Hello
I'm pretty sure it will work just fine, but i just want someone to confirm.
Is it okay to flash PA GAPPS on top of the stock nexus ROM?
Thanks
I would think it would be fine, however, your one to test on that one matey. There shouldn't be a reason why it wouldn't work though.
Why would you?

No need too.

My reason for doing so would be booting with the newest Google apps so I wouldn't have to download them from the play store

If you are on WiFi it really isn't a problem but whatever floats your boat. Like it'll take less than 3 minutes.
But it won't hurt anything and if it does well you can tell the rest of us not to do it.

It works fine for me. The UI is a bit different, so it took a while to figure it out. But it works. Took two panos. It also takes a while to stich, but it does that in the background, so...

Update on this: The optimizing thing only lasted a couple of times. Now the phone boots up straight like normal! However, Google Now hasn't worked from the start. It keeps saying "location service is off" when it's not. I've used Google Now all the time before on CM10 as well as stock JB. Something is broken here...
Any chance this package will be updated to official (not leaked)? The camera app has a few new improvements today.

Has anyone tried it? I read that 4.2 keybaord is better than swype. I can't wait to try it out. If no one has flashed gapps already, I could take a nandroid backup and try flashing it.
Swype is much better and more accurate than the crappy 4.2 keyboard.

4.2 gapps are in the latest sky-jelly

Yes, camera is crappy. Very nice and pretty but has a few problems.
Best part is the pinch to zoom feature in Gmail.
Keyboard is okay I use Swype already and it is of course better then the stock keyboard. But if you never used Swype then you will love it.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to flash 4.2 then if it is not going to brick the phone.
I have been using swipe for 1year now. Its a bummer if it is not any better. But I like to have the zoom feature in gmail.

I flashed gapps 4.2. I got the zoom feature in gmail. Also I got the new keyboard - one difference so far no need to loop for repeating characters like swipe.
Am not seeing any other differences with other apps may be because all 4.2 apps were already there in 11.4.

Another reason to go away from swype is that I am not sure how trustworthy they really are. I am typing banking passwords as well with swype.

There are some FCs across the Google apps. But they went away after a reboot. Yeah, was not worth this install.

Where'd you get 4.2 gapps? Can't seem to find it.
Grab the one in the PACman Rom thread. I flashed it with the liquid smooth rom.

For some reason after i installed the ROM Paranoid Android for my Nexus S and replaced it with Cyanogenmod 10.1, all the hardware buttons stopped working! I do no however that they are not dead because i can still use them in my recovery and in other places, just not on Cyanogenmod. Here is something even more strange, sometimes when the OS starts up the buttons kind of work for a couple of seconds. However, they slow down the OS a huge amount to where i think it froze. But then after some seconds i get taken to the lock screen, and the buttons don't work again. Any help is much appreciated!

Dalvik, cache and data.. On twrp.. Everything except sd... is a full wipe/clean.. Go back to stock using Nexus root tool kit and start over, remember to flash in your recovery again as it will erase it.. Your sd should be fine.. BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST (apps/other will be lost)
I'll get back to you if it works or not. Thanks!
Well after 3/4 of a day I have had no problems yet so I guess it's fixed! :victory: If something occurs i will tell you, but until then, thanks for all your help!
I've noticed that most ROMs for our Nexus still have all the old notification sounds instead of the new ones, which feel like they are as old as ICS. Can somebody whip up a .zip to flash with the ROM to add all of these at once properly? I looked back until the last week of November and I didn't see this apologies if this has been posted. Thanks.

Just Google Nexus 5 ringtones and you'll find an XDA link with a Dropbox zip file to download. You can then extract it and be good to go. No need to flash. I used it for my N7.

Thanks but if you flash a lot of roms it would be easier to flash the zip with gapps during set up.

Save them to sdcard/notifications and sdcard/ringtones, although it would be nice to have a zip - I may make one tomorrow if I get time

I've just made a zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593703

I was originally running nutta's pa beta 5 with no issues. I decided to update to beta 6. When I did this I lost text messaging. I tried a different ROM thinking maybe my phone was just picky (wtf). Doesn't matter on slimkat and both beta 5 and beta 6 of pa I can only text during the first couple seconds of a reboot and when I change from global to CDMA for a couple seconds/normally one message.. I'm at a loss at this point I have tried everything I can think of.
Text works fine on TW ROMs.
Things I've tried:
Almost every different combination of network settings I could pick in mobile networks
4 different gapp packages
Checked md5
Reflashed ml1 modem
Odin back to stock 4.1.2
Phillz touch recovery
Twrp recovery
There is more I'm sure but right now I feel like I covered it.
Any ideas??? I don't want have to only use tw.
Thank you in advance!
