Hi estimated XDA community,
I face a weird problem with my Samsung Galaxy S4.
History:
I bought it new, operator simlocked, in France
I use a second SIM from my operator, bound to the data quota of the "main" one, that allows me only for DATA connection
It used to work at the very begining in pure stock mode (was Android 4.2 by them)
I flashed several part of it, from CSC to Modem and OS to customize it
No major crash or problem during any of the flash made mainly with Odin
Application to change CSC (CSC select, changer, etc.) are usually non functionning
I could change my CSC to XEF through a flash of stock bootloader and CSC
Current state:
The phone is fully functionnal but do not connect to cellphone network (but does WIFI fine though)
I have signal "bars" displayed with fair reception and it is hooked to my operator network
I can't issue most of the USSD codes, it ends in a "unable to process request" *#0011#, *#1234#, etc. (but it seems I'm not the only one when running an Android 4.4.2 ?)
Testing with the SIM card of a friend, who has a standard voice+data subscription, the phone works and hooks the network in 3G
I changed my SIM yesterday to a new one, freshly activated, to test if it comes from that, problem stayed the same
Network Information tab :
Network : F SFR
Signal : -97 dbm
Mobile Network type : UMTS
Sservice state : in service
Roaming : not roaming
Mobile network state : disconnected
My phone number : unknown
Current configuration :
* PDA : Pure Android 4.4.2 JanJan
* Modem : XXUEMKE
Can it be related to my EFS partition being corrupted?
Is it a CSC problem ?

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (16gb) in Singapore and was using it fine on Singtel's network (signed a contract with them). Now I have moved back to Canada and brought my phone with me assuming that all would be ok to use it with the network here. However I'm having big problems with this one network I just signed up with (Virgin Mobile).
85% of the time I cannot connect to it: voice calls and SMSing won't work nor will the data work on it, the only thing it says is "Emergency calls only". Then at other times everything will seem to connect and work fine - I can make calls and use data.
Virgin Mobile will not support me much because they're thinking it's the phone's problem, if I use the phone they gave me (a lower-end model) it works fine.
Here are some details of my phone:
Firmware version
2 2
Baseband version
I9000DXJPA
Kernel version
2 6 32 9
root (at) SE-S604 #1
Build number
FROYO DXJPA
If I check out the status, it usually says this:
Network
Unknown (switches to VIRGIN when it does work)
Mobile network type
UMTS (switches between that and HSDPA and GPRS)
Service state
Out of service
Mobile network state
Disconnected (switches to connected when working, and even when it's not working sometimes)
I have Network mode set to auto mode (GSM/WCDMA). I've tried to switch it to GSM only but that didn't seem to change anything.
I'm wondering if there's some kind of configuration settings I still need to do with the phone? I'm also wondering if it is the network I'm with right now? Virgin Mobile isn't one of the bigger telcom companies here and I'm thinking that if I switch to one of the bigger telcoms, will it work better?
Something else to add - before I signed up with Virgin I was using my phone with a pre-paid service (called Chatr) for voice only and it was working fine.
I'm sure this phone can support the GSM frequencies here.. can't it?
I also still have the Singtel customizations on the phone. Will it help if I remove it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Ryan
sorry, wrong category..
[Q] Why SIM country & operator codes wrong and how were additional APN's installed?
I’m in Ireland, The offices of the Garda Ombudsman (GSOC) was in the papers earlier this year because it was suspected they were being bugged. Also apparently the Gardai have been recording calls to and from police stations for years without the public (or lawyers) being informed. So recording of telephone calls/interception is topical here is topical now.
Wearing my tin-hat, I did a full wipe and installed a Cyanogen-based ROM on my rooted Samsung Galaxy S (i9000). I manually input the correct APN settings for my network operator (48Months/O2-IRL) and I installed Orbot
I never got a network configuration SMS/MMS from the network operator. But somehow, I found also installed (not immediately) were the following APNs:
Eastlink Internet: wisp.mobi.eastlink.ca
Proximus Internet: internet.proximus.be
Eastlink MMS: mms.mobi.eastlink.ca
Proximus MMS: event.proximus.be
It’s a new SIM from when I changed network operator a few months back. The above four APNs were also installed when it came and I queried this to 48 Months with no response. I never saw these APN’s with my previous network operator.
I downloaded a SIM reader app and got the following results:
SIM State - network locked
SIM country code - be
SIM Operator code 20601
SIM IMSI 20601 8816 582453
Phone type - gsm
Network country ID - ie
Net Oper code - 27202
Net Op name - O2 Irl
Net type - HSDPA
Voice roaming - on
Data roaming - off (even though in my phone settings it is showing as on)
So the SIM country code and SIM Operator code are wrong – being for an ISP in Belgium, and also there are those additional APNs which I never installed.
