[q] nexus 5 freezed after unlocking the bootloader(wugfesh toolkit) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys i am new to xda ...yesterday i unlocked the bootloader by wugfresh's toolkit but after i unlocked the bootloader my phone freezed at the green robot screen i pressed up ,down ,power buttons but the phone didnt respond so i just pressed the up down +power button did just shut it down,...and started it again (i had my heart in my mouth)...then it started successfully +i also rooted it successfully.....my phone workx like a charm now.....so my question is ...has this happened to any user anytime during unlocking the bootloader ???is this a common issue??is my phone safe??plzzz....reply guys as soon as possible

Search in the wugfresh toolkit thread. Sounds like you had a temporary glitch. Your phone should be 'safe', although I'm not entirely sure what 'safe' means.

My device did this bone stock aswell...not sure why. Normally you will get a custom unlock screen after rooting with odinand flashing a recovery thru ez recovery on a locked bootloader. the fix, unlock your bootloader.
no I didn't do nothing that's why it's so weird I'm not even rooted,I have all the tools but haven't done it yet.

I've noticed the ,sg3 forum is so quick to respond thanks.but not rooting atm, I'm ok with stock, I'm still learning a whole lot, coming from an x,x2 I do appreciate this phone, and I have rooted both my other phones, ran eclipse on both and loved it, this phone runs better then both of them.no reason to root,or custom Rom yet...I'm doing a ton of reading first.learning everyday.
P.s.let's keep it friendly we're not Apple..

no freaking way. Can someone else confirm?
I think hes talking about the Odin prompt that tells you loading custom OS could cause problems... Bootloader doesnt appear to be unlocked.
It be nice if it is
I'm not doing the ota though till Dan says its OK just in case its not and just in case the new kernel won't let his unlock work

i think it just puts it in download mode so you could flash thru odin or adb.

They cant patch something when they don't know how it was broken. The whole point of him not releasing the bootloader unlock is that they can't stop us from unlocking if they don't know how we do it

Yeah that says Custom OS not unlock the phone and it was there before the update. If you are getting a prompt about unlocking, that's something different.

From galaxy to nexus

I still have months to go before I can upgrade, but, unless Samsung come out with something mind blowing before then I'll be looking at other possibilities. particularly a Google flagship!
My question is this - I use Odin to root a Samsung. It's very straight forward to do. In comparison how difficult\different is it to root a nexus?

Nexus device are as easy to root, just like samsung devices. Although, now that they have Nox(security) I don't know how easy it will be in the future..

It's extremely easy. I don't normally recommend using a tool kit and prefer the old fashion way. It's already so simple as it is. Install drivers, fastboot oem unlock.
Done. Samsung Odin is equivalent to fastboot but better and less buggy than Odin.

I feel like this won't be much issue. People buy a Nexus because it's open and you can play with stuff. I feel like too many people would be pissed at google if this actually had any real affect on things.

Yeah it's as easy as 3 or 4 commands in fastboot.
OEM unlock
flash recovery
flash ROM / kernel
Done.

If you didn't mod the system files then the original owner did. To resolve, flash stock factory 4.4.2 images. If you did a factory reset when you got the phone, and don't want to start over, flash the img files one at a time with fastboot (excluding userdata.img).
If you don't know how to do that, check out the stickies (I think in general). There is a very detailed thread there.

you can take the ota update through wi-fi only...
no need to reset. but i prefer to do it to prevent any system app from crashing and to have a fresh firmware.
All you had to do was connect to wifi. That update required you to do that. "Via wifi only".

Towelroot

Anyone else see this? It's touted for the nexus 5 in addition to other devices. Anyone know why? Will it root with a locked bootloader ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
We only need to unlock the bootloader to flash recovery. If an exploit has been found in kitkat, it is possible to root without unlocking the bootloader.
This could mean a full, end-to-end rooting process without the need to use a pc

Yeah.. My bootloader is locked and can flash recovery via flashify.
Although that's assuming bootunlocker truly locks the same as fastboot does because that's how I locked my bl.

yes. if you have root you can. worst case, there are apps to lock/unlock your bootloader if you do have root. can unlock, flash recovery via flashify, then relock.

Because I think an app that can root without a pc (and fastboot) will promote a lack of the need to learn the basics, giving us members here a hard time supporting people who don't know the basics

Yeah but someone who wipes /system on a train has at least possibly previously used fastboot or has a backup stored off their phone.
I see a lot of twrp users wiping /system and /sdcard.. If these people do the whole process on the way to work,, there's 0 chance of any backup anywhere.

Here's my stance.
I will not mention it as an option. If anyone asks if they can root without a pc I will not answer.. If anyone else mentions this app to them or someone asks about it specifically, I will advise on a best practice. I will also give warnings
Thats all I can do.

We could make a guide but I haven't time to do that right now. But if we could create our own guide with our warnings about not flashing anything until Nandroid and always being extra sure not to wipe stuff whilst away etc,, maybe there is a chance?
I don't know. It's a Concern
