Singapore and Hong Kong not "overseas" enough for you? Google up a world map.
I just looked at the world map. Looks like there's quite a bit of landmass
out there that doesn't fit under "Singapore and HK"!
So, no. Singapore and HK not "overseas" enough.
Coming to the app: thanks for the rip, krohnjw.
App works as advertised. But with the likes of NubDialer
and Dialer One, I don't see the point of the app.
I'm sure this app is just a test ground for Google's team
to learn more about gestures. We'll see gestures implemented
in a more complete way in the future throughout the OS I guess.
On a different note:
With the Google Search Widget, Voice Search, and now Gesture Search,
there's a number of ways to quickly and efficiently get to the Contact/App/Song
you're looking for on your phone. And yet, searching apps on the Market continues
to be a "stringCompare()" search function, penalizing you for single letter errors
and so on. Frustrating.

+1 .considering their bread and butter is searching, their market search sucks arse. wonder if they are working on improving it.
Imagine if future iterations of Android incorporate this gesture search into everything. I'd be in heaven.

My bad. Didn't realize it was available to those locations through official channels. Do they have access to the app? Now it's really interesting if the countries you can get it legit in don't have access to the same market content. That would actually be kind of lame.

The N1's also available to people in the UK, and no, neither the UK nor Singapore nor Hong Kong has access to gesture search. Bit unfortunate, really.
Thanks, works perfec in N1 in Spain.

Anyone else absolutely HATE the Google setup? I can simply go to the site and pull up the same directions. If I make a wrong turn however, I am done for. Need to pull over, recalculate where I am etc...
Also it is a major PITA that if I go out of the service area, I am flying blind...
So what have people heard as a time frame for a Garmin/TomTom style setup? I hear people are "working on it" but other than AndNav which isn't real time, nothing is out yet. This is fairly important as I run a DJ company and am always going into the unknown....
Just sitting here debating on picking up an independent GPS or waiting it out (if that meant a few weeks)
I am also in the same boat, but to repeat what others have yelled at me- "if you dont like it, build it yourself" Keep in mind I dont agree, but the fanboys will surely flame posts like this that complain about their precious Android's lack of common sense
I don't mind paying for it... just want it!

It's licensing, not "common sense". Most of the data in Google maps is licensed from companies that have also sold it to companies like TomTom and Garmin. Of course they're not idiots and put the equivalent of a non-competitive clause in the license contract.
AndNav is actually coming along quite nicely. The version on the market is still based on Google maps, so no real-time. AndNav2 is only on his site right now, http://www.andnav.org/. There's a fundraiser going on to launch a US server. So if you're interested in having it, donate and help the cause.

No one's holding you at gunpoint forcing you to use it. If you don't like it stop using it.
I spent $170 on a Navigon GPS unit so I have turn-by-turn directions but it has almost no POIs in its database. Now, I have the G1 with all the POIs in Google and no turn-by-turn directions and the Navigon with no POIs but with turn-by-turn. It's ridiculous and I'm out what I would have spent in software for the one device I REALLY want to carry with me - my smartphone.
So I have to do all the legwork looking up a POI on my phone, get the directions, set up the GPS, manually punch in the address and then get going to it. I should be able to just buy nav software for the phone that lets me look up contacts/POIs on my phone, click "Navigate To" and have the phone tell me when to turn and what the traffic looks like on the way there.
There is ONE guy who is creating a turn-by-turn nav system for the G1. Go to Andnav.org and check it out. He currently has the V1 program in the market but it uses Google maps and is suffering from the legal setbacks of using that. His V2 program is going to use OpenStreetMap but the street data sucks compared to TeleNav and Navteq.
I gave him a $25 donation and hopefully more people will do so to get the US server up and running.

I wouldn't mind donating to AndNav. However, he plans on selling the software last I heard. This means donating and then buying the software? Sorry, but seems a little redundant.
The morons saying "build it yourself" should just shut their mouths. I have a job, and it's not in programming. That's why I pay others for that work as others pay me to write music.

The people on here just cant get it in their head that we BOUGHT the phone (who cares if the software was "free", we still BOUGHT it as a package) and some stuff DONT work. Google is not doing what they can to help, instead they are releasing software like "scoreboard" and updates that are planned seem to consist of multi-language support. NOT stuff that will help us with our problems.

Doesn't work based on what definition? If you say "Maps on Android doesn't work because it doesn't do my taxes" or more realistically "Maps on Android doesn't work because it can't provide realtime directions", what are you basing that judgement on? I feel like this argument is getting rehashed over and over again and it's kind of getting depressing that folks still haven't got it into their heads.
YOU RECEIVED THE PRODUCT THAT WAS ADVERTISED. If the box or any of T-Mo's advertising said "It can do realtime navigation out of the box" then yes you are qualified to say "it doesn't work". If you just assumed that it could do X and Y out of the box or you feel like it should but it doesn't, that doesn't mean the product "doesn't work", it means you should have bought a different product.

Not sure if this is something that has been posted in this forum before, but I got a letter from Verizon regarding my FCC complaint about Google Wallet.
Thought it was worth sharing...
This is just utter bs.. Makes me sick to be a Verizon customer. So according to them they don't block Google Wallet, but then they go on to explain that any app that integrates with the secure element will be blocked.. So why diddnt they just say that in the first place? I'm sure this is just an excuse for them to force us to use their ****ty take on wallet, and you can be damn sure their app integrates with the secure element, hypocrits. How is it that every other carrier has it available and we don't? So it sounds like if we want official Google Wallet for our devices without editing the build prop, Google will have to release a device under Verizon with it preinstalled. Wow, just wow.