To my simple mind, APN settings are sent by network operators for auto configuration, so these APN’s came from the network operator. However, I have again queried with them and now they say “The tech team have replied this morning to confirm that there is nothing from the network or anything linked with your SIM that would cause your phone to change the settings on your phone.
Due to that they have had no option but to advise you that the phone must be the reason for this.”
But to my knowledge, there are no preinstalled APNs on the ROM (cm-MacKAY ROM Android 4.4.2), and also a 3rd party app can not edit the SIM country code /SIM operator code.
I would love to get an opinion from a developer more familiar with SIMs/APN’s please
Nearly SOLVED
OK, So tin hat is back in its box now...I emailed Eastlink in Canada and they seem to have solved it - very impressive especially when compared with the responses from my network!
"I have had our network team review your question and they have determined there is no security issue and no data traffic that would affect you.
Google has been changing the method that they use for APNs in AOSP. As part of that change APN's are preloaded in Kit Kat. Eastlink's APNs are correctly present in Kit Kat for Home Network Identity 20601.
If you require further assistance with your questions it is recommended the you contact Android Open Source Project or the Cyanogenmod on line.
Thank You for contacting Eastlink Wireless Customer care. "
By default the Network Mode is on LTE/WCDMA/GSM (Auto) mode but when I switch on mobile data, nothing shows up, no data connection. And sometimes even no voice service, it shows "emergency calls only".
But when I switch to GSM only mode, EDGE connection shows up (which is normal), Internet goes normal but very slow with EDGE connection (Sometime GPRS).
I tried to swap SIM with my friend, and their SIM works fine with my phone under LTE/WCDMA/GSM (Auto) mode and I do get HSPA and HSPA+ Signal. (Network provider setting changed to their network provider)
I contact my network provider and they said my SIM has no problem, they did insert my SIM into their device and found no problem with my SIM on their device, they get HSPA+ signal with my SIM. And they ask me to take my phone to check for hardware failure.
I checked the APNs and network provider setting, reset back to Stock ROM and clean install my ROM several times, still have no luck
My subscription do have HSPA connection and has been using it for months at the same location, but now it just stay at EDGE and GPRS only.
Is that really a hardware problem? Or could it be SIM problem?

I have exactly the same problem! Same ROM as well. Update to various CM13 releases, factory reset to stock kernel and rom but nothing helps.
Hi,
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S8+ (G955F) model. The phone shows Carrier ID: VOD (I guess means Vodafone/Product Code) in Odin Mode in Red Color, the phone is unlocked working on one carrier in all LTE/3G/2G networks but on other carrier it only works in LTE/3G modes and when i switch it to 2G only it doesn't register to a network on this second carrier and as long as i Turn it Back to LTE/3G/2G it registers but to only LTE or 3G.
I believe it is some kind of a partial carrier lock where the phone is locked on some carriers in different network modes.
Its not registering to 2G on Telenor Pakistan Network while it registers on LTE/3G/2G perfectly fine on Zong CMPak.
The phone doesnt require any kind of carrier unlock code or something.
Is there any way to work this around??? I have installed UK BTU Firmware from Sammobile, already debranded and works perfectly fine just not working in 2G mode on this one carrier.
Is there any way to change this product code or something while being on official Stock Firmware?
My Current Service Provider Version is: PAK/PAK/VOD
I want to change this to PAK/PAK/PAK and remove that Carrier ID: VOD thing from the odin mode display.
Please help!!!!!
hi did you find a solution??
Nopes. I just had to change my phone after all the things I tried, It won't go so I had no other option.
Hello,
So i have a Galaxy S6 (Cricket US) Unlocked and i am using it here in Pakistan.
Problem is that everytime i try to enter Ussd code it gives me this error " Connection problem or invalid MMI code." and this pops up instantly i can't even see the "Ussd code running" that loads initially when you dail code.
I can still make calls and send texts even the imei check code (*#06#) is working.
This is not my carrier problem as the codes are working on other phones.
I have searched everywhere (google, yotube etc) and tried every solution but nothing helped me.
So far i have tried :
1-Restarting
2-Using , and + trick
3-Booting in Safe mode
4-Factory Reset
5-Selecting Mobile Network many times.
Here is some info by Samsung Phone info app
Model: SM-G920AZ
Knox Warranty: 0x0
Firmware CSC Code: AIO
CSC Country: USA / US
Mobile Operator: Zong / 41004
Android 7.0 / SDK 24
There might be a lock or some of its LTE(4G) bands, or the network type is set to LTE(4G) only (though this shouldn't have survived the factory reset), try setting the network type to auto or 3g/2g. Enable CS+PS (VC) in the menu with the band selection if it was changed there previously.
