[Req] Kit Kat notifications .zip - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that most ROMs for our Nexus still have all the old notification sounds instead of the new ones, which feel like they are as old as ICS. Can somebody whip up a .zip to flash with the ROM to add all of these at once properly? I looked back until the last week of November and I didn't see this apologies if this has been posted. Thanks.

Just Google Nexus 5 ringtones and you'll find an XDA link with a Dropbox zip file to download. You can then extract it and be good to go. No need to flash. I used it for my N7.

Thanks but if you flash a lot of roms it would be easier to flash the zip with gapps during set up.

If you download and extract them once they will be there with every ROM flash.

Save them to sdcard/notifications and sdcard/ringtones, although it would be nice to have a zip - I may make one tomorrow if I get time

Google Now Working

For anyone wanting to give Google Now a try on the photon Q. I gave this a test run no problems to report other then did seem to drain battery alittle faster thruout the day. But worked no issues or FC cards popped up as i used it more.
You do need to be Deodexed to run this
you can do that here if you havent already.
I used •M7 - mikeyxda's version 7 Offline/Online
Read all the instructions in the post. its well laid out easy to follow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29756226#post29756226
IF you decide you want to remove Google now and return to stock use this
DO NOT USE THE SUPPLIED ZIP IN THE LINKED POST
it deletes acouple of needed files for normal search on the Photon.
Working great here... thanks for posting.
One question, is that zip of the stock search app a flashable?

Rom with spell checker?

I just got this phone yesterday to discover that the stock rom (rooted) doesn't have the red line show up under a misspelled word. I had this on my evo 4g running cm9 or 10.
Does anyone know of a rom, or roms, that would have this feature.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Or would anyone know of a way to add this feature to the stock ics rom?
Thanks,

never really paid attention to this.
id think this might be a keyboard feature more than a rom feature, no?

I installed LantinIME.apk from a rom I extracted for the evo. The keyboard worked but still no spell checker. Did you happen to notice if any of the roms you've flashed had this feature, preferably an ICS rom?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I also think this is a keyboard feature. Try installing one of the different keyboards from the play store.
I'm using swift 3, no red lines on touchwiz, however my galaxy player 5.0 running cm9 w/swift 3 has it (did not on touchwiz). I assume this is a rom feature.

I have been trying to ilfigure this out for a while. I haven't been able to get it to work with any of the roms. Someone said CM10 might do it but haven't tried.
Edit:
This is a better start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832126 the changes could be diffed from the stock rom
OR
Some info behind it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641988&page=2

Would you happen to know if that would work with the stock rom (rooted) for Verizon?
I just got the phone and even though I've been doing a ton of reading, I'm still a noob when it comes to the s3. And the last thing I want to do is mess anything up. Atlest with the evo 4g I didn't have to worry about different carriers and what not.
Thanks,

The changes made should work. So basically if you compared the changes of this to their stock rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825272 and then applied the same changes to our stock rom, it would work. BUT their files as is will not work.
Basically, it would probably take about 15 minutes for someone to do if they knew what they were doing. I however don't have 15 minutes to spend on this so I can't help right now lol.

That's ok, as long as I know that it'll work. When I get to my PC I'll look it over and hopefully not break anything. Lol

so what I would do is download their stock deodex and extract the files that are included in the mod.
Then, decompile the .jars and apks that were modded and the stock version
Run winmerge on them to see exactly what they changed
Then make those exact changes to our stock deodex rom. So you will need to decompile 3 sets of files and recompile 1 set.

I got apktool installed and decompiled framework.jar where it creates a folder called smali. The problem is, I can't view any of the contents from within it. If I go to properties it states contents "nothing" yet shows free space as being 66.7 GB. So I know that there's something in there, I'm just not allowed to view the contents. I read somewhere that you need a text editor?
I did all this on a Linux machine (Mint 13.) I'm gonna try it on a windows PC next just to see what happens.
Edit: I found out that by changing .jar to .apk and then decompiling it allowed me to view the contents. Now I'm sitting at trying to open the TextView.smali. lol
Edit 2: for some reason it's not working for the JellyWiz rom. It's still not showing the contents from within the samli folder.

[RECOVERY] OUDHS Recovery for Nexus 7 (2013-Wifi)

How to Flash:
UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER REQUIRED
Code:
fastboot flash recovery oudhs.img
Download:
Nexus 7 (2013-Wifi) ---
OUDHS 1.0.3.4 - Mirror 1
OUDHS 1.0.3.4 - Mirror 2
Source:
My Fork Github - Forked and modified, this is what I used to make this.
OUDHS Original Source Github
Thanks to:
Shabbypenguin and the rest of OUDHS for their work on this recovery for the Galaxy S4.
Koush for CWM.
Google for AOSP.
My testers.
OUDHS Recovery is my favorite on my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 and Shabbypenguin created it. This is a port with minimal changes for the Google Nexus 7 (2013). The controls are self-explanatory, and the reason why I love this Recovery over normal CWM or TWRP. Maybe you will too. You can get to Rainbow Mode by scrolling down the list a few times.
Confirmed Bugs:
ADB Access Not Working
If using SuperSu Root for 4.3, you will always see a "Disable Recovery Flash?" popup when you choose to Reboot. Always say No, or you will lose root until you flash the SuperSu Root through a Custom Recovery again.
Video:

I loved this recov on my sgs4 very reliable and the scroll left and right to apply is very handy when you don't wanna click buttons .
I'll for sure try this once I get my unit delivered tomorrow .

SMS on Aosp ROMs not working please help

I was originally running nutta's pa beta 5 with no issues. I decided to update to beta 6. When I did this I lost text messaging. I tried a different ROM thinking maybe my phone was just picky (wtf). Doesn't matter on slimkat and both beta 5 and beta 6 of pa I can only text during the first couple seconds of a reboot and when I change from global to CDMA for a couple seconds/normally one message.. I'm at a loss at this point I have tried everything I can think of.
Text works fine on TW ROMs.
Things I've tried:
Almost every different combination of network settings I could pick in mobile networks
4 different gapp packages
Checked md5
Reflashed ml1 modem
Odin back to stock 4.1.2
Phillz touch recovery
Twrp recovery
There is more I'm sure but right now I feel like I covered it.
Any ideas??? I don't want have to only use tw.
Thank you in advance!

[Q] PA GAPPS on stock rom

Hello
I'm pretty sure it will work just fine, but i just want someone to confirm.
Is it okay to flash PA GAPPS on top of the stock nexus ROM?
Thanks
I would think it would be fine, however, your one to test on that one matey. There shouldn't be a reason why it wouldn't work though.
Why would you?

No need too.

My reason for doing so would be booting with the newest Google apps so I wouldn't have to download them from the play store
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
If you are on WiFi it really isn't a problem but whatever floats your boat. Like it'll take less than 3 minutes.
But it won't hurt anything and if it does well you can tell the rest of us not to do it.
