of the defining features of the new OS. Maybe they should stick to selling their products in the US . . . .

Thanks PhillipTD, I'll check it out.
It turns out quite a few people are complaining about this to Google on their forums. If you are an android user AND English speaker AND live outside the US AND want to use the 'Personalized Recognition' service you can show your support on the Google forums here:

Lets be honest, the more people who complain, the more likely it is you will get the service. You opinion matters!

I am for lack of a better word, an idiot

well i have a touch pro, and have browsed this site extensively, and have in a last ditch effort brought my problem to the forefront.
I am not very tech savvy as you may put it , and dont have any experience with windows mobile devices. But what I am trying to do it put some form of gps client on my device. yes it comes with a gps server and thats great, but no gps software to utilize this. I have read posts about various softwares, but to be honest, i have no idea where to get these softwares, how to install them and anything about bandwidths or satellites or anything.
If it wouldnt be too much to ask, would anyone here take it upon themselves to kinda write and outline for dummie on how to install gps on ure touch pro, and exactly how u go about doing this. I live in Hungary at the moment, and would like to have a client that supports world maps. I dont know about data plans or anything, so i would like it to be self reliant.
Any nudges in the right direction (gps joke, not a funny one however) would be appreciated.
thank you.
There is a search functioin at the top of the thread listing - you can use that.
Otherwise this is how, after much hassle, I bought a genuine copy of CoPilot for Touch Diamond and installed it on the Pro.

That would be the "Choose Country" drop down from the top right hand corner of the ALK homepage.
If your Country isn't listed select the UK and then buy online from ALK. You can then change the currency to Euro's and they charge EUR10.50 or something like that for international shipping - this is what I did.

You can try this: www.igo.hu
i dont actually speak hungarian, so th igo.hu site doesnt really help me all that much. I have no problem buying the north american version, as long as someone can reassure me that european maps are included in that version. there is a store that sells it near where i live, but they are charging more than double the price of what it says online.
is there anyone who lives in europe that uses one of these softwares and is aware of its coverage?
thanks again
You're right your not very tech savvy are you !
as was mentioned earlier NO the north america maps are not for you, HOWEVER if you click on the tab at the very top right of the screen you will be able to choose your continent/country

Omnia HD Configurations anyone?????? PLEASE!!

I just bought an Omnia HD here in the states. As everyone one knows it' hasnt been marketed here for some reason, i just dont know why. And because of that im having major problems with my HD. Tmobile services it but since it's an unlocked phone that they dont promote not all services will be supported by them. The HD comes with A-gps turn by turn navigation, IM and Email. Those three are what i cant use. is there a symbian site or some third party application i can use as alternatives for these?? i downloaded google map but that doesnt go hand in hand with the gups navigation and i have to get online to check my email instead of it coming directly to my phone. I mean it's almost pointless to buy this phone if no network in the US can support all it's features. Please helllllp (
As you know this is an HTC devices only forum so you won´t get too much atention, however in off topic section there is a thread regarding samsung, perhaps there you can find more help.
Good luck,

It's a US Based company that hasn't released their flagship phone overseas yet? Final Fantasy XIII's been out in Japan for a while, but I still gotta wait until next Tuesday. You don't see me tearing up because of it.

Singapore and Hong Kong not "overseas" enough for you? Google up a world map.
I just looked at the world map. Looks like there's quite a bit of landmass
out there that doesn't fit under "Singapore and HK"!
So, no. Singapore and HK not "overseas" enough.
Coming to the app: thanks for the rip, krohnjw.
App works as advertised. But with the likes of NubDialer
and Dialer One, I don't see the point of the app.
I'm sure this app is just a test ground for Google's team
to learn more about gestures. We'll see gestures implemented
in a more complete way in the future throughout the OS I guess.
On a different note:
With the Google Search Widget, Voice Search, and now Gesture Search,
there's a number of ways to quickly and efficiently get to the Contact/App/Song
you're looking for on your phone. And yet, searching apps on the Market continues
to be a "stringCompare()" search function, penalizing you for single letter errors
and so on. Frustrating.

+1 .considering their bread and butter is searching, their market search sucks arse. wonder if they are working on improving it.
Imagine if future iterations of Android incorporate this gesture search into everything. I'd be in heaven.
Thanks for the apk, The app isn't available in Israel so got it from here.