I believe Verizon has stated that they won't provide ISIS access to Nexus devices either as they are not certified for their BLAH BLAH security reasons BLAH. I do believe Google is tinkering on a work around for this stuff. At least they didn't go to the effort of disabling NFC entirely like other carriers have.

Wow, this is kinda messed up. Hopefully google can find a way around this, the carriers definitely have too much control over android to be able to have limitations like this in place.
Would be nice if google had full control over the android ecosystem, especially for things like updates, but thankfully we can root and use custom roms to get around the updates issue (especially us VZ users since they're always last to push updates).

FYI, I dropped the story to Droid-Life thanks to you guys (ItsASamsung is my alternate usertag). I like the way phonearena put it best.
So, the official reason why Verizon isn't allowing Google Wallet is because it requires interaction with a "secure element" (aka NFC-chip), and that secure element isn't available on all Verizon handsets. Following this logic, Verizon will have to be careful when Isis is launched on the network (currently it is only testing on T-Mobile), and not allow users who haven't purchased NFC-enabled SIM cards to download and install Isis, or else the company would look quite hypocritical.

Is Yelp the only such site with a serviceable API? Because they extort small businesses and should really be used by no one. They are some nasty people. I used to write reviews for them, but I found out they would only publish them if the business owner paid. I would delete them if I could but I don't think I can. I review on TripAdvisor now, as they seem to just display the reviews in order. But I'm not sure if they're open.
Nice to see my hometown in one of the screenshots. I'm from Santa Rosa originally, so I recognized the first and last screenshots' maps.

Hey! We decided to use Yelp because they have a big database with a lot of information about bars worldwide. It's interesting what you mentioned about them I haven't had that experience. I like TripAdvisor, I often use it to view reviews of hotels and stuff, didn't know they had information/reviews about bars. Anyway Thanks for the info!
Oh yeah, it's widely reported, and it's basically how they make money. They do have a big database, though. It's like how I'm on Verizon, I don't like some of their business practices but I want the best network for calling in my area. So yesterday I was giving this some thought and then realised Huawei have jumped leaps and bounds with Petal Search (a few more tweaks and it will just as powerful) I am yet to come across an app that I am in need of that isn't AG / PS available, overall for me its great and can't wait for future products being hardware / software development from Huawei;
What is your honest opinion on AG / Petal Search FA -
Would you use a Huawei solely with AG?
What key Apps are you missing / needing?
Just trying to gauge an honest opinion on the new direction from Huawei Mobile Services?
Look forward to your replies, thanks in advance
I personally do not think you could fully use the device just using AG. I don't think that there is enough variety of apps on there. But petal search is a life saver. I think just getting the banking apps on an official market (yes don't @ me, I know they can phone clone over). But having worked in phone shops in the past, I know customers 80% of the tome do not know what they are doing. So having them on an official market where they can download them will be a massive help to the consumer bias.
been using the phone for 3 weeks now, honestly thought i would need GMs and i couldnt tell you what i need it for. Use the phone every day without GMS and i have every app including banking on it and its amazing. Only thing i use is youtube vance as an alternative for youtube.

Definitely agree with you there bud I would have potential gone another route if it wasn't due down to Petal Search Find Apps, Huawei have started a great journey by themselves now and surely can only get bigger & better.
From my understanding Huawei use a 4 layer security on AG I have heard this is the same for Petal Search and I have also noticed recently when installing apps of PS a separate tabs appears which verify security.

TomTom FINALLY will check it out now thanks for sharing man, I suppose App Gallery has been around for so long and developers across the world just upload apps on apps, Petal Search has been great so far and the name suits :cyclops:
Hi guys.
I keep seeing recurring themes on social media of people saying that they cannot get any banking apps over, banking apps not working.
Do people know what the issue is with this as my apps phone cloned over? I also just update them through Aurora store; Which just seems like a clone of play store.
Anyone else had these issue, or is it just the Huawei haters that would never even get a Huawei device poking there nose in?

Totally agree with you on this one I see so many negative comments but none are true especially as I am comfortable using a P40 Pro with access to Halifax, Barclays and Tesco Bank and 2 of those were Phone Cloned over with no issues a month in, would be a solid suggestion if Huawei went public with this as it could be make or break for a potential customer.
Me too, used clone and then aurora, no problems. Use Lloyds with no probs too. Well happy.
Most likely trolls spreading false information. I was using a banking app that wasn't on the Huawei App Gallery without any issues at all. It was recently added to the App Gallery, so that's even better I guess.

I agree with you, its people spreading misinformation. They are likely people that wouldn't even buy Huawei as they are probably wrapped up in an overprices phone that will have all the features of Huawei devices 3 years later.

The issue i feel is that people see Huawei as "bad guys" due to certain people not being a fan of the company. Purely on the fact that they do things better than most.

currently at the minute no - however I got in touch with them via facebook and they got back in touch to my surprise and they said they were going to pass it to the right department. If it doesn't work I will have to switch banks - for now im using the web browser as a solution.

This is exactly the problem, the far East is a highly motivated and developed country with the resources to help globalisation not break it but the media portrays it in a different way I suppose.

the western media tbf is very 'shhhhh' misleading. I think if they had given a bigger picture & then be more informative I think the message would be clearer. Had I not known by actually researching into Huawei , I would have thought that all Huawei products would have been withdrawn off the UK market - However that's not the case , its just infrastructure not handsets/tablets.