My bad. Didn't realize it was available to those locations through official channels. Do they have access to the app? Now it's really interesting if the countries you can get it legit in don't have access to the same market content. That would actually be kind of lame.

The N1's also available to people in the UK, and no, neither the UK nor Singapore nor Hong Kong has access to gesture search. Bit unfortunate, really.
Thanks, works perfec in N1 in Spain.
Another apk
Didn't download on my nexus one, this one worked though
Google Gesture Search apk - mediafire.com/file/zlz2zwmiomo/com.google.android.apps.gesturesearch.apk
i've got gesture search from market place this morning and i'm in the UK.
Works well, would be great if it could be bound to the search button.

Poor customer service frrom the makers of SlideIT

SlideIT is a Swype style keyboard.
I bought it for my HTC HD2, which I only owned for 3 months before it was stolen. Last week I finally got a new smartphone, on the Android platform.
Anyhow, I asked the Dasur Team, the authors of SlideIT if they could provide me with the Android installation file but they refused.
Apparently they want me to pay for it again. I must say I find this quite disappointing.
I am happily using Swype which is just as good now (it was a bit lacking 5 months ago but has improved a lot).
Thanks for reading,
Happy swyping
If you want to have automatic further updates from the market you need to buy the app again. I understand the slide it team and that's not a poor service also you have buy the app for a different plattform.
Sent from my Nexus One
I would be very surprised to find any apps that you would get free cross-platform updates.
Although I would not complain if my wife could buy the itunes version of things and I could get the android version, it is not a very good business model.
Edit: read your post wrong.
If Dasur (the SlideIt devs) has a policy of no cross-platform updates they should explicitly state it.
The larger problem is that their customer support just stinks.
When my phone received an OTA update SlideIt no longer showed up in the market for me. I had to reset the phone due to another app and could not download SlideIt. I contacted them and they said contact Google they are responsible for what shows up in the market. I finally harassed them into a refund.
I had the same problem with three other apps. The devs for those were very helpful and I was able to get the apps back on my phone.
SlideIt is a great product, with poor customer support. I Like it enough that when it did show up in the market again (after another OTA update) I bought it again. (yeah, I'm a sucker) .
I do know that the issue of what you can see and buy in the market has many factors from the manufacturer's, to google and the devs. But when you sell a product you should support it.
BTW - Google has absolutely no 'customer' service. I can see why they failed as a retailer (Nexus 1).

Ouch. I do not agree with said statements at all. Google sells many products, most of which are wildly successful. Are you sore about something, or just wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

I would assume that its a given.
You don't MacOffice updates just because you own Office 2007 for Windows..and I doubt that is explicitly stated on the Office 2007 Box.

Google may provide support to corporate clients but if you use any of the "free" products (they are not free you trade your privacy for them) try getting support. 30% of market fees go to google but try getting help if you have a problem with the market.
I state this as my experience with them. No grudge. Can you give me a phone number I can call about losing paid apps when my phone updates?

There are products that you can cross platform upgrade. Adobe Photoshop is one. There are other products that charge one fee for all platforms it is available on. Rainlendar Calendar for example.
So no I would not assume that a product offers cross-platform upgrades. I would ask or read the info provided by the developer/seller.
I realise the dasur team don't have to provide cross platform support.
But it's not like I want to run the app on both platforms at once. I just want it on the machine I'm using.
I don't feel like I'm asking for something I haven't already paid for.
If I was in their shoes, I would value their paying customers. Firstly because there are competitors who offer an equivalent product for free. And secondly because it's not hard to find their product for free with a crafty google search. Not that I'm condoning piracy - but hey, I've already paid for their app...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
While I don't agree with the fact that they should give him the android app because he paid for the winmo one, I do agree that slideIT customer service is horrible, it took me a week to get a refund through them due to lack of response.

[Q] Importing a Japanese Phone (Android Market)

https://www.google.ca/search?q=SH-06D+NERV&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=643&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=iN84VcD8NMWpogT194DIAQ&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ
^This was my phone when I was teaching English in Japan many years ago... Yes an anime theme phone... I want to order another one for mainly sentimental reasons, but what I am concerned about is the apps/Android Market.
I already have a phone I am satisfied with, I wouldn't be using this one other than to play with some apps. How would accessing the Android Market work? Would I be accessing the North American Market or the Japanese one?
Please and thank you!
